My family and I just happened to stop here and turned out to be amazing I got the dishwasher rolls and they were not overwhelming with spice just the perfect touch. We were passing through Amarillo on our vacation, and we were appropriately suspect about random strip mall sushi in a smallish Texas town... Checked the Yelp reviews, and saw that no one complained about the food, just the service, and since we were in no rush we decided to go ahead. I'm SO glad we did. The sushi was top notch! Really tasty! ...and the service was amazing! The waitress was so nice, very attentive, and super speedy, all despite being THE ONLY person working in the restaurant. The ONLY one... Waiting tables, preparing sushi, taking to go orders, etc. There were probably 10 or so tables worth of people, and she served us all like a boss. Plus, we did the all you can eat menu, so she was insisting, absolutely insisting, we order more to get our money's worth. Great experience. I have no idea what the other reviews were talking about. I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. Phenomenal authentic Chicken Spicy Miso Ramen! Not as spicy as other authentic ramen places but was still really flavorful, and the chicken was amazing, which it's rare to get great Chicken ramen since it's usually prepared with pork. The Nigiri was very fresh, and at a reasonable price! We will come back here as often as possible! I should note that this business was closed down in 2020 by the previous owners, and was bought out, and turned into this amazing place. I was confused by the bad reviews and realized they are before 2020 -- definitely don't let that turn you away from trying this place out! It's Amarillo, finding a good sushi restaurant that has fresh sushi is really difficult. Typically, I would go to United Market Street off of Georgia Street. It fresh and tastes pretty decent for the most part. My first and last visit to Sushi Express happened a few weeks ago. I ordered the Vegan Roll, no meat because of Lent. All the vegetables in the roll were fresh and crunchy. No complaints on the food. The problem that I have is what I witnessed during the making of the roll. Let's get into it... During the checking out of another customer I witnessed the (what appeared to be the owner and/or manager) walk over and place his finger in the wasabi sauce and fill a to-go container for the customer that asked for extra. This is after coughing on his hand ,behind the counter, and before he washed his hand. These are not appropriate actions in a restaurant. Monkey balls were delicious , put sauces to the side so it was not soggy when we got home, which most places we have been to do not do that for take-out. Sushi! Oh man! My first sushi in Amarillo, Texas. I never imagined how much I would have missed sushi. I was browsing for places that would provide me the memories of city life dining. I used to get sushi for lunch because it was close by to where I lived at the time and the comfort of going to a place that takes you back to fond memories was something that brought me to Sushi Express. The California roll was a legit California roll. The rainbow roll was the rainbow roll. The spicy tuna was exactly what I expected. I was not disappointed or deceived. When I encounter the experience I am looking (which almost always happens), I feel like I am the king that I was meant to be. The staff really make a difference. It's like they know exactly what I need at exactly the right time. Even the other customers are in the same mood almost like it was meant to be to be there when I was. I will be back again! First off i would like to say that this establishment is still open despite what it says. I just had lunch there this week. I've never had a bad experience here with the food. The sushi tastes great and the rolls are a decently large size compared to other places with smaller rolls. A couple gripes i do have is that sometimes it takes a little while to get your food. My mom and i ordered an appetizer today and they didn't bring it out until after we already had our sushi. Honestly how long does it take to put the soybeans on a plate with a sprinkle of salt? Another big one i'd like to point out that can be bothersome to people is that one of the waiters will come to your table every two or three minutes to see if you're ready to order and if he comes by and can see that you are trying to have a conversation with the other person or even just looking at the menu he will stand off to the side and wait. I don't know how other people feel about that, but for myself i'd rather be able to look over the menu without feeling like i'm being rushed to order. One other thing i noticed is that if you are taking food home and ask for a to go cup of eel sauce that holds about an ounce then they will just barely line the bottom of the cup with sauce. They're super stingy with it. All in all this is a good place to eat sushi, but there are also better places that you could go. read more

My friend and I came at 12:30 and there weren't many people in the restaurant, and it did have a cleaner type smell. Although the price was all you can eat (the entire menu) at $14.25! The staff were very attentive to our needs, although they typically would stare at us for sharing (because it was all you could eat). Sushi express has potential. There are not many sushi places in this area of town, so they have a great location. Ordered a spicy tuna roll and it was very clean and fresh tasting. Also, ordered salmon sashimi, ceviche salad, dumplings and a monkey ball these items were all ok. The reason for three stars is because I had two fried items and heard a microwave twice. There are other places in town that offer dumplings and monkey ball rolls and make them to order. I get the name has express in it but the order was about a 40 minute wait. My husband and I wanted sushi on a Sunday and this was the only place open. The restaurant didn't look very clean when we walked inside, and when I got home my sushi was a little soggy. It hadn't been sitting there because when we got there, it was still being made! We almost left without part of our order because they didn't put it in the bag.
