This place has one of the best wagyu in the area, but the portion is way too small. The waygu set i got was $100, supposed to be for 2 person but that barely filled me up. Nevertheless, the meat melts in your mouth like butter and it was super fast to cook. I got their vegetables assortment as a side, which is average. Came here because Tsuruhashi was closed for a week, menu is pretty similar to Tsuruhashi but with more nicer cuts of beef. We ordered the Tsuruhashi set which comes with Skirt steak, rib eye, short rib & miso chicken. We also got an order of beef tongue, pork cheek, kimchi fried rice, combination kimchi set and sanchu. The skirt steak was rly good & I enjoyed the beef tongue a lot. Rib eye was kinda tough but the short rib was fire! Pork cheek is always super good especially cooked crispy and wrapped up in lettuce. The miso chicken was good too, really big chunks of chicken! The combination kimchi is always a hit; but the kimchi fried rice was a huge let down for us. Usually it comes out super red & with lots of kimchi but this time around it was super light in color and had NO kimchi flavor so that was pretty disappointing Service was good, our server was attentive and very sweet. Celebrated Father's Day here and it was a fantastic experience. It's reservations only too. The marbling on the waygu is perfection. Looks like diamonds glistening in the meat. I always make sure to eat the A5 last because the fattiness and savoriness may kill your appetite. It's like eating a stick of butter and you might get sick of it. I would say there's about maybe 10-14 booths. It's small but so well thought out you feel like you're in your own little room if you make a reservation. I would suggest making a reservation because it is a popular spot and not many booths. I've never had a better Filet Mignon its the best I've ever had it's so tender and the flavor is out of this world. The Prime Ribeye is also a great option flavor is amazing and very tender. This sure is a nicer interior compared to the other turuhashi, and with the ability to make reservation was definitely a plus. When we walked in there was only one other table inside, we were there at 5pm but when we left closer to 7pm the place was still not half full. I wasn't sure what exactly was the difference between the two places, when we asked the server she replied the meat are the same for both restaurants, but this one has maybe more Wagyu choices and only one seafood plate option. This place also has the beef liver appetizer and the other doesn't. But generally speaking they are very similar. We ordered quite a variety, wagyu set platter, beef tartar, beef side skirt, garlic fried rice, tsuruhashi salad and finally to finish of with the macha dessert and a bottle of sake. So beef tartar obviously was the same as the other tsuruhashi, side skirt was decent. But for some reason we didn't really enjoy the Wagyu platter, I wish we had just gone with the regular tsuruhashi platter set, I would probably have enjoyed it more and even better with less cost. Macha dessert was abit disappointing, other than the Macha sauce they made in front of you and pour on top of the ice cream, there was nothing special about it, for me, abit of waste on ordering. All in all we felt like it was about 3.5 star experience, since half star wasn't allowed, and we didn't think it would be a 4 star experience. My best friend also went just a night before to check it out, she felt the same with her entire family there, and she said when she left around 7 there was only one other table there. For my birthday, I thought it would be nice to try their fancier sister restaurant, which strangely, is in the same plaza. I made reservations by phone. The seating is nice- slightly blocked off to create some privacy. Unfortunately, the meat was not particularly good. We got a lot of cuts that were gamey, which never happened before at Tsuruhashi. Our favorite was the short rib and zabuton. My personal favorite is beef tongue. The yukke was tender. I have been a big fan of Tsuruhashi for over 10 years. It's my favorite yakiniku location given the consistent quality and service, and that says a lot especially in an extremely competitive OC and South Bay market. So when I heard of their new location Tsuruichi it wasn't difficult decision to visit! The quality and familiar items on the menu are still there. But here the ambience, decor, and service have been uplifted so you get less buzzy yakiniku experience, which is fun and memorable too, but now a more private and refined experience with individual booths separated with full and partial partitions. I love both types, but I'm getting older and more and more enjoying the private personal experience and decor vibes these days without all the energy and noise. Shoutout to Yui-san for being our server last night when we visited the first time. She was really friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure we had a good experience. I'm a loyal fan of Tsuruhashi kobe gold and premium tongue. So when I heard Tsuruichi opened, I had to try it! It's a small Japanese bbq spot that only serves premium wagyu meats. There are maybe 8 tables but they do take reservations. We got the wagyu omakase platter, which had a combination of lean and marbled meats. Then we ordered thick cut premium tongue and misuji to try. From the omakase, we realized that we really like fatty marbled meat! If you are like me, the sankaku, sirloin and misuji were all delicious! Even the lean meats were super tender for how lean it is. The battle continues as my favorite Japanese BBQ place Anjin goes head to head against a new Japanese BBQ place that just opened in Fountain Valley; Tsuruichi Wagyu! Does the newcomer finally conquer my number one go to JBBQ spot?! In all seriousness haha it's my monthly outing to a Japanese BBQ place with my cousin and I've been looking at this place since they opened and we reserved for 2 on a Friday night at 6:30pm. They happily accepted and when we arrived around 6:10pm, we were sat immediately! The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty small but elegant as well. We had our own booth to ourselves with other parties around but not as cramped as Anjin. Located in a pretty big lot, parking was easy so you wouldn't need to worry about that. We sat down already deciding to get the omakase platter but our waitress was kind enough to explain the entire menu to us. With her explanation we decided to order everything a la carte instead which is what I recommend. Our starting appetizer consisted of the wagyu bean sprouts and the wagyu yukke. Our main dishes consisted of the beef tongue, marinated us kobe, chuck roll, sirloin butt along with the wagyu fried rice. We also asked for a recommendation of sake which our waitress provided! The first dish to come out was the wagyu yukke and wow. Raw meat with a egg and marinade... if you haven't had raw beef yet this should be your first try because this was an awesome appetizer to order! Delicious each piece that was offered! The wagyu bean sprouts had some marinade as well as fatty chunks of beef which was really good! The next dish to come out was the beef tongue. It came out with a small side of tallow (beef fat) which was used as oil for the beef tongue! Never seen that before and dare I say it... arguably the best beef tongue I've ever had. It was like butter to me and tasted phenomenal. Mind you the sake probably enhances the taste of everything here haha. The sirloin butt was the weakest tasting because it was a lean meat but still pretty good! The next was the us marinated kobe beef and wow! The marinade provided was excellent and this meat tasted awesome! The last but not least was the chuck roll. This had about 9 pieces for us 2 and oh my god... This is a definite must get here. The marbling was exquisite and the sauces provided to use for the all the meats paired perfectly with it. You need to get this if you come here! The wagyu fried rice was delicious as well! Not to salty and enough beef in the rice where you weren't overwhelmed from it. A solid fried rice dish! I told myself I needed one more order of beef tongue to truly think this beef tongue is better than Anjin.... Mind you the price of beef tongue is around $25 per dish and I believe it's cheaper and offer more pieces at Anjin but dare I say it... this place is hands down has better tasting beef tongue. I was happy and stomach full all around. Luckily we saved room for desert and I decided to get the Hot matcha fudge... and our waitress made the fudge right infront of us which was a surprise! That was just the cherry on top and if you love matcha you will love this desert! Overall our meal totaled to $330 plus tip. Yes I would argue that the prices you pay here are the most expensive out of any JBBQ in Orange County but there is no argument hands down that this is now my favorite Japanese BBQ place to go to if you're willing to spend! Our waitresses were really sweet and accommodating and one advantage of this place is they do take reservations. I would highly recommend going that route if you do decide to come here cause I believe reservations are limited per day. But... what else is there to say? We ordered the $175 (Whole cow) which comes with appetizers and desert along with the almost all the meats! Great way to taste everything! For the whole cow order you must get a minimum of two orders ($350) it's a ton of food so I recommend going with a total 4 people and get two orders of these. - They start you off with an appetizer of some pickled veggies, braised beef tongue, and glazed salmon (Salmon was bomb) - then they bring out two trays of meat! If you are planning to just order individual meats and not the whole cow, I high recommend the sirloin and the brisket, it was so fatty and soft! - the also bring out some wagyu fried rice, then end the meal with some crème brulee desert. It's is a small restaurant with about 8 tables and each table is in its own booth, creating a semi private dining environment.
