I met a friend at Kenwood for lunch and decided to try something beyond the basic burgers I had ordered on previous visits. I am glad I did. The lunch menu offers a great variety and is an excellent value. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad instead of fries, and both were delicious. The sandwich had incredible flavor, and the salad was the perfect fresh side. My meal was a little over $13 before tax, tip, and iced tea, which is honestly less than many fast food lunches but tastes much fresher and better quality. The wings are some of the best I've ever had. Somehow they sear all of the juiciness inside and they are so tender. The mango habanero sauce is homemade and seems honey based. It is excellent. The Chipotle store is actually an Aioli and it's good. The ranch and blue cheese dips are homemade and perfect. I prefer the blue cheese and it has no chunks in it which I appreciate. The Jalapeno Boats (aka stuffed jalapeno poppers) are awesome and made from scratch. Not too spicy and not too bold of filling. Subtle gourmet. Unfortunately the onion rings were too greasy. I would prefer larger pieces of onion with less coating. They have a variety of beers on tap. I enjoyed the Cali Squeeze Blood Orange beer. The St Bernardus beer was alright. I had seen this place multiple times on my way and around Southern California. Specifically the Costa Mesa Newport Beach area but never stopped by. Today. My friend had to go shopping and so we decided to grab a bite to eat at kenwoods. From the outside, the windows are so darkly tinted. I couldn't tell if they were open or not. But upon opening the door there were people scattered throughout the place. So we just walked into the bar area and got a high top table. Server came up to us, asked us for drinks and handed us menus. He came back shortly after we gave him the order. I had a chicken Caesar salad and a space dust double IPA, my friend just had a cup of coffee. The chicken Caesar was really good, and the beer was as expected. The first cup of coffee that he brought to the table was cold so we had to send that back to get a fresh cup. Now it wasn't that busy so I would think that the server would take a moment to check to see that the coffee was warm, but apparently that didn't happen. I got my food and started digging in and the coffee came out a few minutes later. The salad was good, had a nice size chicken breast on top and the dressing was really tasty, not overpowering. I was a little bit stunned at the bill when it came to the table and it was $35 plus dollars, I guess the food and grocery hikes still surprise me, although they shouldn't. The dining experience was okay, it wasn't stellar by any means, but it was adequate, I didn't felt neglected or rushed in any way. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the coffee incident. Having been a server in the food industry. That's definitely one of the things you look for. We have been coming to Kenwoods for quite a while now and I had never gotten around writing a review. We discovered this place a couple years back and I was hooked after our initial visit. Let me start by saying that the service has always been really good and they really seem to care about their guests which is appreciated. The food is also very good (albeit a bit hit or miss on somedays) and I have never left dissatisfied. I have had the chopped wedge salad , the chicken wings, the morning glory burger, bbq chicken flatbread amongst other offerings and each was great in their own way. My wife and mom have also enjoyed their dishes here as well from the burgers to the garlic herb chicken, to the salmon and more. The place can get busy at times but we have always been lucky with our timing. They have a fairly large indoor seating area as well as a large outdoor patio. Parking is usually fairly easy to find but is shared with many other businesses and restaurants in the shopping center. They also have great happy hour specials on appetizers and drinks as well that will save you a few bucks, so be sure to take advantage. It had been a little while since we last visited Kenwood's but we were in the area and we knew that they would be open a little later. The restaurant was pretty packed but we were able to get seated pretty quickly. The hostess who sat us was very warm and friendly. She definitely makes a great first impression for Kenwood's as the first interaction customers get to have. We ordered some french fries as our appetizer - perfectly cooked! Our entrees included: the Baja Chicken salad, Cobb salad and Grilled chicken plate. We all enjoyed our food and commented on how delicious our food was. Although prices have gone up everywhere to eat out, we felt that the quality of the food at Kenwood's is definitely worth the price. I was skeptical at first and went the conservative route of BBQ brisket. Glad I did.
