This is not a fancy shop. When you pull in you might be put off by the chickens clucking on the other side of the fence. Tuan'w would be in business this long if he wasn't efficient, honest, fair, a great technician. He had a shop for 7 years at San Carlos and Leigh and has been at this location for 20 years. When ever we take our cars in, he he'll diagnose the problem and call with an estimate. His estimate is always on the mark or within a few dollars. Work is done when he says it will be done. I called Tuan and told him I needed a new clutch. He asked me a few questions. And determined I didn't need a clutch, but a clutch slave cylinder. About a 5th of the price of a clutch. That's why I've been going to Tuan for 6 years, originally based upon a friend's recommendation. I'm happy to recommend him and have done so in the past. Tuan can diagnose a problem and fix it. Tuan, I love this man, i had been going to him for 10 years!!!! What people need to understand about him, is that he love OEM parts. Those who like aftermarket parts, might not be a fan of his shop. Tuan believe in fixing a car and making it last. As we all know it, most aftermarket parts are good but they don't last especially the EBAY knock off parts that people like to buy. You could bring your aftermarket parts for him to install, he'll install it but he'll tell you why he prefer OEM. He could smog, fix your auto, change your tires, and anything that you want him to do. He doesn't weld, but if you need to weld something, he'll refer it to a shop near by. Overall, he's fair and honest and it's hard to find that in a SPEEDE, MIDAS, or those quick in and out repair shops! I have been going to Tuan for more than 15 years now because he is just the best mechanic in San Jose, hands down. Monday, I called Tuan and got an appointment to get my vehicle checked and repaired if needed. Yesterday, Wednesday around 9 am, I brought my 2009 Toyota Highlander with more than 260,000 miles on it to Tuan's shop. I was hearing some noises from the front of the car and it wobbles when I brake. Tuan diagnosed the problem, replaced the front brakes, ball joints and shocks/struts, and aligned the front wheels. I picked up my car around 3 pm. Now it drives like its brand new although it already has more than 260,000 miles on it. read more

No charge to evaluate my problem and give me advise, including what he refers out to others. Tuan has been repairing our cars for more than a decade. He is a honer mechanic, and price are reasonable. First heard about him from a customer in a Volvo Custom Repair shop raving about how he waited for her on a Friday night while her car was towed from a Freeway breakdown situation. I had a problem with an O2 sensor in a 95 Camry, which despite several visits and $200+ to my former mechanic, the problem continued to recur. Tuan fixed it in 1 visit and I've going there ever since. He will not recommend work you do not need, and will tell you to wait or it's unnecessary. He kept that Camry going for 18 years until it was in an accident. Was still running great at the time. Some aspects to consider are the shop is not in a convenient location, and he does not provide pick-up or drop-offs. I've had to use the local VW dealer (2 stars) for repairs sometimes mainly for their shuttle service and proximity to work, but always to my regret and wallet pains afterwards. Tuan can be busy, and you may not be able to get immediate "drive in now and repair it now" service. read more

I was one of the bmw owners and skeptical about having my 3-series being serviced/repaired any places other than dealership. I came across Tuans Auto from Yelp and the reviews gave me some comfort level. Today I visited Tauns auto shop for my "service engine soon" light. He promptly assisted me and gave me a resolution with estimated cost. His estimate was reasonable, but the impressive part was him advising me on waiting on some repairs since it was not needed immediately. I had a small noise coming from the engine and he gave me good explanation on it, not being harmful in anyways. Tuan came across as an honest, reliable and reasonable mechanic. We took our 94 Lexus LS 400 after the car would intermittently start. We had previously taken the car to a battery manufacture which tested the alt and battery explaining they were fine. Tuan kept the vehicle overnight to test the battery when cold and discovered the brand new/refurbished battery was defective when cold. Finding a mechanic can always be very stressful, especially when you know nothing of cars. I called him and told him the symptoms of my pt cruiser and instead of having me tow it in, he suggested a couple things it could be and, if possible, to check it myself, so I didn't waste my time or money. He was very patient and upfront with me over the phone and reassured me he wouldn't charge me to diagnose it. I had it towed there and no more than 30 mins he called and told me what the issue was. Turned out I needed a new engine, which costs $1000s. He said he would look around the next day for used engines. No more than an hour went by until he called back and gave me a couple different options and said he could work on it right away. Although the damages cost way more than what the car was worth, I had to pass. But he was more concerned with the car than making money. He even said after checking it I could take it somewhere else or if I wanted to, I could have my boyfriend work on it. I HIGHLY recommend Tuan to anyone with vehicle problems. read more

It was all the very positive reviews that lead me to try Tuans. I had always taken my car to the dealership for repairs, because I just didn't think I could find a mechanic I could trust. After being so sick & tired of being ripped off, My husband did a YELP search for me. After going over many mechanic reviews I decided to try Tuans for two reasons. One, He got the most comments on being "honest" and two, he uses OEM (original equipment manufacturer)parts. My only hesitation was was concern that he may only be familiar with fixing imports. BMW, Toyota, Honda, etc. None the less, I still wanted to try him, based on the Yelp reviews. I'm SO GLAD I DID. I have a Pontiac and Tuan was able to service it beautifully. First job Brakes. Great job, and much less expensive than competitors. (I called 3 other places) Another, my car needed new fuel pump assembly. Again, I called around to get quotes and by far Tuan's was best. Tuan truly does tell you ONLY the service your car needs NOW, what CAN wait. How much it will cost, and uses OEM parts whenever he can. Also, Tuan had my car ready the same day!
