If I can give a place negative stars I would. (Starts to play Fresh Prince of Bel Air Song) Now, this is a story all about how My wallet almost got flipped-turned upside down And I liked to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I became wise and took my car somewhere else. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay my route to work is mainly on Montague expressway heading towards Milpitas from Santa Clara. So one morning I noticed that my temperature gauge was extremely high and not athe middle where it normally stays. I then pulled over check my car for any leaks or busted hoses. Check the ground to see if there were any puddles or if i am out of coolant. Turns out that I was fine and that it may just be a valve or a thermostat not allowing for the coolant to circulate. So after checking out my options I recall an auto shop just off the road a couple lights up. As I cautiously speeded through the streets trying to get to the auto shop before my car dying from over heating and making my way to Courtesy Auto. There I was greeted by a mechanic and then by the owner, I believe his name was Kwang. I told them my car was overheating but there does not seem to be a leak. So I left my car there for inspection and also to be fixed. They were nice to give me a lift to work from their shop which was about 1 mile away. He said he would call me once he found out what was wrong with it. After about an hour I received a phone call from Kwang stating that the radiator and the thermostat needed to be replaced as well as a hose which would run me about $600.00 +. I told him to hold on and that I would think about it and do some research. After speaking with my Dad and talking to our usual mechanic, he said he is about 90% sure that its just a thermostat. So I call courtesy Auto to let them know that I will be taking my car else where and that a tow truck would be there to pick it up. After paying $60 for the diagnostic fee I was greeted by the tow truck driver who stated that the man was rude and when he asked about the car he was towing, the owner acted like he knew nothing of it. So after the whole ordeal my car was taken to the usual shop we go to and only tallied $106.00 for a thermostat a couple new hoses and topping off on liquids. I was also told that I was given a misdiagnosis from Courtesy and that they should have never charged me for the diagnostic. So overall I am extremely disappointed and will report this shop to the BBB and also to the mechanics union. SO please be forewarned about their shadiness. read more

This review is long overdue! I LOVE LOVE this place! I had air leakage from my passenger side window that got pretty bad when I drove on the freeway. I called on Monday and I was in by Wednesday... the SAME week! Can you believe that?!? David Tien, the owner himself, was calling me during the day to give me exact updates as to what was going on with my car. He fixed it and I had my car back by the end the day! The best part... It was totally affordable and my car was given a courtesy external wash. (I was pretty embarrassed because my car was filthy!) But it was a wonderful surprise and a nice touch! She spent $85 with Firestone for diagnose and they told us we need to go back to dealer to replace the burned computer module (more than $1000) Curtesy auto found the problem was the starter in a hour and replaced a new one for me less than $100. went here to get my timing belt and water pump done on my 98 honda accord. i first went to this other place behind the milpitas police station and was quoted ~600+. i was like, maybe i should just drive this thing til it dies. well, this place quote 450. i was a bit surprised since my friend that used to own a shop told me that he charges 500-550 i decided to get it done and add a oil change on top of it. the total was 485. i talk to the dude in chinese for discount on cash payment. he lowered it to 460 cash. drop off the car the next morning and came back at night to pick it up. he also washed my car as well. that was a nice touch. read more

The cost and time estimate on some minor body work was much lower than other body shops I visited for quotes. For 25 years I have brought my cars to Courtesy Automotive with never a regret. Toyotas, Fords, Volvo, Mazda and Dodge all repaired with great service at a fair price. In the beginning I was looking for an honest shop as an alternative to the dealer. I traveled out of the country 40% and needed some place for my wife and daughter to bring our cars. EVERY TIME Kwan gave straight answers and advise. Sometimes that meant sending me back to the dealer or to a front end alignment shop. I would bring in the car for a squeak and he would say "it's not a danger only a bother, wait till you need a new belt or other repair. We can do it all at the same time. Watch for a leak on the driveway or a drop in coolant." Other times he would tell me to have someone pick me up because it was not safe to drive. We had an older Acura that we brought in to have its brakes done. The owner, Mr. Wang, was referred to us by a family member, so we thought he was on the "up and up". We were wrong. He charged us $400 for a brake job using bogus after market parts. Immediately upon returning home, the brakes started sounding weird. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough that new brakes weren't supposed to sound like that. We ended up bringing back the car, but Mr. Wang insisted that there was nothing wrong with them and that new brakes needed time to "break in". 6 months later, after bringing the car to a more reputable shop, did they notify us that the brake job we got was bogus and it cost us another $400 to fix. Patronize at your own risk. I will not be returning and will warn others to stay away. read more

It's good for the first time coming with my colleague's recommendation. But in the third time, when my used car (Ford) couldn't be started. They did the diagnostics jobs and said I need to replace my alternator and battery. I did it as they requested. but when I drove my car back, the same issue pops up again. And I even call my the first owner of the car, he said he just change it within 6 months. So I decided to change back my battery and asked them to fix the issue indeed. They said my starter need to be change and I just pay for parts fee (new starter) that time. I wanna to stay there for the checking point. As I noticed, the cost of parts is only 89$, but they charged me 189$ in the second time. What's a shit! And even the first time, I guess they didn't do the full trouble-shooting in my car and still charged my 3 hours labor. I think they're cheating and do a bad job on diagnostics. They're good communicators: they call with status updates, show me what's been fixed under the hood, etc. They also offer advice on what's worth fixing and what's not worth it. They operate both mechanic and body shops. I'm only familiar with the latter. They service all makes of cars. I see mainly Japanese and German cars there. I bring my American cars there. read more

He always explains to me what was wrong and if he can fix it or if I can see if the dealership will cover it. He's saved me a lot of money by explaining what the issue was and how to avoid it again! But the work is so bad, you have to take your car to other auto shop to re-fix the problem!!! End up, you have to pay much more!!! I really do not recommend this shop to anyone. bad experience. they didn't do thorough analysis but chraged over $150 for filling Freon only. After a month, I went back after losing AC again, they told me that I have to change compressor for over $800. I want him to ensure this is the real problem he won't. Then he blamed Honda Civic for wrong AC design. What a waste!!! read more

Kwang is very honest, he never charge more than what he has to or do any unnecessary work on any of our cars. He even show us what he has done with the car and show us the parts that he has taken out to replace and explain the reason why we had the problem.
