My mom passed in March, and my brother reached out to Tulip Cremations to take care of my mom's remains. From everybody we spoke to, Tulip was the most responsive, not to mention the least expensive. We did not choose them because of pricing alone, but rather, their customer service! Up front, they let you know the remains take anywhere between 4 to 12 weeks to be delivered. There are many options to choose from. My brother and I chose the basic cremation, a box, no coffin, no funeral arrangements, nothing. We chose a pine box to have her ashes stored and delivered to us. But note, even with this very basic cremation package, they still give you five copies of the death certificate as well as a certificate of human remains if you will be traveling with the human remains. You need that certificate in order to transport human remains between states and countries. After you call them and they arrange for pickup, everything else you fill out online on their website. It was very easy. I had a couple of questions, so I had to call them over the weekend, and I worked with Sherry, and I believe it was someone like Deb? Either way, both ladies whom I worked with were wonderful! They were nice, professional, and knowledgeable, and when I asked them for information, they said they would get back to me, and they did! I really appreciated working with them on the phone. They called me back, and they worked with me. I know some people have not had good customer service, but I had the best customer service! When they came to pick up my mom, the two young adults were so gentle and careful and explained every step of the way what they were doing. Very professional! I can not say enough positive things about Tulip. I also forwarded their information to my kids so that if they are still in business 40 years from now, I told my kids to research them and call them for my cremation! For my brother and I, it was the easiest, simplest, fastest process than we could even imagine! After I spoke to customer service a couple of times and they answered my questions, I played the waiting game. My mom passed on March 9th, and her remains were delivered on March 24th! Here, I was expecting them to not show up until mid-summer, and they came within 2 weeks! I'm sure that's not the norm depending on how busy they've been, but I was pleasantly surprised. My mom's remains came in a very nicely finished pine box inside a blue velvet bag. The whole thing was wrapped in yellow white and green tissue paper with tulips imprinted on the tissue paper, and the death certificates and human remains certificate were placed in envelopes on top of the box. It was delivered USPS, and I had to sign for it as they could not leave the remains unattended at the door. It worked out great. My mom's remains were taken good care of and delivered with care, and I was so pleased when I opened up the box to see how carefully and wonderfully they packaged her. Again, I highly recommend Tulip Cremations! I'm sure they subcontract out the actual cremation to various crematoriums around and those that have time to come pick up the person. Either way, I believe they are the middleman, and I was quite pleased with that! Many other Cremation Services we contacted were rude or clueless! And very expensive for a basic package. Very poor customer service and communication. When I set up my pre-need plan my application was forwarded to Homesteaders Life Insurance Company for insurance coverage. They are also impossible to contact either by phone or email. I have cancelled both my pre-need plan and insurance. I will make arrangements with a more reliable and reputable provider. read more

My husband and I purchased Tulp Cremation in 2018. HE PASSED in 2019. They came after him in about 2 hours, wrapped him up and took him away. They were pleasant when we purchased as well as when picking him up. His ashes arrived a few weeks later. read more

Not a nice experience! It IS possible to call BEFORE paying and ask questions. I did so. There was no way to know "what was yet to come." Losing a family member you love and having to go through what we went through should never happen. After deciding to use Tulip and paying for their services, we found out what we had gotten ourselves into. Not well organized. We were told we would have a dedicated staff to guide us, help us through the process. That did not end up being the case. The only mode of contact is by phone, no email. Many times we would get people who knew nothing about us. It did not appear that there were computer files available to provide our case info. We had to repeat it all over and over. Our situation was a bit messy but for sure we were not the first people who had lost a single/never married adult. I was the step-mother. Over and over my husband had to give Tulip staff permission to speak with me (as I was not the birth mother). At one point, when Tulip sent a vehicle to pick our son's body at the Medical Examiner's office, we were called and told his body was not there. He was at the hospital where he died on a medical examiner's hold. One might think the cremation service would find the body before sending a vehicle. We were in the process of moving to another state and took some of their calls while on the road. We had to call Tulip constantly to find out where our son's body was, when cremations would take place. When he was finally cremated, Tulip made several omissions/errors on his death certificate. If is not every easy to lose someone you love. One sort of counts on the processional "in the business" to know what to do, how to communicate. That was not the case with Tulip Cremations. Horrible communication!! They dropped the ball at the beginning of the process which caused my mom's remains to be held at the morgue for more than 2 weeks!! Their website is not updated, so you cannot know what stage the cremation is at. I just received the ashes on 12/16/2024, my mom passed on 11/19/2024! My account page on the website says the cremation is still in progress!! Also, don't buy the Aquatic Ashes container for $125!! It is just heavy paper!! My husband passed away on June 28th at 0228 In the morning. I had planned to use someone local. My nephew called me and told me to call tulip. I did. I borrowed the money to have tulip come and get him. They had asked before they got here that they did not have enough people to handle him and asked if family members could help. We agreed to do that. It took awhile to get him cremated. It seemed like i never knew what was going on. I sent emails to find out what was actually going on. Never did the tell me. I had not left my home for months due to my husbands condition. They had promised me i would get notification Before my husbands ashes were on their way. Never got a thing. I sent a email asking what was going on. They sent me a what to do after someone dies. Believe me we were way past that. I was married to the most amazing man for 36 years. As soon. As they got my money they treated me and my husband as a number at best. The stress they left me with was seriously outrageous. They do not care about me, they don't care about him. All they care about is the almighty dollar. I have cried so much over not knowing where my husband is. This is my life! The father of my children. Grandfather to my grandkids. Great grandfather to great grandkids. He was our everything. They treated him like roadkill. If I could stop one person from having to go through the pure hell I am still going through from Tulip cremation I want to do it. Wish I would have used someone else. My recent experience with Tulip Cremation was in no way satisfactory. They have terrible customer service and don't answer the phone or call you back even when the automated system says there are zero calls ahead of you in the queue and you want to talk to the next available team member. They did not seem to know what they were doing and when I contacted them for questions or clarification, they were rude and condescending. I used Tulip Cremation 2 years ago (2023) when another sibling passed and was very pleased with the service and the promptness and personal contact was great and everything was smooth. This time it's a completely different story. Unfortunately, I cannot say I am a satisfied customer. This is still ongoing 10 weeks later and since this is a public review, I will not go into details, but my review isn't going to change no matter what they do. Their customer service has gone from 5 stars to 1 in the past couple years in my opinion. I at least eventually received the ashes. My stepmother passed away after a long and very stressful time that left my 80 year old father devastated. He found his way to Tulip Cremation thinking he was interacting with a local company, which they are not. They are a network that contracts out work and have the worst customer service, which is especially bad given that they are interacting with people at one of the worst times in their lives. At one point they seemed to have lost track of the chain of custody of my stepmother's remains and couldn't tell him where her remains were or where they were in the process. Through some sleuthing on our side by looking through the early communications the address (but no business name) where the remains were to be picked up was located. Thanks to street view we were able to see the name of the cremation service they had contracted out to. They were wonderful once we were able to find their phone number and deal with them directly. Tulip did not call my father back, provide any update to the chain of custody, did not connect him with the person supposedly managing things like he was told, and have not apologized for causing my father significant emotional distress thinking that the remains of his love were lost. I wouldn't recommend them at all. Go directly to the local services. This operation doesn't care and it shows. read more

Tulip was everything we needed when my mom passed away just a few weeks ago now. When it comes to things like this, I really had no idea what to expect but they were very helpful and reassuring. We had a little miscommunication the night mom passed but that was ATT's issue and not Tulip's fault. Once we had things right, they were right there and were very respectful. It's hard not to get anxious about the process and timeline but overall, the whole process was much quicker than the given timelines. Mom's wish to float off into the waters of Hawaii will be realized thanks to the seaside urn option which I did not see offered by any other services at this price level. When it rains, it pours. Amid the sadness, fear, and anger that has overtaken everyday life, my Mom's tenure on this planet recently ended. It was not unexpected and at 92, not a tragedy, but given the state of things I appreciated that Tulip Cremation handled everything without me having to handle anything. When my Mom entered into hospice care I was asked how my family wished to handle the inevitable. I had used Neptune Society when my Dad passed, years earlier, but this time there was more competition in the marketplace. Neptune Society was now neither the least expensive nor the facility with the best ratings. Tulip Cremation held that honor. Tulip Cremation's web site is clear on price and services making it simple to determine exactly what you will get and at what cost. I was able to complete all of the required forms in advance, online, then notify hospice that Tulip would be handling everything. And just like that, they did. Tulip Cremation charged a flat $700 for a variety of cremation services plus a $100 additional fee for transport from a private residence into their care. Death Certificates can be requested in multiple through Tulip, at $21 apiece. USPS is used to deliver cremains to the address specified, at a cost of $50. Tulip Cremation offers a variety of choices in which ashes can be delivered and if you select the most basic (boxed and enclosed in a velvet sack) there is no additional charge imposed. They will, however, send you multiple follow-up emails aimed at encouraging you to reassess your decision to opt for the most basic container. A couple of additional things to know: * You won't be charged until you actually use Tulip's services; * You can start filling out forms online and your data will be saved but if you don't return to complete the forms soon, you may have to call them to request access. They are quick to respond. So there you have it: a 5-star review for a place I sincerely hope you never have a need to use. But if you do, it's good to know that they exist, are excellent at what they do, and will make things a bit easier for you at an already difficult time. RIP Mom. read more

Disappointed! Really wish I could have used their services but they are not organized nor flexible. Customer Service management had no regard for good will. This review would have been lower except for the kind and courteous efforts of the care advisor, Sheri, who tried to help but was handcuffed by her supervisor. After looking at different services online, I got a quote from Tulip. They were initially tenacious in calling and emailing to close the deal for a future planning contract. But the holidays were upon us and it took a couple of weeks to get back to completing the paperwork. I used the link they sent and filled out all the required information (detailed including PII such as SS#) and submitted my credit card information for the payment. I never received a confirmation but the charge hit my card statement. So I called and was finally given to Sheri. She confirmed that they had my information but that they had a price increase and that the online processing should not have allowed me to do all the work to sign up and pay. She said she would have to talk to her supervisor. I suggested that since this was their error, they should wave the fee difference (a measly 5% BTW). She pursued it but they were inflexible. She was able to get the charge to my card reversed but said they would not waive the fee differential. I sent her a note thanking her for her efforts but voicing how disappointing it was to get this feedback. Having run numerous call centers and customer service efforts myself, I found this insulting and on the matter of principle and Tulip owning the error decided not to go forward. Sheri was a winner but their uncooperative leadership was a bad reflection. I didn't want to encounter this when the time to actually NEED the services came to pass. read more

I was driving while on the phone our connection was poor so I informed the representative that I would reach out when I got both home and out the car. I'm human, I forget, ended up not returning their call. Next day I get FOUR BACK TO BACK PHONE CALLS. A wanted to pre-arrange my own cremation in order to spare my survivors the task. Tulip was cheaper than Neptune, so I decided to go through them. It was an onerous and very frustrating process. They say they are available 24/7 but it's almost the opposite. I first got their answering service after a long wait. They took the message but I never got a response from Tulip. I finally got through to someone at Tulip who couldn't answer my question, and said she'd have someone call me back. No callback. Kept calling and calling, and finally got through to a more knowledgeable person. My problem in filling out the online form was apparently a glitch in their system. They didn't know how long it would take to fix it, and didn't give me any confidence that it would happen anytime soon. Instead of being able to sign the authorization myself, I had to involve a sibling - which I didn't want to do, but I had to because of this glitch. I finally got through filling out all the online system and my pre-arranged cremation plan was approved and my credit card was charged. They sent me an email stating everything was approved with a link to the contract. The link didn't work. Another glitch in the system. Since their link to my contract didn't work, I asked them to send me a copy by mail. They said they couldn't do that because the contract was with a Homestead Insurance company. They told me I'd eventually get a mailed copy with a card for my wallet saying that my cremation at Tulip was pre-arranged and pre-paid. But they were "backed up," and it would probably take about two months. If I die before two months, who knows what will happen? And if live a lot longer, will Tulip still be in business? With such sketchy availability and customer service added to very shoddy computer systems, it makes me wonder how long they can stay in business. Maybe going with the cheaper plan wasn't such a good idea. read more

This is the second time that I have used Tulip Cremation. First it was for my mom-in-law. I had started this review after my mom died in 2020, but forgot to finish it. So here it is. Mom died unexpectedly right at the beginning of the lockdown for Covid. I live in San Francisco, but my mom lived in San Diego. My aunt who lives in the same block as Mom was taking care of the arrangements. She of course was overwhelmed by all of this, so I offered to take care of the cremation and all the it entails. Since Tulip also had an office in San Diego I called them and I received the same wonderful care as I had received when I used them for my mom-in-law. It was a relief that I was able to do everything over the phone/online since everything was in lock down. I highly recomment Tulip Cremation. The staff there are wonderful. read more

I committed before my father passed (which seemed strange - but a requirement of hospice), but so thankful I did so that when he did pass, I did not have to think about it. I have hired tulip for my dad's cremation back in 2021. I was satisfied with the services. The reps were very helpful and made the process easy for me. They also assisted me with travel documents when I needed to fly with my dad's ashes. When my mom passed away in January 2023, I contacted Tulip right away. It turned out to be a great disappointment this time, like I was dealing with a different company. The communication with the team became almost non-existent. When I called with inquiries and questions, I could only leave a message with the answering service. More than half of my emails went unanswered. I wanted to know if we could choose a auspicious day for cremation, came to observe the cremation, and bring our own urn for the ashes. It took a very long time to get responses and they could not accommodate any of my requests. I was especially shocked to know I had to use the urn sold on their website, which is only a small collection of pricey choices. What the experience bothered me most was the lack of prompt communication during this difficult time. They called me or emailed me based on the case schedule, but not on my needs when I attempted to reach out for help. I only got to talk with the case manager in the beginning and at the end, and the communication during the process was non-existent. Losing a loved one is emotionally difficult and dealing with a company like Tulip at the same time has made it even harder. read more

Be sure to have your loved one die inside their service area, because my father is just waiting here in Thousand Oaks. Thanks for refusing to pick him up because the ambulance went north from their house, instead of south to remain in Los Angeles county. Try not to die just outside of their service area on a prepaid service. As an update, after a couple hours they did make an exception and got transport arranged. Our experience with Tulip was horrible. I cried many tears after we started the process of cremation for our son. Our Son passed in June 30th. 2024 in San Marcos Ca. My husband called and reached out to someone over the phone. He was told to go online make arrangements and pay in advance. My husband made arrangements online filling out all information down to picking out an urn. And yes paying for everything with a credit card in advance. There was no human compassion or any sort of comfort with the loss of our Son. Almost two weeks passed and I asked my husband if anyone had reached out with information about when or where we were to receive his remains. Mt husband called and was told our son was not picked up from the hospital morgue for over a week after his passing and was told he hadn't been cremated yet and it may be another week before cremation .Plus addition his body would have to be transported two hours away to be cremated. My heart broke all over again. I felt so guilty and angry. Imagine the trauma as a parent to know your child was being treated like this. No way this should happen to your loved one. A few days later we received a call telling us his remains were ready to be picked up. Now we had to drive an hour to another location to pick his remains up. So we traveled to get our Son. We followed map quest to find this location in La Msea Ca. When we arrived the building was an older building with no windows and two doors that were locked. We had to knock to be let in. A lady opened the door. Asked " What do you need?" My husband's response was " we are her to pick up our Sons remains." She told us to come in. Asked his name. Went to the back brought out a black gift bag. And said " Here ya go." How cold and uncaring. I was told to ask for a letter to take for traveling with his remains to go through TSA. So with tears flowing I asked. Her response was "It's in the bag." As if I asked a stupid question. Our whole experience was horrible. No one should be treated like this. The guilt and trauma I have experienced during this process will always haunt my Momma heart. I would not recommend. read more

Believe the bad reviews! Unprofessional, unavailable, Put me on hold forever, Didn't call back, didn't follow up. On separate calls, when I escalated, a friendly operator said I'll transfer you to Sherry now. Minutes later, sorry I thought she was available. I found out I can put you through to Gary, please hold. Three minutes later still no Gary. Operator came back, unfort he's not answering. Oh I thought he was available. Yes, but it seems he is not picking up. Ok, please leave him my number, and tell him I will be unavailable for the next 90 mins. Then he calls during that time and leaves a friendly voice mail saying I could call him back when I was ready. Didn't answer. He called me back. I started to explain what had happened. He interrupted me over and over. Never let me complete a sentence. TOLD me that I had spoken to two supervisors there. I had NOT. Refused to hear my version. Told me there are other places I can call. This company treated me like this KNOWING I had just lost my mother. Don't use them. Even if you read some good reviews. If you don't care about how you are treated, and you don't care if you can talk to someone other than a call handler, then go elsewhere. I can't believe a company specializing on helping people after a loss can even employ people like this man Gary. He must be one of the owners. read more

My father was in hospice care at his home. The weekend before he passed I made on-line inquiries for cremation services as per his wishes. A Tulip representative immediately called me to tell me about the service provided. I was told that once my father passed, the hospice care nurse would call them 24/7 and that they would quickly pick up his body and take care of everything. I've never gone through this so I signed up with Tulip. My father passed at 10:30 pm. The hospice nurse called and was put oh hold for 30 minutes before a representative talked to her, telling her that they were very busy and would return their call as soon as they were able. No one called. At 2:30 AM I called the number and got an answering service (not affiliated with Tulip). I was asked for my name and number so that someone would call me back. I told that person that the nurse had called 4 hours earlier and no one had called back! My family decided to call Cabot & Sons in Pasadena which has a 24/7 call number. We got through and someone came to take my father's body by 4:30 AM. I finally got a call from a Tulip representantive and I basically told them to F! OFF! You can't begin the grieving process while your loved one's cadaver is still at home! If you want an easy, smooth and quick transition for removing your loved ones body, then DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!! Why this place is highly rated is beyond me and one of the biggest reasons I question Yelp. These people turned an already hard ordeal (death of a beloved family friend) into an utter nightmare. My mother has been pressed into doing the right thing for a neighbor who had no family left at the end of his road, because he was a good friend to live around. We all wanted to do his memory proud, and entrusted this company to properly cremate his body so that we could provide some small service for the man. Instead, his corpse was callously tossed around between the city and this company, to the extended effect that his remains are simply GONE. Any attempts to locate the body of a dead friend have been met with stonewalling and at times outright hostility by whoever the front desk agent at the time is. It's unconscionable that a company conduct itself in such a manner. This is but the first of complaints my family will initiate until we get to the bottom of this. Me and family filed a complaint against with Cremation and Funeral Bureau(CFB). Because they are refusing to uphold my legal documents to cremate my mother. We have tried on numerous occasions to speak with them and there legal and no one will return are call. My lawyer finally spoke with someone and they advised him that they are gonna hold on to mothers body, until the complaint we filed against them is completed, before they will do anything with her body. They have had my Mother-in-laws body for over a month now. After she was released back to us and transferred back to Tulips. They won't us know where she is and refused to release her to another cremation place. If you cherish your love one and care how you loved body is treat, find another cremation place that has compassion for your love one. I initially had this service set up before the passing of my baby girl. Once she passed I contacted them just like I was told and they stated to me that they would come pick up her body. She passed March 2 I contacted them everyday after to see the process and none of them were in the same page. I spoke to several different people and all told me different things. And kept getting the answering service. I canceled them and went with another contractor because at this point I couldn't trust them with my baby. The reviews were all positive so I gave them a call and spoke with the nicest and patient woman named Sarah. She gave me a quote over the phone and I couldn't believe how inexpensive it would be. They took care of everything over the phone. My aunt was so happy and couldn't believe we didn't have to go anywhere to handle this business, and that everything was done over the phone and on my laptop. I have been assured that upon payment that my beloved mother would be in their care within 24hrs. I have not been so devastated in my entire life!! My mom suffered in icu since September and I have not been able to have her by my side since then due to restrictions. I chose Tulip because I knew my brother's wish to be cremated and they were on the list provided by the medical examiner, which had business names and price comparisons. The price was fair for the service and necessary permits. The online forms were fairly simple but I did need assistance with logging back in and clarification on some questions. Communication was good about when my brother was released to their care, when cremation took place, and when ashes were ready to be picked up. Communication was a little slower when I needed more information on death certificates and whether they notify social security. They did get back to me with answers, just not quite in a timely fashion. I ended up researching and finding the answers myself before they responded, which took up valuable time. They talked me through the whole process and gave me updates, etc. from pre-deceased through delivery of the ashes and Death Certificates. I have a very positive review. A human error was made in leaving out one letter of something on the official death certificate. That happens sometimes with anything. But, Tulip Cremation acted right away and I received my replacement document with the correct spelling a few days ago. Sometimes the whole process is not perfect.
