My bestie and I were hungry and just randomly walked into this place. It looks so, so much larger (and a bit upscale) on the inside than out. The bar was full length. The booths were very roomy. Our bartender was in a very good mood because, baby, our drinks were amazing! I ordered a chicken and steak fajita quesadilla and, it was so good! It's not often I can finish a whole Mexican dish in one sitting, but I ate this up so quick! When I'm in Winston, I'm usually in this area, and would definitely go back again.

While in town for work, my coworker and I decided to try out Tulum Bar & Grill. The ambiance inside was welcoming and we were greeted happily by the hostess. Shortly after we were seated, our server came over and introduced himself and helped us navigate the menu for this being our first time. Our server recommended the Ribeye Steak Tacos. When I say these were the absolute best steak tacos I've had at a Mexican restaurant...I whole heartedly mean it!! The restaurant takes a 12oz ribeye and splits it between three tacos. The steak was very well seasoned and tender. I would definitely drive the 2hr drive back to the area just to eat these tacos again! I highly recommend Tulum Bar & Grill to all who visit Winston-Salem. I proudly say this restaurant receives the PHENOMENAL status!

My experience here was great. The ambiance is cozy although the space itself is huge. They have ample seating for dining and a spacious bar area. The waiter and other staff were kind and accommodating. I enjoyed the shrimp pineapple bowl and the cocktails were well crafted. I really enjoyed their Oaxacan old fashioned. I will definitely visit again!

I stopped by Tulum Bar & Grill and sat at the bar, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable experience overall. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, and the bar area is a nice spot to unwind and people-watch. The bartender was attentive and welcoming, which definitely added to the experience. I ordered a mango margarita, which was refreshing and well-balanced and one of the highlights of the visit. I also tried the shrimp and scallops dish served in a pineapple, which was flavorful and fun in presentation, though I did feel the pricing leaned a bit high for what you receive. Overall, it's a solid spot for drinks and a casual night out, especially if you're sitting at the bar. I'd return for the margaritas and the vibe, just with the expectation that it's more of a splurge than an everyday stop.

Came here for a late night dinner after a lovely Yelp event in the area. Got there about 20 minutes before closing, which somewhat bothers me because I think about the staff that I'm sure has been working hard and ready to go home. Despite it being later in the night, everyone there was still very welcoming and ready to take care of us. I'm always down for fajitas so that was the choice for me this evening. Lots of flavor coming from the steak. Very tender and not just overcooked at all. Great portion that they give you, was able to save some for the next day for lunch. Still delicious the 2nd time around. Chips and salsa were also good and fresh. This restaurant is huge with lots of tables, as well as a long bar to sit at. It was super clean, very well taken care of which was great to see. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

THE BEST QUESABIRRIA TACOS I have had in a long time! They even compete with a hole in the wall place on a quesabirria hop evening in San Diego!!! The 3 tacos were a nice size, full of juicy shredded beef and cheesy goodness! The consume was the perfect compliment to the tacos and the hot sauce was a nice surprise for for an added kick! I also grabbed some of my husband's guac that came with his fajitas and ate it with the starter chips and flavorful salsa. The guac was also very good even though it had started to oxidize (it was almost closing time). I didn't mind the very slight oxidation since it let me know the guac was homemade unlike other places that try to make the preserved guac version look made in house. This restaurant was also very large and clean with plenty of seating which would be great for groups. There is also a very long bar! Our server was very sweet and attentive! He also made sure to bring me extra napkins for my deliciously messy tacos!!! Can't wait to come back and have the quesabirria tacos!!! It will be really hard for me to try anything else because they are THAT GOOD!!!!

We have come here several times with a bigger group for our team dinners. The staff is very accommodating with larger groups and speed at which our order is taken and the food arrives is wonderful! Their menu has a variety of options and I have never had a dish I did not enjoy! Definitely a great spot to try if you're in downtown WS!

My wife and I were on our way to Asheville and stopped in Winston-Salem for the night. We were looking for something close to the hotel for dinner. I checked Yelp and found a few nearby options, then went down to the lobby to ask the hotel staff for a recommendation. She mentioned that Lulum was right next door to the hotel, which was perfect -- especially since the weather wasn't great and we didn't have to walk far. When we entered the restaurant, it was fairly quiet, with a few people sitting at the bar and a couple of tables occupied. If you've read any of my reviews, you'll know we enjoy sitting at the bar. We like talking with people, learning about the area, and just enjoying the atmosphere. The bartender greeted us right away, gave us menus, and took our drink order. My wife ordered a margarita and I had the same. She returned with our drinks and took our food order shortly after. My wife ordered a chicken dish -- chicken over rice with a cheese sauce -- and she enjoyed it. I ordered the Quesa Birria, which came as three pork tacos, and they were easily in the top three I've ever had. The homemade tortillas were excellent, the meat was very tender, and the chopped onions on top were a perfect touch. The dipping sauce that came with them really brought everything together and was very flavorful. Overall, the drinks were good but a little on the sweet side. They also added something sweet to the rim before dipping it in salt, which made it very sticky. Cutting back on that or just using lime with salt would be a big improvement. That said, the food was excellent, and if we're ever in the area again, we would definitely eat here. Forgot the chips and salsa were also very good I love the thin style chips they use.

The chori pollo was so good! Chips and salsa were decent, too. Service was good, ambiance was a little dark but nice. Comfortable temperature, can't complain. Overall positive experience.

What a great place if you have a craving for Mexican food! I mean real Mexican food!!! This didn't feel like every other Mexican restaurant you see in every town. The inside was beautiful and plenty of seating. They have beer and a full bar, so get a delicious margarita while you're there! We had a group of 8 and the service was stellar!! Everyone loved the food and the drink were cold and delicious. The chips and salads are probably the best I've ever had. I told them it was my son's birthday and they surprised him with a song and cheesecake fully decked out with a candle. Everyone there was so nice. I've been a few times when I'm in Winston Salem, I just wish they were closer so I could go more often!

We went on a Saturday afternoon picking it out of convenience with no real expectations. Both the traditional and creative menu items were all better than they needed to be. The place felt mid to upscale with reasonable prices and fast, pleasant service. Cocktails were generous and delicious. Only downside was it got a bit noisy but otherwise this just got bumped way up our list.

Very simple and warm spot for Mexican food. They had your typical chips and salsa, and the chips were warmed which is a plus. I got the Mexican Molcajete, something I've never had before, but I really enjoyed it. The chicken, steak, shrimp, and chorizo were all very well seasoned and the spices gave the broth a nice kick. I was not crazy about the cactus, but that's personal preference. I recommend using the tortillas on the side to make tacos as it is hard to eat out of the dish itself. The refried beans on the side had a good texture and the rice was just fine. The service was good and I was amazed it wasn't a bit more crowded considering the Mexican food here is pretty strong for Winston-Salem. Considering location, price, and food. Overall 4.1/5

On a work trip we got some food to go. Food was made within ten minutes of ordering it. We ordered Chicken fajitas and chicken chorizo nachos (not pictured). Food was good enough to eat without sauce/salsa. Would def recommend!

The chicken tacos were cooked well, but the cheese kept coagulating in the roof of my mouth. Wished it was smoother. The margaritas are ranked as follows: peach, strawberry, and passion fruit. For 12 oz, they are $7.50, which is great! The peach was fruity and tasty. Strawberry could get sickly very fast but still better than the passion fruit. The passion fruit was a thicker consistency of syrup, which threw it off a bit, and the flavor wasn't quite right. The berry sangria was missing something. It wasn't quite wine, not quite a fruit juice, and the fruit was all at the bottom, making it hard to drink. Not what we expected with the flavor profile. The quesabirria was flavorful with the beef and very tender. They definitely stuffed a lot of meat in the tacos, which will fill you up. Didn't like the cheese. It didn't pair well with the beef, and it was not enough in comparison. Overall, good tacos and would order again though. The service was fine. She was around enough for us to order more drinks and offered me a box at an appropriate time. The music wasn't too loud, barely heard over the crowd that started forming as we sat. Will try them again because the price is right.

Well, guess who makes sure there's plenty of salsa verde on your plate? Good ol' Pancho Villa, that's who. I have a certain fondness for Pancho's Green Burrito, and when I ordered that dish for lunch today there was a pool of delicious green liquid literally spilling from both sides of my plate! A bit messy for the table, yes, but far better than the scant offerings of their competitor. Pancho has long been one of my most consistent dining experiences in this city, which is why it's often the target of my attention for lunch. They get patrons seated quickly and orders filled quickly. The food is always good and there's plenty of it to enjoy. The service staff does a great job of attending to the wants and needs of their diners. It's easy to see why the place is popular -- and thus why a parking spot can be tough to find around lunch time.
