I ordered a combo which allowed me to try multiple things on the menu. I tried tacos with carne asada and a sope with carne asada. Not only were both items very delicious, but it was served fresh with your usual toppings. I also tried their tasty Jamaica juice, which is hibiscus, and I've heard many good things about their horchata. I try to order different items sometimes to try out something new to me. I have some favorites though. When I want a crispy taco El Rancho is hands down the best one I've ever had. Their shredded chicken is so good and they don't skimp on it. It's always packed full. The carnitas have been a favorite of mine for at least a decade, and they have a huge burrito that could feed two if not three people. In the last few years they added Birria tacos and they are the ones I compare all other Birria to and they are still my favorite. I have another great taqueria super close to my house. My latest visit to this taqueria was specifically to try their Quesabirria Tacos. This is a simple place with a vast menu and a number of tasty salsas. The interior is a bit worn but it is clean and colorful. I ordered the Birria tacos. There are 4 tacos topped with chopped white onion and cilantro. The tacos come with a grilled jalapeño, slices of radish, and lime wedges. These tacos are quite nice, made even better with a dip in the robust consommé. These tacos were among the best I've had in WS - close to those at Los Juanes, Tulum, Taqueria Lucianos, and El Camino Real. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem! The service is always quick and employees so warm and kind. It seems to be busy most of the time! The restaurant has lots of natural lighting and windows. They have fun music playing and people seem to have a fun time when they come. My favorite thing to get has been the Barria Tacos. I was only able to eat two out of the four because they were so big! I had a friend that got the quesadilla and he said he liked it, but it wasn't his favorite. The restrooms were not the best...it also is not in the best part of town, so I would recommend having someone go with you or to go during the daytime if you are concerned about location of restaurants! Traveling from PA Myrtle Beach coming through Winston Salem at 5pm. Wife looked up Jade Garden and it was closed on a Friday night. This place was next door. So glad we found it. Servers were young but friendly. Seated right away. We noticed lots of take out orders. I liked how you can see into the kitchen. Menu is plentiful. Lots of families seated around us. Bathrooms were clean. My Sepos (1st time trying) presentation was excellent and it was full of great flavors. My wife's shrimp quesadilla was excellent. We noticed a lot of people getting very large drinks and asked what they were. Our waitress said it was Mexican hot chocolate. The food was awesome, they have mexican coke which is a huge plus and the prices were amazing. Cool taco spot, I'm not sure if I missed it on the menu or they don't offer it but would have loved if they had chips and guac to start with (I did wind up getting chips and salsa) The plastic bowls and utensils aren't great, I'd prefer real ones but that's such a small thing who cares. I came here on a Friday for lunchtime takeout.. I called ahead to order and everything was ready to go when I arrived despite the restaurant being packed with customers. I ordered the Birria Tacos and a large Jamaica to drink and took my meal back to work to enjoy. The birria was perfectly cooked, and the cheese perfectly melted. The consome was chocked with meat and the portion was perfect. The Jamaica was perfectly sweetened and chilled. The only reason I'm taking off a star was because both the birria meat and consome were underseasoned. The salsa helped a lot and it wasn't inedible but definitely noteworthy. My favorite Mexican restaurant in The Triad area! Not only the food is amazing but it will definitely leave you full, plus the value is great! Once you go in you can just find a table & the server will be right w/ you. You'll get your order pretty quickly, just depends how busy they get & if you're in a large group. Every time I go in they always have high volume of to-go orders, so that's when you know the food is bomb. I usually get their orders of tacos (4 or sometimes 6) or their birria tacos. It was actually my 1st time trying birria tacos since they have been popular lately, & El Rancho def took my money since then! You get 4 & it has always been so filling & their consommé is just full of flavor. Best of all: it's only $10! As for the tacos I always get al pastor & steak (sometimes grilled chicken). The al pastor was so tender. Their grilled chicken is nothing special since it's just grilled, but definitely pour in their 5 of their homemade sauces & it makes everything better! 4 tacos are around $8, plus adding avocado is extra. I've made multiple mistakes in life. Three of which revolve around this place. Not living within an easy drive of it, and not ordering their Birria tacos sooner. My final mistake is not reviewing this place the absolute moment I got finished eating my tacos! But I hope you'll forgive me dear reader, as I plan to at least rectify that final error. IN my defense, the Birria tacos are not on the big menu board, and I didn't even know what that style of taco was until this year... far after buying a house a half an hour away. But now I'm addicted, and every trip to this place feels like a treat, so maybe it is for the best. Everything about these tacos are perfect. The tortillas are perfectly grilled and have soaked up some of that beefy oil. The texture is slightly crunchy but flexible. They come packed with beef, grilled onion, and cilantro as well as lime and radish garnish. They roll 4 deep, and are super filling. The tomato consomme they come with for dipping will have you saying prayers to the flavor gods to bless all other food around with the spices they've added to make it pop so nicely. There really isn't too much else to say. Do yourself a favor. Go there. Order these. Come write your 5 star review and post photos of their awesomeness. Do it. read more

Elite (no pun intended) tacos of Winston-Salem. I'd previously noshed on some street tacos from El Rancho, and was impressed to boot. Once I saw Erik S proclaim his stamp of approval on their quesabirria, I knew it was time to return. Per usual, Erik was right! These tacos were perfect in my eyes. The tortillas had been dipped in the consommé and fried, but they get a better crispy texture than a lot of quesabirria I've tried. This is absolutely essential, or else it totally falls apart and gets soggy in the consommé. Not the case here. These tortillas were packed FULL of tender, juicy, flavorful beef. All the right flavor notes. Smokiness from the peppers, clove from the broth, garlic, onion. Everything was meshed perfectly. Add some delicious, melty cheese and plenty of cilantro and onion, and you have the perfect tacos. Their consommé is the best around. I hate when it's thin and watery - this is rich and clings to the taco just like it's supposed to. Simply perfection. Try the horchata as well! read more
