We went to visit a few locations, and searched many more online for days on weeks. It was when we stumbled upon this venue that we knew our search was over. Owls Hoot Barn checked off every box we wanted in a wedding venue. There were even factors we had not necessarily considered in a venue that OHB was and to deliver without fail. The grounds of venue - gorgeous, the owner and her entire family/team - most amazing people you can find, decor and supplies - everything we wanted and needed, overall experience - exactly what you would expect when you think of a small piece of paradise/heaven! And this also includes the fact that our beloved pups were allowed to be on the grounds and partake in our special day! The owner of the venue, who was also our wedding coordinator, went above and beyond to help us arrange everything we needed to make it wedding perfect. Even going as far to come back on site for our rehearsal dinner during her own wedding anniversary! How many people would be willing to do that? Her passion for ensuring every couple out there sees their vision fulfilled is truly one that is undeniable and unique. We could not have pulled this off, let alone reduce our wedding planning stress significantly, without her help. My now wife, our current (and future pups) and myself now have found a place we don't just refer to as a hidden gem, but a small place we can call another home. For any future couples out there, whether you are considered local or coming from another state of the U.S. entirely, you will fall in love with OHB. Adena was the first venue we looked at, and we knew right away that it was everything we were looking for! ~Alana & Kevin feel like family, no joke. From the beginning, Alana was extremely communicative and transparent about costs, vendors, and even time. We have had such an amazing time communicating with her, that it's so hard to think that it's finally over. Jackiie and I knew from the get-go that we would be having a large, bohemian, non-traditional, DIY wedding, and Adena fully truly wholly delivered. From the GORGEOUS setting deep in the Catskills, to the STUNNING authentic barn that Kevin has put so much work into restoring, our wedding would not have been anywhere near as magical or perfect had Adena not hosted it. ~Alana's thoughtful and thorough list of vendors in the area was integral to us finding the perfect collaborators for our big day. The whole family was incredibly helpful and excited to get to help us iron out details and move tables around the day before (and of). Kevin had the best technical considerations and advice throughout the whole process. If you are looking for a transactional, cookie-cutter, wedding factory, hands-off venue, find it elsewhere. If you are looking for a human touch, endless enthusiasm, plentiful creativity, to feel cared for, look no further. We canceled all our future tours because we were so sure and we never had any regrets. Our wedding was rustic chic and while we only had 40 guests, their 15 acre space provided the most amazing backdrop. The venue has almost unlimited options for where you want to have different parts of your day (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) and Alana and Kevin leave a lot of the decisions up to you to create your day. If you make use of the space, it keeps things interesting and guests continuously amazed! Also, we were given a good amount of freedom in decorating the space to create the vibe/theme/style of our wedding. Some cool features that we easily were able to have were an outdoor photobooth (which they set up for us) and ending the night with a s'mores bonfire (they set up the bonfire and we brought/set up the ingredients). As part of their gift to every couple, they also got us a cherry tree (we requested cherry) for us to plant in their orchard!! They helped us plant the tree with our families the day after our wedding. These are just some of the personalized additional touches that Alana and Kevin provide that you won't be able to find at any other venue! They only do one wedding per weekend and it really feels like they care about you as an individual couple. Alana and Kevin were both very personable, friendly, and communicative throughout the whole wedding process. Even though COVID made things additionally stressful and difficult, and due to the weather, we weren't able to confirm if we'd be able to do our ceremony outdoors as planned until the morning of our wedding (the forecast was unstable with predicting rain up through the night before), Alana and Kevin were the best venue owners to work with given these additional stressful factors and it truly felt like they really cared about making everything as amazing and SAFE and beautiful as possible for us! I asked if I could be transferred to someone to talk about the river grill and she replied that it's the same phone line. I asked my question again and was told that it wasn't available. Could have saved me a couple minutes and the attitude.

There is so much good to mention from our stay at East Wind in Windham. There was also a few little…read moresurprises that were mostly because we didn't read the website description or dig thoroughly enough, so I will try to make this as helpful as possible! For reference, we stayed in one of the Lushna cabins that are best described as the size of a big teepee tent with one beautiful window wall. First surprise, I don't think were were fully expecting how small it was and that there is basically just a bed and then room for a bag or two. Yes, the bathrooms are detached and you have to go outside to get to them but they are a few feet away, private, and they keep them so incredibly warm that it was actually really nice in there. They are very spacious, have plenty of shelves and the shower is huge and luxurious. My bathroom at home honestly pales in comparison. There are two saunas on property but the one right outside of our cabin was not working, most likely because of how cold it was outside. It was a bummer, especially because we didn't want to trek to the other farther away one. We ate at Dandies, their on site restaurant, our first night and everything was incredible. Their staff was super friendly and lovely to chat with. We went back for the mulled wines more than once and stopped by in the AM for coffees before leaving for the day. It was great to have so close by. Our first morning we tried the breakfast basket and loved that it just appeared at our door. For $30 we got a Stanley thermos of coffee, hard boiled eggs, yogurt parfaits, OJ, and croissants. Nothing too crazy but I loved having a slow start to the day with breakfast in bed. Windham is filled with great places to eat, cute antique shops, a movie theater, bars, and is not far at all from other great towns. This wasn't a ski trip for us, but we never ran out of things to do. Yes, it was expensive and might not have fully felt like it was worth the price with all of the surprises, but we had an amazing time and we also got engaged over this weekend in this teeny tiny little teepee tent so my heart is full of love and 5 stars for everyone.

My short vacation in early January at East Wind Hotel was a present. It was a ski season but still…read morenot much of snow. I picked weekday because it was quiet and not too much of traffic of people. I booked a small log that made me feel like I stayed in a tent in the middle of forest. It was pro and con on this trip. Pro: Very privacy and I feel like I own the whole property :) It was only 3 of us, my puppy, my hubby and me. No other guess in another log nearby. Con: During winter, we weren't allowed to make a bonfire because the law and safety. Super cold outside and bathroom was not in the log. Not so much of restaurant nearby that opened on weekday. The room was cleaned, we got breakfast in bed at the first day and it was enough for a couple. Service was good, warm welcoming, helpful, friendly and super nice. The hotel is dog friendly so I can bring my dog to anywhere in the property. It was nice to be able to camp in the winter, heat in the log was pretty good and adjustable. It will be different vibes if we come in another season.

We couldn't quite figure out how to dial in their cabin's TV to watch the ball drop, but the vibes were immaculate, regardless. Somewhere after 1am, we scrambled down the hill from their cabin to ours, and I nodded off to sleep appreciating a symphony of sounds, both familiar and not: the quiet crackle of burning logs in our cabin's small fireplace, the creak of the stove as it heated, the rustle of tree branches outside our drafty window, and the patter of rain on the roof. Camptown offers a pretty special kind of experience in the Hudson Valley. It's a delightful alternative to the sparse overpriced hotels or AirBnBs with excessive cleaning fees. Essentially, you're glamping in cabins, but with some classy bonus amenities, including a sauna, help-yourself canteen, and shared firepit. As a bonus, Casa Susanna is their on-premise restaurant, and this James Beard semifinalist is undeniably award-worthy. These aren't the most glamorous luxury cotttages you might find, but I felt their prices were absolutely reasonable for what you get. And the service was really top-notch. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and responsive, even coming by to help us light our fireplace when we struggled to figure out how on our own. It's great to know Camptown is a solid housing option in the area -- and I genuinely can't think of anywhere else I'd rather stay if I'm visiting this part of the Hudson Valley.

It opened in 2023. LOCATION: Camptown Catskills is located in the rural town of Leeds, New York (population around 377), alongside County Road 23B, and just off Interstate 87. CONCEPT: Camptown Catskills is a restored motor lodge (formerly Rip Van Winkle Motel). The restoration reinforces the vintage charm of the 26 log cabins, and 24 rooms. The complex feels like an adult camp experience of sorts, with wooden chairs around a fire pit, exterior pool with bar, scattered wooden picnic tables, books to read, and a dining lodge (Cafe Susanna). Forgot something or don't want to leave the complex? There is a pantry filled with goodies such as s'mores kits and refrigerated cans of craft beer. Camptown Catskills an ideal destination to relax and explore. AMBIANCE: The complex is evocative of the region, with native plants and trees lining narrow pathways to the cabins and outdoor facilities. Cabins have a mix of original and mid-century-inspired fixtures, furniture, and surfaces (e.g. linoleum flooring, wide pine paneled walls and ceilings). The work of local craftspeople can be found throughout the complex. EXPERIENCE: The receptionist in the lobby reviewed all the complex's features, and provided a paper map for reference. Metal keys with leather evergreen tree cut outs were provided, adding to the mid-20th century experience. As we walked towards the log cabin the smell of the fire pit permeated the air, and set the tone for a relaxing weekend in the Catskills. Chairs on the porch of the cabin allowed further enjoyment of the distance fire pit and surrounding Hudson Valley landscape. Complementing this, an upholstered dining nook and a seating area can be found inside. The bathroom was supplied with handcrafted soap and custom woodsy-scented shampoos in the shower. Numerous windows with drapes surrounded the pine wood-lined cabin, inviting streams of sunlight throughout the day. TIPS: Cafe Susanna, located in the main building, offers breakfast on the weekends only. Gracie's, a popular diner just down the road, is an attractive option on weekdays, offering guests views of the Catskill Creek that flows below. To fully embrace all things Catskills, consider visiting Olana, the former estate of a Hudson River School painter Frederick Church; the former home of his mentor, Thomas Cole; the vistas they captured via the Hudson River's Skywalk; and Kaaterskill Falls. Several electric vehicle charging stations are located in one of the parking areas. Coffee is served in the lobby in the morning. A small Catskills-themed gift/momento collection can be found on shelves in the lobby, across from reception desk.
