I haven't been back to Yummy Sushi in years, only because I'm rarely in this area now. We picked up a platter for 4, $40 to celebrate Valentine's Day. I called to check if the order I placed online was ready, and the staff member had said yes. I arrived a minute later and the order wasn't quite ready yet.. but she was ready for after I utilized their restrooms. The sushi is solid average sushi - but I found it to be a decent deal at $40 and we were very happy with our Valentine's take out meal. We look forward to another platter the next time we feel like treating ourselves!

Came here for dinner one night, nice and unassuming place amidst the businessy area. the sushi was much better than expected. The salmon was amazing, and the chef's specialty rolls were very delicious and refreshing.

Quiet place and quick seating/service. Good sushi, soup, and salad. The yummy sushi happy lunch is to die for. A large variety of sushi rolls. We finished off the meal with a nice red bean dessert. Can't wait to come back for more yummy sushi at Yummy Sushi.

Dropped in after work with my kids on a Friday afternoon. Great ambience, quiet and cozy. Absolutely delicious tempura, gyoza and shumai. We had a tiger roll-- gorgeous and delicious! I'll definitely be back when I'm in center city for work.

Yummy Sushi is a nice and quaint place for sushi. Normally, dine in is spacious and generally quiet to to eat and enjoy your meal. There is additional dining area outside but my friend and I decided to order take out. With the fairly large order, it took us roughly 15-20 mins for us to receive our food. Overall, we were satisfied with the quantity, quality, and the service by Yummy Sushi staff. #supportLocalBusinesses

First tried Yummy Sushi through Grubhub when my bf ordered the tuna pizza. It was delicious ! This prompted us to come here during happy hour. Came here on Friday during their happy hour specials. They have outdoor seating, so we sat outside because the weather was nice. I can't complain about $4 sushi rolls and $9 signature rolls! We thought it was a really good deal and the sushi was pretty good quality. Of course I had to order the tuna pizza again. It's my new weakness. :) The service was great! Our server was friendly and attentive. The food came out fairly quickly. The restaurant is BYOB. Next time I go, I'll be sure to dine with wine. Thank you for the excellent service, Yummy Sushi! I look forward to next time.

Worst Ever! I don't understand why you can't get good rice anymore. This rice was sticky, stuck together, almost impossible to pull apart. Aweful. I ate the inside of this spicey tuna that wasn't spicey. What happen to the rice cooker? are you using too much water what. Tjhis is the Yummi inside the Acme in Northern Liberties, at 2nd and Girard Ave. Phila Pa 19123. They use to be good I don't know what happened. What good is Sushi wrapped in rice if the rice is horrible? Gee Wiz

Yummy run of the mill sushi. Not too fancy not too authentic but a solid choice for sushi. I came with a group we ordered chicken wings which was an appetizer special and edamame to share. Both were good. I ordered the incredible roll and another roll that I really did not enjoy. The incredible roll was very good. The service was nice as well. The place is very clean. I was visiting from Los Angeles on business and if I worked in the area, I'd probably patronize this establishment on a monthly basis.

First time ordering but sushi rice was a bit hard :/ I do like the lunch special and fast delivery!!

Was super excited to try this place! Presentation of the sushi was great, but the place is infested with bugs. I literally flipped the ginger off my plate and there was a moving gnat on my plate. When I told the waitress, she told me it was because of the sauce. I've never heard of such a thing in my life LOL. Please see attached for the video of the bug

Just tried the happy hour lunch deal; 2 rolls of sushi with a miso soup for $9! Can't beat that! Sushi was fresh and yummy. I ordered the eel avocado roll and New York roll. What I loved about their sushi was that there was more filling than rice. I don't care for sushi that is too heavy on the rice and skimpy with fish and other fillings. Yummy sushi didn't disappoint!! I'll be back for sure. Not sure what the dine-in experience is like there since I only ordered takeout. But it says it's byob so might have to try that option. :)

$8 lunch combo. Includes a miso soup.

I'm torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. Perhaps I'd rate it 3.5 stars. If you're hungry and are craving sushi, the $8 sushi combo deal comes with a good amount of food for the price - 2 rolls (or 16 pieces) and a miso soup. They also have a $12 combo that comes with 3 rolls. The service was friendly and quick, and the seating area looks modern and clean. Also, the rice to filling ratio was great - a thin rice coating with a lot of filling. I definitely wasn't hungry enough for the $12 combo. The $8 combo was actually pretty filling. I had a spicy tuna roll and a spicy yellowtail (with crunch and apples) and both tasted good overall, but neither was spicy. In addition, although nothing tasted fishy, the fillings did not taste extremely fresh either. This place wouldn't be my first choice for sushi, but its lunch combos definitely offer good value, if one were more concerned about amount of food than quality. I'd probably come back to try their specialty rolls, which I'm guessing are better than their standard rolls.

We had dinner reservations for 7:45 but got there two hours early because we really wanted to try out their happy hour. Huge selection of food for happy hour and delicious drinks. We waited an hour but were sat and immediately cancelled our dinner reservations because we knew it was about to go down. Fair warning - if you're approaching 40 like us, it's dark, it's loud, and you're sitting on top of people. It will be worth it. We had the double knot roll, spicy tuna roll, BAO, and some drinks. All 10/10. But the real star is the grilled meats. Specifically the scallion ribeye. We tried to take pictures of all of it but it was literally too dark in the restaurant. I would go back and just order ribeye skewers for the entire happy hour. They don't take happy hour reservations but get there early. It's the best.

It is…read moredefinitely very dark inside and I was glad to be seated in the less noisy basement compared with the super noisy bar area on the first floor that also has dinner seating. We sat in a cozy corner booth and could easily hear each other although we could not read the menu or clearly see what we were eating the lighting is so dim (and consistent with the gothic theme). Now onto the food. We ordered 9 dishes (waiter suggested 8) and it was way too much for us and I'm a big eater! Edamame dumplings - 4/5, may be just me, but I don't really enjoy mushy fillings to my dumplings. The broth they came in was amazing though Tuna rice cracker - 4/5, not really a cracker, more like a crunchy mini loaf of rice topped with tuna and a slice of jalapeno - delicious and much more filling than what I was expecting. I only gave a 4 instead of 5/5 for taste because of the unexpected presentation of the "cracker" Shishito pepper small plate - 5*/5 outstanding! I could eat these all day they were so delicious. I'm not sure how they flavor these or what light crunchy sprinkles were on top of this very generous portion of peppers (I would estimate maybe 30 peppers?) I'd go back just for this dish Black cod fried rice - 3/5, I should know better that a miso black cod will be somewhat fishy, and with it spread in chunks throughout the fried rice I'd say this was my least favorite dish. Crispy brussels sprouts - 4/5, a solid offering, not much to write home about Crispy tofu - 3/5, not particularly unique although it sounded amazing when described - cubes of deep fried tofu drizzled with peanut sauce on a bed of cilantro pesto. But not that tasty and not that interesting Scallop robo - 5/5, excellent with a kick from the spicy powder on these, note these are very small portions, three slices of scallop (not even a full scallop or if these were full scallops they were very thin) on a stick Ribeye scallion robo - 5/5, also excellent, with three chunks of tender grilled beef Mochi ice cream: passion fruit, matcha - 4/5, but mostly because I'm not a huge fan of mochi ice cream, I'd rather just have the ice cream or have it with a brownie or between two cookies So overall, service was great, not overly attentive. And the food was very solid with an outstanding exception with the shishito peppers. I'm not sure I'd go back as it is very dark in there and if I was seated on the first floor I'd not be able to have conversation with my dinner mates.

Let me tell y'all something…read more.. I came to Sampan tonight as a party of one, and apparently being alone is the restaurant equivalent of showing up to a cookout without bringing a side dish. Now before I start, let me say this: I'm a huge fan of the owner. Matter of fact, I used to work for him part-time years ago. So writing this review feels like having to tell your favorite aunt that her potato salad got raisins in it. Nobody wants to do it, but the truth is the truth. The night started with them seating me at the prep station bar in the corner. Cool. No problem. I like my peace. I like my solitude. I like pretending I'm a food critic with important opinions. What I don't like is sitting there so long waiting for service that I started considering applying for a job. Nobody greeted me. Nobody checked on me. Nobody even looked concerned that I was aging in real time. When someone finally came over, my place setting wasn't complete. No napkin. No proper setup. Just vibes and uncertainty. I decided to do the chef's tasting because I wanted the full experience. Big mistake. That tasting menu moved faster than a church announcement after the pastor says, "We're running out of time." My server never asked if I'd been there before. Never explained anything. Never guided me through the menu. He was talking so fast I felt like I was taking the SATs. The ceviche was okay. Not bad. Not great. It was there. The cheesesteak bao had less flavor than the hold music at PECO. And here's where things got ridiculous. The bao was greasy enough to lubricate a transmission, and I realized I didn't even have a napkin. Now I'm sitting there looking like I just changed the oil in my car. So I had to flag down the host and ask for a napkin. At this point, I'm wondering if I'm on a hidden-camera show. The rest of the tasting menu showed up one plate at a time, and honestly, most of it was so forgettable I can't remember if I ate it or imagined it. But then... Like an angel descending from heaven... That bronzino arrived. Baby. Listen. That bronzino and those string beans saved the entire evening. That fish walked in like Martin rescuing Gina from another bad decision. Perfectly cooked. Flavorful. Beautiful. For a brief moment, I thought Sampan had turned this thing around. The pork chop was pretty good too. Then the kimchi fried rice came out and said, "Not so fast." Now I've had this dish before, and I know what it's supposed to taste like. Tonight? Absolutely not. I took one bite and immediately started looking around for the version I ordered. It was so disappointing I sent it back. And when dessert time came, I was emotionally unavailable. I declined. Respectfully. I was done. Look, maybe they had an off night. Maybe the staff was overwhelmed. Maybe dining solo just isn't their thing. I don't know. What I do know is that one heroic bronzino shouldn't have to carry an entire restaurant on its back like LeBron in Cleveland. The fish did everything it could. It fought hard. It deserved better teammates. Unfortunately, one MVP performance couldn't save the game. For me, this is probably my last visit.
