love love love! came here before for HH special omakase for $65 and came back for its à la carte menu. the omakase was a variety of their hit dishes so it was good to try and know what to order for next time. my second time here , i got the menu below. 3.5/5: kaarage, juicy and perfectly crispy, taste like kaarage but nothing crazy special 5/5: hama chili, love the combo of yellowtail and mandarin slices, such a refreshing pairing 10/5: akami te, fav dish of the night!! somehow watermelon and freshness of the tuna works wonders, highly recommend 4/5: sea bream nigiri, fresh , can't go wrong with any notifies or sashimis here 3.5/5 crispy rice: good crispy rice, but nothing too crazy special for drinks, we got the classic highball and manhattan, and a shot of sake overfills into a japanese box! i haven't seen a place in philly pour it similarly to japan yet so this was cool ~ service was friendly and ambiance could get a bit loud depending on time and crowd, and very dark in here. will come back to try the rest of their crudo dishes!!

My friends and I came here for happy hour one evening. The space and atmosphere is so beautiful here! The staff was very nice and explained each dish when it came out. My friend and I did the happy hour omakase for two (9 courses) for $120 while our one friend ordered items a la carte. From the happy hour menu I got a lychee martini of course. The martini was well balanced with lychee and the right amount of sweetness. We got various items that were on the happy hour menu like the hama chili (one of our favorites! The citrus notes from the orange really brought out the freshness from the yellowtail), pork belly dish, wagyu dumpling (good flavors but a bit heavy/greasy), salmon and ocean trout sushi, etc. Many dishes were made to split but it was plenty of food for us to get full. At the end we got a vegan sundae which was this very tart ice cream (almost sorbet) with raspberry on top. That was one dish I did not care for but everything else was very flavorful and fresh. There were a few communication issue where we weren't sure a dish was for the omakase or my friend's a la carte but other than that it was great experience over all! I appreciated them taking my nut allergy seriously and made sure I knew what dishes had nuts.

Stopped in and sat at the sushi bar itself for a few small light bites. The setting is dark, moody, and lively. The place was full, most booths and tables taken right after open so reservations seem a good idea as they're still fairly new to Philly. Lychee martini was very light and balanced nicely, very well mixed. Ordered a variety of nigiri and sashimi pieces of different fish: the freshness was apparent. Each piece cut precisely. The sushi rice was also just perfect, very noticeably better when compared to other places. Also had a basic spicy salmon roll which was great as well, just delightful. A bit pricy versus other Japanese cuisine in the immediate area but the quality is definitely up there. They do have a happy hour menu, worth trying a few things or for a tasty dinner with friends. Thanks

Very much enjoyed our pre-Kimmel dinner at Uchi. Service was great--we'd included a note that we had to be walking out the door by a certain time and they confirmed with us and we made it with time to spare without feeling rushed. The space is lovely, particularly the sushi bar, which is set back in moodier colors than the main dining space. In the order that the dishes came out, we noshed on: - Bluefin Otoro (extra fatty tuna), which if you're a tuna lover, you just can't find fault with! Next time I might ask that it come at the end of the meal just so I could look forward to it the entire time. - Zero Sen (yellowtail, avocado, shallot, cilantro), which was so tasty, though the shallot overpowered the yellowtail. - Karaage (chicken thigh, sweet chili, seasonal pickle), perhaps my favorite karaage I've ever had, though not the crispiest, the flavor was spot on. - Softshell Crab (pickled cucumber, cilantro, avocado, soy aioli), a seriously good roll. - Hokkaido Uni (japanese sea urchin), always lovely. - Unagi (freshwater eel) - Crispy Rice (spicy tuna, tobanjan, chive), which was wonderful. I could eat crispy rice every day and be happy! The jalapeño had a lovely kick. Will definitely return!

Got the omakase and it's very different from the omakases we are used to! It is more like a tasting menu than the usual couple of apps then nigiri pieces. This one is spread out with pork and steak mixed in with nigiri. Not many nigiri pieces if that's what you are there for! I personally enjoyed this change! But if you like more nigiri they have a customizable omakase so I'd try that! They apparently help customize with what you like and price range you like too! Would definitely come back to try the customizable omakase! Also ordered hot rocks wagyu! Please get it! You cook it on a hot rock yourself and the experience is not only fun but delicious

One of the hottest and newest Japanese spots in Rittenhouse Square. We did a walk-in at 5pm and I was so happy that they were able to seat us with no wait time. I loved the vibe as soon as I walked in, so chic and gorgeous. And the lighting set the mood. We ordered 12 dishes from their HH menu. It's innovative Japanese food with creative and unique flavors and techniques. Kind of like Jap-Tapas. Lol. Portions are small. Chances are, it won't fill you up but it's a great place for delicious bites. I'm not a sauce person, but man, each one hit and I couldn't get enough of it. As each item was presented, it was like the dishes were talking to me...take a pic of me, I am so pretty. I was snapping away. Lol. Here is what we ordered from the HH menu... - Hama Chili - Sake Tom Kha - Avocado Nigiri - Nasu Nigiri - Kurodai Nigiri - Sake Nigiri - Beef Tsukune - Pork Belly - Walu Walu - Sake Temaki - Veggie Temaki - Coconut Tapioca with lychee sorbet Huge shout out to our amazing and awesome waitress, Emily. She was super attentive and friendly. The pacing was perfect with minimal wait. When a couple of our items took a bit of time, Emily kept coming by to let us know. The entire staff made us feel chillax. HH (from 4-6pm) is mad busy so it's best to make reservations. I plan to come back for their nine course tasting HH $120 Omakase for two.

I came here with some friends who came in town and we got their omakase experience. There are different types of omakase (one you can tailor to preference and cost) but we did the regular 10 course omakase that was about ~$180/pp. The food tasted amazing but most their dishes had the similar lemon/citrus taste. The fish was 100% the freshest, and I assume that's what they use to cut the fishiness out, but it worked out in the end. The banana dessert cake was the star of the show, but the sushi was better than I also expected it to be. The only thing I did not enjoy was the first dish. It was a sort of... lemonade in a mini cup and was said it was a yuzu drink. But tasted like super sweet lemonade. For an omakase, this just threw me off and I didn't really anticipate something like that. But nonetheless... Definitely worth a try just to try :) I'm huge on sushi and omakase and our server was super sweet. The whole vibes of the place was noisy and had a lot of convos going on. So it's not a super intimate place, but a place to gather with friends to catch up!

I have been meaning to check out this restaurant and so glad I stopped by for their happy hour omakase! It is such a great deal with quality dishes!! Each dish was presented beautifully and the flavors were unique! The fish tasted fresh and every meat dish was delicious as well. Loved each dish that we had. Shout out to Angela at the chef counter for making my experience here so memorable!

We went to Uchi on New Year's Eve for dinner. We got really lucky and found street parking right outside! The interior seemed very elevated and had a upscale lounge vibe to it. Our server Patrick was very knowledgeable and was very attentive. During New Year's they had a special Omakase menu (items not on the menu) that was $375 for two people. They also had their regular somakase (takes items from the regular menu) and vegetarian tasting menu. We opted to go à la carte because we wanted to choose our food. We ordered: -Uchi Salad (5/5): Very unique presentation of the salad wrapped in bundles with everything being edible. I especially liked the dressing. - Braised Short Rib (5/5): the short rib was so juicy and tender, and just the right amount of sauce and cauliflower. Perfect! -Sake Toro Nigiri (4/5): Love a fatty nigiri, but wish the soy sauce was stronger. Would also be nice to have some wasabi and ginger. -Kanpachi Sashimi (4/5): great presentation and flavor, but same comment as above wish there was stronger soy sauce and wasabi and ginger. I ordered sushi rice as a side and the temperature and flavor of that was perfect, though. -Zero Sen (5/5): (6 rolls) I wasn't sure how I felt about the cilantro, but it appeared very nicely with the role. I liked how unique it was while still having that Japanese influence. -Spicy Crunchy Tuna (4/5): (8 rolls) The crunchiness really came through on this role. However, the mayonnaise didn't really add anything. -Karaage (4/5): While the flavor was delicious and the interior was juicy, we expected a crispy exterior. It was less crispy and more of a marinade. -Kinoko Nabe (5/5): this was probably one of our favorite dishes! My husband usually doesn't like mushrooms, but he couldn't stop eating this dish. The flavors are very light, but they meshed well with each other and had the perfect amount of tentsuyu. There was an ample amount of mushrooms and was very flavorful. -Warm Banana Cake (5/5): we love a moist cake and what better cake than banana! The accompanying white coffee, ice cream paired deliciously and we could not stop eating it! Overall, we had a great time here with amazing food. Would love to come back and try the other items on the menu.

Celebrated my partners bday here and it was so special. We sat by the sushi bar and were throughly entertained watching all the chefs making our food. We got the $120 HAPPY HOUR OMAKASE for 2. Yes you heard that correctly!!!! They change the omakase menu everyday. Fave dishes: - White fish with jalapeño on a jalapeño puree - Blue fin tuna hand roll with crispy cereal - Unique dessert with pineapple, cilantro shaved ice, jasmine cream, and honey crumble

Everything was perfect at Uchi. The decor of the restaurant is very well done and the overall vibe is chill. Our waitress was extremely personable and knowledeable and did an excellent job guiding us through the menu, which was important given that it's very choose your own adventure. Along with the a la carte options, Uchi offers an omakase and somakase. The omakase is a set, 10-course menu while with the somakase, you give the server clues about what you're in the mood for and the kitchen decides what to give you. Note that for the somakase, you can request to have specific menu items of your choice included and you can provide a budget so that what's chosen for you fits how much you want to want to pay. For both the omakase and the somakase, the default price is variable depending on market prices. Our omakase was about $125/person and our waitress said it typically doesn't get above the mid to low $200's/person. Food wise, everything was great! The standouts were the blufin nigiri (both the medium fatty and extra fatty), the hirame sashimi, and the zero sen (yellow tail) sushi--the zero sen mainly because of the sauce. I also enjoyed the scallops for their uniqeness. Great addition to the Philly food scene!

Let me start off by saying I've been to the West Hollywood location last year and I absolutely loved it. Since Uchi has opened in Philly, I have been here 3 times already! Each time is better than the last. So I'll break it down: Service: Amazing. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They're very kind and are able to have great humor. Ambiance: Its giving French/modern steakhouse vibes. Uchi is always so well designed and decorated. Food: Most of the things on the menu are so worth it. Im going to highlight what I enjoyed below. 1. Nigiri/Sashimi - all of the nigiri/sashimi pieces that I've had are so good. They all have a slight additional ingredient that just makes it different than other Japanese/sushi restaurants. I haven't had one that I did not like yet. I highly recommend any of the bluefin tunas. Other highlights: nasu, unagi, 2. Makimono - these are your sushi rolls, Zero Sen & Softshell Crab are amazing. Other highlights: 3. Kinoko Usuzukuri - thinly sliced mushroom that reminds me a lot like a thin layer of lasagna. The sauce and shallots on top were surprisingly SO GOOD. 4. Karaage - the chicken one was great if you like a nice fried chicken during your meal. 5. Hama Chili - great burst of flavors in your mouth. 6. Drinks - lychee martini is my favorite drink here! Things I Would Pass On: 1. Braised Short Ribs - while they were well flavored and cooked well. It was just small tiny cubes of meat. A bit underwhelming in my opinion. 2. Shrimp Karaage - these reminded me of popcorn shrimp with a buffalo sauce on it. HAPPY HOUR: The happy hour menu here is so extensive - there are so many options to pick from! Happy hour is available throughout the restaurant from 4PM- 6PM. Be sure to make reservations so you don't miss out! Also, for HH, the nigiri orders come in 2!

Sitting at the bar was perfect.

Bartenders are awesome. Great knowledge of their wonderful sake list and food menu. The vibe is perfect for a date or friends' night out. The rolls are delicious. The edamame is one of the best I've been. There's a delicious citrus rub on it. Highly recommend this place.

Lobsters and crabs were abundant. I learned about this place awhile ago from YouTube of which many gave praises. We frequented many mid level AYCE places like this and we've found that as time goes by, quality degrades with restaurants like this. Now there was a rather long length of time between discovering this place on YouTube and actually visiting this place. I wonder if the praises that were sung about this place were still valid. I would say yes. As previously mentioned, lobsters and crabs were abundant and makes it worth the trip on that alone. As for the other offerings, it was mostly surprisingly good. Don't expect Michelin quality food here. Generally, it's about the quantity BUT the food is pretty good. The sushi/sashimi shocked me a little. AYCE sushi is usually just passable but here, I thought it was pretty good. Everyone in my group loved the quality of the salmon. Other offerings, of which there were many, were pretty good. Standouts were the lamb chops in my opinion. Dessert options wasn't as extensive as the other AYCE places I've frequented but they do the job. Aside from the usual fountain soda options (serves by the restaurant staff) , they had a few fruit drinks and a milk tea option as well as some specialty drinks in a can. Scale 1 to 5. (Keep in mind that this is based on quality you'd expect from a typical AYCE restaurant. Food 5 (large selection of food and that shellfish!) Service 5 (Friendly staff and were pretty efficient in clearing the plates) Cleanliness 4 (Place was well kept. Deducted 1 star due to the stickiness of the floor around our table which reminded me of a movie theater floor... lol) Value 5 One con to point out. The restaurant was rather large yet the bathrooms were small and couldn't accommodate a lot of people at once. Not a huge quibble as the wait wasn't astronomical BUT it did seem odd that the size of the bathroom didn't match the size of the restaurant.

visited this restaurant on a Saturday for lunch and was informed upon arrival that there is a…read more2-hour limit for dine-in, which is something to keep in mind, especially for larger groups. The restaurant itself makes a great first impression--it is very clean, well-maintained, and has plenty of parking available outside, which made it convenient for our party. The dining area is spacious with lots of seating, and they also offer private rooms that are ideal for large gatherings or special occasions. We had a group of about 20 people, and overall, the service was quite good considering our size. The servers were attentive, accommodating, and fairly quick in clearing plates and assisting when needed. It didn't feel like we were being neglected, which can sometimes happen with bigger parties. The highlight of this place is definitely the buffet. There is a wide and impressive selection, especially when it comes to seafood. They offer crab legs, whole lobsters, lobster claws, oysters, crabs, shrimp, and more. For seafood lovers, this is a big plus. The sushi selection is also extensive, and the fish tasted fresh without any strong or fishy odor, which speaks to the quality. In addition, they have a carving station, a variety of dim sum, and a good selection of soups, giving guests plenty of options to choose from. That said, there are a few downsides. The dessert section is quite limited compared to the rest of the buffet. There are not many options beyond basic ice cream and fruits, which felt a bit underwhelming considering how extensive everything else is. Another issue we noticed was that the restaurant only provides one crab cracker per table. For a large group like ours, this was inconvenient and honestly not very sanitary, as multiple people had to share the same tool while eating seafood. I also took the time to check the restrooms, and they were clean, which is always a good sign. However, I did witness a concerning situation where a staff member left the restroom without washing his hands. That was disappointing and raises concerns about hygiene standards. As a restaurant worker, maintaining cleanliness and proper sanitation practices is extremely important. Overall, the food quality and variety are excellent, and the experience was enjoyable for the most part. The restaurant has a lot of potential and does many things well, but there are a few areas--particularly hygiene practices, dessert variety, and small details like providing enough utensils--that could be improved to make the experience even better.

We were a group of 3 so one thing that was nice was that our waiter added 1 additional skewer/bao bun for the meals instead of ordering 2 plates of them. Out of all the food we ordered the most delicious were the meats; the wagyu and Korean bbq beef. They were so tender and lightly seasoned because the beef quality itself was good. The Wagyu beef was paired with an apricot dip that was really good. The chilli crisp chicken bao was also good but didn't have much sauce, so it was on the dry side. It was supposed to have chilli so we expected it to be spicy but it was not. We all really liked the crispy shrimp--it was truly crispy. The sauce and the radish paired really nicely with the shrimp as well. The one meal we did not enjoy were the soup dumplings. When we got them they were dripping of raw dough and had no soup in them. The waiter was kind enough to replace them but we still didn't really enjoy them. I did not try the hamachi ceviche because I'm pregnant but it was also a favorite from the group. For dessert we had the mini ice cream cones. The waiter again added an extra one for us. The flavors were chocolate banana and mango. They were good, small bites. One of them melted so quickly and fell on the table and the waiter was really kind and got us a replacement. I did use the bathroom and absolutely hated it. It was unbelievably dark in there and there were weird sounds playing in there. I went in there to make sure I didn't have food in my teeth but couldn't even see. Super inaccessible, hopefully that's something that can be changed. The service overall was clearly excellent! I would recommend this place, especially if you come for the meats. It was surprisingly filling too.

First of all - don't even contemplate coming here without a reservation. It's insanely popular and…read moreI can see why. We had dinner reservations for 7:45 but got there two hours early because we really wanted to try out their happy hour. Huge selection of food for happy hour and delicious drinks. We waited an hour but were sat and immediately cancelled our dinner reservations because we knew it was about to go down. Fair warning - if you're approaching 40 like us, it's dark, it's loud, and you're sitting on top of people. It will be worth it. We had the double knot roll, spicy tuna roll, BAO, and some drinks. All 10/10. But the real star is the grilled meats. Specifically the scallion ribeye. We tried to take pictures of all of it but it was literally too dark in the restaurant. I would go back and just order ribeye skewers for the entire happy hour. They don't take happy hour reservations but get there early. It's the best.

It feels like a converted cellar lit with candles, very vibey and romantic. Only thing I would say is it's pretty dark so if you have bad eyes it makes it hard to keep reading the menu to make your selections, so preview it off you know you are doing the tasting menu. The food was really good, and everything was presented well. The service was outstanding, the staff was attentive professional, and very patient. Stand out dish was grilled scallops. My table loved the fried rice. Enjoy your meal!!

Not to mention, many of the cooling dishes did their jobs in mitigating the heat. The super-friendly and informative wait staff was careful to make sure that members of our party with food allergies were safe from shellfish. And Chef Nok stopped by our table to say hello!

The bigger booth was so much more comfortable; it definitely enhanced our experience. The waiters were also wonderful with checking in on us throughout the meal but not trying to rush us out the door. We got 3 entrees + 1 side: - pla nung manao (branzino) - tumis pla (fish curry) - gai yang naa por (half chicken) - yum makhua yao (eggplant) My favorite was the tumis pla and I was sad we didn't have leftovers to take home. The eggplant (I'm not always the biggest fan) was delicious - great texture and complexity of flavor. The food is a bit pricey (portions are quite small) but it all tastes delicious. We shared this among 4 adults and I left satisfied.
