What I LOVE: That a Vermont Family raises their own goats, harvests the goats milk, teams up with other locally sourced entrepreneurs to create a variety of caramel flavors! They also offer locally sourced honey from a small batch raw honey apiary called Hera's Bees. Which sustainably harvests honey from their hives while allowing enough for each harvested hive to sustain itself through the cold Vermont winters! We stumbled upon the Farm while heading to Randolph for Thai food at SAAP. Which is one of the best Thai restaurants in the Eastern United States. We were greeted by Judith's 3 dogs, what a welcoming! They wanted their ball to be thrown. One of the last reviews stated they were generally there 10-4 on weekends so we took a chance, and I am glad we did. Judith shared their story, invited us to check out the production facility just over the ridge and even go see the goats a few miles away at the goat creamery / dairy. I have always been a fan of caramel, but had no idea you could take it to this level of flavor. We bought the 2oz jar sampler packs to return home to Pennsylvania. The salted bourbon and Vermont maple caramels were my favorite, my wife enjoyed the cold brew caramel and cinnamon. We plan to cut up some fresh apples when we get home to enjoy of new found heaven and remember just how nice Judith was and how she shared a piece of her life with us. I had a jar of Fat Toad Farm's cajeta in my fridge (for a very short time, mind you) and I would find myself fixated on having some when I was away from it - in the car, on the bus, church. Some people may like it on ice cream, but I preferred a few dips a day with my pinkie finger. Delicious. read more

Fat Toad Farm is amazing. A little bit off the beaten trail, this place is worth every bump in the road. Open 10-4 on the weekends, either the husband or wife of this family-run farm will show you the ropes of how the goats are milked, and how that milk turns into the delicious cheese and caramel you are about to taste. There is nothing in this world quite like Fat Toad Farm's maple chevre. Unfortunately, they are no longer making cheese, but don't worry, because their caramel is just as one-of-a-kind. With many samples to taste, you'll quickly be lusting after the quart-size jar of vanilla bean caramel...and it will be a good decision, trust me. You might not get to see the goats if they are out in the pasture, but lucky enough we drove down the road and were even let in the pen with them to play for a while. One hundred photographs later, I made quite a few goaty friends and had one of the best days of my life. I will never forget my time on this farm. A girl friend and I made this a stop recently while touring Vermont cheese farms and we were so glad we did. Picturesque Vermont farm with friendly owners and delicious goat's milk products. We loved sampling the cheese spreads and caramels. They are discontinuing distribution of the spreads (short shelf-life and not quite as popular as their caramels) but will still continue making it for the farmstand location. The caramels were just awesome - my husband is loving the bourbon and I'm quite fond of the cinnamon. YUM! read more

I have been a fan of Fat Toad Farm for some time just because I loved the way the products sounded, and the beautiful presentation of the farm, the animals, and people that populate it. I finally got a chance to try their Goats' Milk Caramel, and it was just as delicious as it sounded! Creamy, smooth, not too thick or thin, perfectly sweet. Great on vanilla ice cream, by itself, or cooked into a luscious cake for the holidays. I could keep eating it all day and lick out the jar! I had the pleasure of sampling three of the caramels that they offer and was blown away! The vendor was polite and informative and helped me understand the creation process of the caramels (goats milk and sugar) as well as helped me through the sampling! My favorites in order were the original caramel, spicy dark chocolate caramel, and the maple caramel. Fat Toad Farm's cajeta is divine. Seriously one of the most delicious things on earth. I had never heard of cajeta (goat's milk caramel) and admit I was a little skeptical - but it's the creamiest, not-too-sweet confection. So good on ice cream and fruit. (The vanilla bean is my favorite.) The packaging is lovely, too - the gift packs they sell on their site would be a perfect gift for any Vermont-lover or person who likes to support family-run farms and local food. read more

The farm is awesome, and the caramel is the best I have ever had. Upon arriving you can take a tour of the farm and meet the (very friendly) goats. The owners tell you how the process works, as far as going from goat milk to delicious caramel, which is so cool. You can tell the goats are treated very well, which made me happy. In the quaint little store there are samples available so you can try all the different flavors. We went with the Irish Whiskey and the Vanilla caramel. The caramel is amazing, you can taste the goat milk but it is the perfect combination of sweet and gooey. I also like that it is all natural - there are about 5 ingredients listed on the jar, as opposed to like 25 different things you can even't pronounce. The farm is in the middle of nowhere, but definitely worth the trip! read more

We opened the jar of cajeta and wasn't sure what to expect. It was so incredibly delicious. Very creamy and just enough sweetness. It was delicious on ice cream but enjoyed dipping a spoon and savoring the taste. Definitely worth trying. read more
