There are a handful of lots within a few hundred feet of the office. I've been to Tung's twice and both times I've been able to park my car, head to the building, go in the elevator, do the deal, and return to my car in under 15 minutes. If you're a first time gold for cash trader like I was, here's what you need to know. After reading reviews I decided to take some old gold jewelry to Tung. I went into the private room and showed them what I had. They told me I need to have it certified and gave me an address where I could have the jewelry melted down and certified. The language barrier made understanding what they were telling me difficult to understand. Eventually I got it, went there, paid the fee, $35, and returned to Tung with the certificate and the gold. In literally 1-2 minutes cash was in hand for karats and weight at the current market price. I wouldn't hesitate to return to Tung, go with confidence. Another lesson I'll pass to newbies: Weigh your gold prior to going to the melter, a sloppy melter can splatter the metal during the melting. If you need a fancy place with someone who will offer you a cup of coffee then Tung isn't your guy. His place is no frills, his English isn't that good, but he is all business. I was in and out in about 3 minutes. He got my gold and I got cash. I went to 2 other places to get an offer on my gold. Place #1 offered me $350. Place #2 offered me $330. Tung paid me $460. Yes parking in downtown is a PITA. Yes it is an old building. Yes you have to take an elevator to the 6th floor. So what. Following is my story & experience. ADVANCE WARNING!!! If **EXTREMELY LONG** reviews ANNOY you, STOP NOW! I don't often give reviews. When I am motivated to do so, it's typically when I am either SUPER HAPPY or ULTRA UPSET with an experience. Disclosure given! There's a special situation / project that I wanted to start, and it came to mind that perhaps selling some physical gold that I've had in my bank safe deposit box might be a good way to raise the needed liquidity. I go online and check the spot price of gold, and see that it's right about $1320 per ounce. BTW, this was 2 days ago, on Thursday, May 10th. On gold's historical charts, I see that gold broke the $1000/oz point in 2009. The all-time high was just over $1900/oz in 2011, and the year-end closing high was at $1664/oz in 2012. So, with gold currently in the $1300+ range, I thought that over-all, that it was at a very acceptable price point. Since it's been years since I last bought or sold any physical gold, of course, I do what everyone does now when they want to TRANSACT - go online & check out reviews, right? I just Google "best places to sell gold in Los Angeles" and then start reviewing the results that came up. Some companies / stores have reviews but no websites. Some have reviews & websites. I start calling. Some places answer, some don't - just get voicemail message. Being in the San Gabriel Valley area, I first call a couple of places in the local area that would be a easy drive to - ie, Pasadena, Glendale, Los Feliz, etc. I talk to 3 places and tell them that I want to sell 1 oz. Credit Suisse .9999 gold bars and ask for their quote. With spot gold price trading at around $1320 per oz, 3 of the companies were willing to give me quotes over the phone. 1 company said they would pay me $1230 and 2 companies said they would pay me $1220. So, it seemed that the "bid" side of the market - ie, what a retail customer (myself) could sell at was basically at between $90 to $100 per oz below the spot price of gold at $1320/oz. To reiterate, since I haven't been active in the gold / precious metals market for many, many years - what the heck - I guess that's **JUST** where the market is at, if I wanted to sell. After those first 3 calls, going down my list - I get to Tung Gold Silver Exchange. I call and get ahold of Tung. At first - I was somewhat ANNOYED, because Tung would **NOT** give me a quote over the phone. He just kept telling me: "Come to my shop! Come over and I give you BEST PRICE! BEST PRICE!" Tung Gold Silver Exchange is located at 650 S. Hill Street (#622). Hill Street is basically the heart of the Downtown LA Jewelry District. While I drive through Downtown LA occasionally, due to busy traffic & bad / expensive parking, I try to avoid going there unless I absolutely have to for a specific reason. Since I was now interested in selling gold, and the Downtown Jewelry District is home to literally HUNDREDS or even THOUSANDS of retail jewelry & precious metals shops, dealers & manufacturers, it started to look like a pretty good option as far as a place to go. Going through my online search, I found 5 other companies (besides Tung) that advertised they would buy precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, etc.). I figured that having gotten the 3 phone quotes and using those as a guideline / baseline, that going to a place like the Downtown Jewelry District where there are MULTIPLE options within a concentrated area was definitely a good choice It wound up I could take the Metro Gold+Red Lines to downtown to avoid the aggravation of driving & paying for parking. Once I get to Tung Gold Silver Exchange, I see Tung through the window of his office / shop on the 6th floor. He buzzes me through the security door. Go inside the small waiting area, and then go into another small "SECURITY ROOM." There, you can lock the door to secure yourself from the lobby area. I'm looking & dealing with Tung through a plexiglass security window. I show him the 1 oz. Credit Suisse bar. He puts it on a digital scale to ascertain the weight. Then, he uses a handheld gold purity testing device that laser scans the gold. Everything checks out A-Ok. Then, he tells me that he will pay me $1330!!! I whip out my cellphone & doublecheck the "Gold Silver Price Now" app for the current spot price of gold, and BLOW ME OVER if Tung isn't offering me **OVER SPOT** price! I have NO IDEA why he was offering **SUCH HIGHER** price than all the other quotes I had gotten previously, but obviously, this was a NO-BRAINER!!!
