I read the reviews and was excited to go to this old bar that I somehow had missed in the 50 years I've been dining/drinking in Sunset Beach. Took my wife for an afternoon beer. Good, private parking for near the beach. Went in the back door and was greeted with a strong stench of urine. Continued thru the pool table room with no relief. Once we got to the front bar, the odor subsided somewhat but was still prevalent. We took a seat at the side bar, next to the front door, which thankfully was open. A nice breeze killed the urine odor. The service was excellent and friendly. A few bikers and an older lady at the main bar. The dive bar beach decor and the design was just fine, but nothing had been cleaned in ages. Dust everywhere. Sorry to say, we won't be going back :( read more

I often frequent Turc's. Normally, the bartenders suck ass, have poor customer service, non-friendly attitudes and overcharge for their weak pours. However, Kyle, the barback that should be a bartender as he was the most friendly, welcoming and provided the best experience of everyone. An all around good dude. Turcs is incredible old-school ambiance mixed with a youth-y crowd (usually). It's literally next to the beach so it's nice to be able to have a drink and then walk on the dunes. There's a legit fireplace, a couple pool tables, and fish tanks that rally make the place feel great. Jenny is the best bartender because she's definitely makes you feel welcome. Drinks aren't very expensive and there's a very strong camaraderie. The bar's clientele is typically 20s-30s so if that's your crowd, you'll fit in well. read more

After many, many years of driving by this place, I finally made it to Turcs on a Sunday afternoon. The bartender was nice (I did not get her name) and served up a couple of very strong gin & tonics. However, I could really do without the foul mouthed rap music being played at nosebleed level. I mean, this is Sunset Beach, not Compton. The average age of the clientele at this hour of the day appeared to be early-forties at the youngest so I thought this was kind of odd. Other than the music, I loved the ancient bar along the wall, the old glass windows and the large fireplace. The place does not lack in atmosphere and felt warm, welcoming and unpretentious. The drinks are strong and very reasonably priced but it may not be worth it if you don't like to hear this kind of music at the beach. Note: This review is a revision of my first, which might have been a little too harsh. I did this out of consideration for the status that Turcs has as a Sunset Beach institution and that this was my first visit. read more

As someone who lives just a 5 minutes away from Sunset I've been to Turcs many times and it's always a great experience. The beer and glasses are super cold and the staff is always friendly. Prices are super reasonable. read more

My first visit to Turcs was on a Saturday night, and I enjoyed it. When our group of four first arrived there were only a couple other people there, most of whom were seated at the bar, so we ordered a round of drinks and retreated to the corner to play their oversized Jenga set. Several rounds of drinks later, and several rounds of Jenga (most of which I lost) later, we headed out. But the cheap drinks poured by friendly staff meant I came away impressed, and if I'm bar hopping in the area again I definitely intend to stop by for another round (but first I need to practice at Jenga). read more

I am extremely unsatisfied with my experience at Turc's. I was harassed by Zach, a drunken employee. I stopped by with my friends. I didn't have my ID with me, so I was asked to leave. Fine. When I was waiting for my friends to finish their drinks on the patio with my boyfriend, a drunken man came outside. It turns out it was "Zach", he told us he was an employee. He was very intoxicated and was staring at my crotch. I asked what he was looking at, and he said, "I won't say it out loud because I think it might embarrass you, but I will whisper it in your ear." He proceeded to ask how old I was and made remarks on my appearance in front of my boyfriend, calling me cute, etc. He told me I was not old enough to be on the property and kicked me off. He was extremely unprofessional, let alone he sexually harassed me. I had my boyfriend ask the bartender his name. After she told us, he came outside. As we were crossing the street to leave, he was yelling "come back and open your mouth." and "Say it to my face." Indicating that he wanted to fight. I will be telling my friends that are local to the area. I am extremely upset and feel violated. After we met up with our other friends that were with us at the bar, we told them what had happened. Our friend, Mason, said that the employee, Zach, told him that he looked like a rapist and said that he was going to rape at least three children within his lifetime. I hope to be hearing from the manager as I will be calling. read more

This will be my first and last time in the bar. If u like going to bars where the bartenders are drunk behind the bar. Then by all means go here. She will get aggressive and try to fight you after having a few shot thrown back before 6pm. This is exactly what happened to me. She grabbed the glass from my hand and broke my nail. She lunged at me and basically tried to get into a physical fight with me. You're a bartender not a boxer. Get your profession straight. You weren't even there and refused to listen to what happened from paying customers at ur bar and didn't refund me for drinks I paid for and didn't drink. I recently brought my husband here on a vacation in CA- I used to drink here 13 years ago as a wee young'un, while I bartended in Sunset Beach. Turc's was just as I remembered. Yes, its a dive bar. Yes, it's full of locals. But I didn't feel any sort of safety issue nor did I feel unwelcome. When we first got there, there were about 10 people at the bar area and Maggie the bartender was fun and friendly. Right away an older gentleman at the end of the bar bought a round of drinks for everyone, including us! It was a great start. Maggie was able to give us a great restaurant rec for dinner (Walt's Wharf FTW!) and all in all I really enjoyed Turcs. read more

Yep... it's a small local dive bar. I like it though, and here's why you should like it too: 1. You never have to wait long for a drink! 2. The fireplace near the bar is a cozy place to sit with friends 3. There are always local newspapers sitting in a pile waiting to be read. The police report section always provides laughs as you read about the "problems" of small local beach communities.. ie, strange animal reported in Rossmoor stalking home, turned out to be a cat. 4. My favorite dive bar in sunset.. Great escape from the normal oc bars. Maggie on Sunday's is friendly and keeps your whistle wet. They don't have a kitchen but if you play your cards right Maggie will have whipped something tasty up. Been coming here for years and will keep coming for many more. read more

Best dang bar dive within 55 miles located foot step from the sand ... The atmosphere is by far the happiest & chill pub around .... All the locals ride there bikes for cheap beer or a strong cocktail .. It's family owned for over 36 years i dig that ... I love that about the place ... The bartenders are pretty easy on the as well .. Jenny whom works Sunday- Wednesday nights is the fave by all the locals!!! The others girls are pretty friendly also !!!! This place was sweet! Bartender was cute and paid attention. The locals were very cool too. This one gentleman - just call me 'Gallagher' he said - was watching us play pool. He remarked that were playing some really good games and he wanted us to play a game on him. Cool! I thought he'd put some quarters in but no - homie had a key and unlocked the balls. He said he doesn't own the spot but the managers let him give out free games once and while. Sweet! I must say that I played the best pool of my life that night! That's to say that I managed to win a few games. Luckily for me, I pulled out some great shots cause my lady friend - who plays often - was killing it. I managed to look like I knew what I was doing for a change. Oh yeah - someone was also playing some rocking tunes when we were playing pool! Learned about bands like Alabama Shakes and City and Colour. Highly recommended bands. Granted, I'm a dive bar aficionado but I think most people could have fun in here if they gave it a chance. Some months ago, gf & I wandered in here one night after dinner @Silveras in HB. Looking for danger but not sure where to find it, we made a random aim to check this place out. Cool log-cabin feel w/the indoor fireplace! Felt a bit overdressed at first from dining. Then some friendly hot low-key guys made us forget, or rather, couldn't care less what we were wearing! Talk ab/charming someone's pants off! But we behaved. Or tried to anyways. Good times--here's to Turcs! Too bad we didn't get to finish our drinks though. I've been going to Turcs for years and love the dive aspect and proximity to the beach. However I can't stand how disrespectful their bartender Hannah is. She is always in a bad mood and has consistently been very mean to customers and myself. She has turned Turcs into a toxic environment and is the reason I will not be coming back. Half the time she takes my money for drinks and just throws it in the top jar which doesn't sit well with me either. I'll miss going to this bar. read more
