We were there tonight. 6:30 res we were seated right away. Sadly, the server had a huge station and was being slammed with tables. We waited 10 min before we were greeted. 15 min before we got water. 25 min before our order was taken. The hostess was aware but barely involved. It was ridiculous. The hostess could have been bringing water and bread and taking drink orders. She didn't. Occasionally she would do something in service of the tables. Very poorly run. The server would work one table at a time when she could have touched multiple tables at once. When we did get our food it was mediocre . The artichoke hearts were breaded with no seasoning. Potatoes with the entrees were over garlicky. Entrees were meh. $300 including tip for 4 with wine. For that amount you can do better. We don't recommend. read more

The Turf catered a wedding shower for 55 that we held at the gorgeous Altamont Manor. The food and service were absolutely outstanding. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious ranging from still crisp fresh vegetables to sliced beef in mushroom gravy to some of the best eggplant parm our had ever had -- and many of them were from Italian families with great cooks so that was a profound compliment. The service was prompt, friendly, and professional. We had dessert served at the table. The pacing excellent and the value was the best we have seen in any local caterer -- and we have done a number of events. Don't let the word tavern in their name dissuade you from checking out their options because they have an elegant, delicious and wide ranging catering menu. read more

We just had what might very well have been the perfect meal. We started with the escargot on mushroom cap special, the Prime Rib Poutine. The escargot dish was loaded with flavor with a delicious garlic butter to spoon over. The Prime Rib Poutine could very well have been a meal on its own, delicious beef, melted poutine and thick cut steak fries under the layers of beef. Our meals came with a side salad on a chilled plate!! All of the Turf's salad dressings are homemade, we both ordered the creamy cheddar dressing and it was hands down the best dressing I've had on a salad. It was similar to blue cheese but with cheddar. The Tuscan chicken OMG, perfectly cooked chicken with Canali beans and spinach with another delicious garlicky butter sauce and lemon. The Beef Wellington was a tender perfect medium rare filet mignon coated in a mushroom and Prosciutto in a flaky puff pastry. We ended our meal with Crème brûlée, it was our first time trying this dessert and it's a new favorite, it was so good we forgot to take a picture. This place is OUTSTANDING. I had never heard of it until Schenectady's restaurant week and then decided to give it a try as their menu sounded amazing. Boy am I happy I did! The braised short rib was the most tender meat I have ever had and the crispy onions on top?? Perfection! Then I try my boyfriend's shrimp genovese and I cannot decide which one is more incredible!! We also got the crab cakes and pulled pork slider apps and both were excellent as well. Then for dessert, the hummingbird cake (a new fave of mine) and tuxedo mouse cake. This place can be best described as "edible food". I suppose I had high hopes for this place. The hours are very strict and it seemed like I could not get a reservation as they are somehow always booked up. When you view the menu you assume it's going to be a decent place based on a price per plate. Then you get there. There's 2 sides. A restaurant and banquet hall. I've been told the banquet hall food is bland and mediocre but I figured that's pretty par for the course with most "catered" style food. You walk into the restaurant, and a vaguely dressed woman barely asked "can I help you?". The place wreaked like cigarettes when we first walked in so we were already like oh here we go. I say vaguely dressed because she had no indication she worked there. Just a woman in a coat. We sit down at a table that looks like it was from Olive Garden in 1999. The wall decor reminds me of a diner. The walls and carpet, while mostly clean and whatnot, looked also out of the 90s. It looks like the bar maybe got a refresh a little newer but it looks like bathroom tile and is a very odd design choice. Also our table was very uneven and rocked a bit, which was fine until dinner came. Our dinners were both fine. The food wasn't anything I'd rave about. We agreed it basically tasted like a dinner we tried to cook at home, and while it was edible/ok food, there was a specific thing missing. Oh yeah, taste. When I spend something like 30$ per dinner, it should at least have some decent flavor. Nothing really popped. The sauce on my dish was the only thing that had something to it. Everything else tasted unseasoned. We also had the pleasure of another guest being loud and ridiculous the entire time we were there too which did not help. You could say it's an "open floor" concept so really nothing to keep you from hearing every single human around you, loud or otherwise. Everyone likes to have a good time when they go out, but we all agree if a restaurant has a reasonable expectation of being somewhat polite, you at least try to keep your conversation at a normal level. No one asked him to quiet down a little, they just kept feeding him alcohol. Oh joy for us. Overall, the short of it is, the place isn't worth your time or money. I think their main business is repeat families that have gone to and loved it a long time. It was just to far off what you expect from going out to eat and enjoying the food. read more

Some food was nothing special: *Two salads--prepackaged mixed greens with a few slices of cucumber & two dressings on the side and a Caesar Salad *Bland Tortellini dressed in a little Italian dressing Protein was disappointing: *Dry, over baked slices of chicken breast Best dish: *Delicious roasted potato wedges were Five Stars. They were roasted nicely, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And seasoned well. Good: *Green Beans *Rolls (Butter was on each table) *Dessert was slices of Carrot Cake with a dollop of whipped cream topping. The cake was food service/commercial but moist with walnut pieces. Service was efficient and pleasant. Water was refilled regularly and coffee or tea was offered often. It may be a good place to eat during regular service based on several reviews, but this buffet was somewhat effortless. We had a buffet luncheon here three years ago, and the chicken was better, but again it was not served as warm as it should have been. Other: Cloth tablecloths and napkins were very nice! The banquet room is a good size for a small to medium size gathering and has a bar setup at one end if wanted. The private entrance is a plus, and parking was very nice. The tile floor in the ladies room needs to be cleaned better, and the wall to wall carpeting in the banquet room likely needs to be replaced because it is discolored beyond cleaning. read more

I had high expectations considering the website, reviews, and appearance of the outside. We went for dinner at 6:30 on a Wednesday and the clientele average age is 65, approximately. The house wine was terrible, but free with an entree so that's fun. Appetizer bread was warm and fine. We ordered fried artichoke hearts for an app, they were pretty good. The sauce was literally melted butter and seemingly jarred minced garlic, but tasty. The entrees were the real let down. The lemon pepper risotto (subbed for pesto they were out of) tasted like plain risotto they squeezed some lemon juice on as it left the kitchen. Both my salmon and my partner's steak were overcooked, but had good flavor and were good cuts of meat. The waitress we had was friendly and perfect amount of attentive. We won't be back, unfortunately, unless the chef learns a few new skills. at those prices the food should be MUCH higher quality. read more

Got take out for Easter Sunday. We all got the ham dinner which came with a salad, dinner roll three slices of ham, red mashed potatoes, grilled pineapple and asparagus. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and a lime chiffon pie for dessert. The ham was good and enjoyed the grilled spear of pineapple. The Mac and cheese was served with a generous helping of Parmesan on top. It was also tasty. The best was the lime chiffon pie. What a wonderful combination of tart and sweet. The lime was more like a combination of gelatin and mousse with a generous portion of meringue. Wonderful. I know it is difficult to prepare dinners for takeout and so many, the effort was appreciated. I look forward to going back to the turf when this stay at home order is over! read more

Though I came here for dinner, I was really looking forward to their hummingbird cake -- a banana pineapple spice cake topped with cream cheese frosting. But before dessert, I started with the fried artichoke hearts as an appetizer and they were delicious. The garlic butter sauce that accompanied them was super tasty and also made a great sauce for dipping the bread in. For my entree, I ordered the petit filet and shrimp, which came with mashed potatoes. The shrimp were covered in the same garlic butter sauce as the artichokes, so I was certainly happy about that! Though the filet was not medium rare like I ordered, it was still tasty and I enjoyed the steak sauce it was topped with. As for the dessert, the hummingbird cake lived up to the hype! It was sooo good. It was full of pecans and you could taste pineapple, banana and coconut in every bite. The cream cheese frosting was so creamy. Went her for a birthday celebration . My first tone. Very friendly staff. We were a crowd of 12. Our waitress was on her A game. Never missed a beat. Quick to refill drinks. They started us out with a antipasto. Cured dry meats and cheeses. Peppers, and slaw. Crostini's. Very very good. Would go back for just that dish. Got the artichoke pedals. Very tender . I went with the Queen cut Prime Rib. Rare. Cooked perfectly. Side salad. Service was timed perfectly. My husband went with the seafood fra Diablo. Said it was good. We had our daughter's baby shower there on Jan 8, 2022 and it was above and beyond our expectations! The food was exceptional, the room was beautifully decorated, the waitstaff were so polite and professional. They went beyond what we asked for. Been meaning to come here for a while. My father in law has been here and said that I would like the food. It is my understanding that they have renovated the outside of this place and it looks alot more inviting than it did before. So seeing though my in laws had their grand daughter we thought it would be better if we ordered pickup. So my review is solely based on takeout food, although the menu is the same. I wasn't even sure if they would take a pickup order being a Saturday night but the girl that I talked to said let me ask the chef and she said it wasn't a problem. I ordered their filet and shrimp Genovese, my wife ordered, wait for it.....chicken parm (baked not fried which is a nice change) My in laws split the seafood fra diablo. All dinners were served with a house side salad and bread. . I ordered their balsamic dressing. They said it would be 25 minutes, I thought that was pretty fast especially for this type of restaurant, on a Saturday night. As I entered to pick up the food I was met by the hostess, she said you are here to pickup food? I was like yea, how did you know? Did my sweatpants give it away? She got a good laugh at it. They were just wrapping the food up as I entered so it was great timing. As we arrived back at my in laws house, all of us were starving. All of our meals were wrapped in plastic wrap over the to go containers. I started with the salad, it was ok but the dressing was phenomenal! I eat half of the loaf of bread they gave us dipping it into the dressing, it was delicious. My entrees was perfect, the steak was cooked correctly and the shrimp were different, in a good way though. They were breaded and pan fried with some type of yummy sauce on the top of them. I only wish there was more of them, they only give you 2 with the dinner. I tasted my wife's chicken parm and it was one of the better chicken parms I have eaten, she loved it especially because it wasn't fried. My in laws seem to like their dish as well. This review is long overdue. I have been to the Turf several times and booked a few banquets with them over the years. My mom loved this place and I would take her here for their awesome Mother's Day brunch along with various times for lunch and dinner. Their food, quite frankly, is delicious. Maria is awesome to work with in booking events and just makes the process so much easier. My mom passed during this Covid time and we held a celebration of life for her as soon as restrictions were lifted. I have to say they hit it out of the park in their safely protocols and again their food was excellent. So if you're looking for a place to hold a banquet, either during Covid or after when we all can party like rockstars, this is the place to do it! read more

Dinner here was pleasant. They seated our party of 8 efficiently. The restaurant has a homey, intimate feel. Low ceilings, clean, brightly painted walls, table cloths and somewhat dim lighting. Loved the fresh bread and butter on the table. The menu has a lot of surf and turf selections - huge portions. Hubs ordered the honey bourbon pork which was salty and tough but the mashed potatoes were tasty. Salad was crisp and the dressing options were unique. I'd guess they're made in house. I had the French onion soup. It was served traditionally and that was quite satisfying. Our waitress was so nice and efficient. This place definitely has great service. Very disappointed in both the quality and quantity of food -especially for the price. Seafood bisque was cold. Filet Mignon was ordered medium and came out less than rare. Mashed potatoes were scoops of lumpy brown potatoes. The seafood "fra diavalo" was more like chef Boyardee -orange sauce and no spice. The sausage in the pasta dish with chicken was gray and rubbery. Large party and 2 small loaves of bread for the table. Given a plate of asparagus for the table-not even al dente and left the tough ends on. The restaurant itself -dirty old carpet that had a smell.The ladies room is not handicap accessible-couldn't even get a walker through the door let alone a wheelchair. We will not be back. read more
