Exceptional event venue chock full of historical significance. Built in 1713, this historic manor's front yard once served as a bivouac field for General Washington's Continental Army during the summer of 1780. Earlier, it had seen much activity during the 1751 French and Indian Wars and later, during World War II, it housed temporary billeting for war factory workers. Attended a family wedding here and the ambience was impressive. The food was on the order and magnitude of Michelin guide books. Views and vistas of the river and the manicured grounds were memorable, made doubly so during the splendid explosion of autumn foliage colors! Solid 5 stars. Even the water infiltration into our bathroom caused by a roof leak due to the two days of nonstop rain couldn't detract from the overall experience. We simply asked the front desk for extra towels and partied on (whilst the plumbers were called). I attended a wedding at the Glen Sanders Mansion a bit ago, the venue is gorgeous and the outdoor firepit a very cool place to hang out when the wedding got too weddingly lol. My personal feeling is that they need to step up the food game. During the appetizer hour the shrimp and the meatballs were good, the little (cheese steak?) sandwiches were pretty greasy. At dinner, the salads seemed plated and dressed well beforehand (mostly cores with soggy croutons). My husband and I had the pleasure of getting married at Glen Sanders on 10/13/23. One of the features of this venue that secured our decision, was the convenience factor. We had approximately 210 guests attend and being able to get ready in the bridal suites and man cave, host the ceremony, reception/cocktail hour, afterparty AND accommodate lodging for our bridal parties + families (17 people), made things much more streamlined. In addition, since Mazzone owns the venue, having them cater the food allowed us to "bundle" the costs of food, alcohol and venue. This is a beautiful venue as well. They took measures to make sure their landscaping and outward/inward appearance were perfect, prior to the wedding. Preparations- once we had chosen Glen Sanders as our venue, we had the absolute pleasure of working with Katie R as our sales planner. I can't convey enough how helpful she was throughout the entire process, prior to the wedding. She helped us choose our menu based on a target per head price and customize it as requested, coordinate and organize all details regarding the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, coordinate with some of our vendors, but most importantly answered every question we had with patience, speed and effectiveness. She was incredibly organized and it helped keep track of the million details at play. Day of- In addition Glen Sanders provides an event manager, who helps with the setup of all décor, the rehearsal, coordinating background details for event staff, facilitated progression of bridal party on the day of for pics/introductions/processions/etc. We worked with Leslie P, who has a wealth of knowledge about everything Glen Sanders, having worked there for 20+ years. She was thorough, present, patient, pleasant and helpful, with everything the day prior to and the day of the wedding. Lastly Glen Sanders ALSO provides a day of attendant, we worked with Maki. Maki also has a wealth of knowledge regarding bustling dresses and the inner workings of weddings at Glen Sanders. She served to assist with anything my husband or I needed throughout the day of the wedding. This included bustling my dress as well as fluffing it, holding flowers and my dress during picture changes, getting us food/drinks, and much more. Maki was an absolute sweetheart as well and made things go incredibly smoothly. Food- coming from an enormous Italian family, it was essential that the food was tasty. We had the 3 stations and 3 hand passed bites- all delicious and replenished throughout cocktail hour. People loved the dinners as well as the cake! Lodging- we worked with Jennifer for lodging at GSM and she was incredibly helpful. We made so many changes throughout and she was accommodating throughout! In addition, the rooms were reasonably priced and spacious/beautiful/ very clean. They have an awesome breakfast nook to curb the hangover the following morning . read more

I've been a here a few times for lunches and dinners with my company. It's a high end kind of place that is typically above what I'm willing to spend on dinner but the ambiance, food and service are all excellent. If cost isn't an issue, then this place will not disappoint. The staff has always been outstanding and the food has always been excellent. I've never seen or heard anyone I've been there with complain about either service or food on any of my visits. The decor is upscale yet cozy. I also love the history of the place. Fascinating. I'd recommend giving it a try for that special occasion or anytime you're on someone else's dime. read more

My husband and I had our wedding reception here in November of 2015 and the entire experience was amazing. I think most of the reason is due to the fabulous event planner they have working at this Mazzone property, Maria. She was one of my favorite parts of the entire experience. We met with her several times during the planning process, from our initial meeting picking which package we wanted, to even setting up a meeting with Angelo Mazzone himself. She thought it would be neat to introduce him to my father who is "off the boat" as they say...Angelo was equally as great and they both did everything they could to accommodate our wants and needs. The reception all happened so fast, and I didn't really have time to take it all in on that night, but a few things really stood out to me. The food was incredible, my husband and I got to sample all 4 of our food options...they even provided him with an order of chicken tenders and fries to satisfy his craving. The food during cocktail hour was also delicious, specifically the pork, calamari, gnocchi...ugh I drool thinking about it as do my family members when we talk about it. The presentation, with the sparklers and music while serving dinner, was all impressive. The way the ballroom looked all decorated with items we brought in, as well as uplighting from our DJ, looked amazing. Overall, our reception was beautiful and I wish I could do it all over again. The hotel itself was also great, we utilized the large suite, which was big enough to accommodate our bridal party of about 20 people during cocktail hour. We didn't spend too much time in the room to comment much on anything else. However, the staff did provide us with leftover food and desserts from the wedding itself that we were able to take home and enjoy in the days and weeks following the wedding. The ONLY reason I am not giving a 5 star rating is because I think we should have gotten the room for free being that we spent a large amount of money having our reception there. This is one of the nicest venues in the area. It is perfect for a summer and fall event, big or small. I recently attended an event at Glen Sanders and was please with the service I received. The greeter was very welcoming, and helpful in guiding us to where our event was. Our servers were attentive, and accommodating. While the event I attended took place in one of their smaller rooms, I had the chance to be in their ballroom a few years ago when I attended dance. I remember being impressed which is a big deal; as they say, first impression is everything. Though it was quite a rainy day for the event I attended this Saturday, I was not disappointed. read more

When I have business in Schenectady, I always call the Glen Sanders Mansion to see if they have an available room. It doesn't cost much more than other local hotels, and it's just minutes from the GE plant. I love the old world feel to the place, and I've spent many a night tucked away in the downstairs bar, enjoying the ambiance, the excellent cocktails, and the delicious food. My new favorite menu item is the 7-hour cherry pepper pork. It's sometimes offered as a happy hour appetizer portion at the bar. (Added bonus - the menu notes which items are gluten free. Helpful for folks with food allergies.) Rooms are well appointed, and I had no trouble connecting to the free Wi-Fi. Sure, the carpets may need replacing, but everything is spotlessly clean and the staff is warm and friendly. Parking can be an issue if there's an on site event, so plan accordingly. read more

Came here for a conference which included a breakfast, lunch, and snacks. The venue itself is a great location with a view. The parking lot seemed to overflow with cars for the conference I attended estimating a hundred fifty people. The interior is well decorated and clean, and the historic part of the mansion makes it charming. We made use of a few of their rooms both upstairs and downstairs. The grand ballroom is the largest space and decorated with chandeliers, while multiple projection screens allowed for the conference. The only downfall of the entire conference which lasted 8 hours total was the temperature control. It seemed to be just a bit drafty at first but then we heard the air conditioner turning on and off, and most of us had to put on our outerwear so that we wouldn't turn into icicles. The breakfast was served buffet style (french toast, fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, coffee, and tea). Lunch was delivered straight to the table including a bread basket (with flatbread, crackers, sliced baguettes), a tomato based soup, chicken milanese with orzo, eggplant rollatini with pasta, and lemon - raspberry cheesecake. The bread basket came with a side of simply whipped butter/oil/basil garlic butter which was delicious. The soup was very tomato-ey and rich, an appetizing start for me personally...but sorry, not fit for those with gastric reflux! The chicken milanese was well executed and stayed crispy on the outside and moist inside. The orzo was a tasty combo with the chicken, and reminded me to make it more frequently at home. The eggplant rollatini with pasta unfortunately was a disappointment due to its firm exterior, dry and crumbly interior which indicated possible overcooking. The pasta also suffered from the same fate, dry and bland. The lemon raspberry cheesecake was creamy but I didn't find it to be spectacular. At the end of the day, we were treated to more desserts that were self-serve, including apple cider donuts, parfaits, mini cakes, fruits, and candies. Before departing we also took advantage of the scenic view surrounding the mansion for some creative photography fun! Overall a solid choice for corporate events, weddings, and other functions. I recently just got married and had my reception at the Glen Sanders Mansion and there are not enough words for how happy me ad my guests were. They went above and beyond at ALL times and Always with a smile. Andrew, the head of the reservations is a delight to deal with, every day, all day!! Maria DeMartino, head of weddings, can plan your wedding in ANY fashion you dream of. This is a place where history and elegance meet exceptional service. They are constantly growing, improving and always listen to all of their customers. I can't thank them enough. The rooms are remodeled and they are in the process of remodeling their extended stay apartments. The ambiance is quiet, elegant and quaint. It's encompasses and surpasses all the wonderful aspects I search for in my travels of historic towns. read more

Stayed here for a conference. It's a beautiful venue, but the hotel is not functional. I stayed in room 210 upstairs, and it had a leak in the ceiling when it was raining. When I called the front desk, they put a container to catch the water. I was offered to stay at a sister hotel, but when I found the leak, it was after 9pm. I didn't want to leave that late to change a hotel. So I stayed in another room with my co-worker since all the rooms were booked. She had double beds in her room. Her toilet did not flush, and she stayed in room 105. Both of our rooms had a musty moldy smell to them. During the conference the next day, the ladies room down in that area also had issues. As the day progressed, the toilet water had a brown yellow color to it, and there was a slight odor. The food served at the conference was mediocre. I would not recommend to stay here at all. read more

Late night partying -check Great amazing drinks served by Ryan the bartender in the little underground bar, very fast service and he brought his own iPad in to play football for us because the hotel only had a few stations. The screen door had fallen off our hotel room door, the ceramic tiles were cracked and dirty in the hotel room. The hotel staff gave our room away and put us In a king size bed room when we requested 2 queens. They switched us to the right room the wedding day. The outdoor venue was very nice around the fire. But they could do something about the swampy landscape. Maybe plant some trees to block the alligator alley. Karen and Jeff were great bar tenders at the wedding venue. This place is amazing! I've been to many inns and b&bs but this is one of the best! The riverside view was incredible (see photos)and we had a cloudy day. The breakfast could have been better but it was continental so it was ok. We ate at Denny's for $15 for two which is just 6 mins away. The staff was exceptional. Nancy and Tony from reservations were terrific. They were courteous and helpful. The king bed was comfortable, linen were soft and decor was modern meet home. Parking was conveniently in the front yard. The town of Schenectady was an era ago so it was abit older. Came for a work dinner a few days ago. The hors d'oeuvres were better than previous years with stuffed breads and the fruit was very fresh. The dinner is where I was extremely confused. The house salad came out and the vinaigrette was almost sour in taste. The next issue was the main course. I ordered the chicken Milanese. It was served with a child's size portion of rice pilaf and 2 (yes I'm serious) green beans. The pilaf was cold and flavorless. Not really sure if they ran out of the green beans while making the dishes or what. The chicken was topped with arugula, however it turned to mush on top of a hot piece of chicken. The chicken itself was breaded nicely and tender, just odd plating and need to step up the sides. For dessert, we had cream puffs with chocolate drizzle. Would have been fine if the chocolate drizzle hadn't been Hershey's syrup under the cream puff, giving the bottom a slimy texture. Cream puff was very large in size which was great and the cream inside was delicious. Overall okay meal. read more

Our son's wedding was at GSM. I can't say enough. The hospitality was fantastic. We had the entire Inn booked and they took personal care of us. The rooms are really nice! The Lounge was fantastic, especially Ed! The ceremony was beautiful. We and our guests loved the food and service at both the cocktail hour and reception. The decor was gorgeous. A little more than six months after Mazzone invests $1.5 million dollars into a remodel of the wedding venue (grand stairs, etc) attempting to secure the Inn at Glen Sanders as a premier boutique hotel & venue, it decides to close their only bar/restaurant (The Lounge) at the historic location. I would suggest it will be impossible for the current owners & management to achieve a "premier" hotel, inn or venue without a restaurant open to the public. Unless there are serious changes, we are witnessing the beginning of a serious downturn for Glen Sanders and possibly further evidence of the loss of the Mazzone magic... read more

We had our wedding here and couldn't of asked for a better place. The price was great. Maria is amazing to work with and they provide you with your own waiter the entire wedding who strictly is in charge of you the bride and groom and no one else. Recently attended a holiday party at the Glen Sanders mansion. The food was GROSS. My wifes meal was RAW and no one wanted to help her, my meal was a rubber hockey puck that seemed like it had sat out for days. NO WHERE WORTH whatever the company I attended this meal paid for it. I would not go here.. McDonalds is better 100%. If rich people eat like this. They can keep their food. read more

Stayed here on a Travelzoo promotion. We have recommended to Travelzoo they not endorse this venue in the future. Front desk staff's apathy and lack of interest in guests crossed the line to rude. This occurred not once, but multiple times. Concluding with check-out, when we were denied late check-out, despite our room not being cleaned until hours later. (We were in the building for an event and watched for when housekeeping staff actually went in the room.) I called to put in these observations to the manager and my phone call was never returned. The only reason I'm giving a 2-star instead of 1-star is because the restaurant manager was lovely. He gave us a historical tour and was very kind. Go to the restaurant, not the over priced hotel that doesn't seem to care if you come anyway. read more

Attended a benefit event there March 8. No valet parking; which for a black tie event in the winter one would expect. Cash bar only, where at least there should have been open bar for beer and wine. Food was room temperature. Very good but not hot or warm in the least. Had to keep getting the attention of wait staff to refill water and coffee. Women's restroom was Ice cold as was water from the "hot" tap. Best part about the evening was free coat check. Would not recommend anyone hosting an event here. read more

This is really terribly overpriced. The beds were quite uncomfortable - lumpy old mattress and rock hard pillows. No blackout curtains on the windows, so I woke up with the sunrise bc the think curtains did nothing to mitigate the sunshine. The shower curtain and low lip in the shower did nothing to keep the water inside the shower, flooding the bathroom floor with water. Overall, the whole place is pretty knackered and dirty. read more

I go here for the brunch every couple of months. When they created Tavalo and replaced the American Colonial decor with the green Target/Florida look, the brunch seemed to slide downhill in taste as well. But this past Sunday was an improvement. They still don't have the number and variety of brunch selections they used to have, but it was a very nice brunch. Too bad about the decor. read more

We attended a wedding here and it was the most beautiful venue indoors and outdoors. I have many to many weddings but was most impressed with the wait staff!!! Our waitress Kailyn was warm and welcoming and always made sure we had drinks and our food was ok throughout the wedding. My husband and I stayed here over the holidays in 2011. We were very happy with our stay. The hotel was beautiful and very clean. I was most impressed by the service. We had a slight problem with our reservation and without question we were moved into a beautiful suite at no extra cost. Thank you Glen Sanders for making our stay so wonderful and memorable. Went for a Christmas party. Our room was located close to everything-first floor with double doors that open to the patio/river. Loved that! The king bed was great (although my hubby thought it was too stiff). Big room! Lukewarm shower, toilet didn't flush properly and sink didn't drain. The breakfast that was included was pretty lame and on the gross side. The appetizers to the party were amazing. The bartender didn't skimp on the alcohol. And although the dinner choices were plenty, the food was not that great. We were glad to have filled up on appetizers. Tried every choice and felt the same about each. We had braised beef, chicken Marseille, ziti, salmon, and sides. None were anything to brag about. So...disappointed. read more

My daughter had her wedding at Glen Sander's Mansion in January 2013. The reception was organized beautifully, the attendants were wonderful, Maria was wonderful, the wait staff was very good, and the dining room looked beautiful. However the food was poor quality. The food choices were butternut squash ravioli, chianti braised short ribs, and lemon chicken. My daughter and her now husband attended a food tasting prior to the wedding and selected those choices. Unfortunately, the majority of the guests chose the short ribs and chicken. The short ribs tasted like a poorly made pot roast and the chicken was so dry that it was like leather. Only nine guests chose the ravioli but I did hear that the ravioli was good. The caesar salad was so salty that I could not eat it. Let me assure you that I like salty foods and I add salt to most foods. I also love caesar salad! But it was like someone made a mistake and dumped way too much salt in the dressing. The rehearsal dinner was at the Turf Tavern in Scotia and the food was excellent. I was embarrassed that the food at the wedding that we were giving our daughter, was so poor compared to the food that the groom's family provided the night before. Will never go back there! Angelo Mazzone offered to "make things right" by the following quote: "Please let me know when you can come with the bride and Groom and the wedding party and both sets of parents and have dinner on us. I will prepare the menu and dinner myself and be here to greet you. I also forwarded your note to Maria at the Turf, she was happy to hear that you were so happy with them. Please again accept my apologies, hope to hear from you soon so I can make the arrangements for your dinner, if you would like you can do it on the first anniversary of the wedding. I can also provide a few rooms if people need to come in from out of town." So when we actually decided to take him up on his offer he now was only going to "discount the rooms" (we only wanted two) from $159/night to $119/night. He also said six people could have brunch on him. A far cry from cooking for us, as above. We turned down his offer. Just because a place looks beautiful, doesn't mean the food is good!!!!! read more
