It was our first time at Turn Key and it was wonderful! The host and server were very friendly. The cocktails were slightly out of the ordinary in a very tasty way. Our entrees were cooked to perfection and the grilled carrot side was amazing. Turn Key has all of the best things I remember about growing up with supper clubs in Wisconsin. We didn't finish our carrots, but they were too good to leave behind. Our host checked on how we liked our meals and boxed them and brought back for us. I'm usually not a fan of supper clubs - crowded places with ridiculous waits for overpriced and usually mediocre food, but Turn Key was a gem! Every dish was a delight. The drinks were a unique spin on classic cocktails. Waitstaff was accommodating and friendly even with our large party of 8. Charm, good food, great drinks. I'm a big fan after coming a couple of times and especially after finding out about their cheap date night on thursdays! $60 for a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer, 1 app, 2 entrees, and dessert! It's more than filling and you'll have a great night, amazing conversation, and a full belly. Some of the stand outs for me- - Generally any cocktail; the ones on the menu are unique, but I think they make a fantastic vesper - Relish tray! Pickled veggies, deviled egg dip, chips and homemade ranch, yum! And a Wisconsin staple:) - pork chop: juicy thick cut, with the fat on, pork chop. It has an interesting Side that I couldn't tell if I liked or not but it went very well together! - burger! We all had 'breakfast potatoes' which seemed like prepackaged frozen puffs that were air fried then served cold & tasteless. Question the freshness of other items. Self serve coffee. We were the 1st seated in our area. Minutes later a table of 6 was seated right next to us which included a restless toddler that frequently broke free & ran through the bar & detracted from the ambiance. The table was close enough to spill over onto our table when removing their coats & positioning chairs. We requested the host to move us down 1 table to recover a chance to enjoy a meal. This request was met with scolding & hostility. Later he returned & allowed us to move down 1 table. We were the only 2 tables seated in this area but it seemed to be a huge inconvenience. So I'd give this new addition to the E. Washington corner someplace between and 3-4 star review. Let me say I'm delighted that this majestic building is again back in the game. Good location with great off street parking. This is a huge plus if you aren't in the position to walk in. The hassle of finding street parking at some of the other good restaurants and bars in the area can be a teal turn off. I had the smash burger... it was decent, serviceable and the fries that came with it were certainly better than average. But when it's advertised as their take on a Big Mac, $18 is a wee bit steep. This said the pushing $20 burger seems to be all the rage in terms of Madison bar burgers. For me it was tasty but it wasn't an $18 experience. Curiously when I got the bill the burger was listed as $14 and the Fries $4. So if the fires are a $4 up charge, why not just say so? The craft/designer cocktail list is extensive but didn't appeal to me. They seemed complicated and something you might order once and may or may not enjoy... and it looked as many of the craft cocktails may have been premade... So I went with a Manhattan. You were asked to pick your brand... nice touch. I ordered mine with a Russels Reserve... $17. That's more expensive than an Old Fashioned at the Del-Bar and on par with Michigan Ave... but it's East Washington. A couple of others ordered their Manhattan's with Woodford and their drinks were a couple bucks more expensive. To be sure the Manhattan was well made and I enjoyed it... Just not a $17 plus tip experience. Also curious to me was the bar closed at 11PM on a Friday night... might have had a second drink but nobody asked if I needed something else before last call and one doesn't want to be rushed at $18 a drink. Look it wasn't a bad experience and if I were meeting friends and that's were they wanted to go, I might be up for it. it just wasn't $40-50 experience in my opinion. A few of us stopped here for a quick nightcap before heading home. The menu is presented in a pretty cool way, inside books! Lots of custom cocktails to choose from and they all sounded delicious. The one I chose was so good I had one more. Our bartender was amazing. Someone mentioned it was my birthday and he gave us little cakes an employees mom had made to celebrate. So I spontaneously went to Turn Key Madison with the hubs while we had childcare and what a night! The place was packed on a Thursday at 8 due to some who's who type event, but even so we got a seat at the bar right away. The bartenders were so kind and friendly and gave excellent recommendations. Even though they were clearly swamped, we never felt ignored or rushed. We just came for drinks and dessert so we got the corn pudding pie which was fabulous. I actually licked every last bit from my fork. The drinks we had were amazing too. Mine tasted like the most bougie and elevated grasshopper drink you've ever had. It was dessert in a glass. My husbands had a nice, smooth and smokey mezcal in it. Anyway, can't wait to go back for actual dinner, and when it's not so crowded that we can finally see some of the rooms. I'm ridiculously excited that this place has opened up. Went to have brunch on the second week they were offering it and it was outstanding. Scrambled eggs were scrambled to perfection. Had the pleasure of ringing in 2023 with Turn Key Madison's 5 course prix fixe dinner special on NYE. Service was incredible. Our cups were always filled, and we were offered oysters every few minutes during the appetizer and drink portion. Out of the five courses, the parsnip salad, crab roll, and rib roast were the stars of the show. Shoutout to Nicole, who was an incredible waiter, and made the dinner service amazing. We were really excited for our Friday evening reservations at a true Wisconsin "supper club." Even with the rain, we were fired up to kick off the first night of our anniversary weekend with Turn Key. I was really surprised to find that this IS NOT a traditional supper club, if that's what you are looking for (check out Nook if you're looking for something like that). I won't get into the granular details of what my interpretation of a supper club is, but this wasn't it to me. Not a problem at all, really, but I figured someone out there over 40 would like to know. Now, the menu itself is filled with very midwestern homey and comfortable food. Steaks, chops, fish fry and great drinks. I opted for the fried cod and fries and it was some of the best fish fry I have ever had. I loved my mule, too. Food was EXCELLENT. Service staff was fantastic (I'm pointing to you, Molly). Atmosphere was wonderful. But holy hell, turn down the A/C a touch. Kim's lips were blue before the dessert menu hit the table. All-in-all, we were thoroughly happy with our evening at the Turn Key. I would drop the supper club moniker, but otherwise, you guys rock! read more

We went here on a Friday night and sat at the bar because it looked like a fun spot to be! The service was quick and attentive. It has a nice atmosphere in the evening with the dimmed lighting and classy look of the wooden bar. The restaurant has classic wisconsin foods (their take on cheese curds, relish tray, etc.) and a little on the pricier/upscale end. We were going to go to our usual favorite fish fry place, but I talked my husband into Turn Key because I previously loved their expansive menu and I was really not in the mood for fish. My first disappointment was seeing how scaled back their new menu has become. I almost told my husband after seeing the menu, let's just get appetizers, a drink and then move on. I wish I had. We got the date and balsamic appetizer, and that was really good, but I did not want fish for dinner! There weren't many options for me, so I ordered the fish fry, which was tonight's special. It came with two deep fried haddock fillets. One fillet tasted just OK (the coating on it was pretty heavy-handed) and the other fillet was very fishy tasting and inedible. I couldn't even stand smelling it on my plate. (We brought it home for our dog..) The dinner also came with a biscuit, which we both also did not like. It was over baked and really dry. I did like their spin on coleslaw... It had a warm spice (like cloves or nutmeg?) in it and it made it very interesting. My husband told me he was not impressed with my (good) fish. He ordered the Italian beef sandwich and said it was just OK. The best part of the meal was their fries. They are super crispy and they come with a garlic aïoli. We had to ask for the aïoli because they forgot to bring it with the meal. We won't be back, or at least not for a long while! Super super disappointed! I did tell the server about the fish and told him he did not have to bring anything else out because I would take it home to my dog. However, if I owned this business, I would've offered a gift certificate or I would've comped the fish or something? I REALLY hate giving poor reviews, but I am an excellent cook and baker and we would have done much better staying at home tonight. (Ravioli and gnocchi were options on the menu, but those are regular dinners for us in our family, and I typically don't order Italian food as that is our family's "normal".) 4.5 stars. Fun and lively vibe. Great attentive wait staff. Interesting menu with delicious and unique flavors. Two minor issues - the prices are high ($6 for a small soda, $21 for a bowl of gnocchi) and it was quite crowded the evening we went, but we didn't make reservations so mostly that's on us. read more

This place was just not "it". We have been to several other supper clubs in Madison, but this was lackluster. We came for a special meal on the Fourth of July-- there was nothing festive or fun about the ambiance, and they sat everyone in the bar area only. They were out of the sirloin (ironically the cheapest cut of meat...), so our guests couldn't order what they wanted. The soda comes in cans with no refills (unusual for Wisconsin). The relish tray was bizarre-- no pickles or anything traditional, and on the tray was actually a cold, wet squash cut up. It was weird. The salads that accompany meals are straight out of a bag, with nothing added or special. Our bill was $346 and nobody at our table ordered alcohol. The only good thing was the meat, but our guest's side dish (mashed potatoes with gravy) was even missing the gravy. We will not be returning, and we regret taking our guests there on the holiday. The other awkward thing was the way the bill was to be paid. Like many "cheap" chain restaurants, the waitress stood there with a card machine at the table while we paid with our card and determined the tip. Not classy, and puts you on the spot. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff. The food came out relatively quick. The fish fry was a little disappointing- it was a little soggy and the fish tasted more fishy than other places around town. The cheese curds are really good and the house made ranch dressing pairs wonderfully with them. The trout has better tadte than the fish fry but I was disappointed they had so much butter on the fish that it had pooled and some had resolidified on the plate that I drained my fish of as much as possible onto my side plate. The seasonal veggies were good (hint: they may say asparagus on the menu but they will serve whatever is fresh in season so ask your server). The 5 stars goes to the bar and the server- great drinks and service. I would rate the food a 3 & 4-- 3 for the fish, 4 for the curds. The interior of the restaurant has high ceilings which takes it away from the normal supper club-y feel and more in the craft brewery category. read more

Amazing food. We did not have a dish we did not love. Smash burger was simply the best burger I have had in Madison. Smashed potatoes were also a unique favorite. Food was reminiscent of a Wisconsin supper club, but a bit upscale. Portions are in the larger side. Service was fast, casual, friendly, and attentive. My friends and I gathered here for dinner and drinks for a birthday celebration. They have ample amount of parking which is a huge plus considering the location. We were immediately seated outside on the patio. The patio is very spacious! We ordered drinks. I had a glass of wine and my friends all had cocktails. They raved about how delicious and refreshing they were. I ordered the pork chop. It was beautifully presented and I was so excited to dig in. I honestly was not very impressed. It was unseasoned and did not have much flavor and very disappointing. I only ate a few bites and didn't even care to bring it home for leftovers. My friends had the pork chop and the fish and all agreed the dishes were lacking flavor. When I went to the restroom I asked the wait staff to surprise my friend with a dessert for her birthday and to put it on my tab. I'm not sure if the message wasn't relayed or what but that surprise didn't happen. Overall had really high hopes for this place but very unlikely I will be back. read more

Killing it! Welcome to the East Side! I absolutely love this spot and so was sad when the last restaurant did not make it in this spot but I am beyond thrilled for Turn Key to be here now! Turn Key has created a great vibe in Madison that is unlike anything else in Madison. They did a really good job of allowing this building to shine. I expected a great time at Turn Key and I was not let down. The bartenders are first class and very friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks are whimsical and tasty. You won't find your standard cocktails on this menu (although you can definitely order what you prefer). I recommend when you come to Turn Key to allow the team to create a new experience for you. The Madison food/nightlife scene is really in the up and up for those folks more mature than the State Street scene and I'm loving every moment of it. Do yourself a favor and visit Turn Key for a truly unique and epic time. Business is really starting to pick up so recommend reservations although I was able to find a couple seats at the bar which is a great area as well! read more

We had a reservation for a nice dinner on a Thursday night to celebrate an occassion. The restaurant was not overly busy and we were seated. Shortly thereafter a few couples came in with ALL their kids who occupied an entire booth next to us. Our server was SO gracious and offered to move us to the back of the restaurant where we were able to dine in peace. Appetizers of carrots and the cauliflower were both amazing. The pork loin entree was amazing. The steak was not bad, but a little more rare than I like - not enough to send back, but in the future I would probably order medium instead of medium rare. The real standout here was the service. Our server was AMAZING - I wish I could remember her name but she only waits tables part time and I think she said she is primarily a teacher. She's one of the best in the business though and made the night quite memorable! read more

Visited for dinner and drinks before a Breese Stevens show. Surprisingly not too crowded but we arrived not intending to see the opening act. An excellent location, good parking, restored old building and nice ambiance. Food is small plates style, was very good but our items barely enough for 2 to share. I enjoyed the Smash Burger's vegetarian substitute Prit' Near Patty. Drinks were both good and questionable. Small but high quality Bourbon and Tequila selections, and knowledgeable bartender, but appears an Arnold Palmer was a challenge when ordered at the table. Excellent bar service, but then average table service. We understand they are fairly new, for now we can say we tried it. read more

We got the gnocchi and the whitefish entrees, and started with curd puppies. The curd puppies are the same as what you get at Settle Down Tavern, a different take on cheese curds. The gnocchi was good, but didn't blow us away and was pretty small. The whitefish entree was the most disappointing thing we got, it was on a small plate that was the same size as what you'd get for the green beans, and I thought I was missing something... it was just a thin piece of fish on a bed of red peppers. It was cooked well, but it was very small/really not filling, especially for $24. Some kind of starch along with it or even a salad would've gone a long way to make it feel a bit more complete. Our friend also got the steak for $29 and was happy with the taste but had similar feelings about the amount of food. First! The restaurant is broken into two sections, "leisure" and "dining fine". We opted for leisure. The space has games you can play including shuffleboard. The menu for cocktails is the same on both sides. The "leisure" food menu has about 8 items. We had the relish tray, the Wisco , a stripped down version of the burger (thanks to a 5 yo palette) and the crunchy salad. The hands down winner was the salad that included perfectly fried chicken and a maple chili vinaigrette. The Wisco was a miss. Hubby said it was too citrusy and way too much bread to fish. With the red lights and ambient music, Turn Key definitely turned up! I could see how the place would be good for a summer dinner with the patio. The inside is very cute too. My party sat in the back and we had ample space. I ordered the Beet Salad, Charred Carrots, Cheese Puppies, and Beef Tartare (4.5/5). The scallion aioli was so refreshing with the Beef Tartare. For my entree, I got the Rainbow Trout (3/5). The trout itself was perfectly crispy but the butter at the bottom knocks down a point for me. Although the entrees are interesting, I do think that the restaurant could have a wider selection for those with dietary restrictions. There are no chicken dishes except for the Tuesday night fried chicken sandwich special. Unfortunately, the restaurant ran out of chicken during our night, which was disappointing for those who had no other options. However, the desserts were absolutely heavenly and agreed upon as the star of the meal. We got the apple cake, pans cotta, and the sweet potato pie. The apple cake was my favorite. The panna cotta was delightfully refreshing and the sweet potato pie tasted like home! Service was a 10/10. Everything came out on time and we had no troubles ordering anything. read more

We went here for a birthday and wanted to be near the Shuffleboard area. The menus are in-folded in books! Which is fun especially since I went with my book club. I enjoyed the fish roll which is quite decadent. A buttery brioche roll filled with seafood. Fries and cheese curds also a delight. The drinks are fun & the service is amazing. They were on point & did a couple small birthday compliments which is always appreciated. The Shuffleboard is also super fun! I've never done full size shuffleboard, and I felt like an elderly in Florida! Will be back to try more drinks! read more
