I've now visited Trade House on three separate occasions including New Year's Eve, and every experience has been exceptional. I have nothing but glowing praise to share. The Christmas décor was absolutely stunning - festive, elegant, and thoughtfully curated down to the smallest detail. The menu is creative and distinctive, offering bold, flavorful dishes that feel both innovative and incredibly satisfying. You HAVE to try the mussels!! Really enjoyed! Started with their crimson 75 gin cocktail. Delicious and not too sweet. French onion dip was also delicious and a bit lighter than other places, which was nice. Vegetarian tagliatelle bolognese with eggplant and mushrooms was outstanding. Pasta was cooked a perfect al dente, better than most Italian restaurants. And there are several other vegetarian options available too. Service was helpful, friendly, and fast. Salem has a ton of great restaurants. Unfortunately Trade House isn't one of them. Sure, the setting is nice, with a pretty nice looking interior, and outside seating in the historic area about a block from the ocean. And you really can't blame them for the absolutely herculean task of finding a place to park, nor the long walk you have to take from downtown Salem just to get there. I'd be willing to overlook all that, but having eaten there before (and had a great time) after last Friday night's experience, I won't be going back. Reservations for five people at 6:45 were secured and the table was ready and waiting. Good start. The server was fantastic, friendly and prompt to help with our drink order. The menu is pretty standard fare; nothing that jumped out at any of us screamed: "try me!". Selections were made and then the wait began. Wait. Wait. Wait. When all our food arrived, half of each plate was cold. Cold pasta, cold fries and cold fried chicken sandwich. Trade House is part of a three or four restaurant group, from what I understand, so they're not new to this. In fact, I believe they own the place (Mercy Tavern) right across the street. Came here for lunch today. The staff is amazing and def know what they're doing! We started with the pork belly special appetizer. Melt in your mouth goodness and great flavors. With the staffs help and managers coin flip I settled on the vegetable korma as my main. Intense and complex flavors melded in my mouth. Too much for one lunch so yay me lunch for tomorrow. Hubs had the steak frites. Med rare. Perfectly seared The au ju was delicious! What was supposed to be quick lunched ended up being few hours of meeting new peeps and having a blast. Trade House has opened on Derby Street in Salem, formerly Witch's Brew Café. This bar and restaurant offers a casual drinking and dining experience with the atmosphere of a neighborhood New England style pub. The layout of the place has the pub/lounge area with a full service bar with seating & TVs opposite high top table seating. The separated dining room to the right side has table seating & a corner fireplace and the back area of the place has a couple tables (employee area). The food menu offers a selection of starters, salads, sandwiches, burgers, main entrees, and desserts, at moderate prices. A kids menu is also offered. IThe bar serves 12 draft beers, beer cans/bottles, wine, and cocktails. After a drive on a foggy evening, I stopped in at Trade House for some late evening food and to catch the Celtics game on TV. I took a seat at a high top table next to the bar. The server came over in a couple minutes after I settled in. I requested an ice water and immediately placed my food order. For a starter, Fried Calamari ($16 plus tax) served in a bowl had flash fried calamari rings & tentacles with a light coating, very tender to eat with lemon wedge for zest and a pomodoro sauce for dipping. For dinner, the Southern Fried ($17 plus tax) was stacked with lettuce, tomato, red onions, thick crunchy fried buttermilk chicken, pimento & pickle chips on a toasted bun. The side of thinner cut golden fries was salted and firm, ketchup cup on the side. I very much enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich with the crisp fries. After I was done, the server dropped off the check, which was $35.31 with tax and before tip. Overall, a great tasting fried meal in a noisy pub, NBA finals on TV, and adequate service. read more

Really cute neighborhood corner bar. Friendly prompt service. Chowder had lots of clam and nice surprise of great bacon on top. Ribs were fall off the bone good. Garlics fries for this garlic lover are what dreams are made of! Fish tacos were huge, and so good. Finding bits of bacon in the taco was a pleasant surprise. Taking it up a notch! read more

Not sure if they were having an off night. We won't go back and we live right around the corner so that kind of stinks. Service was bad and that was coupled with bad food. I got a burger and no one ever asked or came back out ( we were outside) after our food was delivered (which was the same time as the appetizer btw). My medium rare burger was burnt and not edible and if someone had checked on us I would have sent it back but by the time anyone came out it was bill time and my husband had finished eating. He had salmon which was just ok. Even at the end of the meal no one asked us how the food was. Super disappointing way to spent 1.5 hours and $85 (ok salmon, bad burger and so so fried clams no drinks). read more

Stopped in on a cold rainy spring day. We were welcomed right away by a few of the men who run the place. We set up at the bar and had fabulous service from our bartender. My husband got an all day IPA and I tried out one of the delicious cocktails. The special today was a rigatoni that had filet mignon and short rib in it. The best way to describe it is stupid good. I got the filet mignon with frites, which was also amazing. The the wine selection is very good. All in all the ambience was welcoming casual with great food and good people. We are definitely fans of Trade House. It's a welcome addition to Salem's many fine restaurants. That said, we tried the fried clams and ... they should have and could have been far better than they were. They were over cooked and way too much of the little crispy bits from the fryer. At 375 degrees drop them for 90 seconds! No more! Around here clams need to be done right! The $29 price tag for an appetizer enhanced our disappointment. On a previous visit my wifes haddock pie was essentially empty. We want Trade House to succeed and we will be back. Maybe a little more attention to quality. Please read more

i'm writing this on a full stomach because after tasting the coconut curry mussels i could not leave this place without trying half of the menu. everything from the street corn to the steamed buns were better than i've had anywhere. i wish salem was closer to home but i would happily drive back in a blizzard to try the rest of the menu. well done! you can tell there is love in that kitchen! read more
