The cold lobster roll is in my top 3 favorite lobster rolls and I eat a lot of them! The toasted brioche is really nice and the lobster portion is generous and filled with fresh, large, & tender claw meat. Very light on the mayo which I love. Tried the steamers for the first time today and they were some of the best steamers I've had. The broth is quite lovely. The view of course is very picturesque with the Friendship of Salem ship right across the way. Also adding a photo of the truffle parm salad & clam pizza from a previous trip. WOW the seafood was fresh and delicious! Excellent oysters and giant shrimp, and I highly recommend the lobster taquitos!! They are large enough to split. It was a little noisy downstairs with not much to look at. Definitely recommend upstairs with a view of the harbor. They seemed understaffed this friday night- we were served by the bartender who made me some excellent dirty gin martinis. Check out the rest of the drink menu for fun! I went here with some friends for dinner. We made a reservation on open table and had no issues upon arrival. It's a two level restaurant with inside and outside dining. I think most if not all outside spots are shaded. The staff on both levels were nice and efficient. I had raw oyster and clam chowder soup. One friend had a shrimp and watermelon salad the other had chicken sandwich. The shrimp were huge and quite a few on the salad. My friend's sandwich was quite big too and she said it was good. The oysters were very tasty and free of sand and shells. The bowl of clam chowder was huge. It was pretty thick and could have use more seasoning but overall it was a good dining experience. read more

The food is always incredible! This time I did not enjoy my meal. This place has a broken air conditioner and still expects people to pay full price for a meal and sweat. 102 outside about 95 inside. If I wanted to be overheated while eating I would have requested an outdoor dining experience. Not a hotbox eating expensive meal with the heat on inside. Place is great. Manager said that the A/C is broken and that they don't know when it will be repaired. The owner knows. If the owner get someone down to his restaurant and have it fixed ASAP. The view to the water off the top deck is truly something that should be leading the way. The available oyster varietys give you some options, we prefered the maine versions, the cocktail sauce was fine, the mignette sauce was very good. Ordered the shrimp cocktail ($4.50 for very very very large shrimp, but it is per piece not indicated on the menu). Also had the tacos. The taco of the day (halibut) had a bit too much wet things on it for the corn tortillas and the structural integrity suffered as a result. The restaurant has two levels, we were quickly seated upstairs during their lunch rush. We're big fans of local brews and oysters - which Sea Level delivers on. We had 3 different types of oysters - all of which were excellent. We split an order of fried calamari, drunken sailor clams and fish tacos. The fried calamari had cherry peppers, so beware of a kick, the drunken sailor clams is an absolute must, and the fish tacos were solid but a bit on the dry side. All of our food was great, our waitress was attentive and we had beautiful views of the harbor. If we're ever back in the Salem area, we've both agreed Sea Level will be our first stop. read more

Service was fantastic. A storm Was quickly approaching and servers and customers all worked together to pull down the plastic side walls for the outdoor deck. The view from the deck is peaceful and creates a nice nautical setting to the great food and drink! I liked my spicy mocktail and when I asked if the seared scallops dish could be put on top of pasta, the server and kitchen created a completely new fish for me not on the menu. Last September, my girlfriends and I visited Salem for a witchy adventure. We decided to go with the flow and pick the first restaurant we saw as we explored the area. Fortunately, luck was on our side because we ended up loving our lunch! The Scary Mary was showstopper in the best way possible if you're looking for a fun photo-op, loaded with seafood, bacon, and steak pieces. Monday afternoon in Salem, we got hungry for a quick bite and decided on seafood. This place was recommended to us by a local. The ambience is rustic seafood restaurant with a great view of a small harbor and the homes on hills in the distance. Very cozy. We were one of only a handful of customers. But it was in February and much of the landscape was covered in snow. So... I ordered a cup of clam chowder which actually came in a nice size mini pot. It was one of the best I've had on my trip to MA. My buddies had the oyster poboy which was really good and a meatball pizza which was super yum. I had the Scary Mary which is some insane Bloody Mary that comes with an oyster, lobster, steak, bacon, olives, peppers, and shrimp. The cold seafood was good and filled me up perfectly for lunch. The actual Bloody Mary itself though wasn't as great as I thought it would be. My husband got the calamari which came with banana peppers, we felt there were more peppers in the app than calamari. We came back for dinner and we had oysters, popcorn shrimp, steamers, I had the lobster dinner and my husband got the steak tips. The popcorn shrimp was excellent and came over a bed of actual popcorn which was cute. The oysters were very fresh and enjoyable. The steamers and Lobster were just okay, I have definitely had better at other restaurants. My husband also thought the steak tips could have been better and they slightly overcooked them. For desert we decided to share the fried Oreos and they were definitely one of the worst I have had, it was just straight dough inside like it wasn't fully cooked. The seafood was incredibly fresh and the portions were big, making it well worth the price. We tried a few appetizers: the popcorn shrimp, chowder fries, and feta dip, and all of them were delicious. The popcorn shrimp ($18) were fried and came with old bay seasoned popcorn and lemon butter aioli for dipping. The popcorn was a good touch and we kept going back to it, even though the shrimp is the star of the plate. The warm feta dip ($15) was topped with olives and oil and served with bread. It was salty, creamy, and a good bite. The chowder fries ($18) are our don't miss option. It's seasoned fries topped with clam chowder, steamed littleneck clams, and cheddar cheese. It's a little bit of everything- cheesy, creamy, crunchy, chewy and carb-y all at once. For mains, I got the baked seafood pie (market price- I paid $37.80) , which was downright addictive with huge chunks of seafood in every bite. It's shrimp, mussels, lobster, mashed potatoes, vegetables and sherry cream topped with Ritz crackers. It was luscious and hearty and perfect for a cold night (and I had plenty for leftovers). My partner ordered the sesame salmon ($27) and loved it; the wasabi crema added the perfect touch of heat. It's been a couple of years since I ate here, but I'm here to update my old review. Overall, I think the service has gotten way better since the last time I came here. They're outdoor deck area now has screens which is a big improvement from what it was before. Keeps a nice comfortable bug free atmosphere while enjoying the sites of the ocean. Very good selection of drinks and appetizers. The shrimp here is excellent and so are the fries very crispy with that old bay seasoning. This place has the best bread in Salem hands-down as well. When in Salem, MA you have to find seafood. Sea Level Oyster Bar has just that! We were touristing around Salem and decided to pop in for lunch. We started with a Diet Coke and Apple Cider Donut Cider. That cider was unbelievable. It was delicious. We then moved onto to Chowder Fries and those were very tasty. Needed a bit of Tabasco but it was delicious regardless. Based on our waiters recommendation we did just the Fisherman's Platter for lunch as he mentioned it was "shareable." So we did that and he was right! It was a ton of tasty fried food. Normally we aren't fried food folks but this hit the spot. We will return to try other non-fried options. Everything we saw leave the kitchen looked great! The views throughout the restaurant are spectacular. You get a great view of the National Historic Site while eating your food. I went to Sea Level on the 4th of July with two friends. I shared a fried seafood plate and it was delightful. But moreover, one of my friends had stomach issues and the chef went above and beyond to make sure her food was exactly how she needed it. Our server was attentive, kind and understanding. The manager even came out to make sure we were all doing okay. He gave my friend a few tea bags to calm her stomach and was also very kind. The staff did wonderfully on a busy holiday.
