My father had received a quote for replacing a bay window from another company in town that he had hired before. That other company looked to take advantage of that and quoted my father a price of $10,000 to replace it. I got involved and looked for other options and was truly fortunate to find J&D Windows and Doors. First off, the price was a FRACTION of what the first company quoted, but more than that David really took in a genuine interest in discussing all the options with my father so that my father was comfortable knowing he was getting exactly what he wanted. The other company took a more cookie cutter approach and was more interested in seeing dollar signs than customer satisfaction.. Due to Covid, supply was interrupted so the new window couldn't be installed when initially scheduled. That had nothing to do with J&D but David still gave my father a discount due to the inconvenience. Completely unnecessary but most appreciated and just a classy move on his part. All told, the work to take out the old bay and put in the new took little more than a morning with a little finishing to be done the next day. I recently purchased a used glass display cabinet off of Craigslist. It had warped, dirty and…read moredisgusting plywood shelves. As part of the rehabilitation of the case I purchased new glass shelves from this company. They were very friendly to work with over the phone, and when I arrived in person they were even more helpful. The purpose of my display case is to store model trains, and they had a staff member who was familiar with this hobby so we chatted about that for a while. The two glass shelves were quoted a reasonable price, and they were ready to pick up within a day or two. When I got them home, however, the didn't fit. I had ordered them based on the dimensions of the warped plywood, and they were about 1/16" too long. After talking with them on the phone about it, they offered to cut them shorter (and didn't even charge me despite me offering to pay them for this additional work). Again, they were done within a day or two. The only downside that I can think of is their hours: M-F from 8-4:30. That is fine if you work or live near there, but I had to go on my lunch breaks and that was a bit of a hassle. They are surrounded by chain link fences and gates so easy after-hours drop offs or pick-ups aren't an option.

I can't share how excited I am about the new windows. I didn't fully understand the contract in the…read morebeginning, specifically that "painting or preparation for painting " is not included. What this means is that after they put the window in, there might be some small gaps or damage to Sheetrock, where it's not quite ready to be painted without some Sheetrock mud and sanding. After I reread the contract, and fully processed it, I was ready to move on. There were a few minor issues such as the wrong screens coming in, a window that broke during transit, and the wrong roller, but we were able to come up with a solution for everything. It's not a high profit operation, so they don't just throw cash at you such as some larger companies, when there's a mistake, but each solution was fair to all involved. The reason I went with Window King is because they're the only authorized distributor of Okna products in our area, and those were the only slider windows where both sashes move and pop out. This makes it easy to replace the sash if something breaks, and it also allows for easy cleaning of my second story windows. I am truly amazed by the color accuracy, light transmission, and lack of heat transmission of these windows. In the past, there would be a warm spot on the carpet where the sun spot hit. Now, the sun spot is the same temperature as the surrounding area. According to the stickers, there's almost have the light coming in, but they are so much easier to clean, that the amount of light actually feels higher than the awning windows I replaced. They are easy to operate, look great, and come with a lifetime warranty. The pricing is extremely reasonable for what you get. The installers did a great job, and were a pleasure to work with.

It was so frustrating to call so many businesses only to run into dead ends because my order was too small. Then, on a whim I called Dave's Glass. The woman who answered the phone was so kind. She said she could help. And she did. She took my order. She made suggestions. The glass edges would be polished. No sharp edges. I was so relieved that I honestly started to tear up. When I picked up the order a few days later, the total for 6 custom cut glass shelves came to just under $100. The store is a friendly place with a large yellow lab serving as official greeter. They did a great job. The cabinet shelves look wonderful. I wish I'd called Dave's first. I'll make sure to reach out again. The cabinet will be needing mirrored doors.

The company insists that customers provide their own measurements, likely to shift liability. I felt like I was 15 being told off by some exhausted teacher just because I asked if he'd want to come and have a look at my project and give an estimate...Which I think is a normal thing to ask. He did give me a barrage of "free advice" which was mostly stuff I knew already and told me I'd definitely need a permit for my project. I just checked my city's websites and I don't need a permit for my project which is what I'd previously been told. There's so many contractors in our area I'm going to hire someone that not only does quality work but also I can have a polite 5 minute phone conversation with.
