My experience was far from good... would even say it was a cluster f*ck. I live in Suffolk. I went to the Suffolk location. There weren't any hours posted, lights were off, store looked fine but they were closed during regular hours. This location is close to me, so I swung by a second time. Again, no signage and closed. The third time I headed that way I called and was told that location was closed but she was at the Elm Ave locaiton and I could go there in Portsmouth. I told her there is no signage and they might want to post something... dead silence... weird and rude but Ok, your business you handle it the way you want. I live in Suffolk and had business in Churchland. I stopped at Lady Locksmith on Western Branch Blvd. A very nice lady said they were not able to re-key this cylinder but Tweeds could and they are located on Elm. Ok. I went to Tweeds on Elm I dropped off two lock cylinders to be re-keyed. Each had a different C code I want to use for vehicle door locks and I had a third C code ignition key. The girl wrote down a very detailed note on my request ... two lock cylinders to be re-keyed. I told her to keep it simple, I don't want three different keys and would like 1 key. It would be wonderful to get everything keyed to the ignition key. But Keep it simple and would gladly settle for just re-keying the 2 cylinders to 1 key and an ignition key. I just didn't want 3 keys. I was told it would be done the next day. Which I thought was extremely fast. She wrote down my phone number on the note. I left them there for 2 weeks and did not get a call. When I went to get them the guy helping me could only find 1 cylinder. He searched and search through a counter full of pieces, parts, plastic baggies and pieces of paper glamour. It was a cluster. He looked and looked and looked, when two more customers came in he asked me if I could come back tomorrow. Having visited a locksmith 4 times now, traveling from Suffolk twice, and the fact that he couldn't locate my stuff. I insisted on waiting for him to find my pieces. I had checked the time when I got to the store and when I got back to my vehicle. It was 38 mins just to find my pieces and send me away with nothing accomplished. Not even a sorry for your trouble... So that's my experience. From the look of the rating this may not be the norm but this was truly my experience. read more

This is a locally owned locksmith and key service. They sell safes, duplicate keys and sell locks. I was able to get a blade cut for an older model car and a replacement skeleton key for a door in my very vintage home. Bought a high-end safe for my home. Selection breadth wasn't fantastic, but the quality and service level were both topnotch -- and I did find something that exactly matched my needs, so I guess the selection was sufficient, eh? To give a specific example, getting my old safe removed and the new one installed were challenges, as I have a two-story house and the spot for the safe is on the 2nd floor. These things are *heavy* (the new one was 720 lb, empty). Someone had to be brought in with special equipment to do the moving safely, and Tweed's both knew about who could do it and brought them in. The move out and the move in both were accomplished safely and with no damage to anything. I cannot speak to value one way or another, as I've only bought one other safe of this type -- and that was two decades ago. Prices have skyrocketed in that area across the board; I really can't compare. In any case, highly recommended. read more

It's a small shop which I like and both times I've been there I've been greeted with a warm friendly welcome and an eagerness to assist. First time I went in last week to have keys made. I was so tired of my keys being cut at large stores that I had to always take back because they didn't work. my keys were cut by a friendly young man , took them home and they worked perfectly. Today after much searching I went to Tweed's looking for a double sided lock with keys for both sides( not sure correct name for it) . Once again greeted with a friendly welcome by three associates and asked how they could assist me. Told them what I needed after a few minutes I had what I needed for 1/3 of what Amazon and big store wanted to charge. I would also like to mention their restroom and shop is SPOTLESS! Going to Tweeds Locksmith was a great decision. They've been in business for decades. I didn't know about them but I went to one of the popular big box hardware stores with 2 keys that needed to be copied. Both keys had color coded (stiff) cap covers that the big box store couldn't remove to copy in the machine. They also wanted $6 plus tax for 2 keys. A worker who overheard my dilemma there told me about Tweed's so I headed into Portsmouth. A very nice and helpful gentleman named Michael helped me. He copied both keys easily without touching the caps. Cost me about $4 with tax. If there are any issues, the business stamp on the back of the keys is your guarantee they'll fix it for free. Such a clean store with a welcoming vibe. Had a very positive experience there. Couldn't find them on Yelp so added them myself. They deserve business! read more

I took a Schlage electronic deadbolt lock they installed on a new house back to them this morning. The deadbolt was malfunctioning. Drop off the lock first thing in the morning. The tech (Brian) said the deadbolt has a life time warranty but he was sure it could be fixed. Picked up the deadbolt lock this afternoon. The tech assured me the lock was working fine. Got it home and no go. No power. Changed batteries twice and still no power. Looked at the wiring harness and there is a loose wire connection in the wire harness. The tech lied. Called Schlage and they said buy a new deadbolt at the retailer of my choice and they will refund the cost. Schlage stands behind their warranty. Stay away from Tweeds. read more
