I love the decor, reminding me of frontier American history, like a classy upscale saloon type vibe, which is very different then most places. What a unique establishment with lots of history! There were so many interesting local artifacts on the walls that were as rich as their offerings on the menu. We came for lunch one day, after many years of driving past Tweeds. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive wait staff and excellent food! Not many food offerings for the non-red-meat eater, but to be expected here. (There are some seafood, chicken, and duck offerings.) The lighting was very dim even in the afternoon, but I was delighted by the light-up menus when you open them! My favorite were the grilled bison kebabs, which were cooked to perfection and just the right texture and juiciness! For my fourth time, I visited Tweeds Restaurant & Buffalo Bar. I don't know what happened to this place but my God, what a shame. The theme here is steak and prices are above the norm and the quality was horrific. We started out with appetizers which were totally fine. Onion soup was to die for and the crab meat dip was terrific. However, the night went south after ordering New York Strips and Prime Rib and being served nothing but poor tasting nervy fatty, poor quality meat at $46 and $50 dollars. If you can charge these prices you better serve happiness and Tweeds fell far from this goal. The atmosphere of this spot is nostalgic and killer. A warm cozy spot which just feels right. The service at the bar on 4/25/26 at about 4 pm at the bar was terrible the bar tender was inattentive constantly speaking to one couple at the bar. The bar had about 6 people, She said she only works weekends. We could not get her attention to even get the check. We had 2 appetizers totalling 44 dollars and 4 martinis . The total was $157 . We should have questioned the bill but didn't We usually tip very well this is the first time we did not tip. The food was good the service was horrible. This is a review of a Sunday dinner in early September. The restaurant is located in the heart of Riverhead, a nice walk from the Hyatt. We had no trouble getting a reservation, the restaurant was about 2/3 full on arrival. The decor is old school atmospheric, reflecting the buffalo theme. Service was a bit erratic, the server brought my cocktail to the table next to ours, which had the benefit of leading to a conversation with the couple occupying it. We shared a starter of bacon wrapped scallops, which were appropriately crisp and tasty. I enjoyed a bison rib steak, which was accompanied by mashed potatoes and broccoli, although I have to say a prime steer steak is going to provide a more luxurious, albeit unhealthy, experience. La Portena's entree was, if memory serves shrimp scampi, accompanied by wild rice and veggies. This pleased. I might have given only four stars, but the true highlight of the evening was the piano player/vocalist. Classic American songbook, delivered with verve. No music charge. Had a nice conversation with him after the set. So much better than the lousy sound systems most restaurants seem to have these days. I would return for dinner, or a drink at the bar. read more

I had seen a special on News 12 about Tweed's and I wanted to visit Tweed's to see what it was about. We went there for lunch. We ordered the bison burger with American cheese. The lunch came with large potato wedges. The food portions were just right. Enough to fill you but not overstuff you. The wedges were really tasty and crisp. The burger was cooked well but the extra charge of $3 for a slice of cheese for each burger is pretty steep, definitely not worth $3. Skip the cheese. Personally, I am not sure if you gave me a bison burger or regular beef burger if I could taste the difference. The atmosphere is interesting. Lots of historical pictures and articles and of course the bison head. Unfortunately many of the items are mounted behind the tables, so it's awkward to look over people while they are eating to see the items. Overall it's a nice place to try out and good food. We had an early 6p reservation on a Friday and were the only people there initially. By the time we were leaving it was packed with happy groups filling the tables and the bar seats were full. Our servers were lovely and quick. A man next to the bar was playing lovely music on the piano and singing. I ordered the prime rib - make sure to talk to the server about it first! It's sliced then grilled, which I liked a lot, but know that's not the typical serving for prime rib. The potatoes were amazing! My partner got the bison filet and loved it. While I thought the veggies were a little under cooked - he thought they were perfect. He enjoyed a nice bourbon on the rocks with one big fat cube, which he loves. The only disappointment was the brownie a la mode for dessert. It was very clearly store bought and just not very good. Maybe I'd try a different dessert in the future, but would prefer something made in house. All around great spot in Riverhead and will definitely be returning. We have been going to Tweeds for years so I don't know why I haven't reviewed it until now. I've had the bison filet, hanger steak, short ribs and burger and after having the bison burger today I have to say that it is my favorite item on the menu. It's consistently great! Tender with no gristle, cooked perfectly on a very good brioche bun. It actually doesn't need anything on it but I get it with American cheese, pickles, lettuce and tomato. It comes with perfectly cooked steak fries which are actually a whole potato cut into quarters and are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. It's become my favorite burger and I am a burger lover. It's big and juicy and very satisfying. The atmosphere is great. The prices are reasonable considering the high quality ingredients. They should be making their own beef stock. Had no hint of brandy, wine or any alcohol that goes into French onion. Don't think it was Gruyere cheese. Very disappointed. Every time I go to the Suffolk Theater, I eat diner at the Dark Horse restaurant. And every time I pass Tweeds, and I say to myself " I need to try that place sometime". Well I finally went. And I was totally amazed. It isn't large, but very homey and cool decorations. There is quiet music making a terrific atmosphere. Watching the food being brought out to other tables was interesting. It all looked so good. I personally always try to eat free range meat when I can, and I was especially interested to try their local bison. I had their burger which was outstanding.. The local vegetables were cooked well and were tasty. The French onion soup was one of the best I've had. The beef carpaccio was fantastic as well. I think the cognac sauce needed a bit of depth, but it was still okay. The restaurant is small and cozy. The piano player was a lovely touch. The atmosphere is nice, kind of old school steak house. Very disappointed! Been going to Tweeds for 20+ years. Loved their Lump Crabmeat salad ( now Bluefin Crab) and Bison Berger. Today we were six celebrating. Portion size, quality and composition decreased significantly. Service was not to par, perhaps due to inexperience, as it was not overly busy. Piano player was playing and singing using an amplifier that must have been defective as the output was with lots of static and lyrics were loud and garbled. So much so as it was virtually impossible to converse at our table which was not close to the piano. The best part of our celebration was leaving at the end of our meals. I do hope they can get back to the Tweeds we knew or maybe it was a one off. We will see! read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants on Long Island...It is beautiful, unique and cozy. Being an animal lover, the first time my husband and I went here I wasn't sure I could get past the Bison and Deer heads on the wall, but once I sat down and had a drink and tasted their delicious food, I almost forgot all about it..LOL I have to say that it was the first time I ever tasted Bison, and it was delicious. I don't eat a great deal of meat, so when I do I want it to be special, and at Tweeds it is. We started out with fried oysters and scallops wrapped in bacon. Both apps so delicious! Scallops and oysters cooked perfectly, For our entrees my husband ordered the Bison Cowboy steak, and I ordered the seared tuna. My tuna was amazing, and cooked perfectly. My husbands steak he said tasted great but had a lot of fat, which we were surprised because bison is pretty lean. He's had this steak before at Tweeds, and it was perfect, so maybe it was just this particular cut. The drinks at the bar, where we sat for dinner were excellent! Christina is an awesome bartender and makes the most delicious Lemon Drop Martinis! They are definitely NOT from a mix and were the best I ever tasted. Their wine selection is also excellent and every wine we had was delicious. Christina will give you suggestions as to which ones are good to pair with the food you're ordering, and each wine she chose for us was perfect. They also have nice live music, which adds to the ambiance and makes dinner even more special. As far as the reviews that mention the place is pricey, I think paying for food and service that is impeccable is definitely worth it. This place is worth it! read more

The bacon wrapped scallops were good. My husband liked the short rib. The French onion soup had good flavor but was too salty for me. The cannoli I ordered for dessert tasted stale.
