After 30 years of family rentals 4x per year across all seasons, our last Twiddy rental last week (Oct 2021) was an utter embarrassment due to 1) the dismally filthy condition housekeeping left the house in, and 2) the unresponsiveness of Twiddy service staff. In all our years, not once have we had to deal with aggressive roaches in virtually every room of the house in broad daylight. They were in bathrooms, crawling on kitchen counters, laundry room, game room, bedrooms, bathrooms, poolside, and they even boldly crawled across the big flatscreen TV as we watched a movie. Super gross. Twiddy replied by saying they had already sprayed the house for bugs. That was in fact untrue. Twiddly also "apologized for the inconvenience." By the looks of the comments since late 2019, guests are spending much of their vacation time documenting needed repairs for Twiddy, and Twiddy must be spending a upwards of 40-man hours a week in valuable staff time exclusively responding to customer complaints-- only with apologies, not by actually repairing things, solving problems, or making things right with their customers. We have rented from Twiddy for many years - six years in the home we just left. The homes are always clean and beautiful, and service has been great. The pool and hot tub were also clean and well maintained. We had no issues this year. In previous years if we had an issue (for instance, tv not working), Twiddy repaired or replaced things promptly and cheerfully. RENTERS AND HOMEOWNERS BEWARE! We rented for the first time in 2020 through Twiddy. The house was amazing, spotless and so perfect. Loved it so much we decided to rent again this August. Our house was already booked so we tried a new one listed by the same company. Two families- 4 adults and 5 kids. We spent approx $8k for the week. After a 10 hour trek, we finally arrived at the beautiful house in Pine Island. And it was a mess. There were deck chairs in the pool; patio furniture thrown about the deck (no not weather everyone else's homes were fine), broken pool sticks, unmade beds, a huge red stain on one of the mattresses, stains on the carpet, crumbs and food stains on the tables and the sliding doors looked like one at a rest stop. I'll spare all you the photos. While the kids spent our first night on video games and not in the pool, I cleaned for 2 hours. ON MY VACATION. $8k! I had sent photos and complained as soon as we got there but it was a Sunday. We heard back from Twiddy around 1:30pm the following day! To spare every detail- the company asked if we wanted cleaning to be done (I declined as I already did it for Our first night) and that was it. No follow Up, no coupon for an OBX outing or anything to show good will. So we complained when we got home including all the pics. After a "4 week investigation" the company wants to send us a check for the cleaning fee of $125. WHAT A JOKE. We paid 8k for the week... and not even a "hey let's buy you guys some paddle boarding" or anything to save face! Or even a follow up call to say- we told the owners and that mattress will be taken out and replaced for the next renters... (thank God we didn't need the extra bed!) I feel bad for the family that came in after us. The company rudely emailed saying the $125 would be the highest price they would pay us. Frankly, that's not enough to pay the cleaning service in the first place. I'd give Twiddy negative stars for poor business practices, dirty homes, and no care whatsoever for their renters or their homeowners. Shame on you, Twiddy. If you're looking to give your money to a good company... pick someone else. I know I will. read more

We rented a house and only here for one more day. We are staying at Sandy dune and realized that the hot tub wasn't working after the second night we were here and I messaged twiddy with them answering but never having anyone come and look at the hot tub. We come here to do stuff during the day and relax in the hot tub at night and we're able to do that. I am very disappointed with the hot tub situation not being remedied. I don't think I will rent with twiddy again. We will b back next year but using a different realtor. read more

We've used Twiddy for years to help us find the effect home in OBX. They always come through. We were a little stunned at the pricing this year, but then again, prices everywhere have risen. Twiddy tried to deal with all the issues we had with Chez Plage. They were responsive to our calls, texts and even walk-in to the office. But you can fix broke. They sent out the maintenance people almost daily, an exterminator, the carpet cleaner, the pool guy, the TV guy, etc.The house was a dump and we wanted out but because it was not a catastrophic disaster they would not give us a new house. We paid lots of $$$$ for an ocean front home. Twiddy should know this house is in need of a complete make over and not make excuses. In 11 years of going to the OBX and renting, this was the 2nd time for Twiddy, we have never been so disappointed by the home we rented. Do not rent Chez Plage. What a disappointment having to deal with the conditions of our rental. Shore Pleasure is very tired. From the condition of the structure (Windows, sliders, screen) all the way down to the pots and pans, this place needs a face lift. We were unable to gain entry at the promised time. Sheets were stained (see pictures). We're going to make the best of it and still have a great time but it's in spite of this VERY over priced rental. It has not been well taken care of. I recommend looking at the currituck club across the street. Not on the beach but way better bang for the buck. AVOID TWIDDY AT ALL COST. read more

Staff is great!! Jillian was wonderful. Sad thing is the company's policy with regard to deposit fees for next rentals. You place a deposit but if you don't accept the price you lose the deposit. I can live with that when prices change moderately but in our case the rental increased 200%. So no reasonable SS applied to the policy. Customer loses. read more

*AVOID* We have rented from Twiddy for over 30 years as a family. We will never use Twiddy again after our last two vacations under them. They have grown to be a group that is not family oriented anymore and no longer put any valid effort into correcting their mistakes or the homes issues. For example, our property lost AC and they did not respond in a timely manor and the issue continued to happen over and over again. I have so much more to say but at this point, I'm exhausted in dealing with them. We will be using Carolina Designs from now on. You will not get a house as advertised with Twiddy. read more

Our family vacation was originally booked thru Outer Banks Blue but the oceanfront house we paid for had bed bugs. They referred us to a Twiddy but did not specify that we needed oceanfront. (Needless to say Outer Banks Blue had awful customer service). Twiddy got us an Oceanside house, but when I clarified with them that we needed an oceanfront house, Hannah at Twiddy went above and beyond and got us a beautiful oceanfront home in Carolla--"Knot Worried." This is a great house. Only recommendation would be to have a small sink in the bar area on upper floor. Very well equipped house and nice decor and the owners had 3 large yummy pies for us when we checked in! Hmmm..... we have traveled to the OBX for the last 17 years and have rented with Twiddy faithfully. Over the past few years, we have noticed a decline in service. Three times our reservations have been changed and we had to move houses. We make reservations based upon specific preferences months in advance and having to change and settle for less is frustrating! Now, you never know if the reservations will be honored. Little things that made Twiddy special in the past have changed. We used to get welcome basics for the house such as dishwasher detergent and we have even received small cooler bags in the past and now, there is nothing. In fact, even if your house is available and cleaned for an early check in, Twiddy charges you for those few hours! Let me give you another example -- we requested that our outside water be turned on upon arrival so that we don't track sand into the house. It is day four and no one has come to turn the water on despite daily calls for us. I also found our home to be dirtier and more bug ridden than any other year. There are many other realtors in the OBX. With declining service, it's time to look around. Renters beware. read more

We have rented homes in OBX for over 25 years. This past October (2022) we had the unfortunate experience of staying in Morning Star I. From the moment we arrived we knew that the house was in dire need of repair. I'll list just a few of the things that were in disrepair: paint missing from the interior railings, holes in the walls, the front of one of the kitchen drawers missing, a microwave that didn't work, dirty and unusable pots and pans in the kitchen (overall poorly stocked), a deck with loose boards and railing, a dirty and rusty charcoal grill, a rusty deck table with cheap and dirty plastic chairs, shower heads that didn't work and in fact one that sprayed all over the floor and almost caused our 86 year old mother to slip on the floor, holes in the shower wall, dirty and broken furniture throughout the house, bed mattresses well past their prime, filthy duct covers throughout the house, dirty carpet and the list just goes on. We initially asked them to move us to another home (being mid-October there must have been many vacant homes). They refused and brought over some kitchenware to tide us over. We then spent the better part of our one week rental, dealing with various repair people coming into and out of the house. Of course, none of the furniture was replaced or cleaned, rugs were not cleaned, mattresses were not replaced (they dropped some mattress toppers off) nothing in the bathrooms was repaired, they made some very minor repairs to the deck that had clearly not been maintained for years, and brought over some new plastic chairs for the deck table but did not replace the rusty table. Overall, we were victims of extensive deferred maintenance either by the owners or the rental company. We were told that we would be compensated for the condition of the home and the inconveniences it caused us. Had we not been in OBX for a family wedding, we would have left the first night we got there when they refused to move us to another home or refund out money so we could go stay in a hotel. Twiddy's initial offer of compensation was $250 which was totally unacceptable. They came back with their "best and final offer" of $440 and signatures on an NDA. Given the pathetic offer of compensation and the requirement to sign an NDA, we decided that it was better to not to accept their offer Thus, here is our honest review of Morning Star I. Given some of the more recent reviews of Morning Star I, it's obvious that nothing much has changed. Twiddy and the owners continue to collect rent on this property and renters are left to twist in the wind. I would highly recommend NOT renting from Twiddy. read more

We rented Summerland week of May 23rd 2021. Normally we go off season after Labor Day to avoid crowds. Drove from Delaware and arrived on beach around 2:00 pm knowing that keyless check in was 4 pm. We did call to see if home was ready early, unfortunately could not happen. We went to home at 4, no "cleaning" crew at home, proceeded to unload items from vehicles. Noticed not as clean as it should have been....then found coffee pot half full, counters had crumbs, food in cupboard, food in freezer/fridge that smelled and a fully loaded clean dishwasher. Went to rooms post on a bed was broken, toilet seat broken, toilet paper holder broken, wet dining room rug (which later gave off a urine smell) that we had to roll up and put on deck because of odor. I took pictures and sent to Twiddy and requested a response by email or phone call. Just to let them know it was previously in that condition. I had to call back 2 days later. The response was yes they received email and I should have called to have cleaners come back out. Sure just what we want after driving all day waiting for people who should have already had house cleaned while we wait to put our stuff away, cook and eat. We did have a good time, but this is the second time in 3 years service was poor. Normally we leave a tip for cleaners based on how home was upon our arrival.......that was not done. We also treat it like our home during the stay...vacuum, clean counters, pick up dog poop, wipe down bathrooms, dust and I even cleaned the grill! read more

We rented a home in Corolla and arrived in late May 2023. Since the weather can be iffy, we paid for pool heat so we could enjoy a warm swim, even if the ocean was cold. Well, two days into our stay, the pool heater stopped working. They tried to fix it but they weren't able. We asked for our pool fee to be refunded (even pro-rated) and they refused to refund anything. They said they fixed it. This is very poor business and it really soured us to renting with them again. $400 vs future rental income... hope they enjoy they money because they are not getting an additional cent from us. read more

A tropical storm paid a visit during our stay and we received multiple weather updates from Twiddy. My husband rented a house with Twiddy the first week of May for our 10th anniversary. We had problems from the moment we arrived at the property. We were given the wrong code to get in the house. Eventually someone was sent out to let us in. We arrived Sunday. There was no hot water whatsoever in the house until late Friday. The hot tub didn't work until Thursday. We were on the phone everyday with Twiddy trying to get hot water to take a shower. There were numerous maintenance workers and plumbers in and out of the house throughout every day of our stay except Saturday dealing with the hot tub and hot water heater. We were told they were waiting on the homeowner to approve replacing the hot water heater and that the old one was leaking from the bottom and couldn't be repaired. Before it was replaced we were told to reset the water heater to get hot water long enough to take a shower, which didn't work. The employees at Twiddy seemed irritated every time we called in as if we were inconveniencing them. The maintenance workers would show up and complain that it wasn't their job to do any of it. We were dealing with the inconvenience of no hot water AND dealing with the homeowners issues trying to get things repaired. Having our time interrupted all day everyday by workers in and out all but one day of our stay is unacceptable. Having no hot water to shower, especially having a baby and disabled grandmother in the home, is unacceptable. The decks were very unsafe. Boards felt like you'd fall right through and spindles were completely unattached, as seen in the photos. An adult could fall through them, much less a child. Rusty nails (see picture) were scattered on the bottom of the pool, which was very nasty as was the hot tub. The entire outside of the house was gross. Covered in bugs, dirt and webs. The house inside wasn't clean at all. I had to go buy bathroom cleaner and clean it myself. The master bath shower door did not seal at all and would flood the entire room if anyone was brave enough to attempt a freezing cold shower. The grill didn't work. It was an all around nightmare on a special occasion. Eventually a guy called from Twiddy offering to reimburse us up to $250 to go to dinner for the hardships we were having and assured us he was in contact with resolutions for further reimbursement. We didn't really want to go out to eat, but was under the impression that something would be done about our experience, so we did. No reimbursement whatsoever has been made! We were told to contact resolutions once we got home. They emailed us first saying we would be reimbursed $125 from the homeowners, which was adding insult to injury. We then received another email stating that because I, not even the policy holder mind you, had a balance owed to Twiddy for a different previous rental, we would be getting nothing at all. In that incident, I booked a home in December 2020. I was diagnosed with a life threatening blood clot days after making a deposit and told by my doctor not to travel and had surgery in December. I notified Twiddy immediately that day that I would not be able to come. The house was reposted and was only off market maybe 3 days. They told me they wouldn't give a refund and to file an insurance claim. Nothing was told to me about paying the remainder of that home. I filed insurance, which was a pain itself to deal with having to prove my medical condition to get my own money back. Months later sometime in 2021 i got an email stating that I owed $894 for that house despite never having gone there. Twiddy and the homeowner had already gotten a $900 deposit for a week nobody stayed in the house. The insurance was the one to pay my money back. They told my husband in an email that if I left a bad review, they'd respond by saying I breached contract on a previous home. Use EXTREME CAUTION with deceptive advertising. We rented Palm Paradise (BFS32) in Four Seasons in Duck. While I understand home features are not guaranteed amenities, we specifically chose this home for our spring break for the outdoor cabana with fireplace. We checked the fireplace the moment we arrived, and it did not work. We were told a work order would be put in, but it was not fixed for the entire duration of our trip- rendering the outdoor cabana useless (due to colder temps in April). Had we known this would not actually work, we would have chosen a different home. An outdoor cabana we cannot use might as well not be there. One ice machine worked poorly and the other, not at all. The biggest issue was the master bathroom causing a leak into the bedroom below. The jetted tub needed repair, and no one alerted us that it had known leaking issues. We used it, and the entire contents of the bathtub rained all over my son's bed and bedroom floor. We were up extremely early in the morning trying to troubleshoot this leak, placing buckets where it was raining indoors, and washing all bedding. Our efforts prevented the leak from extending down to the first floor's ceiling, as the second floor carpet was soaked as well. We also delayed our plans and waited for the plumber to arrive, so we could explain the path of the leak to him. The Twiddy rep who we reported the issue to said that guest services would be following up. This seemed to be to logically mean with some sort of good faith gesture for this inconvenience, but also our efforts to not just let the homeowner's home flood. Our time was wasted, and the main master bath was also useless for the trip, just like the outdoor fireplace. I understand that these homes take a beating, and repairs are of course needed from time to time. However, the fireplace and flood issue were massive inconveniences and left us with nothing but regret for paying this home's rental rate. Twiddy did follow up and offer us $230.22 for our troubles, an amount not worth our time. For that, we would have been better off letting this home flood and going about our day. read more

This unit is well-designed and furnished to maximize the functionality of the space, with lots of wall hooks and storage in tasteful beach-style furniture. The large shower with subway tile in the hallway is safe and accessible. Front deck for sunrise and ocean views; back deck for outdoor meals and reading. Labels in the kitchen and elsewhere make it easy to find what you're looking for. It was well-organized and clean; everything we needed was supplied in the unit. Owner obviously cares for this unit, and it made for a lovely vacation for the two of us, though 2-3 children could be accommodated as well. We signed up for next year for this unit as soon as we got home! read more

This is my second time renting a home from Twiddy in the Outer Banks. While my first experience was not good I was willing to give them a second chance. Last Fall when I reserved the home I had questions. It took weeks to get a return phone call or email reply. As we plan to head to our OBX home next month we want to take advantage of some of the services they say they offer. Once again, I have been trying to get anyone at Twiddy to either answer a phone, return a message or reply to an email. No luck. At Bubbas Beach House Courtesy of Twiddy Realty good times were had. The Coronas flowed like Mississippi River, the burgers were never ending and the wild horses of Corolla were like our next door NEIGHbors (get it, neigh? HA!). This place was a 12 Bedroom, 11 and two and a Half bath double kitchen pool wielding hot tub bubbling extravaganza. We came to conquer this land and plant our party flag and this beach house was our ship. The 16 of us had the time of our lives. 2 minutes from our feet in the water we visited the beach daily. Wild horses roam and relax on the beach just like the humans and coexist as one. Toads, Foxes, snakes and deer round out your wildlife but never became a nuisance. The house had a pool table, ping pong table, two bars, TVs everywhere, direct tv, and plenty of windows to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. This house was more than adequate to accommodate 16 people looking to make memories but there was a few problems we dealt with. 1) The Wifi didn't work and this is not a place you get any kind of service at. Make sure to load up on music in case you can't get Pandora or YouTube. 2) Our fridges didn't work well and one gave out completely spoiling some of our food and wasting some precious supplies and dollars and put us in a position to live out of a cooler more than we wanted. 3) The water to the bathrooms kept shutting off making showering and flushing a pain in the ass. 4)As nice as it was, everything was a bit dated and there's wasn't enough clear instruction on how everything worked like whole house music, the TVs and anything that needed turned off and on. Overall though, I traveled with people who wouldn't let nothing ruin friendship and a good time and we made the best of those few mishaps and made memories for a lifetime and in the end, that's what a beach house is for. Could not agree any more with Mark W. For the amount of money we spent to stay in one of Twiddy's rentals, you would think they would be able to afford maintaining the outside/inside... Our house was literally INFESTED with spiders and other critters. When we called the office to have somebody come out they said to us "oh, nobody warned you about the midges?" Apparently midges are not spiders, but they have eight legs and spin webs. Either way, when we asked to have someone come power wash the house they said to us "there is a hose at your house, you're more than welcomed to spray it." Completely thrown off guard by the lady on the phone telling me this, I'm also watching my sister point out that the stove is broken. The handle on the stove is dangling off, and needed to screwed back together. We managed to fix the stove. After a few days of pestering the office they told me that they put a ticket in for the house to not only be power washed, but also sprayed...this never happened. We were not able to utilize the house that we payed to have as our home away from home. I couldn't use the screened in porch, hang towels to dry, sit on any outside chairs, outdoor showers, grill, or peacefully walk in and out of the house. After staying at 109 Marlin Drive, I now cringe if I feel anything graze against my body hair. The inside of the house was decent. It was like we were living in a nice spiderweb. I feel embarrassed and played by Twiddy. I will not be returning next year as one of their customers. read more

I can't speak for all, but from my personal experience it seems that Twiddy is putting their own financial desires above the health of their tenants and others both visiting and living in the Outer Banks. My concern for this has lead me to contact them countless times, and to even reach out to the Dare County Commissioners Office. We have had no success in cancelling our reservation at this time. I currently have a vacation to the Outer Banks scheduled for June 5th - 12th. I have rented a large vacation home through Twiddy for myself and 11 others. The guests in our house include my son (whom we live with), who is awaiting deployment orders to serve on the frontlines in NYC. He currently works as an EMT in our county, and has dealt with a large number of COVID patients already. He will soon be in NYC, the epicenter of this pandemic, and will return just days before our scheduled vacation. He would like to self-isolate after this deployment, but instead it appears he will have to travel to the Outer Banks and risk infecting us as well as others. We also have a COVID nurse traveling in our group, and a person who works at a local testing site. We are clearly not the tourists you want visiting your towns, beaches, and grocery stores. We truly feel we are a public health risk. In addition to this, we have our own concerns. We have relatives coming on this vacation with us who are older and in high risk groups. We have also seen posts online from locals who clearly do not want visitors this summer. We saw the "Go Home!" letters that were left on out of state cars this week in the Outer Banks. We are not wanted, and we understand why. We desperately want to do what is morally right, but we feel we are being forced to sacrifice thousands of dollars in order to do that, as Twiddy will not refund us. They convinced us to utilize their re-market program, insisting they are confident our house will be rented by someone else and we will receive a full refund. Supposedly people are "calling every day" yet, there are 16 other houses with our number of bedrooms, and a private pool available for rent in our town for the exact same dates. Almost all of them are less expensive than our house. Something doesn't add up here. It seems highly unlikely that our house books. We cannot use our house to it's full ability. The full Outer Banks experience cannot be offered to guests anytime soon. Our safety, as well as the safety of others is at risk, and Twiddy does not seem to care. It seems as long as they get paid nothing else matters. Please do not make us choose between forfeiting thousands of dollars, and doing what is morally right read more

Top of the Dune should have been great. But it puts a damper on things when even the air conditioning is on the house is still 80. Advertised a trundle bed but it was a board w nails coming out and a mattress an inch thick. Refrigerator shelves kept falling off. And they said they had corn hole but they didn't. Plus got charged almost 200 for accidentally getting some clean linens dirty. read more

If I could put less stars, I would. This company was TERRIBLE to work with. We had a broken refrigerator that they initially replaced with a cooler and some ice. Needless to say we lost over $400 worth of food that we had bought. It took several phone calls and a visit to their office during our vacation to finally get a filthy, tiny refrigerator. They liked to blame everything on "the vendors" and would never give us a time to expect resolution. My aunt rented another house at the same time that had glass in the pool, trash wasn't picked up (inviting pest), and she was harassed by a Twiddy representative all the while planning for her son's wedding. read more

We have booked with Twiddy a few times, as we love OBX. This summer our experience with Twiddy, was awful. We stayed at the Perfect Storm. Upon arrival we had to reclean, which wasn't that bad. That is typical for us, but whole glops of soap and shampoo were left in showers, mold in the ice maker, etc. After that, the air conditioning did not work on the second and third floors. We called numerous times, while a vendor did come out, after a few days the heat was still unbearable. We had guests leave that were older and some that had respiratory issues. Twiddy dropped off fans for the bedrooms, and a portable ac unit that was attached with painters tape. While this made the room an even 75 degrees at most, the average temperature in the home was always above 75. The television in the main family area would not work for the first few days, we were told by one twiddy employee it was wired wrong, then another came out and didn't know what the issue was. The pool needs repairs, there was broken tiles everywhere all around. Definite safety hazard. The refrigerators downstairs smelled like rotten fish, we couldn't use them. The arcade games advertised on pictures were broken. For the amount of money this house costs to rent a week, we were very disappointed. So much we decided to book another trip after to give Twiddy one more try. i'll write about that under that house. After all of this they only offered $1000 compensation, which is hardly adequate for a home that was just under $22000 for a week! Dealing with customer service if you can get someone on the phone within two hours was terrible, while we spoke with a few polite and responsive employees, there are a few that are rude. In order to receive compensation you also have to sign a waiver stating you will not post anything negative about Twiddy or the home. Stayed at OBX beach house at 433 Kitsy's Point, Corolla. It was ok but for a house that is for listed for sale at 2.1 million, it could have been a lot cleaner. The pool was dirty the entire week - they never did clean it. The outside shower was filled with storm runoff including cigarette butts. The outside area in general was nice but it was dirty. Internet was down for 1/2 the week and Twitty didn't really care. Ice maker broken all week. Maybe the problem was the house was for sale and no one really cared about it. We didn't know we were getting a listed house until the day we got there. First time going through Twiddy for a rental. Could not have had a better experience. Very easy process to rent and the info that they shared re: services and options at OBX made our stay easier and more enjoyable. Love the app and text alerts that were sent prior to and during our stay. They were very accessible and friendly. Will be the only agency we use from here on out. read more
