"The Twin Oaks Tavern was a favored 1920s retreat for residents of the Nation's Capital to relax and enjoy refreshments in the cool breezes of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located on a mountaintop overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, [our] hillside winery produces distinctive wines, following our family's 200-year European winemaking traditions to create a peak experience for you." My husband and I visited this winery on a Saturday evening (arriving around 7:30 pm) in late May, 2026. We were warmly greeted by the hostess Mauve, who shared the winery's wine and food menus. Formal tastings were not being offered while we were there, nor was there entertainment during our visit. The hostess gave us tastings of two of their white wines (our preference), before we settled on a chilled bottle of "White Nights" (a fruity blend of Chardonnay and Reisling) (750ml, $32) and a charcuterie board for two ($22), with a nice selection of smoked meats, cheeses, savory crackers, a few grapes, half-strawberries, and nuts, and a sweet jelly spread. The tasting room was beautifully decorated, and offered wide views of the vineyards and the Shenandoah mountains from cozy chairs and small tables. We decided, however, to enjoy the picturesque sunset from the comfortable patio. While there, we were greeted by and chatted with the winery's female owner. For those who need overnight accommodations, Twin Oaks offers the "Little Acorn Cottage", through AirBNB and RV parking through the Harvest Hosts Program. We stayed overnight in our Class B Sprinter, and enjoyed the cool mountain breezes after a hot day at lower elevations. read more

BLUF: gorgeous location and good service. Wine selection and quality is a little less than expected. Went with a relatively large group on a Sunday. Only a few others there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their selection of food is small but it was all pretty tasty and relatively reasonably priced considering it's at a vineyard The wine selection is pretty slim. I'm not a fan of reds, which make up the majority of their selections. It also meant a very slim choice of three white wines, which frankly all tasted very very similar. I did not try reds because I don't like them but all those around me said the wine was okay but not great. The location and staff make it worth the visit, and I would go back for that if I was nearby. But I would not make it a destination for a special trip. read more

Wine Country is a magical land of its own, but Twin Oaks Tavern gives you even more of a feeling of being swept off to some distant, beautiful land where you can just relax and forget about reality for a little bit. This adorable winery sits atop one of many winding Virginia hills, so that you are able to look out over the vineyards themselves and the hills and valleys beyond. It's a view you want to just be able to soak in for a long, long time without ever looking away, and there are also giant windows that look out to this view, as well as a deck where you can enjoy. Something else very important about Twin Oaks: they have wine slushees! Not all of the wineries have them so that's a very important note in my opinion. And the slushees are sooo good. The brie, almond and honey spread with bread was TO DIE FOR. Between that, the slushees, and the view, we were happy as could be. This is such a gorgeous winery full of life and sweetness, and even my friend who is a local said it was her new favorite spot in wine country. Five star setting and service with live music on Sundays. Three stars for the wine. I didn't love the wines as both of the white blends are Chardonnay forward, and I'm not a fan of Chardonnay. Also tried the cab Sauvignon and the Red rocks blend but didn't love either. The Vidal Blanc had some nice passion fruit notes but there was something musty on the nose that I didn't love. We tried the chicken skewers which were pretty tasty. Most important they are super dog friendly and dogs are allowed in the tasting room (important since it was snowing!). read more

Nice winery with sweeping views of the mountains! I love the 2 floors of wrap-around deck shaded under the trees with plenty of space for social distancing! The winery has a nice relaxed casual vibe. The stone tavern has some pretty interesting history - built over 125 years ago in 1893 used primarily as a bed and breakfast weekend getaway for travelers from DC who took the train to Bluemont. The tavern was destroyed in a fire, nice to see the evolution to a winery! The winery was following Covid-19 protocols by banning tastings inside the tavern and keeping tables 6 feet apart indoors and outside. While the wines are dry, the wine slushie frozen delights are a fun way to cool off in the scorching summer heat! The slushies are on the sweeter side and loaded with sugar like the Watermelon cooler, which wasn't my favorite. The Vido Colada made from Vino Blanc was more balanced and just right. The Spice Wine Chiller had a nice spicy kick from the mullied wine! The fruity slushy is much more refreshing than just a glass of the Raven Rock Red Mullied wine. It's a very cute, rustic beautiful place nestled in the mountain side. With a great view of the vineyard below the deck and out between the rolling hills this winery is awesome. I love the popular wineries but this is a great hidden gem I am definitely coming back to. No crowds or overly dressed fashionistas there for just the gram/pictures. You can get wine by the glass or bottle. They provide a cork as well if you don't finish. The only issue is I wish they had a larger food menu available. We got the baked Brie with honey and almonds. SO GOOD. Highly recommend. I wanted a second! They do have a parking lot but it can get tight so be careful. No reservations needed and it wasn't slammed during the weekend. I omitted this time but next time I must get a Vino Colada. + The nibbles are a nice bonus. $4 for a bag of nuts to $12 for baguette and brie with almonds and honey. Who doesn't love these kinds of snacks? + Beautiful scenery. If you're sitting outside or inside you can get a nice view of the vines on the hillside. However, I would bring attention the following: - Not lots of reds. This is not a con for me (hello, there are a ton of whites and it IS getting warmer) but it could be for you. Overall, such a splendid time having good wine with good friends and a good backdrop. This winery was less than 1/2 mile down the road on the same road where we were staying at. We stopped here and just grabbed a wine v/s trying the different wines. The wine was good, I had a CAB and it was amazing, the wife had a mulled wine that was nice and warm. We went outside and enjoyed the vineyard view and nice view that is in the area. Nice place inside, appears that they have an area that you can stay on site as well. The lady working the front bar was pleasant and nice. Enjoyed my time here and wished I had more time to spend it here. read more

3.5 stars; Twin Oaks has a decent selection of wines, friendly service, and beautiful views. With 3 acres under vine they end up getting grapes from out of state. There wasn't any particular wine I loved, but nothing I disliked. But the ambiance is enough for me to want to go back, especially with a picnic. 3 tasting options are offered; a partial $7 tasting, $12 for the full 11 wine flight, or a $3 fruit wine only tasting. Their wine is among the most reasonably priced I've seen in the area: the most expensive was only $24! That might be because technically this is part of Shenandoah, not Loudoun. As many have noted, Twin Oaks has one of the nicer views in the area; while it doesn't have the same sweeping views nearby Bluemont has, it does have a more secluded feel to it. And as the name implies, it does have a super-cozy vibe. Lacking Bluemont's crowds is definitely a plus. As for the wine... Whites & Fruit: The 2013 Chardonnay had tart apple nose and woody taste. Not bad, although I thought the 2014 vintage they also served was better. The 2013 Chard/Reisling blend was pretty good. The Peach and Raspberry wines I thought were just OK. The Vidal had a nice tropical palate. Reds: The Oregon-grown Zinfandel had raspberry notes. The 2013 Bordeaux style Raven Rock Red was nice and spicy, and only $23. The Norton had a dark chocolate or cherry palate. One unique thing is they had a "Spice Chiller", which was described as Christmas in a glass. Even more Christmas-y was the mulled wine. Both were made from the same Raven Rock base, and were pretty good; maybe my favorites of the entire menu. read more

What a lovely winery! Located literally 800 meters from the Raven Rocks trailhead, Twin Oaks was the perfect scenic stop after a hard morning hike. The staff were all super friendly and the wines, though not particularly complex, were all eminently drinkable. Our party did both white and red wine tastings ($6 for 4 light pours of wines + 1 wine chiller) and enjoyed them both. Twin Oaks' whites were on the sweeter side; however, each wine did have a distinct flavor profile and solid body. The Chardonnay 2014 had the tang of green apple, while White Nights and the Vidal Blanc were much more honeyed. Their "rosé", a mixture of red and white wine, may not be the correct, traditional method...but it was so delicious, I ended up getting two glasses and our table regretted not buying a bottle. We did split a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which was smooth and not too fruit forward. We were also super into the wine chillers - the lemon wine chiller was like summer in a glass, but the mulled wine chiller really stole the show. It tasted like Thanksgiving and Christmas all rolled into one delightful, icy beverage. The pours are pretty generous - basically half the glass then a little splash. Food options are a bit sparse; we got the brie cheese platter ($12), salami and crackers ($10), and a bunch of bags of Doritos, but I'd recommend bringing your own food. One of the highlights of Twin Oaks is the incredible scenery - the winery is situated in a beautiful, renovated former tavern overlooking a vineyard and the Blue Ridge Mountains. I also liked that there was a large deck area (where a large bachelorette party set up camp), and a smaller, more secluded deck area that gave us a bit more privacy and quiet. When we ducked inside to try more wines, we were regaled with live music. All in all, a wonderful way to while away the hours on a warm weekend afternoon. read more

A small and cute winery. Twin Oaks has great views and tons of outdoor seating. There is seating inside, on the upper deck, and a nice grassy area with picnic tables. The layout is very simple and the place is very casual. The winery offers full bottles and wine flights. There is also a food truck on the premises. The wine itself is nothing special but isn't bad and is reasonably priced. Their offerings of white wine are much tastier than the reds. Their riesling was my personal favorite. read more

I've now been twice on a Saturday in November - there has been live music, we've been greeted warmly, and it's beautifully decorated. I've actually only had the mulled wine - which was DELICIOUS. Quelle surprise! Honh honh honh. After an enjoyable tasting at the more commercialized and crowded Bluemont Vineyards, we headed down the road to Twin Oaks Tavern. With only one Yelp review -- albeit positive -- I didn't quite know what to expect. What we found was an absolutely pleasant surprise, a winery owned by a Maryland woman whose heart (and hobby) resides in rolling Virginia wine country. And who can blame her? Twin Oaks' tasting room is tucked away in the Loudoun countryside, a rustic, woodland retreat with cantilevered decks overlooking the vines below. Looking at David R.'s tasting room pictures from over a year ago, they don't resemble *at all* the tasting room we saw (thank goodness -- those pics look cheesy!). We entered and set ourselves up at the smallish bar and were helped by Michelle whose enthusiasm for Twin Oaks' wines was infectious. Twin Oaks is a *tiny*, three acre outfit, producing between 250 - 300 cases annually and tasting three to four wines at a time. Michelle expertly took us through the tasting, beginning with a lovely 2011 Chardonnay, aged six months in French oak. It was followed by a 2010 Raven Rocks Red, a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. Its green pepper aroma and flavor tickled my nose and throat. The last wine was a 2011 Norton with plum-y, jammy notes up-front and a spicy finish. The modest $3 tasting fee is waived at Twin Oaks if you simply purchase a bottle of wine afterwards. Husband and I picked up a Raven Rocks Red to enjoy later at home; if we hadn't had more wineries on the agenda that day, I definitely could have passed a generous amount of time sipping vino on the back deck, noshing on Twin Oaks food offerings of cheese, breads, or nuts. Less than a year old, this is just the ticket as an alternate to nearby Bluemont Vineyard, which makes great wine, has a wonderful view, but is more like DisneyWorld than a winery. Less than a mile up the hill, on route 7 westbound, lies Twin Oaks Tavern Winery, named after an old tavern from the early 20th century (the original highway sign is inside the tasting room). The tavern itself is the tasting room, and there are decks that overlook the steep hills below. This place will be irresistible when/if warm weather gets here. Inside the tavern, there is a gas fireplace and the place is cozy to the max. The wines are excellent, although there are only a few as the winery is still new. They have a chardonnay aged in glass lined barrels that is unlike any chardonnay I've ever tasted (it reminded me more of a dry Rkatsiteli). Both reds (a Bordeaux-style blend and a Cab Sauv) are fantastic and it was difficult to pick the bottle to enjoy inside the tavern. The only negatives, and apparently these will be remedied soon, are the odd hours (currently open from 2 PM to 5 PM on the weekend), and the fact that the gas fireplace was not ignited while we visited. But that is splitting hairs. New rule: Avoid the DisneyWorld wineries and visit places like Twin Oaks Tavern Winery if you want a true Virginia winery experience. read more

Update: I don't appreciate being asked if I was confused about the location by the owner. That is very condescending! Attached is a picture I took while there. This is a late post and may have contributed to the owner's confusion, but shocking to have the owner's accusation to try to minimize my concerns while there. It doesn't matter how many tables you have in total if it is a nice day out and everybody is sitting outside. The outdoor area was very busy and there were multiple groups without seating just standing on the grass. The vineyard is extremely sloped and muddy to get up and down the hill for seating. --------------------------------------------- There weren't too many areas to sit and it was crowded. The lines were long to order. We got a few bottles of wine. The wine was fine! Nice property, but not too much space. We got lucky and found a seat but there were other people who didn't get a table! read more

Lovely tasting room, beautiful view of the far-out countryside and the small vineyard itself just below the attached terrace. They are small with a focus on quality you can taste. We enjoyed the physical setup (nice view), which is much smaller than the other nearby wineries (which we're all at capacity) and the guitarist (he played some nice classic rock cuts). They need to do a better job with social distancing in the main entrance. They had a sign but they weren't limiting capacity and it all falls apart if you don't enforce it. Also, they were on the slow side service-wise. Perhaps they were suddenly overwhelmed, but it shouldn't take 15 minutes to get 2 flights - and they should get defensive when asked about it. read more

Twin Oaks is one of those lovely little wineries where you can meet the winemaker and proprietor, Donna Evers, and learn about the winery and about her award winning, small batch artisanal wines. The views are truly awesome, looking clear a cross the Shenandoah Valley to Winchester and the Blue Ridge Mountains beyond. There is live music entertainment on weekend afternoons, and a fine bunch of gals behind the bar. Plenty of room to spread out, with three decks, plus three picnic tables down by the vineyard. Perched on the top ridge of Blue Ridge Mountain, it is usually about 10 degrees cooler than down below. This winery is located a little off the beaten path with a gorgeous view, large outdoor patio, and small tasting room. Their tasting room is open until 6 pm most days, and we showed up around 4 pm on a Sunday. We were looking for somewhere we could do a wine tasting and then buy a bottle to enjoy outside with some picnic food we brought, and Twin Oaks offered all of this with an awesome view. Inside, there was a small group of people listening to live music - folk versions of popular songs. It almost seemed like they were closed for business or a private party though, because we were given the cold shoulder right away. After waiting for several minutes to be acknowledged, we ordered the wine tasting for 4 people. Instead of explaining about each wine that was poured, the lady behind the counter just mumbled the name of the wine ("this is zinfandel") and poured less than one ounce of each taste, which didn't even seem like enough to form an opinion. We did not feel like driving back down to the main road and going somewhere else at this point in the day, so we bought a couple bottles and hung out on the patio. The wine itself was very good, compared to others in the area. At 5:50, realizing the tasting room was about to close, a couple people went inside to get another glass of wine. The woman working there was extremely rude, saying "last call was 5:45" and turned her back. About 10 minutes later, she came out and announced that they were closed, in a tone that meant she was kicking us out. It's understandable if they need to clear out promptly at 6, but she could have given us some notice, and what really bothered us was how rude she was about it. We were also really surprised that they would sell people a glass of wine as late as 5:45 (last call), and then kick them out at 6. I'm not sure if it's always like this at Twin Oaks, but it was clear that we weren't welcome that day. read more

We were not very impressed. The views were amazing and the decks were a very nice setting for sipping wine. However, the wines were not very good. I liked the Norton the best but they all seemed to have a thin flavor. Also, the tasting experience was not very welcoming. The servers were busy serving many customers at the same time and when not doing that they took out the trash. Explanation about the wines or winery was minimal. Twin Oaks appears to be a family-run operation. Tastings are inexpensive (only $3 person). As a group, we weren't as fond of the wines here, but we did buy a bottle of the Chardonnay to share and enjoy on the terrace. Honestly, the views from Twin Oaks are comparable to Bluemont Vineyards, just not as expansive. Sitting outside was lovely---it was quiet, relaxing and a guitar, harpist and accordion just added to the relaxing atmosphere.
