My 5 year old has been skating here for 4 months and loves it. The coaches are patient and great with her.

What a great place! Our daughter is taking lessons and it's absolutely so fun and exactly what we hoped.

Not very safe for beginner kids! The teenagers teaching have no clue how to set up the lessons so it can be safe.

Two sheets, decent arena, no lobby seating…read more From what my son says, the ice is decent, as are the locker rooms. His team has played the home team twice and they've been really competitive, though we've won both. All this to say that the hockey program here seems to be thriving. There are concessions, but they weren't open at the time we were there (weeknight evening). We'll be back as visitors, but if you live in the area and are considering a place for your kids to skate... this is an excellent option.

I am writing this review after multiple deeply disturbing experiences at Glacier Ice Arena…read moreinvolving staff conduct, serious safety concerns, and a complete lack of accessibility. What happened here affected my children emotionally and physically, and I do not believe this facility is safe for kids. On my very first visit, I was alone with my four children (ages 8, 6, 4, and 4 months). I thanked one of the coaches for helping me and mentioned it had been a hectic morning. Her response, said directly in front of my children, was: "It's your fault you had so many kids." My children later asked why an adult would say that. I was heartbroken. This comment was cruel, unprofessional, and emotionally harmful. On another day, my 4-year-old daughter attended Tot 1--only her second skating class ever. She was fully dressed and nervous about getting on the ice. I calmly told that same coach that my daughter was nervous about getting on the ice, who replied coldly in front of my child, "That's your problem," and walked past us. No one who works with young children should ever speak that way. During that same class, when my daughter finally got on the ice, she fell and could not stand back up. She was left sitting on the ice for over 8 minutes without assistance, repeatedly trying to stand and failing. No instructor helped her. At the time, I was nursing my 4-month-old baby with a broken arm in a cast and felt helpless. My daughter came to me in tears, saying that no one would help her. That broke my heart. My daughter thrives with her ballet and tennis coaches and is normally confident and happy. I deeply regret placing her in an environment where she was treated so poorly--both verbally and physically. Another incident involved the front desk staff. I was sternly told to move my stroller even though it was not blocking the doorway. I was helping my three children put on skates while my baby cried in the stroller, and I had a broken dominant arm. There was zero compassion or understanding. Glacier Ice Arena is also not stroller- or disability-friendly. There are no ramps, no elevators, and only one handicap push-button on a front door. Navigating the facility with young children, a stroller, or mobility limitations is difficult and unsafe. Another concerning experience involved food quality and staff behavior at the concession stand. I purchased popcorn for my children, and they immediately said it tasted old and stale. When I brought this up, the lady working at the popcorn concession stand was extremely rude and condescending toward me. I am attaching a photo of her below. Whether you're reading this review on Yelp, Google, TripAdvisor, or elsewhere, I encourage you to click on my name and review my history. I do not write negative reviews lightly. Over several years, my reviews have all been five-star reviews. However, I have never been treated as poorly as I was here. There appears to be a troubling culture of disrespect from multiple staff members. I echo what many other reviewers have said: the staff is shockingly rude. Beyond rudeness, the behavior I witnessed was emotionally damaging, physically unsafe, and unacceptable. If you have other options, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere, such as Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion (Buffalo Grove), Northbrook Sports Center Ice Arena (Northbrook), North Shore Ice Arena (Northbrook), Centennial Ice Arena (Highland Park), Hot Shot Ice Arena (Lake Bluff), Top Shelf Ice Arena (Gurnee), Glenview Ice Center (Glenview), and others. I hope Glacier Ice Arena reflects seriously on these issues. Until significant changes are made, I do not believe this facility is safe in any sense for children.

A gymnastics and ice rink in one facility, who would have thought?!?! I never knew this place…read moreexisted as you can't really drive by this place. Its tucked into the woods about a mile inside homes and forest. The facility is pretty big for both an ice rink and a gymnastics facility. The ice rink also has a smaller rink designated for lessons. We came today for the Winter Fest and the staff was amazing and helpful. With children who did not know how to skate the ladies on the ice came immediately over to help get them on the ice and even skate around with them a little. The gymnastics area also has a window and sitting area for parents. The teachers in there as well were helpful with the kids. What a great unknown facility in Highland Park.

When it comes to kid classes I don't like to drive more than 10 minutes and Centennial Gymnastics is exactly 17 minutes away from my house (on a no traffic Sat morning), but I was looking for a gymnastics program that my daughter and I could do together. I've heard incredible things about Wilmette Gymnastics,* but their 3 year old class is without the parents. Typically I'm a fan of sending her to activities on her own, but was a bit nervous about sending her off to the balance beams, bars, etc without my supervision. I also used to teach gymnastics back in high school so selfishly wanted to revisit those days vicariously thru my daughter. Overall, I like the setup of this class. The gym is small so there's only one class at a time (at least on Saturday mornings). While small, they have it all: balance beam, bars, trampoline, etc. Since it's parent-tot it's setup as a series of obstacle courses so ti's a bit of a free-for-all for the kids, but I think that's perfect for this age. And while there's not a ton of instruction going on my daughter has learned how to do a forward roll and backward roll in just the few weeks we've been there. Perhaps cartwheels are next week? This is definitely worth the 7 extra minutes I spend in the car; especially based on the smile on my daughter's face during and after class! * http://www.yelp.com/biz/wilmette-gymnastics-wilmette

Based on what we saw, the programs here are well managed and the ice is well maintained (though a little rough in patches). There is plenty of parking if you're visiting. The only complaint is that the "so-called" visitor seating is very small and as a visiting parent I was shocked to be asked to move to the "right" section. Of course I didn't, because I was comfortable at center ice so I could see my son play at both ends. Aside from the unfriendly welcome from the opposing team, I think this is a great place to enroll your kids or come in for an open skate!

Oakton offers the same admission fee only their Resident/Non-resident prices are $65/$75 (significantly cheaper). Quality of the ice. The rink isn't even smooth. Never once have I been here and the ice was smooth. Huge gashes in the ice which cause the less experienced skaters to fall more frequently. It's very dangerous actually. I DO NOT recommend this rink if you're a new skater or would like to teach your young ones how to skate. A better option that is the same price, better quality ice and a much safer experience would be Oakton Ice in Park Ridge. It's worth the extra mile honestly.

I've spent countless hours at both skating, playing and watching hockey games. While the other rink has a bit more nostalgia, I still have fond memories here too. It's not what it once was, but it still gets the job done for the basics of an ice rink. There is plenty of space all around, whether its the lobby, stands or locker rooms. It is sad that the Jerry's Pro Shop is no longer (thanks COVID), as well as the arcade that once existed in the first room to the left when you enter. I cannot speak on any of the specific programs (i.e. Renegades) since its been over a decade since I last played, though I've been few times here and there for public skates. Pricing for that seems reasonable, though I've had my own blades to use. The only negatives I could mention is that the Men's restroom is in a bit of disrepair, and that's why this review is down a star. Otherwise, it's still the same I as I remember. It's also a shame that they don't seem to have tournaments a lot, since they certainly have the space. Happy skating!

We cheered on a Chicago-Style Roller Derby bout last Saturday night. The rink seemed to be working for the teams, and we appreciated the rink-side fan seating option, on the floor right up next to the action. The acoustics weren't the best, so we could not discern 75% of what the announcer was saying, the the bout was great and we enjoyed our first visit to Salt Creek Sports Center. Loved that there were vendors present and we picked up decals, t-shirts, baked treats, and some really beautiful watercolor note cards. $20 a person to watch was steep, but I don't know if the facility sets the price or if that was the Derby folks charging $20 a person. Still really enjoyed our night!

Recently, they got some janitor closet turned into a women's locker room which it certainly isn't, but that's beside the point because my daughter plays roller hockey there. I will say the rink is tended in a decent manner, always plenty of parking, washrooms are reasonably clean, and they have a decent concession stand with a variety of food and beverages and you can walk in there on a Sunday morning and have the place to yourself. Supposedly across the street the Bears are going to build their stadium at Arlington Park , hopefully it doesn't affect this place since they do offer something that is not around a lot ,and that is roller hockey. Would hate to see something happen to this place since it serves a good purpose.
