During my time there, I observed situations where a resident's call light remained on for an extended period while staff members were sitting in the hallway talking and laughing. I found myself having to assist with many of the resident's needs because staff were not responding as promptly as I would have expected. I understand that I am there to provide support, and I am more than willing to help, but there are certain things I cannot do because I do not have the same access or responsibilities as facility staff. I also witnessed interactions from some staff and therapy personnel that came across as impatient and unkind. Residents in a care facility deserve patience, dignity, compassion, and prompt attention--especially when they are asking for assistance. What bothered me most was seeing staff socializing and laughing in the hallway while a resident was waiting for assistance. Whether or not there were other circumstances I was unaware of, the situation did not give me confidence in the level of attentiveness being provided. I'm sharing this because I genuinely hope management takes these concerns seriously. The residents deserve better. They deserve to feel cared for, respected, and heard--not like they are an inconvenience.

It is a very difficult thing for any family to do and each team member, to a person, was able to relate and somehow ease our pain during the process. The culture of the team reflects the leadership in that they all just want to do everything they possibly can to help the residents live their best life. The "ARTIS Way" isn't just a marketing ploy. The team is attentive, responsive, and all seem to love what they do. This is paramount to me, especially during the pandemic, as I have not been able to spend much in-person time with my mom. She appears to be happy and healthy and seems to be thriving in the environment. She has friends and value in her life. The team understand that each resident and each family is unique with unique circumstances. The communication (text, email, social media posts) is frequent and transparent to the point where I feel fully informed and rarely have to reach out for specifics. It is a joy to see and hear of the activities that my mom and her friends participate in. I told a good friend that what I should do when it came time to move my mom from her home of almost 60 years was a years long prayer and I feel that God answered my prayer.

The shortage of staff in the past. The only director left is the activity director. The ones who cared were let go or quit. If corporate would have listened to many of us years ago when we all complained you would not be in this situation. I worry for the people there. Board of health was just out (twice this month) the critical issues is frightening. I would suggest do your research. Check the clerk of courts for information on pending case against them. Check the board of health website and talk to your local west side friends
