Cute little ice cream stand in auburn hills downtown. We wanted to satiate our post dinner sugar craving and were pleasantly surprised to see the place open till 10 PM. There was a fair crowd at 9:30 PM . The place has a huge selection of flavors ( 24 flavors for soft serve) , hand scooped flavors, sundaes and slurries. There are cute benches nearby . There is almost always a queue but it moves pretty fast. There is a lot to try there and I am definitely going back. read more

This is a terrific little ice cream stand on the fringe of downtown Auburn Hills. They have a vast array of flavors, more so than most IC spots that are primarily soft serve places. We tried the Banana and we added chocolate chips for good measure. It was great. Of course, their classic varieties are also good. Our grandsons tried the chocolate and vanilla (with sprinkles, naturally), respectively, and were quite happy with their choices. The service was friendly and efficient and their prices were very fair. They have some picnic tables on the grounds where you can sit and enjoy your treats. It was an enjoyable experience and we'll look forward to our next chance to pay a visit. read more

The ice cream here is unmatched! They have so many different flavors and options to choose from you really can't go wrong choosing this place. As long as you have an ice cream flavor that you like, they'll most likely have it. The staff is kind, friendly, and patient. The environment around is some of the best. It isn't summer until visiting the Twist N Dip! This summer was a little different due to coronavirus. Twist N Dip did a good job with social distancing guidelines and precautions. The ground had circles to stand on while in line to keep 6 feet apart. The covered picnic area was closed off but there were a couple seats and benches still open. Workers had PPE and there was a plexiglass divider between the order window and window where orders come out. Most customers wore a mask, and everyone was aware of their personal space and others. The menu and treats are always delicious! Went with my go-to treat, small m&m flurry. The small is a pretty decent size - compare to a Dairy Queen blizzard small, the Twist N Dip small is huge! My husband got a root beer float and it was served in a big gulp cup. We also got a treat for our pup - whipped cream in a cup. CLOSES AT 10, NOT 11!!!! Drove all the way to Auburn Hills for ice cream because this place says it closes at 11 on Google and Yelp. When we got here at 10:05, it was closed. The hours on the building say 11-10pm. I wish they would update their hours, at least on one of the platforms, so people don't waste their time driving here past 10. read more

Have driven past Twist N Dip several times a month but had never stopped in until today. We were in the immediate area for something else and decided that today is the day. After studying the Yelp photos and reviews recently, then looking over the menu when we arrived there, I decided to get the soft serve medium Chocolate & Vanilla Twist Cone dipped in Chocolate. My wife ordered the soft serve Coffee Ice Cream Cone. The weather was very cooperative with the temperature just under seventy degrees and partly sunny so I could eat it slightly faster than it could melt. That's always a plus when having ice cream outside. Mine was just what I expected with plenty of chocolatey flavor and the medium size was generous; I probably should have ordered the small but...chocolate. 2019-07-03. Twist N Dip. Auburn Hills. Located in downtown Auburn Hills just east of Squirrel Rd, Twist N Dip is a mom & pop business catering to the local population. Their MO is much like a Diary Queen. With an array of items revolving around their custards, you can get shakes and malts, flurries, sundaes, parfaits, and banana split. Of course they also have a soda fountain so you can also get floats, freezes, coolers, glaciers, or just plain soda pop. In addition, they also serve froyo, and food! The food menu is limited to staples you would find at any Coney place. On a side note... Ice Cream vs Custard vs Gelato vs Soft Serve. In the US, the FDA guidelines for ice cream at its most simplest is the freezing of a pasteurized mix of dairy ingredients while stirring. For ice cream there are strict guidelines on weight, no less than 4.5 lbs/gal. This limits the amount of air in the cream during the whipping/freezing process and why ice cream is hard and dense. Custard is typically when this pasteurized diary mixture contains more than 1.4% egg yolks, and thus a lighter, airier, and much softer concoction. Gelato is really just creamier ice cream. From a density perspective, it falls between Ice Cream and Custard, closer to the Ice Cream side. This creamier dessert also contains less butterfat, thus allowing more of the flavour to come through. And storing it at warmer temperature allows it to be served "tempered" enhancing the flavour even more. A well made and properly served gelato should have a clean and natural taste that lingers on the palette, it should be creamy and spreadable, and should carry a smooth texture in the mouth. Soft Serve. This is basically your Dairy Queen. It comes out of a spout and is soft and creamy and needs to be consumed immediately. It doesn't fall within the guidelines of Ice Cream because it's never packages and frozen. It is constantly churning to introduce air, giving it a fluffier texture; It's made with less milk fat, and served in a semi-firm state. If you're at the supermarket and the packaging doesn't explicitly state Ice Cream, Custard, or Gelato, then it's not! It falls outside of the FDA guidelines. Now back to the review... Twist N Dip has parking for about 10 vehicles and a couple of areas with picnic tables; They MO is primarily soft serve. They have 24 daily flavours that come at a 35 cent premium, in addition to their staple selection. After perusing the menu, I decided to go with Cookie Munch. Vanilla Soft serve sandwiched between two cookies, dipped in milk chocolate, rolled in a crushed peanut and sunflower seed mix, add a popsicle stick, bag it, store it in a freezer, and you have yourself a Cookie Munch. The concept was a good one, they just needed to think it through better. Let's start from the inside and work our way out. Soft serve center, bad start... on hot days, the melt factor gives you but a couple of minutes to scarf the entire thing down; should have went with real ice cream here. The cookie, although present, it was way too thin, they need to use a premium thicker cookie; same with the chocolate dip, necessary to hold the soft serve together but once the seal was broken, the melt factor went into high gear. They should have double or triple dipped to thicken its walls. The nut & seed coating was was ok, but could have been better by adding more seed variety (Sesame, flax, chia, pumpkin, or even some grains). Overall, I was disappointed in this, 1,5 stars. We treat ourselves with Twist N dip as much as we can in these summer months! I love how they have managed to keep thing safe during Covid as well! Depending the time of day you go, parking may be difficult (unless you walk there) and the line can be quite long, but that gives you time to decide what to order as they have quite a few options. I was really overwhelmed (in a good way) by the selection of ice creams, snow cones, foods, and other snacks. The banana split was creamy and hit the spot on that really gross humid summer day. The bananas were perfectly ripe, not too mushy or bruised or anything. Service was quick and friendly as well. The only reason I took off 1 star is because parking was pretty bad, it's really hard to get out (luckily the guy next to us adjusted so that we'd have an easier time). I also think that the seating could be better; almost got a splinter on the peeling wooden bench. If I'm ever craving ice cream again though, I'd definitely come back. read more

Their rainbow sprinkles are placed right next to their tub of peanuts, using the same spoon to scoop both peanuts and rainbow sprinkles. I ordered a scoop of superman ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. Received my ice cream, and two bites in I started to wheeze, I asked the people working at the time what would have caused my reaction and was told by a worker, "Oh, I was going to ask if you had a peanut allergy, we keep our peanuts by our sprinkles and use the same spoon" and was then offered a new scoop of ice cream free of charge, even though I could barely breath. The workers are either not sufficiently trained in cross contamination, or they do not care. I truly love this business and am hoping things will change because I don't want someone else to go through this as well and have a potentially worse reaction.
