There was a line but it moved quickly, when I got to the front I still hadn't decided what flavor to get! I asked for a sample of the egg nog and thought it tasted a little like blue moon so I had to get that and it was great. My brother got peanut butter cookie dough and my parents shared a sorbet. This place markets itself as a wholesome farm based business. IT IS NOT. The ice cream includes industrial based corn syrup solids. That additive is banned in Europe and has been positively linked to obesity. They should be ashamed of themselves. But they have a long history of tending to Cows! Their story begins in 1927 with Peter Oberweis, a farmer who sold his excess milk out of the back of his horse drawn wagon to make a little extra money in Aurora, IL. In 1930, he invested in half of Big Woods Dairy, what we know today as Oberweis Dairy, and henceforth his legacy began... Today, four generations later, Jim Oberweis owns the company and his son Joe (named after Jim's Dad) is CEO. While they have stopped selling out of horse drawn wagons, they continue to make deliveries. No longer a ledger of addresses and personal visits, ordering and tracking are coordinated and communicated via a smartphone app (you can call too If you're old school). The Business continues to source from farmers that pledge not to use artificial growth hormones, ensure the cows are free of antibiotics, and that they're treated humanely. This doesn't mean that if a cow gets sick, they become steak; no, what it does mean is that they will be removed as a source, given the proper medication and treatment to recover, and put back into service after they've been confirmed clear of all unnatural hormones and antibiotics. For ice cream flavors, we went with chocolate peanut butter, Black Cherry, and coconut chocolate almond instead of the classic chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla (no charge). It came with pecans, whipped cream, pineapple, hot fudge, and strawberry. We also added a brownie base (+$2.19), sending this dish into the $$ range. The ice cream was creamy and naturally smooth and dense. Old Fashioned. We went with the large here that offers 2 scoops instead of one. We went with black cherry and blueberry pie. Toppings were whipped cream and strawberries. Both ice creams were made with real fruit and were fantastic! Of all the flavors we tried tonight, the blueberry pie was a clear winner as that went before all others. Runner ups were black cherry and chocolate peanut butter. When it comes to food consumption, healthy choices has really gained traction over the last decade, and there is more choice than ever with every product. But my MO remains, moderation. I have no problem with eating something drenched in butter, just don't eat a gallon of it. I find it refreshing that good old fashioned premium ice cream still exists. Oberweis is a pretty good ice cream parlor, and I'm pretty their ice cream is made with 18% butter fat (aka milk fat). It's casual and friendly venue is a welcoming spot for families and groups alike. I had high expectations of this place given the reviews and hate to leave a bad review. I only do so if my experience is truly terrible. I ordered one scoop of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge. It was handed to me 50% melted and a soupy mess. What little ice cream was left, tasted incredibly sour and had absolutely no vanilla flavor. I was fortunate to sample super premium ice creams and gelati across the country and overseas. I know good flavor when I see it and this was not it. To ensure it wasnt me, my fiance tried a bite and confirmed the sour taste. He ordered and was charged for two scoops of chocolate chip ice cream but only received one scoop. I caught the error and sent it back, and they fixed it. His ice cream was also very sour. We took one bite of each and threw both away. Not sure if these were bad batches, or if this is just the recipe. Ice cream should not taste sour. They should batch test before selling. Also, the servers could use some training: check orders are correct before handing to the customer and do not serve ice cream soup. read more

You can honestly taste how rich and decadent the ice cream was it was very different from your regular ice cream, and sometimes it was actually too much but it was so delicious that I would finish it. Over the summer they get very busy and there will be a line and a weight however they have games that you guys can play while waiting and they have decent late hours where if you're craving an ice cream at 9 o'clock you can still get it. They do keep the place very clean and tidy and the workers are usually very friendly and always smiling. The reason why this place isn't getting five stars is because due to their heavy busy hours sometimes I have had to wait at least 30 minutes for my ice cream before. read more

Tried this place twice, both times were during the fall on a Saturday night in the evening. Both experiences have been the same. GREAT ice cream, but slow and shaky service. Both times this place was packed with families, teenagers, couples, you name it. I think this place does well because it is open much later than other ice cream places. The ice cream is so so so good. It is creamy but firm and doesn't have any artificial tastes. We also picked up a small half and half creamer which was good as well. A bit on the pricey side, but again the ice cream is excellent. The problem is the service. A lot of confusion going on with whose orders was whose in regards to the employees getting the ice cream and the customers. The service is slow and a bit annoying to the point where it isn't worth it to wait around for a couple scoops of ice cream. Example, I got a kiddie size cup and my husband got a small. When we got our ice cream, they both were in kiddie size cups. Now we would've complained but with the rushing and number of customers in line we didn't want to make a fuss. But I am sure it is because these kids are rushing around that mistakes get made. Now I do think some of the holdup is those eating inside get glassware, instead of your average plastic cups. We were able to get a table inside and their options while numerous were not overwhelming. My dad went fairly basic with a mint chocolate hot fudge sundae. He seemed to enjoy it. My mom tried one of the newer flavors of coconut chocolate almond in a hot fudge sundae day. I asked the cashier which of 2 different types of ice cream she recommended as a hot fudge sundae. She picked the one I was questioning if I would enjoy. The black raspberry chocolate chunk was so good. I'm so happy I took her advice. This actually might be my new favorite. We spent some additional time talking and the staff didn't seem like we needed to leave. I will definitely think about stopping in more often to get the ice cream I tried. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place, so just went up to he counter and asked 'Tess' what would she recommend and I don't like too sweet I've creams and dark chocolates are my favorite. Her favorite was Caramel crunch so I ordered it with vanilla to not go overboard with flavors. Best decision I took in a long time! Service is very nice and if you wish to try any of the flavors before buying, you are more than welcome to try it. i was lookign for a good dairy products and came across this store. I bought cottage cheese and eggs which supposed to be from the farm. Cottage cheese contains so much salt that it is impossible to eat. I never had cottage cheese with so much salt that stays with you after eating. Eggs, I expected they would be better than in a regular store. Not really. Whites are very watery. Again never before seen it that whites can run like water. I have been here 3 maybe 4 times for ice cream. Every time I go I receive the same results. The ice cream is good but the service is very poor. Mostly younger kids/adults working with very little to zero customer service skills. I would guess it's a lack of proper training but then again this is pure speculation. Example: me: yes I would like 2 single scoops. 1 scoop strawberry and 1 scoop peanut butter chocolate in a bowl please....... The product I received: 1 scoop of strawberry in a bowl and a few minutes later 1 scoop of peanut butter chocolate ( with a frozen block of peanut butter) in a separate bowl. A nice place to sit down and have dessert. They have games you can play. Appears clean. They must have a huge turnover there, because every time we come in to use our ice cream of the month cards, some manager has to come over and show the employee how to ring us up. The ice cream of the month is a good deal if you live nearby. For $20 a year, you get 1 scoop a month, a $3.50 value. For the kids, they get 2 kids size scoops per month for $20 a year. Speaking of scoops, they do make sure you don't get more than you are supposed to. They must have cameras on the employees scooping the ice cream. I went here last night after not visiting for about 2-3 years and was pretty disappointed. The store was actually very busy for a Monday night. They had 4-5 people working including a manager. We ordered and received our order relatively quickly which was nice. The ice cream was good but really expensive which was no shock. The tables were not very clean. We spent maybe 30 minutes at the store and there were dirty silverware and glasses at several tables that were never moved and the floor was clearly not washed. That would have been fine if all of the staff members were occupied. Most of the employees were pretty diligent in taking orders and cleaning, but the manager didn't do anything and lead someone who clearly did not work there into the back room which made me really uncomfortable. The guy who was not an employee was walking by the food behind the counter and chatting with the manager for a good 20 minutes, all while the other employees interacted with customers and actually did their job.
