I have been wanting to try this place since it is so close to home, but the hours aren't very convenient for me. They are only open until 3:00. It is cute inside decorated nicely and very tidy. Our server was prompt and on point with the refills. They actually serve alcohol but I had a sweet tea. They have Coke products but Coke zero is only in a bottle. My omelette was delicious, very filling. The hashbrowns were overdone to the point I couldn't eat them as they had no flavor and it was not enjoyable at all. The interesting part was the biscuit. I had the daily special which was sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella. It was so delicious! It didn't dawn on me until after I was eating that the title of the restaurant, "twisted biscuit", is why they have different biscuit flavors, other than just the normal buttermilk that you get other places. He stated unfortunately that day they had many unkind patrons to their staff, and while not an excuse he did apologize and offered to have us back. I would really like to further discuss a situation that happened today that I'm very distraught over. I had a really nice meal with some family and friends here today and wrapped up maybe around 1pm. I was outside near my car then had a manager (or potentially the owner??) come out and start yelling at me assuming I was someone who had just swore at one of their staff? He was heated and I was trying to explain that 1. No. I didn't do that. And 2. Who said that I did cause let me talk to them and then they'd realize it was not me. He then quickly apologized and walked back inside. I had a second individual come out and apologize as well. I guess there was a situation in which someone had yelled at one of their wait staff and then assumed I was the one who did it as I walked out? I have NEVER in my life felt so belittled and offended. And it was in front of my child and my friends. If you're going to accuse someone of wrong doing please be sure it's the correct person before you do. This was insanely uncalled for. It took me quite some time to calm down from this, and even now-I just cannot believe that this happened to me today. The chicken fried steak and chicken n biscuits were a hit with my dining buds. I ordered the eggs Benedict over grit cakes and didn't love it, but I'd definitely go back! We stayed in Mt. Dora for a few days, beautiful little town. On our way home we were hungry and stopped at this gem of a restaurant in Tavares. Very welcoming, nice customers and employees. We had our dog with us and they have outdoor seating available the waitress also brought outlets dog a bowl of water. The hostess was wonderful the waitress excellent. It was clean inside especially the bathroom. The food was delicious, I wish we could have tried other items on the menu but we were in a rush. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary local diner/hole in the wall type place for breakfast/brunch this is the spot. It is out of the way, not on the main path per se, but it is a must find kind of place. I love all the different biscuit recipes which definitely live up to the name. The staff just looks and feels like they belong here. You will love the atmosphere. It will make you feel like you can eat and go or be okay staying most of the day. Love this place. I saw this place on the news and had to stop by! We sat at the counter bar. Their bloody Mary's are fantastic with bacon and shrimp! The bartender is great and pumping out drinks like no tomorrow. When we received our food I wasn't blown away like I thought I'd be. The biscuits are THICK cookie cutter like, definitely need a drink to get them down, weren't buttery or bursting with flavor. Excited to try this new spot out as there are few options in the area. Service is fantastic and warm. As with the name of the restaurant, I went with the Slap Your Mama Biscuit as recommended. Comes with bacon gravy, 2 bacon cheese biscuits, bacon, and tomatoes. First thing is most important, it's just an okay biscuit. Wish it had more texture and light flaky layers. Second, the gravy tasted fine, but it was bland dish. The gravy begged for salt as then the dish finally popped with the tomatoes coming through and it tasting more than just flour and flour from the biscuit and gravy. Instead, the Patty Melt is well done and would've preferred that. Great marble rye, pickles, juicy burger. Great potato salad that can be subbed for cole slaw. Hard to find a good/great meal in the area. So enjoy! read more

We had a party of six for Mother's Day breakfast. The wait was a little long (45 minutes) but once seated there were very few delays of any sort. I had the country fried steak breakfast. The eggs and grits were cooked correctly. The CF steak was probably the best I've had in years. It was a good piece of meat cooked absolutely perfectly. I was actually a little disappointed in the biscuit. It was dense and heavy. The corners were hard. I prefer a lighter airier biscuit. All six of us had different dishes. One of the others also didn't care for the biscuits but everyone over all was pleased with their food. The waitress was very good. Service was as good as I've had in quite some time. Especially good when you consider the place was overpacked. As a nice extra gesture, as we were finishing up, they brought all the moms a single red rose. A very nice touch. I tried the Florida Cracker Benedict which is poached eggs on grit cake with fried green tomato, bacon & tomato gravy and choice of biscuit, it was delicious (eggs were poached perfectly which is sooo important to me). Also snagged a few bites of my hubby's sausage gravy with sage biscuits and I'm still dreaming of that flavor combo. Customer service is 80% of a restaurant experience. The food can be brilliant but if the server won't order you eggs in the cooked manner you have asked for then why buy them? The sausage was excellent the coffee was good, the grits great. I do not like to write bad reviews, but when I over heard the manager and our server complain about my request for my eggs to be cook over easy with no burnt edges, I was compelled to share my experience. When I sent the burnt eggs back, I received a new plate with eggs that were perfect. Remember I said I over heard the manager and the server, their comment was, she is not the only customer in the restaurant. This bothers me because, yes they are busy, is this now excuse to serve a customers food they can not eat? We all work for our money and if I am buying a granny smith apple I don't want to be given a poisoned red delicious. To the owner, do better, you are busy because of your customers, do use a busy excuse to services them poorly. read more

my biased rating is based on the fact that i care about what i eat. most people don't care, so if you don't care about what you eat, go to the next review there isn't too much to choose from if you're a vegetarian. so this isn't the reason for my negative review. the one star is from ordering the vegetable plate, and getting pork in my greens and pork in my potato salad i don't eat pork, or cow, or dog. i might try cat. i don't eat crawly things or things with two eyes. so i had to pick through my greens one leaf at a time to get the pork off. no sense in wasting good greens. but i sent the potato salad back. i was a little afraid that the cole slaw would have pork in it. the fries were ok, and i didn't notice that they tasted like fish. i'm guessing they used a separate fryer so that's it. i'm not obese, and i'm not going to be obese. but you can go ahead and eat there if you want ================================================ reading the other reviews reminded me that we also had a long wait time (sunday noon). and then we had to wait longer because we weren't at the station when they called our name; we were sitting outside. this is the reason for many of the negative reviews, however, did not even factor into mine read more

A wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch, or supper. Only open till 3pm, but they do serve entrees. Service is wonderful, waitress is friendly and helpful when trying to decide what to get. The place was overly crowded on a Sunday around 10:30am and very noisy, but the food was wonderful and worth the wait. All the locals know about this place, so come prepared to wait a few.
