The entire process was explained prior to beginning to manage expectations via an initial consultation. This was not only informative, but also educational as my hair type and challenges were discussed. The salon suite was spacious with a reception area, styling stations and wash area. After looking for a place to get ~4-5 inches chopped off, I found Twisted Elegance Salon! You'll find it within the Amsterdam Walk plaza shops and inside the Beya Salon Studios, which houses 27 different salons. As with most plazas, parking can be a bit hectic and full. If you arrive during the weekday in the mid-afternoon hours, just be wary there might be a bit more traffic, since an elementary school is located in the same area. If you're not familiar with Beya, they lease out spaces for salon professionals with different styles and skills. So, what you get is a small, intimate space with literally, just you and your stylist, and maybe just one more customer + their respective stylist. I absolutely love the concept and wish I had stumbled upon this place sooner! Whether you're looking for a weave, facial, someone to wax those eyebrows, or anything as typical as a cut/dye/style, you'll definitely find it at Beya. Back to TES: Atala (not sure of the spelling, but emphasis on the first A) and Eric are the main two people. Both of them are extremely nice and welcoming. Just call and make an appointment; they really try to work with your schedule. I got Eric and was extremely satisfied with my haircut; I asked for 5 inches cut off and layers. Typically, when I tell someone to cut a specific length, they usually overestimate, but Eric really took my request seriously and cut exactly what I asked. And just as a reference, my hair is long--just to my lower back. My visit began with a shampoo & conditioner wash as well as a peppermint mask that was massaged in my hair and let set for about 5 minutes. The mask was my favorite, because it felt so refreshing and relaxing, and I could definitely tell a difference to the sheen and softness to my hair at the end. After the haircut, Eric blow-dried my hair out meticulously, which I appreciated because even after the cut, I still had a lot of it left. I spent a total of 1.5 hours in the salon just talking with him while he did his thing, everything about restaurant recommendations in Savannah, GA all the way to the Vampire Diaries (our slightly shameful guilty pleasure at the moment). The 2 clients that Atala was working on received gorgeous results. I do remember that one of the ladies was African American and asked for a keratin treatment, although I am not sure what else she was receiving. Anyhow, her hair was fabulous! The keratin produce used stripped all color from my dark hair and turned it bright Orange,, the exact color of a pumpkin. The next day I had to go to my regular colorist to try to restore my old color. After new color and two glaze treatments, I'm told it will take a year to grow out this pumpkin color. Ive called the keratin company and they told me it was the fault of Twisted Elegance and how the product should have been diluted to avoid the color stripping. I absolutely loathe going to hair appointments, so a 5-star salon rating really says something coming from me. I recently had an appointment with Eric to even out my growing-out color and get a trim. The salon is tiny, but I can appreciate the concept of the Beya lease spaces for salon owners. It's nice that there's a parking lot in front so you don't have to worry about finding a spot or paying for parking. Even though the salon had double booked him and I had to "take turns" with another girl who arrived after me, Eric was efficient and managed the situation well. Eric was pleasant to chat with without being overly chatty and he has a fun taste in music for the background playlist. I am pleased with my cut and color (more maintenance than drastic change), and I appreciate how he explained the products he used to me. He understands the difference between a trim and a cut when you're trying to grow your hair out and want to make it look healthier, yet take off as little length as possible. There was no hassle with using the Groupon I'd purchased and he didn't charge me extra for a "long hair fee" like many salons do. He also didn't try to sell me products, which I appreciate after going to many other stylists who make the hard sell and pass hair judgement unnecessarily. read more

I take time off work to get to my appointment telling her I'll be a little late a day before, when I get there she says I can't take you! When I try to to explain that there is literally no way to find your place, you didn't even answer your call, had the audacity to say 'not even gona be nice to you, will call security'. I went for a Keratin treatment a few months ago and was convinced to do an additional treatment for my cowlicks. This cost additional money and then resulted in a small portion of my hair around my crown to be burnt off to my scalp. I went to this place to get a haircut after reading good reviews on Groupon and yelp. It was a huge disappointment. I don't know if it was because I was using a Groupon or if the hair-stylist was having a bad day but neither is good enough reason to not give customer a good service. The stylist (a young girl) literally shampooed and conditioned my hair in half a minute. After that she just asked me how many inches of hair do I want to cut off and did not ask any other questions and just started cutting the hair. By this time I had lost interest and told her to just trim the layers I already had. She did a bad job at blow drying the hair too. The groupon mentioned deep conditioning which was never done. The stylist did not smile even once during the appointment or say thank you when given tip (BTW I tipped on the full price to drive home a point) At the end of the appointment she tried to sell me keratin treatment at a discounted price.. I wouldn't go to this place even if they give me a service for free.. My friend was also planning to use a groupon but after my bad experience she has wisely decided against it. If the business does not want to treat the Groupon customers well just stop posting the Groupon, there are plenty of other salons which do not discriminate against their groupon customers and this is how they earn customer's loyalty. read more

Also the place is impossible to find. It is inside another salon! With NO sign out front. That is the kind of thing you tell a person. I just got a Keratin done with Atallah and it turned out wonderful. It is the same quality if not better than what I used to get at Van Michael for 4 times the price. My stylist got me out the salon before my cut-off time which was huge. Usually whenever I set a time limit I have to leave by, I am never out of the salon by that time. The only thing that kind of bothered me was the other hairstylist (not sure what her name is) who seemed kind of rude, so I wouldn't try booking an appointment with her unless she's famous for giving amazing cuts. My sister recommended this salon a few times now. She has straight hair and gets it cut and colored and it always looks amazing. WORST HAIRCUT AND HAIRCUT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! And a horrible Attitude!!!! I am a veryyyyyy friendly person!!! She was not. Bot even a smile saying hello. She said she would be back in 25-30 minutes to wash out my hair dye color .. she casually strolled in at the 54 minute mark talking on the phone with my scalp on fire and me worried about the damage being done from hair dye being left on too long * She then said she knew me I assured her she did not. She was supposed to give a deep condition but I didn't mention it because I just wanted her done. Fastest cut of my life. Straight across !!! I asked for layers. She added some 10 second framing Around my face at the end. I of course didn't mention because I didn't want to upset someone who already had an attitude that was working on my hair.
