I was in need for some Mead. Twisted Horn came to mind since I came across it on Eventbrite on different occasions. Honestly, it was kind of tricky locating it based on my GPS but I found it. There was no problems with parking which was great. As compared to the outside, inside was a very pleasant surprise. I loved the decor and Nordic/Viking vibes. This place is a gem. Very clean and organized, a cool Nordic vibe and they have a ton of board and cards games to play with friends, and trivia night. Their flights have number tags by the glasses, and you order cider by number. The meads and ciders are really good quality, the flavors are complex and not overly sweet. Everything they have tends to be on the more mild/sweeter side. Nothing was bitter like beer. This establishment is located in a business park, which is unusual enough, but it gets stranger as you walk in and head to the back to find limited seating and unapproachable, unwelcoming staff. The individuals there seemed peculiar and lacked energy. Ignoring these factors, we decided to try their recommended selections and pick a game from the shelf. I was surprised to find that still mead wasn't available; instead, all their meads were carbonated like their ciders. Being accustomed to more traditional mead, I was disappointed that none of them had a noticeable honey flavor. It felt like they were primarily selling ciders, with a few having subtle mead-like notes. I wouldn't recommend this place. There are better options with greater variety in Temecula, and it's definitely worth the drive if you're coming from Oceanside like we were. read more

We love this place! It has a wonderful cozy tavern feel to it with chandeliers, large bench tables, and plenty of free parking. We came here for the mead and cider which was great. I also opted for their homemade blackberry soda (not too sweet and very refreshing!), a wonderful option for anyone who prefers non-alcoholic drinks occasionally and great to have rather than the usual water and sodas that you often find. We typically stop by when they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. The bands are a perfect fit for the space and music is kept at a reasonable volume so you can have a conversation and play board games. They also have several board games to choose from if you don't bring your own and there's a standing Dungeons & Dragons game night on Wednesdays. The service is good and we always get our food and drinks quickly. This is a great spot for board game lovers in North County and I'm glad we found it! Twisted Horn has been on my list a very long time. I first tried their stuff at the Viking Festival and really liked it! My friend and I decided to come here yesterday as she had never tried mead before. We decided to each get a flight so that we could try all of 1their different flavors of mead. My favorites were the Raz-R Edge, Shadow Legion and Toby's Tale. I tend to go for more tarte and fruity meads. The Raz-R had amazing raspberry flavors with a mint finished. This was the perfect combination in my opinion. Shadow Legion is made of lemon and Basil. Very refreshing! Toby's Tale has cherry flavors. I also tried one of their ideas, the Solsteinn which was amazing! I loved the hibiscus and guava flavors in this. Will I be back? Absolutely! Next time I will be focusing on their ciders given that I've now tried all of the mead option that were available. We were told that there is live music on Fridays and Saturdays. We love this place. It has a great selection of mead and cider and the atmosphere is enchanting, incredible actually. They have entertainment and trivia nights and you could spend hours there. They also have non-alcoholic on tap. The owner is a dog-lover and offers doggie treats with permission from the parents. Truly a unique cidery/meadery. This place has a Norwegian feel to it with essence of Vikings. You feel like you stepped into another world when you enter this location. The walls are wood with wood beams. The lights consist of Viking helmets. A fireplace exist inside. And you can drink out of horns. On some days there is entertainment: like storytelling. As for the drinks: there's a good number of them to try. The ciders and meads tend to be on the sweeter side. I did find a pear cider that was dryer than most. The reason to visit is because of the really cool viking theme. One side of the room is outdoor druid forest where the other parts feel like you're in a nordic mess hall. I almost tried all the flavors of mead now. This is one of the best mead and cider places in San Diego if not in the USA. It's outstanding. I don't need to talk about all the flavors because 99% of them I loved. My favorites so far are Witless, Wyzen Elder, Blue Cloak...but truly enjoy all the flavors. Growlers cost $17-$20 if you bring an old one in for exchange or $20-23 for new growler. One growler pours approx. five 8 oz cup/glasses. The drinks show in the bottles are their limited edition specialty brews. My first visits were during Covid times. You can now make a reservation to drink inside. If you walk in with a small party, they will accomodate you if possible as there is limited spread out seating. We tried a flight of 4 for $8. read more

We came here in between our scheduled events as a recommendation by one of our friends. They really like me, and I had never had it. So, I was looking forward to it! This place has such a fun, Viking theme. It was rustic and felt like I was in a movie! They also had a bunch of board games on the side you can play. They apparently used to let you drink out of a horn before covid, not sure if they allow it now. I ended up getting a flight to split with my friends. We got Freyja's obsession (Vanilla strawberry), Toby's tale (cherry), Solsteinn (guava) and Wyld Fest (lingonberry). I personally don't really like beer or hard ciders, so I came here with an open mind. We got a recommendation for all the flavors from the bartender. I personally really liked the lingonberry one - Wlyd Fest. It was sweet and had a unique taste to it. It wasn't bitter and did not have a funny aftertaste. The rest I did not like, personally. Loved the place. The decor is terrific, the energy is great, and the staff was good. By the way, some customers dress up here, like Vikings and pirates and what-not. Seriously. You don't have to dress up but you'll see some folks who do. Role playing is not for me personally but it does add to the fun. The ciders were good and the mead was good. I was looking for a little more honey flavor in the meads but there was none to be found (at least as far as I could tell). But overall, no complaints. I think I tried about 6 different meads (taster sizes). There was only one I didn't like. As others have observed, their rising popularity means that they've outgrown their size. That's a good problem for any business but it means you might be wanting for a table. Fair warning. They bring in music and food trucks so check their schedule online and plan accordingly. Addressing the whining of some reviewers, yes, they are kid friendly. There offer about 50 board games (really) for anyone's use and I did see kids and even babies there. You may not like kids in a bar (of sorts) but it's legal and they are there so get over yourselves. Most people have no problem with it. The place is very fun. If they just got a tad more honey flavor out of that mead, I'd be over the moon for them. read more

My friend and I stopped by here since we were in the area for another event earlier in the day. This meadery was at the end of a cul-de-sac in a business park like many craft breweries. The interior was really neat with an animal horn/Viking theme for the decor. There were a couple of picnic tables off to the side along with a corner shelf containing numerous board and card games. The place was dog friendly as you could bring your leashed pup inside as we did while seated at the bar. Not being much of a drinker, we ordered a couple of flights of 2 oz tasters. The first flight was four meads (Loki's Prank, Simon's Journey, Blue Cloak, Blushing Maiden) and the second flight was four ciders (Draco, Mischief Maker, Hidden Stones, Midnight Sun). I also got a Bent Branch root beer soda as a non-alcoholic buffer. My favorite mead was the Simon's Journey which was a mix of orange blossom honey, fresh strawberry and kiwi. My favorite cider was the Hidden Stones which was a full sweet cider with fresh peach flavor and spicy and ginger root. The $7 price for a flight was very reasonable. It was cool that they put a number tag in front of each taster so you could look back at the menu and identify the name and components of each drink you were tasting. Street Chef was the food truck outside in the parking lot on this Saturday, but there's a rotation of vendors which are kept track on a chalkboard behind the bar. This is a great place I keep finding myself going back to. The theme is full-on. I'm not into it, but I can appreciate doing a theme well in a classy way. I'm not a mead person, but I do love hard cider! They have a great variety of cider (and meads). Their menu has new choices, while keeping many they had before. So it's fun to come in and try some new choices, but still have most of the usual ones I know I love. My husband & I share two tastings. Because of that, and to not double up on ciders, we have a mead or 2 in there. As I said, we're not fans of mead, but it's nice to try just a tasting of a couple... and that has opened up my mind! It was about 90 minutes before closing on a Sunday night and perfectly quiet so a dear friend and I could catch up! Their mead and cider list is pretty extensive and the staff was super friendly. One of my absolute favorite places and I count myself lucky that they're conveniently located in North County San Diego! Spectacular ciders and meads - 16 taps, usually all full and 1 nitro line now. Super fun themed decoration - the inside looks like a Viking hall, complete with wood walls and rustic tables (a few wood picnic tables and some higher tables with epoxy coated wood slab tops). Tons of games to play. They have a regular rotation of food trucks out front and often have live music inside as well. They also do a regular D&D game during the week and have some craft classes and other activities you can sign up for periodically. I've done a chain mail jewelry making class there in the past (it was great)! Unfortunately I missed the signup to make Christmas ornaments for last night, but it looked like the class had a great time and sold out quickly. There's always something fun happening here and I love it. Ended up there with a party of 8 last night and ordered TWO Flights of the Valkyries (2 oz. tasting pours of everything on tap, plus the nitro line) and a ridiculous amount of "Stacks of Meat" from Up in Smoke BBQ. It was a great night. You can't go wrong with their drinks, but I am a particular fan of Mischief Maker (their original/classic apple cider) and Blue Cloak (blueberry) mead. I'm a big fan of mead and I usually drink mead at Golden Coast Mead in Oceanside but I heard about Twisted Horn at Golden Coast. So I finally made it there and wow this place was very busy for a Sunday. I really didn't know what to expect but I didn't check them out before I came and everything seemed cool. So they have mead and cider plus they have flights of honey which I didn't get but wanted to. Anyway, the mead was great, the employees were good, the location was a little small but it worked out. The bar is a good size and they have several tables on the sides of the building which is good for small groups. I wish I lived closer because I would love to come here more often because the mead was good and I would like to try their cider plus the honey flights. read more
