First, the disclaimer: I am writing this review on a sugar high. A really, really good one. That being said...this was out first time to Twister. First impressions are important, and Twister seems to get that. Inside is well-lit, signage large and easy to read, and display cases labeled well and well-stock with a huge selection. And, perhaps even more importantly, good service. When we went in, there was only a solo man working there--was after 10am, so probably after the rush. He was doing something in the baking area behind the counter, and called out to us that he'd be right with us. A very small thing, but important...he acknowledged we were there. And the wait was maybe 30 seconds. But he was very nice, helpful, and patient (we were ordering for us plus the 4 kiddos). They have something for everyone. I'm a fritter fan, and got a pumpkin and blueberry. Both very good...though I'm not done with the blueberry yet, because the things are ENORMOUS. Thus the sugar high. Again, was our first time. A large selection of tasty, quirky donuts. They're not quite as bizarre as the likes of Voodoo Donuts in their creations, but offer a selection not often seen at other places. In particular, they feature almost every kind of fritter imaginable. We found most of the choices to be great, and some simply amazing. A few fell a bit flat (some of the filled donuts had hardly and filling, the fritters had not enough fruit), but nothing too bad. The only reason this didn't make it to 5 stars was the customer service. When faced with a wall of dozens of donuts, trying to pick your varieties is a daunting task. Our help seemed to have a "well, hurry up, you're holding up the line" type of attitude that made it a bit unpleasant. Overall, though, a great experience, and we will definitely return. read more

My previous review I think was a pretty good one...well, I'm changing that. I have been raving about this place to my friends, especially about their bacon maple apple fritters, how moist the inside of the fritter was and awesome with the bacon maple on top. I no longer come to the Olympia area on a regular basis, but came back last week, so I promised people to get some. I went my first day in the area to just get myself one and a bunch of other donuts for the group. I was disappointed that the bacon on the apple fritters were just small strips, not the bits, and the fritter was just mediocre. I didn't pay much attention to pricing since I got a bunch. Although it wasn't the greatest fritter, my friends asked me to bring some back anyway. I went back the next day.....the bacon was bits!! what? why the difference? I went to pay...wow, $4 a fritter!!?? ok, it was $3.99/each. the most expensive donut in Seattle I've had doesn't even cost that much. And it definitely wasn't the best ever. Like I said I don't come down here as much as I used to. I don't think that if I do, the chances of coming back here aren't that great. read more

I was told that the maple bacon bars are by far the most delicious sugary treat I could ever eat. Boy, was my friend wrong, and I think she needs to new taste buds. Number one, the donut itself was dry. Second, the "maple" icing just tasted like standard icing with a small hint of maple. And lastly...if you are going to make a BACON maple bar...use real bacon. Like chunks of real bacon. Not the stuff you get off the shelf a the grocery store that you toss on your salads. Nasty. I make my own maple bacon bars that are to die for. The only two thing I enjoyed here were the ham and cheese donut and a bacon maple bar. Hortible fattening unhealthy and honestly good! The fitters are awful the strawberry ones taste "red" blueberry " blue" They have no real fruit! The coffee as well tasted like " the color" not the flavor of coffee So if you could care less about sodium, fat, preservatives sugar gluten and your good doctors advice. My pet peeve with them is their service or lack thereof, we are having our sons wedding coming up and they wanted a donut arrangement, they never answered the phone and this for weeks, so now 2 days before we have to order with them at the store..... Not so cool. Their donuts are outstanding, my son ordered the bacon, maple donut and loved it. I found it quite a gamble to do that kind of donut, yet it's paying off, because I witnessed it how different customers ordered that. I went here twice last week. Once late in the evening and once early in the morning. I got fantastic customer service during the evening and the restaurant was quite clean. The gal at the register was very helpful, friendly, and was happy to answer all of my questions about the doughnuts since very few doughnuts in the case were labeled. The banana-cream filed doughnut I got was very good. The second time I went was very early in the morning. I got a glazed doughnut and a child's 7-doughnut hole plus drink combination. The total cost was $3. I was quite impressed. We used the drive-thru and it saved quite a bit of time. My daughter only ate the 3 pink doughnut holes and my husband ended up eating the other 4. I totally agree with what some of the other reviewers have said about the swivel chairs. I'm 9 months pregnant. I'm lucky enough to still fit between the chair and the table, but it would be much nicer to have small tables with non-attached chairs. I really want this place to be good, but it just isn't for me. The raised donuts just taste stale every single time I try them. Doesn't matter if it was 6 am when I picked up on my way to farmers market for my assistants or if it was in the afternoon when I expect them to be stale. In desperation I tried the puffies. I will say my only complaint I went there and got a half dozen and 3 fancy's the total came to $15 or $16. Heard great things about Twisted Donuts and despite heavy traffic made a trip to Olympia. They had donuts in their cases with the doors locked and lights turned off before 5:15pm. Online they are supposed to close at 9pm and on their door is 6pm. On top of everything the employees didn't leave a note on the door informing future customers the reason behind the locked the doors. read more

Hadn't been there in a few years. Been craving their bacon maple bars, so stopped in today. Picked up a couple of them, as well as a lemon and pineapple fritter. Will certainly not be going back anytime soon. They used a maple frosting that was very light in color, and had no flavor. The bacon bits were very chewy, almost stale like. The fritters. I think they way they make them is to take a can of pineapple and wave across the the dough as they are frying them, same with the lemon ones, Very little taste, Was hard to tell the difference between them. I had heard from a friend who was up from California that this place was good, and that we had to try the bacon maple bars... I admit of being a bit of a donut nut, and decided I had to try this place. First my only true complaint: My wife and I were in a hurry to be someplace, so when we saw they had a drive thru, we thought it would be faster. We ordered a half dozen, one maple bacon, two fritters (rasberry and blueberry... they were out of the advertised guava, and one other flavor posted), one devils food, an old fashioned, and one other one. Plus two chocolate milks. What we got was: two bacon maple bars, two blueberry fritters, two devils food, an old fashioned, and a random rasberry filled we didn't even ask for... and no milks. She didn't charge us for the milks, and we didn't have time to fix it all, so we just went with it. So we weren't to excited about the service... but we are only human... As for the donuts: They were really good. I wish the bacon was a little crispier on the maple bars, but that is a personal preference. As I read from someone else's post, they are better than anything else in Olympia. The Fritters were very good. I just had the raspberry filled a day later, and it was good, but it could have had more filling. Overall, I enjoyed the donuts, and will be going back. read more

Bear claws are great, coffee is shit, the guy running the place will call you Sweety and laugh in your face if you ask a question he thinks is stupid (for example, what kind of cream is in the flauta? Which I would think is a fairly normal question, but you know, I'm a weirdo). I won't go back. The bear claws aren't so great that they offset the soft misogyny that stands for customer service in this place. PS - my roommate goes there all the time and he thinks I'm crazy, unsurprisingly he's never had a bad time in there.
