Local Take & "The Legend of the Two Broads": Purely through Serendipity and some good luck, did I find out about these amazing women & their creative bubbling ambrosia. As I was already primed & hyped from other good local more pedestrian Cider products, I was primed to try the Two Broads's lovely Kumquat Creation, with my initial lovely experience at Park 1039 in downtown SLO. It complemented the fine exotic Jamon Iberico & other gourmet goodies at Park. Jenna & Steve at Park, first told me the "Legend of the Two Broads". I think the legend involved these Amazonian Broads as having slain some of the many monsters of can't do, don't know, usual stereotypes, and via Megatons of extreme hard work, smarts, & feats of super-human strength [ Yes, I later witnessed one of them lifting a barrel...while exclaiming, "Who needs forklifts?" JK :) ]. So... already filled with proper respect, one fine sunny Central Coast Saturday, I decided to attempt to negotiate the byzantine maze, that could be filled with all sorts of mythic hazards, in order to find out more about the Legend & of course, beg for more ambrosia. We somehow survived the maze of serpentine back streets, even without the magic of GPS, and found a beckoning & inviting open door, with a small sign on a tiny table, with a flower on top. We stepped out among the maze of warehouses & all was quiet. Then someone popped out with obvious joy. We were welcomed by Maggie, who greeted us with a gusto, as I related my quest for fermented wonderment. Miraculously, she gave me & my spouse not only a illuminating tour of her domain, but went into lots of fascinating details, as I also have dabble in brewing [& other DIY creations, such as Natto, Probiotic Pickling, & Cidermaking] and knew a bit of the Chemistry & Science behind it all. We discussed everything from Cogeners, to their Ice-wine like creation, to secondary fermentation. My inner Nerd was quite pleased. I loved that they used the heavy imported Oak barrels and was awed at the super-human strength that they had. The fruits of their labor of love, was not only the ever changing exotic brews, but the evolving future tasting room & more. So in this case, the legend was based mostly on reality! I then asked for what she recommended that I try, since I do like things on the citrus or less dry side, & she recommended some. I then bought a nice six-pack of various creations, along with more Kumquat. I also found out that not only do they pair their creations with other goodies [ranging from local pastries to Park 1039 treats for a nice pick up brunch or picnic] for take out on weekends, but also donate some of their profits to different worthy charities every month. What two person start up does that? None that I know of... It is not often that one's Super-ego, ego, and even id are all pleased at the same time! About a week after we visited, I gave a call to Maggie & gave her some feedback on what I enjoyed and we had another nice chat. I have also set up email and follow their progress & adventures with both brews and their place. They also do a marvelous job on their website. While I like Bristol's and more pedestrian Ciders from See Canyon, Two Broads Ciders are in a local league of their own, bursting with enthusiastic magical creativity. They are just darn delicious & more than a bit addictive. It is the taste that is addictive. I also find that the size of the bottles are just right for me and I also love the creative artistic labels & names. Regardless of how you get your Two Broads Cider fix, you will most likely find at least one of their creations quite amazing. You will never go back to boring generic supermarket pseudo-ciders where service is generally impersonal & the products are not lightly to be fresh, local, and oh so creatively delightful! Later, on my next visit to Park 1039, I related my wonderful visit to these Legends, and thanked them for introducing me to their ambrosia. It is also great that at least these local start ups somehow are not only cooperatively surviving these challenging times, but do so with joyful friendly personalized service. And remember, I can attest to the veracity of the "Legend of the Two Broads"! Mahalo & Aloha!

Clean, fresh, nuance delicious cider. I love their flagships (like Kumquat May) as well as their unique Smöl Batch tasty treats. The label artwork is always on-point. The gals that own and operate this business are phenomenal humans that love and give back to their community. What more could you ask for? I can't wait til their tasting room opens!

One of the seating areas in the tasting room. There's more seating in front of the bar, plus a patio through the door

This is an incredible place, worth the special trip to a little industrial park on the outskirts of SLO and then some. I'll start with the cider - it's fantastic. Making good hard cider takes experience - you can use juice from a single variety of apple, but more often you're blending different kinds to achieve the balance that you want, and then using yeast to convert sugars to alcohol. The taste change that happens during that step is dramatic, and it takes experience to ensure a good outcome. So when you go to a cider bar and say, for example, "I'd like a taster of every single thing you have on tap," and every single one is good AND unique, you know you've found knowledgable brewers. If I had to pick a standout, it would be their frost cider, made by freezing the juice before fermenting to concentrate the sugars. I've never had anything like it. We immediately bought two bottles and I actually regret not buying more. We also liked a lot of their barrel-aged offerings (like the Arkansas Black), as well as their Yarlington Mill, one of the nicest single varietals I've tried. We also joined their club (quarterly shipments), which is something we almost never do - we've only done so at one winery prior to this. I will admit to having brewed very small amounts of hard cider before, so I maybe am a little more into it than the average bear, but I actually think a cider club makes a lot of sense - it's great for adding some welcome variety to the beer fridge. Beyond the cider though, the "two broads" that run it, Maggie and Morgan, are just the nicest, coolest people in the world. We kind of knew they would be when we pulled up to the tasting room and saw their tractor parked out front. Maggie was behind the bar when we came - she took great care of us (she was also really helpful over e-mail when we were planning our trip down from the Bay Area). We chatted with her about cider, but we also learned that they built a lot of the stuff in their tasting room themselves - they even hand-stenciled the floor! It's really a labor of love. I low-key want them to decorate my backyard. Maggie's friend stopped by with a puppy while we were there, and we pet the puppy and all just hung out together and had a lovely time. Also, the bartender at another brewery in town lit up when we mentioned we had been to Two Broads; said they were good people. The community endorsement is real. So yeah, five stars and then some - don't miss Two Broads Ciderworks!!

How time flies.....Its has been wonderful to see this location grow with the diversity of their offerings and the quality of their products. I am a traditionist with it comes to ciders so I like it dry and apply forward- but I branched out this time, at the suggestion of the employee, and was surprised to find out that I can enjoy mead and Kombucha just as much. At Apiary, they offered some non sweet mead and Kombucha drinks. The flavors of the offering were spot on and not fake tasting due to the natural ingredients. The Apiary is definitely worth a visit to kick back and relax with a good drink....

Given we were staying nearby by, we popped in for a drink or two! And I am glad we did! This cider house has really developed since we've been here last! If you like traditional British cider, then this is your place! If you fancy sweet cider like ACE, then you make want to skip this place! This place offers really dry ciders! Typical of what you will find in the UK! So the name of this cider house is appropriate! The cider are also strong: ciders range from 7-11 percent! Yes 11 percent: that's a good punch for a cider! All the ciders were great! We appreciate the bartender in letting us sample the ciders before getting our pints! The cider house also features music! During music nights the place fills up: so get there early for a good seat! The couch is super comfy! In summary: definitely worth the stop if you like dry cider!

The biggest selling point to me is that people said on Yelp that the ciders are not too sweet, and that's EXACTLY the case. I'm so use to every cider I have always being really sweet, but these are not, just really good flavor. There are multiple ciders on tap, each one having their own backstory. You might think, cider is cider, are the flavors really that different? But each one comes from a different varietal blend of apples and they're also brewed using different methods. There's a menu that tells you about the apples of each one. Each one has a different alcohol content, and they have very unique flavors. I highly recommend getting a sampler flight, then getting a glass of your favorite one. Just be careful, some of them are pretty strong haha so uber or have a designated driver. I also want to add, the bartender was extremely friendly and loved talking about the ciders, and the entire room has a nice whimsical ambiance. The bar has an old-english pub feel to it, and there's a stage in the back of the room that I guess they do music performances on. We came later in the day and had just missed the music, the bartender said that they do a community jam every week where people just bring their instruments and jam out. Sounds really fun! Oh yea, I also forgot to mention as we were about to leave some locals came in and we were talking to them for a bit. Super nice people, this place definitely curates a really welcoming environment great for both locals and out of towners alike. And parking is super easy, it has its own lot, and there's also plenty of street parking because it's located in an industrial cul-de-sac.
