My boyfriend and I drove up the Coast a few weeks ago for a small weekend getaway. Sort of a last minute trip, and we were kind of scrambling for things to do. Fast forward to our stop in San Luis Obispo, we did a quick Google Search on "things to do in Slo" and stumbled across SLO Cider Co. Not only did we think the word "cidery" was cool to say out-loud, but thought, "we've never been to a cidery before......let's see what it's all about!" I cannot begin to describe this place and it's ambiance. DELICIOUS ciders, the bartender who I regret not getting her name that night (she's pictured in the photo I attached!) was extremely welcoming and educated us about how SLO Cider Co. got its jumpstart. We had just missed the live band, but the tastings made up for it. The bartender was very knowledgeable about each individual cider and an expert on what ciders pair well with foods, snacks and other ciders (i.e blends). While all ciders tasted amazing, our top favorites were: * Lemon Ginger * Holiday Spice (the nutmeg flavor is *chef's kiss*!) * Tropical As a longtime cider fan, it's really refreshing to see this new trend of ciders not being considered a "weak drink", especially for guys. It's a craft that apparently goes through tons of labor, which adds some appreciation behind every sip. While we are bummed that SLO Cider Co. has not made it's way down to LA yet, we hope to visit soon and run into the wonderful bartender who made our experience here memorable. After a day of shopping, a good cider sounded good. We found this hidden gem that was open. It is relatively new, opened March 2020. It is small but has a front area to sit in or you can keep walking and go to the bar area. So glad we came here! Nate was awesome!! We did a flight of everything on tap to truly get a feel of what he had. As we tasted through we realized that he truly believes in the apples and the fruit because it comes through without being sweet. It is dry but not so dry that you lose the apples. Happened into SLO Cider yesterday and am happy to report that it was an amazing find. From the start, the crew made us feel welcome, so much so that we turned a quick drive-by into a 90-minute visit. We parked ourselves at the bar and chatted with Nate and Sean, all the while sipping a variety of delicious and diverse SLO-made ciders. They had about 10-12 different options on tap, and Nate and Sean offered us samples to see which we liked best. Sean was also quite the magician; he combined a number of flavors to create unique, off-the-menu treats. Can't say enough about what a warm and welcoming place SLO Cider is. Oh the flavors!!!! I love their varieties of ciders. You can order flights and be able to try why you want. The venue is very chill. The front room has a couple of pews to hang out on, then in the back is the tap room to hang out in with high top bars. Outside is a patio section with tables and chairs and a couple of cornhole sets. The weather in SLO is always amazing so we hung out outside. Found this place on a whim when googling dog friendly places in SLO and thought this place looked fun and chill. The location is really random, behind a residential area with no other establishments around to check out. All the parking spots were taken up, but street parking was nearby. There were about 16 people there total but no outdoor seating available. We had to sit inside, which is unfortunate because it was a beautiful day and better ambiance outside. They need more outdoor seating. Inside was dark and dismal, no one else was inside. The service was friendly and fast. We got the flight to try 5 different flavors. To be honest, I don't drink beer so take my review with a grain of salt, but my husband does drink beer. The ones we liked most were pineapple and rosé. Hated the oak (but I also dislike "woody" wines). The rest were decent. It was refreshing to drink on a hot day though. We did end up buying a few cans to take home to help support. Overall, I was expecting better ambiance and a place to enjoy hanging out but since no seating outside was available, it wasn't as fun and lively as I expected; it was pretty quiet and dead. If this place was in another location or had some outdoor games or music outside, it'd be more lively and fun. I do appreciate this place is dog friendly though! read more

Just left there sad and poor. They have generous pours for their tasters, but charge way too much money. I'd rather pay half the price and get less poured so I could choose what I wanted to drink next than $20 tasters with full little tulip glasses. I was double charged for the two extra tasters I asked for to get the full spectrum of ciders available. The charcuterie is a joke. $15 for a glorified Lunchables in a plastic box. For that price I would think I would at least get served on a plate if not a, I don't know, CHARCUTERIE BOARD. Also don't bother with the growlers. I didn't ask how big their growlers are because the industry standard is 64 oz, instead they give you 25oz "growlers" less than an industry crowler. They sell growlers for the same price as other industry growlers. It's a scam. Shame on you SLO Cider! I left feeling like I had been duped by a con man. I will never go back, which is sad because some of their ciders were tasty. From this place I went directly to Central Coast Brewery where their prices were a great price and the owners made me feel at home even though it was my first time. Perhaps the owners of SLO Ciders should go and see how to treat customers and price their drinks. I don't know what the owners of SLO Ciders are trying to accomplish, but they are doing it on the backs of the customers. read more

Flights were overpriced and over-poured at ~$1/oz ($20 flights). $15 Charcuterie I expected on a board but, I kid you not, came in a plastic package like it was in a child's lunchbox - truly zero-effort. The one employee on site who served us was great, but she can't offset the price-gouging this mediocre business is engaged in. I asked if they had growlers and crowlers and was advised they don't have crowlers, only growlers. What's the industry standard for crowlers? 32 oz. What's the industry standard for growlers? 64 oz. Relying on ethical business practices and fair pricing, I of course have no reason to suspect they've deviated from the 50+ other places I've done business with that called growlers 64 oz. It was all I could do not to laugh out loud when they brought two cider "GROWLERS" at $20 each that were under 26 ounces!!! Both growlers combined, adding up to $40, amounted to less than 51 ounces and don't even near a single 64 oz. growler! When I first saw how unoccupied they were on a Saturday evening I thought I'd found a hidden gem, but after only one visit I realize I've accidentally stepped on a turd. read more

Cider can be tricky - you can get super sweet, cloying tastes or the almost-lambic type sour tastes. Somehow SLO Cider has found a nice balance of interesting flavors that aren't crazy sweet - but instead bring out the dry, crispness of an actual apple. I loved their Tropical and Rose for something different when I did a tasting - a little sweet, but still crisp and dryer. The Hopped and Dry also have a great classic, dry flavor without being too inaccessible. The tasting rooms got a nice vibe. A seated area at the front with some chairs and short tables, then a more open area in the back with standing tables. Seems like a nice spot for an afternoon or post-work hangout. The fact that it's away from downtown also is a perk if you want to avoid that scene. read more

Attended the Morro Bay Margarita and Avocado Festival this weekend. First time trying SLO Cider and I am IN LOVE! Tried 4 ciders, Pineapple, Watermelon, Cider and Hazy Cider. My husband, oldest daughter and I stumbled upon SLO Cider this weekend in our quest for something to do during the horrific heatwave. We'd had some of their cider previously as we found it carried in Grocery Outlet, so we were happy to go and try some new varietals. The building is in a smaller business park, and the signs were helpful in guiding us - we weren't familiar with the area. It is truly a hidden gem! Honestly, we've been to plenty of tasting rooms, whether beer, wine or cider - and SLO Cider was by far one of the most welcoming and kind. We chose to do two flights, and in doing so were able to try everything they had on tap. My husband and I are working steadily to open our own cider business, and we were thrilled to try cider that is closer to what we hope ours will become. Many ciders we've had in the county either run the way of letting wild yeast have its way with the apples, creating something funky and far more similar to what you'd have in England, or they are incredibly sour, trying to mimic a lambic or sour beer. SLO Cider is a brand that honors the apple, as well as innovates with blending in order to arrive with brand new flavors that reach a wide population of people. There wasn't a cider in either flight that we didn't enjoy, and each one of us had our own favorites. We were especially impressed once we learned that the tasting room opened the very day the schools closed down for Covid-19 in the county...and we all know that business were soon to follow thereafter. It is a hard time to try and create a following, but the cider here speaks for itself. We joined their locals club, and look forward to supporting them for years to come. Love this place! They are very safe during COVID-19 and have a lovely outdoor area complete with umbrellas and heaters! Their tables are large enough for you to sit a safe distance away from other people - so it's a great place to meetup with friends while staying socially distant.
