First time experience and it was a big dissapointment To begin with the waiter acted like he was doing us a favor to serve our table of five. We arrived to a 6pm reservation and were promptly seated. The waiter came to our table, did not greet us or even offer to explain the menu. He was plain rude. We ordered cocktails and he wanted our entree choices. We wanted to begin with appetizers and he seemed bothered that we were not ready to order our entree. No bread was ever offered. Water refills were an issue, we would have to flag down the host for more water. The onion soup was tasteless, the pasta was soupy and bland. The grand marnier souffle was very good.The restaurant became full within and hour of our arrival, so they do have a following, but our experience was not worth the high final bill. read more

The mushroom risotto was bland and lacked flavor. The chicken was ok as it was tender and the skin crispy. I had high hopes for the grand marnier souffle and it just didn't happen. We stopped by Two Chefs on Dixie Highway for a drink during a pouring rain storm after lunch. We sat at the bar at had a nice Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet. It kept raining so I had to have dessert - the choices were soufflé, soufflé and soufflé - so I had a chocolate soufflé served with chocolate sauce and creme anglais. It was absolutely wonderful. I always heard great things about this restaurant so of course, it had to be visited ! I went there for a business lunch and took advantage of their Miami spice menu. You can tell the place has been there for a while; it looks a bit outdated yet it's very Clean and organized which is far more important to me than the looks of it . Place was busy as it can get for lunch hour and phone didn't stop ringing, that's probably why one of the chef owners was taking calls while doing the hostes business too. Food overall was ok on my opinion. The rissoto was good but the chicken was under cooked. Honestly, the best part was the soufflé; so soft and enjoyable! But what really gets it its 3 start review is the service. Waiter was totally indifferent and he seemed rather more concerned about us leaving soon so he could get other patrons on that table that making sure my boss and I were taking care of. This is a nice restaurant hidden in the middle of a somewhat tired strip center. The service is old style attentive, and quite serious. The menu is fairly short and features interesting twists on classic mostly French dishes. My Atlantic Salmon with Toasted Spaetzle, Basil Pesto, and Truffle Aioli was perfectly cooked as requested on the rare side. The Caesar Salad was great. The Escargot Pot Pie was just ok; very light on the snails and other fillings. They're known for their dessert soufflés, and my Grand Marnier soufflé was airy and really excellent. read more

Service was rushed, we came in at 9:30 and were pushed to order. We were asked multiple times for dessert because kitchen was closing and felt like they were rushing to get us to leave. My boyfriend took me there for Valentine's dinner. The place is very romantic, excellent service, BUT I wasn't really thrilled with my overpriced entree (the Seafood Asopao). It lacked flavor, salt, and the rice was too gooey. I also tried his which was the Veggie Risotto, it was slightly better but still didn't awe us. I don't mind eating at an overpriced place if the food is worth it, but in this case I thought it wasn't. Maybe I would give this place another chance, perhaps the food is better on a less busier night. The chocolate soufflé on the other hand was heaven. I highly recommend it. But I couldn't even eat half of the entree and didn't care to take it home. We both left there with mixed feelings about the place, especially after we saw how much he had to pay for food we couldn't even gulp down. My poor boyfriend!! I do love him for trying :) read more

Portions were good but the pasta way way overcooked and the sauce was more like oregano and a tomato. No rich italian flavors of garlic, olive oil and heavenly rich tomatoe sauce. Far from a value, but the service was good. I made a reservation via Resy to celebrate my mom's birthday. The day before the dinner, I received an email via Resy saying my reservation was canceled. I called the restaurant and was told that they are closed for a private party and that if I would've called to make the reservation I would've been told that information. The restaurant environment is good for adults to have a quiet dinner. The waiter is nice but his wine suggestion is a bit off the mark. We tried the Miami Spice Menu which essentially is pretty much the same as the regular menu except some of the dishes require additional nominal fees. For appetizers, the yellow fin tuna tartare comes with a generous proportion and a very flavorful sauce; but the baby back ribs miss the mark. It was tough and very hard to slice the meat off the bones with the provided knife. For main course, the shrimp & fettucine pasta is nicely seasoned. It comes with 7 good size fresh shrimps. The tuna steak is a bit disappointment. The four tuna steak slices were nicely arranged on the spaetzle. But the center is cold as if the steak was not properly defrosted so it was still a bit frozen in the center while on the grill. The spaetzle was salty. I washed it down with the wine. The soufflé deserts were the highlight of the meal. Both "grand marnier" and the "bitter sweet chocolate" versions were nice. I liked that the waiter left me the sauce so I can control how much I like to add them. Overall, it was just an "ok" meal. read more

Two Chefs is the best restaurant south of Coral Gables and can compete with the best in Miami. My family has been going to Two Chefs for as long as I can remember. It is like our kitchen away from home. No matter when I've gone, how busy they've been, etc. the food has always been consistently excellent. My Yelp review is long past due. When you walk in, you'll often find the owner/chef Jan standing at the entrance. This basically is the go to restaurant for locals, so he knows the customers who frequent the restaurant. Straight ahead is the bar and, if you're lucky, Juan will be the bartender. He's been there as long as I can remember and many people (like me) choose to sit at the bar for dinner because he provides excellent service and great conversation. Like all great bartenders, he knows when you want privacy and when you want to have a conversation. He gives great recommendations and pours some stiff drinks. An added bonus of sitting at the bar is that you get to see the food coming through the window for bar service. You'll notice that to the right there is a door leading to somewhere. That is the private party room, also where the cooking classes are taught. Occasionally that room also is opened for dinner when the restaurant is extremely busy. When you arrive you'll be served a half loaf of bread with olive oil to munch on while you peruse the menu. The menu changes weekly and is always outstanding. There always are Miami Spice menu options and, really, that's the best thing to choose. There are some staples that are always on the menu. For instance, the Caesar salad is always on the appetizer menu. The dressing is great and the salad is served in full, fresh romaine leaves. It comes with a large crouton and cheese crisp. There are always several different flavor of soufflés to choose from, including Grand Marnier and chocolate as usual suspects. Some of my favorite things (some on the menu and some as sides) are the Caesar salad, lobster bisque, tuna tartar appetizer, shrimp pizza, potato croquettes, golden beets, salmon, polenta cake and, of course, the Grand Marnier soufflé. In case I haven't made the point yet, you can't leave without having a soufflé. The Grand Marnier soufflé is my favorite but you really can't go wrong no matter which one you choose. Don't forget to pour the sauce all over it!!! The cooking classes also are stellar, and you learn some great tips like how they make the soufflés so soft and sweet in the center. Getting the recipe to make the soufflés at home alone makes the class price well worth it! Two Chefs is a hidden gem. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner there and for part of my bachelorette party I had a cooking party at Two Chefs. I was invited to a corporate event with about 25 members of the management team, we had a private room which was very nice. The service was excellent, the apps were wonderful, had the best salmon, I would not have tried it had it realized it was fried but it was delish, might have saved 10 apples all fried. I preferred to have had something healthy there. I had a grade salad which was great except the frozen green beans that I didn't care for. I ordered my steak med, it was over cooked and a little hard to cut or chew. Many had the same complaints. I wanted the grilled salmon instead but they couldn't serve it without the bacon. The chocolate soufley was perfect! I actually liked this place, here is the bad news when we came out, one of the Executives had his rental car broken into and they stoked his MacBook from the car. Our Seared Tuna Loin, was sent back because it was cooked medium! My meatloaf dinner was delicious. Mixed drinks were all very good, my cappuccino was good however, American coffee came out as weak as water! The waiters and another personal were professional, helpful and gracious and the atmosphere in the dining room was dark, sophisticated and comfortable. The restaurant is located off of Route one in South Miami and was convenient and easy to fine. I would go back and try the restaurant again to give a more definitive opinion. read more

First of all I have no idea why this has the ratings it has. I have been coming here for years and hadn't been since before COVID. I had missed it and wanted to go back. When I finished my meal tonight and came to yelp I was shocked at what I was reading. I know food and what I ate was outstanding and was no reflection of what was on here. I went with a party of 7 and spent 2 hours there. I had the 3 course meal for $48 with a $3 up charge on my last course. I started with the crab cake which was the best I have ever had, I cannot stand when a seafood dish is fishy and this was far from it. I then had the best meatloaf I have ever had with the creamiest mashed potato's. And to finish it off there "Grand Marnier" soufflé which is basically a vanilla soufflé with a hint of orange. I'm not a desert guy at all and I had the entire thing. I loved my experience and highly recommend it. The food may take a while because everything is homemade. Appreciate the experience and enjoy this local south Miami spot. read more

I think I traveled back in time to 1972. Or maybe this is typical of South Miami old-school restaurants. I thought I was on the set of the Sopranos in Jersey. Bar stocked with every liquor you can imagine; no beer in view. Dark wood, dark lighting, no loud music (yay!). Several dour-faced old guys but no female servers that I noticed. On second thought, that last part might not be Soprano-like. And this certainly isn't an Italian restaurant by any means. Anyway, Monday business dinner for ten, well handled by the staff, if completely without humor and without any hint of willingness to expound on the menu. Drinks: as I mentioned, the bar looks to hold every known liquor and they have quite a bit of wine, but no taps. When I asked about their beer selection, the response was unintelligible but I did pick up the word 'stella' and correctly surmised I could get a Stella Artois. They may have better beer, but I wouldn't know. God forbid you put it on the drink menu. The food menu: DO NOT come here if you're vegetarian. You will starve. But if you swing carnivorous, there's plenty to choose from. I went with the green salad and coq-a-vin. Both prepared well and with some thought, although the chicken might have been a little heavy on the bay leaf. Salad was actually excellent. The various other entrees at the table seemed quite interesting and the restaurant does pay attention to presentation. One thing: the waiter will ask you in - again - unintelligible English what type of souffle you want, but won't mention they take 30 minutes to prepare. A few of our group didn't pick up on that and thus were disappointed when dessert time came around. This would have been an excellent opportunity for the staff to engage in communication. I date night gone very well... when I walked in it seemed a little dark but as I sat down my eyes adjusted to the candle light.. we were greated immediately. we were told that the Miami spice menu was available. I then inquired what the menu was, extremely surprised by their answer.... the whole menu is available that put a huge smile on both our faces.. I had the chicken with risotto... absolutely amazing.. she also like her dish being the meatloaf. very hearty meals left us full and content but could not walk away with it trying all three of their soufflés... the chocolate being the best and neither of us like chocolate. great place!!! staff very attentive and nice. ZERO (0) Stars... AWFUL service. I WALKED OUT of this place. It was a random night last week (monday/tuesday?) and we were on our way home. Driving down US-1 with an appetite that would put a small circus to shame. We are in the mood for something new and start making our way down south. We pass our usual stops, like Stir Moon and Moon Thai, but decide to keep driving... As we are passing 67th Avenue, he sees Two Chefs from within a Plaza and says he's heard great things. "Do you want to stop?", he asks. "Sure, let's check it out. I can Yelp it!", I reply. We park and head on in. There is one table seated. I check my watch. It's only 8:00pm. Not too late. They can't be closing...? But yet, no one comes to seat us... We wait... 10 minutes have passed. Not another soul. Not an employee. We tentatively seat ourselves. I am STARVING at this point. I start imagine myself eating everything they have... We wait 5 more minutes and someone finally comes to the table to ask if we've been helped. Umm, EXCUSE ME, does it LOOK like we've been helped?!?! No water, No menus... UGH. He gives us menus with extreme attitude. We obviously must be in the wrong place. Are we in Kansas Toto?! At this point I dont even want the menu. I open it up and see some items that could have been quite tasty. They even have a Miami Spice menu. But, by now, my appetite is gone, along with our obnoxious server. I look at my love and tell him I'm over this place. He laughs. We get up and WE LEAVE. I just want Management to know that first off, you are NOT in South Beach and you are NOT a 5-Star Gourmet Restuarant servicing the Rich and Famous. 5 stars for the soufflé but unfortunately that is really the only thing to come for. Overall I thought the food was competent but nothing to write home about or that I would crave. While the dim candle lighting makes for a romantic experience, the ambiance otherwise is fairly bland. The service can be downright snail-like, and mostly, the food just isn't innovative or interesting enough to warrant the hefty price tag. The menu may change but really nothing is *that* out there in creativity. The meatballs with blue cheese custard came disturbingly cold inside, and seemed to lack much of the promised custard. However, the pasta was tasty and suffused with a nice smokiness that paired well with the meat and al dente pasta curls. Otherwise the dishes were entirely forgettable. The best choice is clearly their soufflés. Hands down, if you're coming to Two Chef's it needs to happen. read more

Reviews in "The Miami Herald," "The New Times," and on other sites such as Trip Advisor speak quite well of TWO CHEFS in South Miami, even if fellow Yelpers have panned the place. The restaurant itself has a small cooking school and a schedule of classes that seem to indicate other people enjoy the cooking here. And the cooking ain't all that bad, though some dishes are much better than others. If I lived in the culinary no-mans land of South Miami perhaps I would be more generous towards Two Chefs. But truth be told anyone living in South Miami is 10-15 minutes away from Coral Gables/Coconut Grove and just a touch more to downtown and then another 10-15 minutes from there to anything on South Beach. You don't have to settle for a restaurant just around the block just because you live in the neighborhood. This past Memorial Day weekend, Michelle and I drove to Two Chefs as we fled South Beach in search of something good but chillaxed. A friend spoke well of Two Chefs and it sounded like just the spot to investigate while the beach went up in flames. The strip mall location didn't bother me as much as other strip mall restaurant locations (e.g., Matsuri) and we found parking right in front on a busy night. We entered Two Chefs and my spirits immediately lifted -- almost every table was packed, in what is usually a sign of good food ahead. But as we sat down and took in the "safe"-sterile decor, the homogenous crowd of mostly middle-aged, hard-core sub-urbanites, and a loud, cafeteria-like din that made it hard to talk, my heart started to sink. Our waiter, an elderly gentleman arrived tepid verging on cold. He wasn't mean or unprofessional and overall was waiterly but I didn't care for him. Most of the other waiters appeared stamped from the same mold: older men devoid of joy, as if working on a factory floor with youthful dreams long forgotten. I surveyed the place again and wondered if my fellow Two Chefers might not have also abandoned some childhood dreams somewhere along the race to settle suburbia. I don't want to sound condescending it just looked like alot of potential fun and spice had been taken out of the place for no good reason. Amid sociological reflections, the appetizers arrived: we tried the lobster bisque, which was watery, and the chicken eggrolls, which I thought savory though Michelle categorized them as "something you could get anywhere." I was becoming sour with Two Chefs as we waited for the main dishes: a surf and turf consisting of duck and shrimp and a pork loin stuffed with spinach and tomatoes and just as I was expecting the worse, both dishes came and were actually quite OK. Heck OK, they were good, smacking of some culinary creativity, though Michelle would stick more to the "quite-OK" side of the scale. As we finished eating we noticed the restaurant emptying out and the clock had not struck 11:00 p.m. and we were closing the place down on a Friday night. Last time I tried making reservations at Prime 112 on South Beach they couldn't sit us until 11:30 p.m. but clearly we didn't want to be on South Beach and how refreshing that one of the supposedly better restaurants in South Miami wound down early. No one offered us dessert or coffee and as we exited into the serenely calm parking lot of the strip mall and looked around the mostly quite streets off of U.S. 1 we reflected on the nature of safety and security, agreeing that perhaps the truism had it right all along, the biggest risk is not risking. Would I go back to Two Chefs? Probably not. I didn't care for the ambiance, the crowd, nor the service though none of those elements were particularly bad. I really wanted to like the restaurant and perhaps find a new a place away from the hub-bub that had good food in a casually elegant environment, perchance a sub-urban Michael's? I give it three stars with reservations, mostly because I thought the food was good; Michelle gives it two stars but could be convinced to add another star even if she thought less of the food than I did. While for me Two Chefs is a drive in the wrong direction, for those living in South Miami there are options aplenty within an easy drive and no need to settle for just what is at hand. read more

3 of us went for dinner on Tuesday night at 7:45. The restaurant had 9 tables of patrons and 2 people at the bar. We were seated in the center of all the patrons then asked to be seated away from the central cluster of diners. Additional first impressions: the temperature in the restaurant was warm, it is very very dark and there is a paper placemat on top of the linen table cloth. We opted for only 1 Miami Spice meal and 2 entrées. Our waiter mentioned the half priced bottles of wine (Tuesday only) which was not clear from the wine list. This may have been an oversight on all three of us because we couldn't see the fine print on the menu without our spot light from our phones. They've adapted their regular menu to include most items for MS and some with additional charges to the $39 fixed MS price. The crab cake appetizer had a nice crunchy breading but the crab filling was stringy and mushy. The tarter sauce was very basic and placed on top of the cake. The large asparagus were very fresh but the ends were not cut off so the last inch or two was tough. The tuna was over seasoned and the hash mix did not pair at all. The bacon wrapped meatloaf was good and a large portion but the black bean BBQ sauce didn't have a hint of black beans. The mashed potatoes were very fresh but too much horseradish and was missing butter, cream, salt and pepper. The pork loin was mildly seasoned but very tender. The escargot bolognaise was a nice blend with large chunks of escargot but this was also mildly seasoned. The bitter sweet chocolate soufflé was very good; perfectly baked but the sauce was more sweet than bitter sweet for my taste. I'd go back for an after dinner drink and their soufflés. read more

This restaurant has always been a curiosity of mine -- it's generally known/believed to be one of the "top" fine dining restaurants in Miami, however I have never known anyone that has actually dined there. Always thought that was kind of interesting. So, my girlfriend and I dined there last night, with another couple. (Naturally, none in our group had ever dined there before.) So, in a nutshell, Two Chefs is more like a "top" fine dining restaurant, but for people that have not really dined much in cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Vancouver, let alone outside of North America. For the rest of us, it's only average -- nothing horribly wrong, but most things not exactly right, at least for fine dining. A few examples: my appetizer was listed as "Wedge Salad, Danish Blue Cheese, Grilled Smoked Pork" -- what I received was a wedge of not-quite-crisp iceberg lettuce, a thin blue cheese style dressing and a strip of very smoky (and tasty) bacon. Nothing bad, but not exactly what one would expect from this description, in a top fine dining restaurant. My entree was listed as "New York Strip Steak 'Au Poivre' Cognac, Truffled Potato Croquette," which I ordered medium-rare. What I received was a huge piece of steak (went end to end on the plate), but the steak was not really "au poive" - there were maybe 5-6 peppercorns in total and none actually crusted onto the meat, the steak was cooked medium (almost medium-well), the "Cognac" was more of a brown sauce - fine, but no cognac flavor. And the croquettes were like really good Tater Tots, but had negligible truffle flavor. Oh, and the steak knife was forgotten, though magically appeared, to my left, several minutes after the entree arrived. Again, nothing necessarily bad, but not exactly what one would expect from this description, in a top fine dining restaurant. Our server was professional and friendly, however as he delivered each of the four appetizers and entrees, he had to survey the table to see who ordered which dish. Kind of like the way they do at Chili's. Again, not necessarily bad, but not exactly what one would expect in a top fine dining restaurant. At the end, my conclusion is that this place was more like a casual theme restaurant (think Outback Steakhouse with a broader menu) all dressed up in fancy clothes (with fancy prices). For the dollar, there are plenty of better options in the area -- South Miami alone has 4-5 that I can think of immediately. read more

We were being seated and the bartender made a scene across the room and asked me and my wife to leave because my tattoos were showing. Such discrimination was horrible and he publicly embarrassed me loudly in front of the the other diners. Mediocre at best. We went for the Miami Spice menu and were sadly disappointed with the service and the food. It began when they moved us from our table after we sat down ordered drinks and were eating our bread. Then the food came and I ordered the meatloaf which was decent but nothing spectacular. I only ordered it because the waiter said it was a MUST HAVE. The meal ended with staring glares from the wait staff because our dinner guest were taking too long sipping the wine after the meal. We felt like uninvited guest who stayed too long. Overall experience was mediocre at best- food was so so. Not the expeience or flavors I expected. read more

We came here for Miami Spice on a Saturday night & I felt like we took a trip back in time to 1997. I had come with high expectations, after a friend of mine raved about this place last year. She had warned that the menu looked like no big deal, but that it was actually delicious. The food was ok, but like I said, the menu items are boring and there's nothing that thrilled me. The appetizers were way better than the entrees (Mushroom soup and crab cake). My entree (The chicken chop with risotto and shrimp) was bland. The texture was there, but it definitely needed some salt. The chicken has a crispy skin that was wonderful. My husband's dish (Two chef's meatloaf) was tasty but it was nothing spectacular, the mashed potatoes were bland, starchy and lumpy (seriously how do you mess up mashed potatoes) but it was nothing spectacular. The chocolate souffle was delicious, the hazelnut souffle tasted like egg. The service was awful. After we were done eating we sat there for about 15 minutes waiting for our plates to be cleared. Our waiter took our order and disappeared. I had to ask someone else for help. (Our waiter was bad, but the rest of the staff was friendly) Overall, this place was not worth the $110 tab. Have not been to Two Chefs since last year but their #MiamiSpice offerings certainly enticed me to take my clients there since I know the souffles are just superior, so this had to be a good bet. I tell you I was not disappointed. There were so many options on the menu that fell on the spice menu, a few with an upcharge but that was fine by me as it is hard as hell to have a lovely 3-course meal featuring a beautiful branzino for $51. What made me remember to write this review, my portion was large enough for me to have breakfast this morning - pretty damn amazing if you ask me. This was a true "Scrumpterou*" experience. It was my guests first time; their starters were the Caesar and I had the Leek Soup with Goat Cheese Chantilly and a Bread Stick; YUMMM! Our entrees: the Shrimp & Fettuccine Pasta, Roasted Tomatoes, Basil, Garlic was an enormous serving and loaded with shrimp; the Atlantic Salmon was beautifully presented Atlantic Salmon, Grilled Asparagus (beautiful huge, green stalks), Heirloom Tomatoes, topped with a Lemon Vinaigrette. With the exception of the pasta (again, did I say the serving was huge?) the sides were ample; my wood roasted Branzino came with fingerling potatoes and an onion confit. Okay, you are waiting to hear about the desert, right? Of course, all three of us had the souffles; two Bitter Sweet Chocolate Soufflé served with Chocolate Ganache and one "Grand Marnier" Soufflé, Orange Marmalade served with Crème Anglaise. The master "cooker? at Two Chefs is Jan Jorgensen, he just does not miss with this desert; in my book, he is the master of the Soufflé. One important point I want to make: despite the fact I had not been there this year, it was sooo comforting to walk-in, see the bartender (who I think has been there forever) and his face lights as I appear to be somewhat familiar. What's better, I know this man knows how to make a gimlet! If you follow me at all, you know that is my drink and I have been challenged; tell him what you want and that is exactly what you get. Gin Gimlet, straight up, very, very, very cold and on the dry side (no, not a Gibson, a GIMLET); YES!!! Thank you! Two Chefs has been in business since 1995. It has an amazing old world charm so if you looking for flash and glam and all that new stuff, keep it moving, this is comfort food at a different level. The Miami Spice menu offers 7 starters and 9 entrees; up charges can be $5-15 (New York Strip). You simply cannot beat the offerings here. I had heard great things about this restaurant and was invited by a friend to try it for lunch today. I was so moved by my terrible experience, I came directly back to my computer to write a review! Something I seldomly do. I tried the $22 pre fix lunch which includes: appetizer, main course and dessert. The appetizer was a Ahi Tuna Tartare, hand cut Potato Chips, Huancaina Sauce. There was so much sauce on the potatoes that I could barely taste the tuna. Aside from that, it was the best/mediocre part of the meal. Next came the Grilled Diver Scallops & Shrimp, Garden Greens. Sounds delicious right? Not so much. The scallop and jumbo shrimps come wrapped up in each other so the scallop was perfectly cooked, but the shrimp extremely overcooked. There were 2 large scallops and 2 large shrimp on a bed on lettuce. Although not a reflection on the food, the restaurant was sooo cold, 30 seconds after the food came out, it was cold. The souffle we decided to take to go because of the near freezing temperature and extremely slow service. When I get back to my desk to give it a try, it is 80% undercooked! Inedible! Two thumbs down!! Will never go there again and DO NOT recommend. read more
