For some reason they went with a sign that no one can read while driving up the road. What you do is go north on Freya and take a right into a small business park just after E Alki Ave. You'll see a friendly "open" sign as you drive in the park. That's the place. From the moment you arrive, it creates a tone that feels dark and somewhat sinister--almost like entering a secluded compound. That atmosphere aligns with the thieving octopus-pirate theme that appears sporadically throughout this aquarium-meets-coffee-house concept. Early on, it became clear that this business also doubles as the owners' home, where their family lives on-site. This was unexpected and, at times, uncomfortable. As a customer, it was difficult to tell which areas were intended for patrons versus private family space, especially with children running throughout the property. The overall experience felt like a hodgepodge--part coffee shop, part home, part commercial space--with a layout that seemed unfinished. During my visit with an acquaintance, we took our time trying to enjoy the aquarium. While it was often difficult to see the small sea creatures in the tanks, it was enjoyable when they did eventually peek out. One of the women working there even pointed out a creature that was tucked away and hidden from sight. At one point, while observing a tank and turning around in what appeared to be a small living-room area, a child suddenly ran behind me. I was startled and nearly twisted my ankle trying to stop myself from falling. Eventually, we made our way to the menu, which offered a few semi-unique flavor options. We both ordered drinks that included peppermint and what I believe was a birthday cake flavor--one created by the husband. We thought the concept of a family-created flavor was interesting and appreciated the creativity. Unfortunately, the drinks tasted a bit strange, and later both my acquaintance and I experienced stomach discomfort. It's unclear whether this was due to improperly steamed milk or possibly expired ingredients. I also used the bathroom during the visit, which felt unkempt and reminded me of a boys' locker room in an old school--dingy, dark, and not particularly welcoming. The final section of the aquarium was more engaging and enjoyable. This area featured deeper blues, fun lighting, and neon-colored fish, along with a variety of sea creatures that were genuinely interesting to observe. One important note: the owners should seriously consider adding signage regarding the presence of children. Throughout our visit, a young boy and girl were playing both indoors and outdoors, including in the parking area where cars were actively coming and going. As we were leaving, the boy--who appeared to be no older than nine--was left outside to watch his much younger sibling. She refused to stay within a safe perimeter, and understandably, he eventually stopped trying to control the situation. The little girl then ran underneath my acquaintance's truck, began playing with rocks, and started throwing them. Concerned for her safety, and with no parents present, I stepped in. I spoke with her, played briefly, and was able to take her hand and walk her back toward the entrance of the home/coffee shop. The brother nodded in thanks and attempted to take responsibility for her again. We ended up leaving quickly to prevent her from following us back into the driving area. Ultimately, this business feels like a work in progress. With a significant amount of care, inspiration, and hands-on improvement, it has the potential to become a great place. I genuinely hope updates are made in the near future, and I'd be open to returning to give it another try once those improvements are in place.

It was during Christmas break, Saturday December 27, 2025. The family including two children and two dogs gave the feel you were in their living room. The man and women were very amicable. There were 6 of us adults and we had two children with us as well. One is afraid of dogs but was mostly comforted to be able to sit on a stool at a high table by the front window. We ordered eight drinks which to my surprise only totaled 3x.xx some odd dollars. Others the same drinks cost upwards of more like $50.00?! I later checked my receipt to be sure all the drinks were on there? They were, to be honest, I am not sure if they will be successful with prices that low? Though it was a very welcome surprise for us especially that time of year. Also not sure every customer would be comfortable with the children and dogs. Our group was about 50/50 with it? We came after enjoying a couple hours at Chaos Arcade, which sadly, is closing. Otherwise, we are rarely to never in that area. Independent, local businesses struggle so if you not familiar with this one give em a try. Spread the word all you local to this area! Shout Out

Recently moved to CDA from the Puget Sound area and this was the 3rd saltwater/reef shop in the…read moreSpokane area I've visited. The quality of shops in Spokane leave much to be desired and this one is at the bottom of the list. Walking into the shop it just smells bad. Most likely due to the carpet that is probably well soaked with dirty tank water from doing water changes. That should be 'if' they do water changes. The smell is not from curing live rock as I've seen a user in another review suggest. The tanks are filthy. Every saltwater tank panel was covered in nasty cyano and algae. Live rock in each tank is COVERED in aptasia. Zero corals. Not a one. No way they could live in these systems any way so this shop really should reconsider changing the name. No coral reef here. The other issue with the place is that it's stuck in some long lost past decade. Any decent saltwater store knows what a skimmer is and how to use and sell them. I don't think I saw one for sale in this place. Maybe I missed that Coralife HOB SuperSkimer collecting dust on some bottom shelf somewhere. Who knows? I didn't see any sort of sump system making use of a skimmer or any modern filtration/water treatment. Every tank had a an old skool HOB Penguin type filter. When I asked if they keep frozen foods in the freezer, I was told they all frozen foods were garbage and pollute your tank. If that were true, it wouldn't make the tanks in this place look any worse than they already do. I was then asked to name one decent frozen food. Ok fish dude, here you go: Rod's Reef (they have a bunch of different kinds) Piscene Energetics (they make wide variety of foods for corals and fish) Nutramar Ova Ocean Nutrition just to name a few.... and don't forget about live/liquid foods by AlgaGen, Korallen-Zucht, Elos, Brightwell etc... I know about foods with gel binders as do many others and nothing wrong with educating and stocking non gel binder food. You can also rinse those foods before feeding and if your actually performing proper maintenance through water changes and using modern filtration techniques like oh say i dunno, a SKIMMER, then you will be just fine. I don't recall seeing any LED fixtures or modern reef lighting fixtures either. Again, zero corals, and zero inverts. No reef found here so how could you possibly trust this stores experience in setting up a reef tank or caring for saltwater livestock? As for the staff, they're not out of norm for the area when compared to the other 2 stores in the area that stock saltwater fish/equipment. Folks here just seem to be lazy and not care about their shops. If they do, it doesn't show. This is the second place I've walked into and the the owner is just sitting around watching TV or on their phone/computer while the store is left dirty, unorganized and the display tanks un-maintained and filled with aptasia and majano's. At another I was greeted by some young gal that came out the back room with the fresh smell of weed and cigarettes trailing behind her as she tried to find something I ordered and they had been trying to locate in their store for more than a week. It's hard to find things when your stoned sweetie, just saying... Someone who is serious about saltwater fish and corals could really blow these other stores out of the water should they decide to open a quality shop. You know what's really sad? The best saltwater fish and corals I've found in this area are at the Petco in CDA/Hayden. They even have a cool little frag tank setup with SPS, LPS and softies. I walk in and see a Potter's Angel, wrasses, and and other cool livestock and inverts in clean tanks. I talked to the guy Corry (sp?) that maintains the saltwater stuff there and he does a great job and has actually setup and maintained a personal reef tank. I noticed a previous reviewer that said this shop helped her figure out what was wrong with sick livestock she got from Petco. This is an issue no matter where you get your fish from. Everyone is buying from the same wholesalers. I've gotten sick fish from outstanding shops, its' a risk you take as illnesses don't always show up right away. You need to properly QT your fish before putting them in your display and observe them before you buy them to make sure they are eating properly and not showing signs of illness.
