I've debated on writing this review for months as I want to believe that what goes behind the…read morescenes in this shop is much better than what I had witnessed. I own many many reptiles and moved here and was in need of finding a reptile shop, and not a chain (petco/petsmart). The first few times I went I was quite impressed, got lots of feeders and plants. After about a month or so a younger guy was newly hired and seemed to be going fine, until the second or third time I saw him there, as well as the owner, I saw him completely disrespect leopard geckos. There was a girl sitting behind the desk watching him, which I believe to maybe be a friend or other coworker that I hadn't seen before, and the owner was talking to another customer. I watched in absolute disbelief the younger guy pick up multiple leopard geckos by their tail... which one tried to bite him and then he dropped it. If anybody knows anything about reptiles, let alone leopard geckos, the last thing you do is pick them up by their tail. He was smiling and showing the girl and the leopard geckos were squirming around freaking out, and holding them there for a good amount of time. That was the last time I was there because if they are okay with displaying that behavior in front of customers, I can only imagine what the animals endure behind closed doors....

For the past three weeks, I have visited the store every other day to check on a specific bunny named Ollie. I was informed he would be available for sale today, June 11th. During my visits, multiple employees instructed me to call at 9:00 AM this morning to place him on hold, as I would be at work. I followed these instructions exactly and called at 9:00 AM. However, I shortly received a call back from the manager, Laura, informing me that the bunny was being sold to a walk-in customer. Given that I followed the specific process outlined by your staff after weeks of persistent check-ins, I find this outcome very upsetting and unprofessional.

I told the cashier that I was vaccinated and she proceeded to tell me that I still had to wear a mask "for the safety of others" to which I said "I'm vaccinated. Have you read any of the statistics or publications related to vaccinated individuals?". She had no answer but as I left she made the snarky comment of "Enjoy your vaccine". I will never go back to this location and called the owner a few days later to cancel my account with him. He said he was doing it because they have a right to enforce a mask mandate. I told him, well, I have a right to never shop here again. If Wild Birds Unlimited cares about their brand, they need to ensure their locations abide by CDC guidelines as strictly as they did at the beginning of the pandemic when the masks started. This and other establishments were very quick to enforce the CDC mask mandate but now, I suppose, they can't "follow the science" because their politics doesn't allow it. Any establishment still enforcing a mask mandate is doing so for purely political means, not factual and scientific ones.

I've supported the Spokane Humane Society for years. Ever since that day when we fostered four…read morepuppies that were abandoned on the side of the road. Our experience with the organization has always been friendly and professional. They were very concerned about the safety of the puppies and, as we had been volunteers with them, they allowed us to foster for longer than four weeks to help the puppies trust people again. From that time on, we have fostered on and off for more than 12 years at least. I'm so grateful for this organization and how they care for the animals that Somehow end up at the Humane Society through no fault of their own.

I think that the potential for them to be good is lost in internecine battles. I was let loose as a foster which means that I was on the losing end. I fostered from August of 2025 until now, January 2026. I don't know why - I got a phone call on a shoddy cell from 'Kim' and I was expecting it. I *think* I'm going to be adopting a cat with colon cancer. But, I asked too many questions. What i experienced with SHS was this: The charity extends. And then it doesn't. I fostered a high maintenance cat. I'm still not sure if we'll see him again or not. But, according to the call from Kim (that I couldn't hear very well), this is all about some 'lab tests.' As a foster, I am giving my time, my love and my patience. If that's not appreciated, I'm glad that my SHS account page is no longer there. My major concern is for this cat. I have no idea if we'll see him again and, well, I think we need that cat, 'Zoe' but we call him 'Simon.' again. Hey, it's what it is. If SHS faults me, I've got tons of emails and texts that prove otherwise. But, right now, I am really wondering about Simon. So, my star value for Spokane Humane Society is based on one thing - it's about the animals. My experience indicates that this is NOT about the animals with SHS but they can always hire posters to refute me. So, you guys get a 1 from me. Honestly, if I could've given you a negative number, that would have been it. This is not about the ego of a foster coordinator. It's about the animals. Get a clue.

Most the reptiles and hamsters had little signs in their tanks that said "I went home for Christmas." There was one cat left in the adoption room and she looked so sad seeing another cat being adopted. I hope she got a home for Christmas because she was a beautiful calico. I went there to pick up cat food for my cat and ended up buying Christmas presents for my cat and my mom's cat. The lines were long but moved steadily. Overall, not a bad experience and I saw a woman pushing a duck in a baby carriage so that was wild.
