I used to go to the two niner a lot as a student and licensed pilot. It's a great airport diner - great burger, good fountain drinks, a decent view of the passing aircraft on the tarmac! It's actually where I was inspired to take up flying again when my dad visited the area and took me there for lunch as a surprise. The decor is cute - lots of planes hanging from the ceiling and aviation themed photos on the walls. In the summer it can be understandably very busy, so that's my only hangup. Fine if you're popping in on your own to sit at the bar for a burger, but you might end up waiting a while if you're in a group. read more

We are super lucky to have this restaurant in Petaluma. Such a great location and vibe with the small airplanes landing and taking off, and a really cooool 'diner vibe' for sure. And the food! Haven't been to two niner since it's been re open and was excited to give it a try. We arrived got seated after 10 mins ( which was no worry they told us there would be a wait) we sat down and waited but never got a hello or a be right with you. We waited and watched 2 tables that were sat after us get orders taken and even drinks. After 12 minutes or more of waiting and watching everyone else get served I had enough. This restaurant recently reopened. It was my first time here and I think got this place has potential. Pros: Plenty of parking with indoor and outdoor seating Lots of breakfast and lunch options Friendly staff AMAZING coffee! Room for improvement: I don't think that they were prepared for some many people in their reopening week. Orders were running late and tables who got there after us got their food first. It took about 40 minutes to get a table and about 30 minutes to get our food. The majority of my table enjoyed their food. Sadly my food order was not that great; they also didn't make it the way I requested. I will go back in a few months to try it again as I do think it has potential. read more

We did a morning fly-in to Petaluma Municipal airport (O69) for some $100 hamburger, or shall I say $100 breakfast to Two Niner Diner. It has been well recommended in the pilot community that this restaurant have good food, so we went ahead and flew in to try it out. Two Niner Diner is conveniently located at transient parking and spots are available close to the restaurant. Upon entering, Two Niner Diner has the same vibe as other restaurants located in an airport: aviation memorabilia and old diner charm abound. This is a medium sized restaurant with ample indoor seating as well as patio seats that have great views of planes landing and departing. In my typical breakfast routine, I ordered their Chicken Fried Steak. Wifey ordered some eggs benedict, and the kids ordered waffles and a Sandwich pancake (with eggs and bacon inside) accordingly. The food came just a few moments later. Wow. Okay I did not expect that. But wow, that is some serious delicious chicken fired steak! As a matter of fact, I could think none better than Two Niner Diner's chicken fried steak; that means a lot! The meat was generously seasoned and tender, and the crust was very crunchy. The gravy was savory and thick, just the way I liked it. The pancake sandwich was very innovative and it is just the way my son likes it: all the breakfast items rolled into one neat package. The pancake was very delicious. The waffles? Just as good as well. It has a good crunch on the outside and very fluffy inside. If there are any improvements, I would say it would be the eggs benedict. We wished the egg could be a tad more runny and the hollandaise sauce though felt made from scratch, its a little far off from your typical hollandaise taste. Also, I wished that they have hash though their potatoes are just as well seasoned. So pilots! I wholeheartedly recommend Two Niner Diner are one of your $100 hamburger (or breakfast) destination. I love going to see all the planes. The decor inside is very cool with all the pictures and everything. The pancakes and the coffee cake were not my favorite maybe just an off day. The service was very friendly. Maybe they need a busboy or some place we can put our plates when we are done no one cleared the table. read more

We got there around 10 AM on a Saturday morning and all the tables were full, but we ate at the counter. Service was so fast even though all the tables were full. This was my first time there and the food was pretty darn good a little on the pricey side, but it was worth it for the view and the decor. I think most people would consider this a dive, considering how small it is. It was too cold to sit outside, but would have loved to sit outside if it were warmer and observe planes, taking off and landing. I guess you can attest to the high rating since people were waiting out the door when we left. Portions were large so I was able to take half of mine home. They would constantly watch your drinks for refills. I wish I'd taken pictures of the food. I had the chicken fried steak and though it was good it's not as good as Oklahoma good. The potatoes were awesome and the eggs were cooked just right. The other order was a ham and cheese omelette with steak fries again the portion was very large and was able to take half of it home. The ham was cooked with a bit of a sear and gave it that flavor that was extra special. If we are in town again, we will definitely check this place out. read more

I'v been here a couple of times since they reopened with my brother and his 2 adult children for breakfast. The first time we came we ordered 2 of the Country Pilot which came with biscuits and gravy, Veggie Combo Omelette, and my brother ordered the Short Stack and asked to add bacon and an egg. Our server suggested he order the Pancake Sandwich as it was less expensive then how he was ordering it ($4.75 cheaper). It consisted of 2 pancakes, with an egg in the middle and bacon or sausage. He asked that the egg be put on top over easy. My brothers egg was not on top but in the middle between both pancakes and the yolk was harder than an over medium egg (he requested over easy). My niece enjoyed her Veggie Combo Omelette . My nephew and I enjoyed the Country Pilot except for the item we were really looking forward to, which was the biscuits and gravy. It was flavorless, super crumbly to the point of it being like eating a saltine cracker and it was just plain awful. You know it's bad when my nephew said "the biscuits in the army were better than these." Since this time we've order other items such as the Jone's Special, Denver Omelette, Sausage, Mushroom & Cheese Omelette, Flying Aces, Two Niner Benedict, and others. But we do stay away from the biscuits and gravy since it was not a good experience for two of us who like B&G. The mimosa's, and hot tea (they have an assortment of teas to choose from) and orange juice are good as well as the coffee which has been piping hot each time we go. They do not take reservations and this place is busy! Service is great! Also, their outdoor seating is dog friendly! And you can watch the planes fly in and out! read more

They have a wonderful menu and the food was excellent. The local airport setting is very unique and it's also on a lovely walking path. Went here this weekend this my husband and 1 1/2 year old. The food was delicious--highly recommend the eggs Benedict (with a little pinch of lemon recommended by the owner) and the coffee cake. My little guy LOVED looking at the planes! He's had a tough time sitting at the table and the planes were excellent entertainment for him. Added bonus--you can choose your mimosa flavor!! So glad to see they're open again. As a pilot this is a great place to get a burger or some breakfast. The chicken fried steak did not disappoint. My wife got a BLT on the gluten-free bread. She is allergic to the gluten. She was very pleased that the GF bread was good, at most restaurants it's not too tasty. My 2yr old daughter got the kids egg, bacon, potatoes with toast. She was only interested in the toast and throwing sugar packets. But I think she liked it. The service was great. Even got a complementary piece of coffee cake fresh out of the oven, it was delicious. My daughter loved it. LOL. We will be back. read more

Talk about a hidden gem. Lots of outdoor seating so you can watch planes land and take off at the airport right next door. No it's not too loud cause these are propeller planes not jets. Food was tasty, and even though I was too early for lunch and a couple ingredients were out for breakfast I was able to land on a breakfast burrito special. This place has SO much potential. The prices are much too high for the quality. They use small plastic to go containers for butter and syrup. Every single pancake order gets two plastic containers that go right in the trash after a single use. A cup of bad coffee was $4.50. They charge the customer a credit card fee- ask to remove it when using cash. Fruit cup $4.50, single pancake $5. We also got eggs Benedict and it was very sweet, to the point where we couldn't eat it $17.95. Service was great and parking was easy. Can't say we will be back. read more

We're happy this spot reopened! The food is great! Probably one of the best omelettes in Petaluma. Nice size breakfasts and lunches. Wish there was a choice between the potatoes they serve. No hash browns and I'm not a fan of hangar fries. No big deal though. The service is great! Very friendly and most of the staff is quick refilling your drink choice. So now a bit of constructive criticism...please stop reusing your ketchup bottles! They not only look old and grubby but twice now I had to ask for a different bottle because one was so sticky I couldn't stand to use it and one the ketchup had a rancid taste. It's hard to control the age of ketchup when you keep filling up the same bottles. Next maybe get smaller tables outside instead of the large ones so more people get to enjoy outdoor seating. Maybe square ones for 4 that can be put together for your larger groups?? I definitely recommend this restaurant and will continue to enjoy going to this cute little spot.
