Such a cute mom-and-pop shop in the cutest area of Hastings. The woman helping me was the absolute sweetest (possibly the owner?). She let me know this year they are celebrating 5 years.... So exciting. They also offer a great selection of candy and it was fun taking a walk down memory lane with all the nostalgic treats from childhood. And the smell when you walk in... talk about popcorn heaven! They have different sizes and flavors of popcorn. Popcorn is bagged right in front of you and you are able to mix and match flavors. I went with the classic butter and YUMMMMOOOO! I couldn't stop eating this stuff. There were so many buttery pieces. Seriously, buttery perfection with just the right amount of salt. I will definitely make the trip back here again and that could be very soon because my popcorn is already gone.

So welcoming and so confident about his popcorn! Said it's one of the best caramel popcorns in the Midwest. I didn't believe him until he gave us a sample - I was a quick believer!! When he gave us the sample it was still warm and oh so perfect. Then he said it's even better 5 days later!! There's no way my popcorn will last 5 days once I bring it home to the kids! Then he tells me that the owner didn't update the prices on the board and tells me to talk to the owner about it. I ask who the owner is and he tells me to leave. This is a bait and switch or someone is skimming money. While the sample was good, I don't shop at scammers. Either update the prices on the board or fix the POS but don't defraud customers!

If you turn a sharp right and a sharp right again while heading south on highway 61 there is a drop down and the vintage 19th century buildings with many active shops and surprises. Most of the old section ends at the train depot. This area could be improved and made into an attraction someday as it is just sitting there. There is a Riverwalk with an entertainment schedule and plenty of room to picnic or just play in the park along the river. Walking through town there is now only antique store a few restaurants and a coffee shop, vintage clothes and a bridal shop, and the usual insurance office further down. I found the old movie theater which appears to be in use as a community stage. There is a small popcorn shop hidden away. *Interesting the cities finest (yes police) past by me twice. It almost tasted wet or soggy, which threw me off a bit. Maybe it's best enjoyed fresh the day of? I'd be willing to go back and try a different flavor, but next time I'll probably eat it sooner rather than later.
