Onion rings cooked so hard, they were too hard to eat. Definitely over cooked.

The food was overcooked, the burgers were burnt and the onion rings were overcooked, also. This has been my spot for years when traveling from Houston to Kerens. I stopped in Saturday around 3:30 pm and ordered 2 #1's with cheese, one with fries, the other with onion rings. I paid $25 for this disappointment and it wasn't discovered until I had reached Kerens an hour later. It was VERY disappointing because Kerens has no hamburger joints...... WHAT'S UP WITH YOUR COOK?

This is a perfectly fine TX Burger in terms of quality. The building needs some work for sure - it's clean, but desperately in need of an update. Seats are worn, nubs of napkins are shoved under the table legs to stop constant rocking. You know the story: They focus on food but not only facilities. I guess that's ok but I think a little money on new or repaired tables would go a long way. Another oddity is that Texas Pete's hot sauce is sitting out to grab for the table, but you have to ask for ketchup for your fries.

    Lemonade??? Nope!

Not bad for a quick burger. Fries were good but the tea sucked. Although ask for easy on the Mayo unless you like tons on your burger

May have been the most greasy burger I ever had! Onion rings were good. Service was good. Probably used 10 napkins because of the grease!!

The proportions were the perfect size, not too little and definitely not overwhelming. Everything was excellent and cooked to perfection. I had the sweet tea and it was wonderful as well. My co worker had the fish plate, she is a connoisseur of fish and said it was wonderful. The booths were a good size and customers are able to write with chalk paint pens to leave their mark. The environment was relaxing and fun at the same time. Although the space is smaller, the speed of service and the wonderful staff made it feel big. Will definitely return when I travel through Teague!

OK, now that I got that out of the way, the chicken at Bush's Chicken is pretty much flavorless compared to other more popular fried chicken chains. On our first visit to a Bush's Chicken, which happened to be this location, I ordered a 4 piece tender meal, which came with gravy, a side a large drink. My wife ordered the 2 piece mix individual meal, which came with a roll, side and large drink. First, the fried chicken was very light colored, which I guess is how it is at any Bush's Chicken. Second, the skin and meat were almost flavorless, compared to more popular restaurants like KFC, Popeyes, Raising Canes. In addition, the white gravy that came with the tender meal wasn't good either and I barely used any of it after the first few bites. For my side, I got the mac & cheese and that was just OK. It was a very runny mac & cheese, but it also needed more flavor as well. My wife got the corn nuggets for her side and that was probably the best part of our meal. As for the location, it was very quiet when we came in and there were only a handful of customers at the most. All of the employees were also teenagers, but they didn't give us any issues and did their jobs. The restaurant seemed clean enough and I didn't notice any issues either. The fried chicken was really the only issue.

Determined to…read morefinally try something new - and to not hit up the usual Buc-ee's or Woody's and the like - we stopped at Sam's last Friday. And I'm glad we did! If you're seeking something quick, gourmet, trendy, or unique, Sam's is NOT it. But if you have time to sit down at a classic Texas comfort food joint and enjoy a buffet with items such as southern fried chicken, fried catfish, brisket w. BBQ sauce, fried okra, corn, mashed potatoes, and a whole lot more, then Sam's is worth checking out. They also have an ala carte menu of southern classics. Oh, and if you opt to do the buffet as I did, you can help yourself to a few different freshly made warm desserts or ice cream, and at no extra charge. $19.99 was more than fair for buffet and that's more than fair for what you get. There is also a fruit and salad bar which I didn't partake from and I couldn't even try all the hot food. Oh well...there will be a next time!

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.

I was in the drive thru and knew I was in trouble the minute they asked me to pull forward and wait for someone to bring my food out to my truck. I've seen this scenario play out before and it's always resulted in them forgetting to bring my food out. So, after enough time to have gone into a sit down restaurant and been partially through my meal, I went inside. No one paid me any attention until I said, "I'm still waiting on my Big Breakfast. The manager--I recognize her, but don't know her name--brusquely said, "we're still waiting on pancakes." She said this as I saw two Big Breakfasts sitting in queue and watched the line personnel open and close a warming bin full of pancakes. I suppose those two Big Breakfasts meals could've been going out to someone who'd been there longer than me, say someone who'd waited 45 minutes. I said, "I've been waiting 32 minutes already." That's when she snapped: "Fast food isn't always fast." She then yelled at her staff, "Don't take anymore orders for Big Breakfasts, everybody wants them then complains about having to wait. NO MORE!!" Sounded good to me, if you're such a poor manager that your staff can't fill a Big Breakfast order in less than half an hour, maybe you shouldn't be serving that item. But I suspect corporate has a different opinion of how that's supposed to work. By the way, after all that, the food was merely warm at best.
