Overall our experience with Tyner has been very positive. We love the contemporary style of their pieces and the options to customize. The prices are a little higher than some other places but I feel it's worth the extra dollars for the higher quality of their furniture. The sales people, have been very pleasant & helpful, without being pushy. There was a glitch where our kitchen furniture was delivered with screws missing from the chairs. (The furniture was shipped from California and assembled at their warehouse in Yspsilanti). We were like WTH? But when we called the store our sales person Ross, came to our house the next day and put the screws in. So I'd call that pretty good service. We will keep using Tyner since we consider them one of the better furniture options in the area. read more

I had a nasty surprise at Tyner when I discovered I had to pay a 25 percent restocking fee for a cancelled order I never received. If you want their store policies, you have to email the store to get them. When I emailed the store for a copy of their policies, they never responded. They also use paper receipts, and handwrite all your information, including credit card info on a sheet of paper. My purchase was considered "special order" even though it was the exact same as a damaged floor model, which supposedly made my item impossible to return without a fee. My salesperson was also not upfront about any of this, and I left feeling manipulated. If you are looking for an experience like most other stores, either online or in person, where returns are easy, policies are clear, and transactions are handled electronically, this is not it. I like this place. It's huge, so it's a little overwhelming, but otherwise it's fun to look around at all the furniture - they have a hell of a selection! The place is well laid out, the staff is friendly, and there's tons of parking. The deals are kinda average though, so we did not end up using them to buy our furniture. read more

They have a nice selection of traditional and more contemporary furniture and really great service in a low-pressure environment. Every time that I'm in this store I see something that I like. Tina was very helpful and rather than pressure us to buy more she suggested that we buy a couch, chair, ottoman set first and then see if we wanted to add another chair to the set. Tyner's was also very flexible with us about delivery giving us the exact day and time frame that we needed. The delivery guys were also very careful with my home and new furniture. We did return for the additional accent chair which needed to be special ordered. It arrived earlier than predicted and Tyner's stored it for several weeks until we were able to pick it up (Tina suggested that we not pay for delivery for a chair that would fit in an SUV). Also, one time we asked about a paint color on a wall. They didn't know the name of the paint, but someone put some paint on a stir stick and dried it for us so we had a sample to take to a paint store. read more

Very disappointed in our experience. We ordered a piece before the pandemic, and understandably it was delayed. But then in May, when their store reopened, the communications were horrible, the product arrived damaged, it needed to be repaired, their manufacturer ran out of fabric, we could never get a straight answer on timeline, and no matter how we tried to reach them and ask them for updates we were always chasing them down. And Tyner's annoyance that we wanted clear answers was palpable. We have since canceled the order, and basically they kept $500 (deposit) from us for four months, and we are left with no loveseat. They are processing a refund, however. And the loveseat wasn't cheap. BTW, we had tried to order a sectional from them five years before, and that item arrived damaged as well. We bought a very expensive table, chairs, and cabinet from Tyner. Not only did it take substantially longer than they said it would (told us 10-12 weeks, took more than 16), the cabinet arrived in the wrong color and damaged. The table was damaged as well and clearly was not finished properly by the manufacturer. Rather than making it right, the managers were rude to us and would not return our calls. We had hoped to buy quite a bit of furniture from them but we won't spend another penny there and suggest you don't either. It's not worth the hassle especially considering there are so many other great furniture stores in the area where you won't spend nearly as much and people want to help! read more

We purchased a lazy boy rocker recliner 2/26/21 we could not have had a more professional salesman Paul Hall he went above and beyond to see that we were getting what we wanted and needed. He explained that due to the pandemic we would be a few months no problem. When we picked up the chair on 7/17/21 it was wrapped didn't realize there was a problem until later. It didn't sit right nor did the lever work smoothly. We called and explained, someone was sent out on 8/25/21 he said he didn't even need to sit in it he could tell by looking at it. He arranged pickup on 11/27/21, we received it back in December with the problem only worsening. We have been spoke to like we need instructions as to how to maneuver a recliner. We have two old lazy boys and have never had a problem. Lazy boy stores don't want to get involved due to us not purchasing it through them. Understandable! Not only has this been a major headache but a financial hardship due to $934.73 dollars later we have a chair that is defective. Just had my temperpedic bed delivered. Very stress free experience. Our salesperson Nick was very knowledgeable on all the different types of beds and was able to meet the price received from another store. The delivery time was accurate. The real reason fro the great rating was sealed when delivery men Brandon and Sheldon entered our house, fully masked and taking great care to make sure they would set up the bed without getting anything dirty and explaining the height of the new bed and adjusting everything perfectly. The salesman did his job but when we got home and looked at the paperwork, we will just say it did not align to what we had understood had been talked about. Tyner's website lured me to attempt a weekend drive into Ann Arbor, in hopes of finding something different from the dorm room stylings of Gardner-White and Art Van's overpriced, overblown contemporary pieces. The abundance of middle of the road brands like Englander caught my eye, while the possibility of personally experiencing a spendy Thomasville couch outside a showroom justified pouring $3.89/gallon gas into the tank. Throw in a holiday sale for good measure, and I was prepared to open my wallet for the right combination. A furniture store of this calibre should not resemble an abandoned strip mall. Its shabby, pockmarked parking lot concerned my husband enough that he escorted me by the elbow all the way to the front door. I think we may have seen a Fiesta trapped in one of the sinkholes. Once inside, though, Tyner's is divided into numbered showrooms with an extensive assortment of bedrooms, dining sets, couches, and tables. Beyond the front showpieces trying to part a girl with a cool $5,000 or so, the circuit is roughly divided between living room and bedroom spaces on a meandering, confusing loop that makes losing your loved ones rather likely. I wish I could say the same for the salespeople. They pounce the moment of entry, hearing some silent alarm that warns of impending sale arriving. Like other reviewers, we had seconds before someone ambushed us with offers to help and a 'stream of commentary' worthy of a furniture docu-drama while we browsed. With all due respect, salespeople need to know when to back off. I made plenty clear we would come to them with questions, but still I got stalked like a naughty child in a candy shop. The beau and I entered with a general idea of the style we wanted and clearer ideas about budget and size. On the plus side, there were lots of models to choose from and no adherence to a single style or material. Locating a specific brand or model listed on the website is difficult due to the large inventory, and salespeople had an annoying habit of trying to upsell me on similar models, side tables, and the "perfect accent piece." In the end, we could not locate the model of couch we wanted and it no longer appeared in the catalogue. Rather than try to haggle on a "request a quote" price and fuss over a piece we were not 100% committed to, we decided to take our luck elsewhere. Good points: the broad selection in general beats most competitors, and they stray into lesser known product lines. Seen one La-Z-Boy, seen them all, but some of their products are difficult to locate locally. Plenty of fabric/wood options laid out for each piece, full catalogues for most lines, and attractive lamps and bric-a-brac to finish off a room give a complete idea of what is available. Bad points: Expensive in general, as prices seem to float above average. Sale prices were not great and incentives didn't particularly apply. Pressure tactics to buy complete sets or more expensive options are common. read more

Before I start I will be upfront and say I did not buy anything from this store. I did visit 3 times trying to figure out what I'd like to buy though. I am the type of big purchase shopper that looks once... looks twice.. researches.. thinks and returns for a giant sale where I up sell myself. The Good: Tyner has one of the largest furniture showrooms in the area. Many of what I found out were the major brands are represented here and/or their website. Their website is very complete and there are only a handful of one off pieces not on the site that are in the store. For this reason I suggest reviewing the site fully before your visit so you can go in ready for action. I went in with the intention of wandering around and getting inspiration and this place is not good for that. They have late hours some days of the week so you won't have to miss work to look at furniture. The Bad: The reason this place isn't good for inspiration is because you will be swarmed by salesmen the second you come in. I put on my best "leave me alone" face and even wandered off so I could look on my own but the salesmen team up to locate and return you to your keeper. A saleseman will lie and say "Oh that's the rare and luxurious Hammary hidden trunk collection" and quote you some ridiculous price. Then you look on Amazon or similar site online and it is literally a quarter of the price for the exact coffee table. I also had my eye on a certain sales piece and the lady "helping" me insisted some other stuff would match it perfectly. I am no Martha Stuart I know two different wood types don't go together They clearly work on commission and while you can find a few good deals, you really have to be ready to cut the bullshit and not get lost in the moment. Furniture is expensive and difficult to live with if it isn't exactly what you need and they don't care. I had a sales lady try to tell me a foot between my coffee table and the giant entertainment center was enough space so she could sell me extra crap. Also ask about wait times, many items like couches with coverings not in store can take months and are readily available in other stores or online for cheaper The Annoying: For right now it is difficult to get in and out of their parking lot due to construction. They move the furniture at least weekly so if you shop like me you will not be able to easily find things you have seen before and even may get lost in the store during one visit to be shepherded around if you appear to be a lost soul. Specific to this store are very generic pieces you will see all over if you look at other stores or online. I went to Art Van over by Briarwood and spent an ungodly amount of money, but they left me alone, had a good selection and reasonable prices. I knew I was paying the salesman's commission, but it was worth it to me to have a real store to see the stuff and delivery. The salesman also earned his commission too because he helped me instead of pushed me into more things. I was also able to find a few unique things that I couldn't find online or elsewhere. Yes, from the parking lot, it looks a bit deserted.. But once you get inside, you will be pleasantly surprised! I went into the store with my fiance and walked around for about 5 minutes. Then I turned to my fiance and said "wait... Have we really been in a furniture store for 5 minutes and haven't had someone following us around like in other furniture stores??" It was SO nice not to be followed EVERYWHERE. Their furniture was priced appropriately and were of good quality. We worked with Mr. Kirk T, who was just delightful to work with. He gave us the information we needed to look around the store. Then when we were stuck on a decision, he didn't push us or try to sell us- he genuinely seemed to care about this big purchase we were going to make and gave us time to think. Our sales person was Nicholas Packett. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. I even Googled reviews of the manufacturer of the sofa we were considering while I was in the store, and reviews there warned about the exact same thing Nicholas had just told us to avoid. He provided excellent suggestions and guidance. We purchased the sofa we like that day after looking at many different fabrics and colors. Nicholas came out to our house a couple of days later so we could see the samples in the correct room and light. That made a bid difference. We definitely will recommend him and Tyner to any friends looking for furniture. read more

I would highly recommend not buying anything smith brothers. We bought a sectional and one of the pieces was built terrible. Bad bunching at the bottom and holes in the arm rest. Completely different and shit from the rest of the couch. Tried to make a clam from the purchasing company and got the run around for a month. Tried to reach out to smith brothers direct and quickly learned they could care less. Looked up reviews online and learned I was not the only one. Wish I would have checked into this more before buying. Will never buy anything from smith brothers or Tyner furniture in Ann Arbor again. read more

TERRIBLE Store. DO NOT Even Consider Buying Furniture Here. If you desire details see my story below: I bought an expensive chair from Tyner a few years ago that quickly deteriorated after purchase with minimal use (fabric turned shabby and stained from minimal use and no damage I caused to chair). Tyner was rude when I contacted them about it within the first year and told me to call an upholstery cleaner. Well, given the chair was "treated" during manufacturing, code "S", it cannot be cleaned with water and so no place in town will clean it. Fast forward to 2013, I decided to give Tyner another try, given there's few local furniture stores to choose from. During this experience, I ended up chatting with a nice clerk (Alan) and the chair from 2009 was brought up. He was shocked by my previous experience and told me they have a policy of giving 50% of money back if unsatisfied with the quality and the purchase is within 10 yrs. He then did his sales magic on me, with unfortunately I was fooled by...again, and I decided I wanted to buy a sofa from them. When I came back with my receipt for the chair for my 50% refund and to buy the sofa. Alan was not working. A very rude blond clerk approached me to help. I rehashed the situation with her. She said everything Alan said about the 50% refund was false and took me back to speak with the manager. Well, everything from this point got incredibly worse. The manager sat back from her desk (bigger lady, fake dyed red hair) and never got up from her "perch" once while addressing me or the situation. Her attitude was apparent before she even spoke. I've never been mistreated this poorly, in person mind you, by a "customer" facing manager. It was abominable. She told me everything Alan sais was false, that "I got him in trouble" for even saying it (unbelievable that you'd tell a paying customer something like that) and even though I contacted them multiple times in 2009 about the chair it was MY fault that I didn't fully understand how to care for the chair...even though they never told me how to until NOW 4 years later, yelling at me through a window of their cashier's office. Needless to say, I left without buying a sofa. BY FAR THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER RECEIVED AND WORST QUALITY OF PRODUCT I'VE RECEIVED FOR MONEY SPENT. read more

We are EXTREMELY disappointed with this store! We had to get a warranty/replacement mattress, which of course we had to wait for them to order. Twice we checked to make sure they had ordered the correct mattress, twice we were assured that they had. Well along comes delivery day and guess what . . . wrong mattress!! Ugh!! Now it's back to the waiting game again!! We were warned that this would happen and the employees, Jean (the supposed manager), Daphne and Ross were absolutely NO help! Awful, awful salesman! Would give a 0 star rating if I could. We knew exactly what we wanted as we had shopped at another store so we had brands, model and fabric numbers. He really didn't know what he was doing and had to run to ask people. We were on running out of time as we had another appointment and asked if we could write down the information and he could get back to us on prices. He said "sure". After we gave him the information, he said he would only give prices for that day. So I asked him if the paper we just gave him was going into the "circular file" and he said, "Yep!" I cannot believe the poor customer service. We were looking to purchase all furniture for our living room...can't believe he wouldn't work with us. I special ordered a recliner chair from a picture at Tyner Furniture. When they delivered the chair in my home and I sat in it I decided I didn't like it. When I called Ross and told him that I didn't care for it and would like to exchange it for something else he said he would check to see if I could because it was a special order. He called me back and said they would allow it but there was a restocking fee which I was ok with because I thought I was stuck with a chair I didn't like. They delivered the new chair and I'm very happy with it. Make sure you see Ross as your salesman because it makes a big difference who your sales person is some won't go out of their way to help you. read more

So we had high hopes for this place because we didn't have the best delivery experience at Art Van and was hoping this place would be better. We were VERY disappointed. If I could give them ZERO stars, I would.This is a review of Tyner itself not the mattress because the mattress we bought is a Tempur-Pedic so that's a separate company. First off we checked out several places for mattresses and the lady at Tyner Christine aka Chris seemed nice enough and kept checking back on us. When we asked about the price for just a king mattress (since we had a frame already), she looked in her book for about 10 minutes before she finally quoted us at $3,200. Apparently what she quoted us was wrong we found out when we went to pay a day or two later after checking out other places, but since she went on vacation they made us wait a week until she got back so they could talk to her about it. Then she called me and said that she didn't even find a $3,200 in the book. And I had clearly written it down on the back of her business card and she made me feel like I had just made it up. She wasn't super nasty on the phone but she just said "well I didn't even find a $3,200 price so not sure where that came from." I mean it was their mistake they should have honored it because we were mattress shopping and that was one of the reasons we chose them was the price. Next issue came when they were supposed to call us for delivery. It had been a week after we paid for the mattress IN FULL! First we tried to schedule delivery after we paid and Christine said they had to wait for Tempur-Pedic to ship it to them and they would call us. A week passes by with no call so I called them and they were like "oh yeah we just got it in" and thankfully I called because they had a cancellation otherwise they were booked for at least another week for delivery. The final issue came when they were to deliver they gave us a four hour window. The guy (Rob) didn't call us when he was on the way but my boyfriend was home and worked from home just so he could be there. The window was 2-6 p.m. and the guy showed up at 2:15 and claimed that he knocked and no one was home. He left that message on my phone at 2:15, and I had to call Tyner, since the guy didn't pick up his phone, and I said my boyfriend was home and he didn't hear anybody knocking. And clearly the guy didn't ring the doorbell because he would have heard that for sure. So they got a hold of the delivery guy and they came back an hour and a half later to drop the mattress off. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THIS ONE THING THEY DIDN'T MENTION! It's not the end of the world but they said at no charge they would take the OLD MATTRESS away. That's all they said. And on the invoice it says "take old mattress away." Apparently their policy, which they NEVER told us, is that they only take away however much they deliver. So we had only ordered the mattress, no box spring. That meant they only took the TOP MATTRESS and said they couldn't take away the bottom mattress. I'm like 'are you kidding me?'. They did NOT tell us that when we bought it from them. So make sure to ask A LOT of questions from the place you buy from and if possible verify it in writing via e-mail or record the conversation to make sure that they can't turn around and be like "oh well that's not our policy" or something. read more

I bought 2 couches from them and they told me they would take the old couches out of the house for an extra fee which I paid but, when they came to deliver them they refused to take out the previous couches and took the delivery back. I would highly recommend Tyner's Furniture! They offer a wide selection of high quality furniture that you don't see at the other Ann Arbor stores. My salesperson, Joe Forbus, was great to work with. He let me freely roam the store (he didn't even stalk me!) and let me come back to him with questions. I purchased a bedroom set constructed of real wood (not just wood veneer) and also a mattress set. Due to Joe's excellent service, I plan to go back to order living room furniture. Purchased a recliner for my mom in January; paid around $600 on sale. A seam on the foot rest tore within 60 days and it is now mid-July and we are still waiting for them to fix it. Also, the cushions are horrible - they are already out of shape. Very disappointed overall.
