I got take out Pad See-Eu with tofu. It does not say it comes with egg like some of the other noodle dishes but mine came with it and I am vegan so do not eat egg. Please make sure to update the menu if this dish usually has egg in it so it is accurate! We enjoyed our lunch at Typhoon! We met for lunch on a Thursday. Seems like their takeout business was more active than the sit down crowd. Lots of orders, going out the door and only a few tables at lunchtime on that day. This was my first foray into Thai food, and it was great! I have a gluten allergy so I asked the waitress about it. She seemed very knowledgeable and made some suggestions based on gluten-free and I don't like spice. Gluten free items are a $2 up charge. She suggested the Pad Woosen, so I got that with shrimp. It was excellent and I did not get sick. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well. I can't remember the names of what they were, but I took pictures of them. Typhoon does not have liquor, so we had waters and soda. The service was very good. Food was very good. I will try Thai food again! read more

I went with a group of 20 people to Typhoon. I had never been to Typhoon before, but the person, who organized the dinner said good things about their Thai food, so I came along. Upon coming in, our party was split into two large tables. It took a little bit of convincing, but they obliged and let us put the tables together. I decided to order the house salad as well as the Rama (a vegetable dish with rice and peanut sauce) with shrimp and tofu. Our appetizers came out quickly and my house salad was very good. It was a combination of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sliced carrots, big pieces of broccoli and cucumber and pineapple with a side of peanut sauce. Scrumptious! Very fresh and tasty. My one downside with the meal was just how long it took to get our entrees. I understand we are a party of 20, but the restaurant wasn't packed by any means. Took more than 1 hour - probably closer to an hour and a half - to get our food. By the time the food came, I was very hungry. However, the rams dish was great. The shrimp was large with a good texture and flavorful taste; the tidy was lightly fried with a nice inside of tofu. The tofu could have been a tad bit hotter and the portions could have been a bit bigger, but otherwise very good. Altogether, I enjoyed my meal and Typhoon. We ordered 2 drunken noodles - the vegetables were wayyyy over cooked to the point that the green color in the veggies turned into almost yellow color. Did not look appetizing at all, the broccoli had a fishy taste to it & the noodles were blah, literally could not finish it, we threw most of it away curry puffs - decent, tasty Fried banana dessert w/ caramel sauce - decent, tasty Overall i would not return to this restaurant because the quality of the dinner entrees was not good at all. I wanted to try the several Thai restaurants in Middletown so I chose Typhoon as my first. I went at 3:00 so naturally no one else was in there. It's a very nicely decorated and spacious environment. The women came out right away. I ordered one of my favorites, Pad Woon Sen with chicken and tofu. I use it as a comparison to other restaurants. It was very tasty except it didn't have as much noodles as other places give you. I also ordered to-go, Pho beef soup and green curry chicken. When they brought my to-go order, they kindly gave me a complimentary order (4) of spring rolls with sweet dipping sauce. They were some of the best. The green curry had a lot of chicken and was very good, except more watery than others. I ordered it mild spice. Unfortunately, the beef Pho soup was disappointing. It's not like traditional Pho; different noodles, broth WAS NOT the distinct Pho taste, the beef wasn't sliced paper thin, and a little tough, I don't recall any basil (most important to me) and there were no bean sprouts, hoisin or schiracha (sp?) sauce. We called Typhoon for takeout last night and got a great batch of food! Service was knowledgeable and friendly, and worked with us as we ordered was gluten free and vegan. When we ordered tofu with a dish, the woman on the phone was quick to clarify that they didn't use fish sauce, and asked if egg was okay- I love that attention to detail, and knowing dietary restrictions. We ordered Pad Thai, Pad See Eu, Vietnamese Fresh Rolls, Basil Eggplant, and Curry Puffs (not gf). Everything was really delicious and fresh tasting. I really liked the Pad See Eu. We like good flavorful Thai food. The curry puffs were amazing. We had a mango curry and chicken eggplant dinner special. Both were packed full of flavor. In both some of the veggies were too raw (uncooked). In the eggplant dish the eggplant was mushy. Again both did stand tall on flavor. One person seemed to do nearly all the work while another sat. My favorite Thai restaurant in Middletown. Typhoon is popular with Wesleyan students so don't be shy if you arrive and don't find other diners when students are away for summer or winter break. Believe me it's a very good Thai restaurant. Fresh ingredients, vegetables are cooked just enough retaining a crunchy firmness. Service is attentive and friendly. Panang Curry is my favorite meal at Typhoon. The spring rolls are also very good. I am sure there is much more to explore on the menu than my palate has considered. I believe Typhoon is BYOB. Check that out in advance if you want to share a special beverage with your family and friends. The only thing preventing me from giving Typhoon 5 stars is the clutter in the back of the restaurant. It appears fewer post COVID diners has led owners to use some of the dining area as storage. Once upon a time, before Middletown was a Mecca for culinary diversity, it was a slightly run down college town that was blessed with a handful of great restaurants. One of them was Thai Garden where young me tried massaman curry, pad Thai and Thai iced tea for the first time. Fast forward a decade or so and (if I remember correctly) there was some division and part of the staff left Thai Garden to open Typhoon. I've been enjoying Typhoon since then and never looked back. The food and service here are top notch. The BYOB option is great for me as I have a nearby business where I keep a fully stocked beer fridge. I often stick to my favorites here, but occasionally try something new and am never disappointed. The ambiance here is nothing special. It's kind of a stick Asian restaurant, I guess. But, it's clean and not run down. They can accommodate very large parties. A friend of mine has his Birthday party here every year and there are usually 20 or so people there for that. Pricing is very fair. It's expensive to eat out anywhere nowadays, but every time I go there I feel like I got a great value for my money. Came from work to this Very small portion, Dry, overcooked meat and very undercooked string beans. The beans tasted as if they came off the freezer and were quickly dipped in warm water. The shrimp had absolutely no seasoning. The carrots were the only that was decent. Everything was under seasoned and not spicy at all. Will not be returning back. read more

This place was very good. The food comes out quick, and tastes very good. I am a big Thai fan, I think the food is very delicious, healthy, and fits my dietary restrictions. The staff is nice here and accommodating. They also appear to be BYOB. A table next to us brought a bottle of wine and the restaurant staff provided them with an ice bucket, which was very nice. The only negative I can think of is the price is a little higher than other Thai places in town, but with the inflationary economy we are dealing with now, it's understandable. First time trying it here based on the good reviews. It was only OK. Both my husband and I got the pad Thai with tofu. I felt like the noodles could've used more sauce and were a little bland. The tofu was not cooked well and soggy, so I didn't even eat mine. The vegetables in the pad Thai were filled with a lot of broccoli , which I thought was odd and have never had Broccoli anywhere else in my pad Thai. I find it so hard to believe that I haven't written a review before now. I've been coming here for years for either takeout or (less frequently) eating in. I am not exaggerating about the fact that this is my go-to place when I am sick with a cold or need to show my stomach some mercy. I have tried many things here, but my favorite "sick" comfort food is the ginger soup with tofu and vegetables and a side of glass noodles. I throw the glass noodles into the soup and it makes it much more hearty and filling (feel free to steal my trick here). I am also obsessed with the Tom kha tofu vegetable soup- it's aromatic and so delicious. The food is reasonably priced and you can get great deals on the lunch specials. The staff working here and the owner are incredibly welcoming and friendly and always manage to get takeout orders together quickly. I don't think that I've ever waited more than 2 or 3 minutes for my order. If you choose to eat in, the restaurant is spacious yet still cozy, so you can't go wrong either way. Everything was good feeling like I was shorted out on the main component of one of my Top 5 favorite dishes of all time can be fairly controversial to me. Typhoon is a direct competitor to Thai Gardens which is right down the street and both places are great in my opinion. Typhoon over here has the "grandma's cooking" kind of vibe as most of the waitresses were older individuals that I assume are from Thailand. Not the first time I've had this experience in a Thai place. Well I liked it. My mother's noodle dish in which I forget the name of came on a sizzling hot plate and looked so good and noticeably came with a lot of noodles. But I on the other hand ordered Beef Pad See Eew, this dish has flat/wide rice noodles a.k.a. Chow Fun Noodles. Tasted great, beef was tender, vegetables were not overcooked, but hmmmm I can't remember much about the noodles because there barely were any. I remember there being one nice piece of a nice and chewy flat rice noodle, the rest were more or less just scraps or bits and pieces of what I should have tons of. I've been given small portions before but this is different, this is like a miscalculation of how much of an ingredient was put into my dish. Well this sums up my experience here, I had to use the rice that came with my mom's noodle dish to make up for the noodle losses. I'm actually not even sure why her dish came with rice anyways! It had such a generous amount of noodles, what would she need rice for? Maybe they knew they ripped me off with noodles and decided to give me some rice to make up for it. I'm kidding but still, I just wanted some noodles. There was litterally more meat and vegetables than noodles. Ok I'll stop now, you get the point. Oh I also had steamed shumai for an appetizer and it was not that great either. It was more or less a downgraded version of the one you get at a Japanese restaurant. So this place isn't terrible, but just disappointing. Their competition is basically right across the street so I expected better. Hopefully next time I stop by they learned their lesson and hopefully you don't get shorted out on noodles like I did. read more

Mediocre Thai food. I ordered the yum nur (grilled beef salad) because I wanted something light and didn't feel like ordering noodles like I usually do. It was...not good. There were a few chunks of grilled beef (tasty), and then a small pile of sliced onion, tomatoes, and what looked and tasted like canned pineapple. The dressing was very sour. It wasn't my cup of tea, and to make matters worse, it was a really small portion. I had a few bites of my husband's pad thai since I was still hungry. It was much better than my dish, but still not something I would go out of my way for. If you do go here, get the noodle dishes. The portions for those are way more reasonable, and they do a decent job. I do give them props for accommodating our large group and also for the guy at the host stand being so damn personable and friendly. I say that the staff has character because I came in to eat, but took it to go because my son was being disruptive. As we ate in the car, our son would only eat the spring rolls, which were soon gone. So, we ordered another two orders of them to go so that he would have something to eat. As I was picking up the order, I offered to give a tip, but the hostess refused because I had explained why I was back making another order and she said she did not want to take advantage of my son's pickiness.
