Apizza Heaven has been on my radar for a while because of social media. Until recently, I didn't realize they're so close. I decided to try AH on a recent Friday Night. I think I ordered online for takeout and my order was ready within a reasonable time. I ordered a large chicken pesto specialty pizza and a small specialty pizza with standard pizza mozzarella, fresh mozzarella, and piped ricotta. I also ordered a penne all vodka and chicken cutlet. The crust on both pizzas was very good. Good char. A good mix of crispy and chewy. The chicken pesto pizza was terrific. It has chicken cutlet slices, pesto, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and ricotta. Really every part of this pizza was great. Highly recommend. I ordered the 3 cheeses specialty pizza almost out of curiosity, because I've never seen anybody go all in on those cheeses like that. The good news is, that within that pizza, were the components of a very good pizza. The blend of these cheeses didn't completely work for me flavor-wise though. Also, these cheeses produced a bit too much grease. I'd order just the sauce and standard mozzarella next time and I bet it would be very good. The penna alla vodka was a chunky sauce version. The noticeable chunks were mostly onions. I'm used to more of a blended version. I respect that this dish has its own vibe, but I personally prefer a blended version. The sauce flavor was good. The chicken cutlet was very good. I bet they make a great chicken parm. Service was friendly and efficient. Apizza Heaven won't win any beauty contests. The inside is functional. There were a few tables. The outside could use some attention. There were a few random things around the general area. I definitely noticed them when I was walking in. I think people would have a better first impression if those details are taken care of. Overall, I'd rate my experience 4.25 Stars. Had lunch today at Apizza Heaven in Middletown. They opened in March of this year, but this place has clearly been living in Chris' head for a very long time before that, and it shows in every bite. The spot itself is small, clean, and unassuming, no flash, no gimmicks. Counter-style, quiet hum of ovens working, the smell of fermenting dough and bubbling sauce in the air. The kind of place where the pizza is supposed to do the talking... and boy, does it ever. I had: * A small plain cheese * A small secret menu pizza (ssshhhhh...) The plain cheese was everything you want in a pizza and then some. Built on a three-day fermented dough, that alone tells you the level of care here. Chris' standard is simple: If the dough isn't perfect, it doesn't get sold. Most people would never even know the difference, but that's not good enough for him. That's craftsmanship. The sauce was a perfect sweet-acid balance with that deep umami punch only great tomatoes deliver. The cheese? Bubbly, creamy, smooth. This pizza is an exercise in perfect simplicity, nothing to hide behind, nowhere to cheat. The crust brings a clean crunch and that subtle tang that only cold fermentation gives you. Now the secret menu vodka chicken pizza... Homemade vodka sauce. Homemade chicken cutlets. Dollops of fresh ricotta added post-bake. This thing was a full symphony: * Sweet * Acidic * Cool * Warm * Crunchy * Creamy Every note in tune. Nothing fighting for attention. Just harmony. And Chris? He is pure passion. So I was very impressed by my first visit to Apizza Heaven! It had been on my radar for a while, but I don't eat pizza very often, and just wasn't able to visit as quickly as I had wanted to. But, I am so happy I finally did. Immediately upon arriving I was greeted by the owner, Chris. So welcoming, helpful and passionate. I ordered a margherita slice, and 2 of their gluten free dark chocolate sea salt cookies. Pizza by the slice is extremely hard to do well. This was one of, if not the best, I've ever had. It tasted as fresh as could be, didn't dry out at all. Terrific texture, no flop. The dough itself was excellent and had tremendous flavor on its own. They do a 3+ day fermentation process. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. And the cookies were excellent as well! Great chew and texture, plenty of chocolate chunks, and the sea salt really made its presence known. That touch really elevated the cookies. I think there were only 3 tables, and it's a very basic/minimal environment. Not a place for the ambience. Definitely more of a takeout spot, but the food was excellent, and the prices, for what I had at least, were extremely reasonable. I look forward to having it again soon. I am also a big eggplant fan and have heard tremendous things about theirs, so I am eager to try it for myself! read more

True Napoletano pizza of which New Haven pizza is a derivative, has a juicy chewy center that grows firmer and crispier the farther out you get/closer you get to the crust. Mondo is so sub par to me so I figured I'd try this because it has good albeit limited reviews. This was worse. Overcooked, hard, cracker like crust. Hardly any olive oil was used. Margarita wasn't a margarita. It's not supposed to have sliced tomatoes on it. It's supposed to have a simple, fresh, raw sauce, fresh mozz, lots of basil, glug of olive oil. This had a very oregano forward traditional sauce that tasted over seasoned and cooked. Pepperoni was somewhat better, but still altogether dry, overcooked, and totally lacking in proper, elevated, delectable flavor profiles. I'm not a Pepe's or Sally's stan. The best pizza I've had in this state is Zenelli's, also in New Haven. Their pizza is the closest I've had to the two Napoletano brother's I worked for in Brooklyn who owned and operated Luna Rossa which was the best pizza I've had outside of Italy. But it's 45 minutes away. Alas, the search for decent pizza in mid/northern CT continues, likely futilely. read more

Decided to see what all the hype was about. Apizza Heaven is located in a residential/ industrial area off exit 21 on 91. Chris the owner takes pride in his new haven style pie. He makes everything from scratch. Now on to the pie. The crust has a nice crunch to it....it does soften a bit on the ride home but still has a nice crunch and it's sort of slightly airy at the same time. We had a pepperoni pie. The pepperoni had a nice spice to it. The cheese is a cheese blend that I think might have some cheddar in it from the flavor. It wasn't really a saucy pie so I would suggest if you are a sauce person you might want extra sauce. Sauce was very light. Think I could taste some basil to it. And the pizza wasn't floppy and could withstand the weight of the toppings. They were also generous with the pepperoni. 18" pie with 1 topping goes for around $20. Which is a good deal. We were in Middletown for a apt. We were thinking of going to new haven for a pizza.....FORGET ABOUT IT. Finally found the best pizza around. So happy we pulled Apizza Heaven up. This is such a great place to eat, everything was cooked to perfection I swear!! My family and I had the julia and it was the perfect crust texture (didn't even bend when u picked it up) and the cheese was so gooey, and everything is SO fresh. ESPECIALLY the sauce, best sauce ever. They're a new restaurant and have a small space but it's 100% worth it! Their service was the best i've ever had tbh, my family and I had a great time talking to the owner. Apizza Heaven - Half cheese half meatball - Pizza Near Me - Middletown, Connecticut

We ordered around 6:30 on a Friday night: 6 honey bbq wings, 6 garlic knots, mozzarella sticks, a large cheese pizza and a tiramisu. The total came to just under $50 and it was ready in about 25 minutes as promised. The wings were delicious and crispy and the meat fell right off the bone - also the sauce wasn't TOO sweet, which I find is an issue sometimes with honey bbq (will definitely try the garlic parm next time). The garlic knots were twice the size of what I was expecting, and if I'm being critical - they could have used a little more garlic, but they were good nonetheless and came with a generous amount of marinara (enough for the knots and to dip the pizza crust). The mozzarella sticks were pretty standard but were cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside with gooey cheese on the inside. The pizza was the best we've found since moving to the area this past year: thin crust and cooked well done just the way we like it (if you don't like your pizza well done make sure to ask for it lightly cooked). The tiramisu I have yet to try, but it is made in house (as are all of the desserts) and looks very promising... will definitely be having that later. The ambiance is casual with a few tables. The restaurant is clean and all of the staff were very friendly and personable. 10/10 will be back. read more
