Best Thai food in Wallingford hands down. The pad Thai is the best I've had. It's hard not to order it every time. But everything on the menu is delicious so ya gotta branch out. The location in in between two pizza places on the North Haven side of Rt 5 in Wallingford. It's our go-to take out place. Recently we dined in and it was even better. Their tom kha is so flavorful. The green curry beef noodle dish was huge and delicious with the right amount of spice. Unassuming simplicity inside with more take-away orders than diners, it seemed. But dining area was nice. I've dined here years ago and it was different. I imagine they changed owners or renovated in some way, because it's extra good. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times and will say cashier is always super friendly. I remember my call dropped once while placing an order the they called me right back! Food- spring rolls are always good. However, I will say my go to is generally the pad Thai. Sometimes it is spot on and other times it almost tastes like there are different cooks, and it where it tastes like it came from a wok that is too hot/singed flavor and the right flavors just aren't there. I did notice they changed to more biodegrading to go products which is nice though! My family member got the Massaman Currt and reported it was not as good as usual, this time around it was very soupy with minimal spice. I've never eaten inside but this looks like a small hole in the wall spot from the outside , it is very quaint. Overall, return out of convenience when visiting the area from time to time but wish there were more consistency with when those dishes have been closer to their best! read more

This place is usually amazing but I did have to write a contrary review to be honest about my experience. I ordered 2 pad-see-ew with chicken. I know that sometimes Thai dishes come with a fish/oyster type sauce and I specifically asked if they could make it without this sauce. I was told yes. I have an allergy to ANY fish and explained it when I ordered. Sure enough ... picked it up and brought it home. Could IMMEDIATELY taste the fish sauce in the food and had to throw it out. I tried the other to see if maybe they made one with or without -- nope. Both had them. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed by the time I got home, so I couldn't call to have it rectified. Just beware -- if you are sensitive/allergic to fish, they still included it in the food. To the restaurant - people can get VERY sick/ill if you are not careful. Fortunately, I could immediately taste it (which makes me wonder how much they use) and didn't go further after confirming it was in both. It could've landed me in the hospital! read more

Complete failure. For a night that had only 3 tables filled the waitress took way too long to greet us. Followed by water with floating debris???? This has been one of my favorite places for Thai food. But it uas changed hands a few times since the original Owners. I am happy to report that South Side is back. Super good food and great variety. It was pretty busy when we arrived with four other tables. The wait for our food was not long and the food was hot and tasted great. We started with the Thai sampler for appetizer then we ordered the cashew tofu and Khao Soi Chicken (curry chicken over rice noodle with lime and chilli). Servings were sufficient and we took enough leftover home for a full meal. Super happy. We will be back. read more

A delicious little Thai place on South Colony Rd. I must have passed this tiny gem dozens of times but while searching this site for a new Thai restaurant in the area- South Side Thai popped up!! It was a quiet Wednesday evening so there were only 2 tables occupied- then another half way through our meal. It was pleasant snd the waitstaff came over to our table immediately and greeted us with menus and took our drink order. Within minutes we knew what we wanted even though the selection was pretty vast! The crispy pad thai was tasty and fresh! As well as the Spring Rolls appetizer! My dining partner had Hot Basil Chicken and enjoyed very much as well! We will definitely go back and dine in /or do a take out order with even more variety!! 5 stars! read more

I ordered the crab meat fried rice and shrimp pad thai, mild. They were both absolutely amazing!the crab meat was real and actual lump crab meat. They also give you a sweet sauce to pour on the rice and a lime. The sweet and sour mixture takes the rice to the next level. I hadn't visited this place for the last few years since the new management took over (almost 4-5 years ago). One day while we were in the area, we decided to give it a try. To our surprise, the food was as good as before. They do offer online ordering as well phone in orders. My family loves the chicken soup/fried rice options. We heard South Side Thai recently reopened under new ownership, with a chef that we used to love from a restaurant that's now closed. We found it to be the same food we knew and loved from the other spot! I had never been to South Side prior to this visit, so I can't say how it compares to the previous ownership, but we were very happy with our meal here. This has to have been the absolute worst experience I have ever had at a Thai restaurant. This restaurant should not even be categorized as a Thai restaurant. It tastes more like terrible low end Chinese food. This food was flavorless and the chicken wasn't even identifiable as chicken And the rice options were terrible as well, like how do you mess up rice?! And the milk, tea beverages had so many tapioca balls in it you could barely even drink the beverage. To add insult to injury everything was so greasy! I came to this restaurant for a very simple meal. Many times I don't have a huge appetite and I crave soup. My friend joined me. We both ordered soup Tom yom and tom kha. Both were amazing. We actually were kinda of gross and switched to experience both. The hostess was a sweetie pie. The restaurant had regulars. You could tell because of the way they spoke to each other. I'd definelty recommend and I want to go back for dinner or lunch specials when I have a bigger appetite. The music was nice. It wasn't too loud and classical. First of all, the portions were perfect, if a little on the extra side. The food, was everything it should be and more. The rangoons had no air pockets and had a great clean crab taste. So I'm guessing they use real crab in the filling. The yellow seafood curry, was perfection. I ordered medium spice and by the end of my meal my nose was a little runny. So the spice level was definitely there, and built up nicely. The seafood mix has squid, shrimp, and scallops. I'd say it was a very good deal at 20$. The mango sticky rice was good too. I was very happy to find that my fresh mango was a very good ripeness level, which was a bit impressive for late March. All in all, definitely recommend for anyone looking for some delicious, comforting, authentic, thai food. read more

Had a fantastic dinner here on the way to a show at the Oakdale, it's only 6 minutes away, and they were fast and friendly! You'd probably drive right past as the outside isn't really notable but don't do that! :) My daughters and I had three appetizers and an entrée. My daughter also had her first bubble tea which she loved! Appetizers were crab Rangoon, Thai chicken wings and chicken curry puffs (our favorite) which were all perfect and delicious! Our entrées were Pad Thai with the crispy chicken - the dish was great already but that crispy chicken took it to another level(!), House fried rice which was reminiscent of Japanese hibachi rice (soooooo flavorful) with the crispy chicken and the chicken Larb salad, which was spicy and tasty but with just a hint of fishiness (fish sauce/oyster sauce)? That would deter me from having it again but the scallions, cilantro, lime sauce and texture of the chicken were all great! Our server was accurate and friendly and even asked what level of spiciness we'd like and as I said everything came out in in good time! It's a cute little place with an inset fireplace, wall waterfall and fish tank and just feels relaxing, the staff added to this with their calm demeanor and easy going attitude. We have not been to this restaurant in about six years. We decided to go today to give it another shot and we were so pleasantly surprised. We got the vegetable soup with tofu, the hot basil with tofu and the vegetable dish with tofu and everything was lovely. This place is simply phenomenal! I have been searching for the former chef from Thai Noodle House in Woodbridge and we finally found out he is the chef here. His sister Bella is the owner, and they were both so lovely, along with our waitress. And their food is DELICIOUS! We had the Chaiya Noodle Soup and the Crispy Chive Cakes. In town to meet a customer early am. Wanted Thai but not sure where to go. South Side Thai was the closest to the hotel so I figured I would give it a shot. I didn't eat in but what I saw it looked very nice. Thai Food from my experience is different from restaurant to restaurant. I know this because I travel all over the East Coast. When I first try a new Thai place I either do Panang Curry or Pad Thai. Since I had Panang this week already while in NY I figured Pad Thai is an easy choice. I am glad I ordered it because it was delicious. The beautiful young lady who took my order let me know that they just reopened under new owners 2 weeks ago. Distinct crab taste in a time when crab rangoons are more like cream cheese rangoons. The jasmine green tea came sweetened with sugar, which was a surprise, but it was still tasty. Someone at another table sent it back because she also wasn't expecting the tea to be sweet. They brought her another tea free of charge. The tea came in a beautiful mug - very classy! Onto the duck... The tamarind duck came with steamed broccoli and sliced carrot. The duck was just the way duck should be - CRISPY! The broccoli was a nice addition. It was perfectly cooked such that it still had a nice crunch. As I noted up top, the atmosphere and staff were perfect. The restaurant is serene and well decorated, with smooth jazz playing.
