First of all, the view was amazing, and that was the main reason we paid extra money for a table with a better view. Unfortunately, after we were seated, the service from the restaurant staff completely ruined the experience. The food was okay, but honestly, it was nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the service. When we asked to take our leftovers to go, they refused and said they did not have takeout bags. That made no sense because I had already seen another table receive their leftovers packed. Then they told us they could pack it with aluminum foil instead. I said that was fine. However, when they brought it back, they did not even pack all of our leftovers. Overall, the service was far below average. We spent a lot of money on the reservation and the food, but in return we received extremely disappointing service. The beautiful view was the only good part of the experience. read more

This was a first try at Afternoon Tea. All the tea is delicious and I appreciate the variety. Great attention to details and kind service. I think you are paying the high price just for the view, and there is no guarantee for a window seat unless you pay extra online. I think I would skip this one for an Afternoon Tea because the price exceeds the value. If you're big into having a view (which you can only appreciate once window seating open up between customers), maybe it would add value. But the tea experience isn't anything special here and I would recommend trying somewhere else for a fraction of the cost. read more

Great space with wonderful view looking over all of London... and that's what you're paying for. We had dinner off their tasting menu and it was highly ... mediocre. It wasn't bad... the ingredients were high quality and the presentation was descent... but the flavors were off balance... mostly too acidic. Service was ok... probably expected more for the price point. Paid a 50 pound surcharge per dinner for the window seat... I suppose it's worth it since the view is the only real reason to come... and the observation level charges around the same. Raise the bar on food and service and this could be an unforgettable experience... unfortunately, it wasn't. read more

The highest level of afternoon tea you can imagine in London, upscale restaurant, good tea with snacks, and in the tallest building Western Europe - you can't go wrong! Higher price than most other places but you get what you pay for and it was worth it. Endless small snacks, scones, a huge variety of tea, the servers were all very helpful - and of course you have a view over all of London. They do multiple courses first with choices of tea, then small sandwiches, a dessert as a replica of The Shard itself with a dry ice display, pastries, and finally scones with that beloved clotted cream and jam. Oh and their men's bathroom overlooks all of London where you can watch the entire city while you use the restroom. Tea at ting was definitely an experience. Fascinating views of London. The tea is 75 pounds per person but if you want champagne or a cocktail it is 20 pounds more. I feel like you're not only paying for the food but also the views and experience. When they take out the miniature shard... it's absolutely beautiful what they do with the table. Loved it. What a 360 view of London! Breath-taking and amazing views. Ting Restaurant located at the Shangri La Hotel in London at The Shard Building. The hotel is off the London Bridge tube station. I made reservations for dinner at Ting and they were offering a 5-course truffle meal. It was outstanding, the food was exquisite. Service was good as well, we did come a bit later in the day (4-430 PM) for tea but they were still attentive. This was our first time EVER having a high tea experience so perhaps my view is a little skewed. However, I thought the food was phenomenal! I enjoyed the sandwiches: coronation chicken, lox and cucumber, Reuben, and the stars of the show (!): truffle egg salad and the prawn cocktail! The truffle was on point (tasty and not too salty) and you can order more as desired. They SHINED with the desserts: the flavors are chocolate, pistachio, and strawberry and each one was pretty tasty. The green one (pistachio) was my favorite and I loved the scones - flaky, crisp on the outside and soft in the middle - just lovely. The most beautiful tea we have ever been to, and we've been to dozens at home in Los Angeles and in London. The view from the 35th floor of the Shard is incredible and the food matches the incredible view. The desserts were a masterpiece. Because we were celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary they brought us a pastry replica of the shard that was on a special plate that had dry ice underneath them when they poured water in there was smoke everywhere coming out from underneath the shard pastry. read more

If it were not for the price, I would give them 3 stars because the food was not bad. Honestly the server was nice too which would normally make me want to upgrade it to a 2, but let me tell you this: 400 pounds for a dinner than neither of us really liked, was the low spot of our 10 days vacation. I felt like this was an extreme amount to spend on food that really was just okay. My wife was pretty upset. I get that the head chef has a vision, but let's just say I don't share their vision. It all needs editing. The server was nice though. You are pretty much paying for the view, which is floor 35 of the shard. Take my advice: find a nice tandoori place, pay for the viewing platform of the shard, and keep the vast majority of your money in your pocket. read more

This was perhaps the most overpriced and subpar meal we had in London. We knew that the food would be overpriced and probably not up to snuff but we were shocked by how bad it really was. Located in the Shard overlooking the entire London skyline, you are paying for the view and nothing else. The menu here is pan Asian and maybe I'm biased but they do it awfully here. Our meal was PF Chang level flavors but Gordon Ramsey prices. 45 GBP for fried rice (and a small portion at that) was just criminal. They even charged 8 GBP for a bowl of jasmine rice with sesame seeds on it (and we had to wait 15 minutes for it since they ran out). The view here is stunning and the dining area is beautiful. The food though isn't up to par especially with the exorbitant prices they charge. While it's not bad, it's well below the level anyone should charge for essentially fancy Chinese take out. Service is excellent as to be expected. I just can't get behind a place like this though that makes such an obvious cash grab and doesn't even try to make it about the food. Hard pass. read more

Ting is located off of the 35th floor lobby of the Shangri-la hotel. We had all of our breakfasts here & it is well worth it. The restaurant is gorgeous & elegant. Each table has a little stool to place your purse. The place is huge making a L-shape with stunning views of the city. For breakfast they offer a menu or you can eat at their buffet. Opt for the buffet. Hands down the prettiest, freshest buffet I've experienced with so many choices of food. There's a meat, fish & cheese section. A variety of artisan breads, yogurt parfaits, plain yogurt, berry bowls, fruit salads. Scrambled eggs, english bacon, streaky bacon (american style), potatoes, pancakes. Fresh pressed apple juice, orange & a house mix which was a carrot, apple & ginger mix...I know I am missing something because there was so much to choose from. Everything I tried was amazing & I finished each breakfast with a stawberry, blackberry, raspberry & blueberry bowl. Service is discreet & efficient. Helga took extra special care of us. We enjoyed the regular and vegan menu afternoon tea. The truffle sandwich was my favorite of the sandwiches. All of the deserts were nice. The scones were our least favorite but we realize we are more accustomed to American style scones which are sweeter and softer. Our family of four enjoyed the entire experience and would reserve a future tea at The Shard with no hesitation. Afternoon tea time at Ting was one of my favorite memories in London. The views are fantastic since you're near the top of the Shard, and we were able to stay for sunset so the pictures turned out BEAUTIFUL. The tea and food itself was also totally worth it. I sampled a few teas until I stumbled upon the rose tea, which I want to drink for the rest of my life. The sandwiches were a-okay, but the scones with clotted cream and jam, as well as all of the desserts, were phenomenal! We were stuffed to the brim. At about 50 pounds a person, it wasn't a horrible price point either. I would gladly return. We were placed at the back of the restaurant, even though there were plenty of good tables toward the front, and honestly felt a little segregated. Our waiter, LUCA, seemed like he didn't want to serve us at all. When we received the dessert with the "cloud" and smoke, he straight up just gave us the dessert and hot water with no instructions. He didn't even bother doing it for us but had no problem doing it for the other tables. My family and I are from Los Angeles so we've had our fair share of nice restaurants. Comparison to High Tea at Ritz below. My hubby took me here for a surprise birthday afternoon tea. It started off ok, we got seating in the back when there were a lot of empty seats at the windows. We made a request to see if we could get moved to the windows. Waiter told us he spoke with his manager and they will move us once one was available. We waited and waited. Many were available, and our neighbors all got moved with more tables available. But our waiter started dodging our glances. I wasn't going to let this dampen my bday so I started up small talk with another waiter. Hey, I'm American. Thats part of our DNA ! We got moved shortly after. Being of an ethnicity not of privilege, life doesn't just serve you what you want. You learn you have to go after what you want in life. Even at an Asian restaurant ironically. We also went to the Ritz couple days later. Here is the comparison with the Ritz: Food: Ting is better hands down. Scones were finer and softer inside. Pastries and truffles had a crispier base, and topped with more delicate flavors. Light not heavy. Pleasant flavors. Ritz pastries and truffles were more rich, some had odd flavors, base were harder. Ritz served extra sliced cakes, and those were amazing. The tower served here with the dry ice display was rich with creamy white chocolate and tastes more for display. Tea selections are amazing here. They all had flavor, or rich spices, or intense floral or fruit flavors. Sakura blossom tea was our favorite - it actually has sakura flavors. Even in Japan the sakura teas taste like normal green tea. Our new waiter made excellent tea recommendations for us. Ritz had normal teas that were not according to description. Oolongs for example, were cheap bubble shop oolongs bought in bulk - and not the slightly fermented floral ones you find in pricier tea houses. Teas here are quality, comparatively: better blends, richer flavors. Finger sandwiches, Ting had better ones. Bread was soft, and each unique not seen elsewhere. Filling inside was delicious: complicated layered tastes that go well together. Unique. Some had a pop. We wished they could just give us a whole sandwich, these little bite size ones is too small. Ritz sandwiches were more standard, like cheddar cheese slices with a spread. All were in white or rye bread. Ritz give more in quantity in everything. Lots of refills in sandwiches and desserts, with more on the way. They also give a cute bday cake with candle. Ting, they can care less its your bday. No bday cake. Also no refills in pastries and sandwiches. Basically what you are given is it. Service: Ritz had better and more attentive service. Ritz goes all out where they even learn to pronounce the teas in native language. Every 15 min they check in with you. If only their teas tasted native. At Ting, you kind of have to work for your service. Once you establish a relationship with your server, it's a very nice experience: very attentive, great tea recommendations, great rapport. Ting doesn't do anything special for bdays. You only get a bday greeting out at the front. At the Ritz, they make you feel special. Ambiance: no comparisons. Ting is about the view, with classy modern decor. Other is stuffy victorian, but with live piano. Overall, if you want service by default go to Ritz. If you want quality food, its here. It's an Asian restaurant, who's here for the service? That is, until they hand you the bill. read more

While staying at the shard, had the opportunity to dine in for breakfast at the Ting restaurant. They have a huge selection of food for breakfast, in addition to la carte plates. The food that I actually liked was the fruit and the yogurt with the fresh honey comb, they had a variety of Asian plates, eggs, veggies and fruit. They also made egg benedict, I thought it was alright though. But service was outstanding!! Still, the service was polite, but very very slow. For example, we did not get some items in our order on time & had to cancel them. The portions were tiny & not good. Best view with Dinner that I've ever had! We made our booking for 6pm and we're able to get a table right at the window. The views of the Tower Bridge, City of London and River Thames were unlike anything I've ever seen before. We started with drinks, ordering the Espresso Martini and the Nikka Japanese Whisky. The Espresso Martini was divine, decadent and delicious. The Nikka Whisky was incredible, amazing flavor, very smooth, and better with ice. For starters we ordered the Beef Tataki, and Salmon & Tuna Roll. The Beef Tataki was so tender it almost melted in your mouth, and the sauce that was poured over it was so delicious we had to order bread so that we could dip our bread in it to enjoy it even more! The Salmon and Tuna Roll was also incredible, light and full of flavor. For Entrées we ordered the Salt & Pepper Wok Stir-Fried Pork and the Fujian Fried Rice. We split both of these and we felt like they complimented each other beautifully. The Wok Fried Pork was a little dry, however the Fujian Fried Rice was so richly flavored and abundant in sauce they paired together perfectly making a delicious combination. For dessert we ended the meal with the Banana Crystal cocktail and the Chocolate & Miso. The Banana Crystal was delicious and so refreshing and creamy. The Chocolate & Miso was one of the best desserts I have ever had! It was truly amazing. Overall our experience was incredible and we had the most memorable dinner here. Highly recommend. read more

I was really looking forward to having High Tea in London, and was a bit disappointed with Ting. While the place is relatively new (compared to other High Tea locations), it felt a bit shabby. The menus were tattered, the service mediocre and the food not memorable. They have a great opportunity to be unique as they offer an Asian inspired menu as well as the Traditional fare of tiny sandwiches and scones. However the food from both menus was bland and unimaginative. There were some interesting presentations and the tea selection was good, but I'm sure there are better places to have High Tea for the prices we paid.
