We went on a Saturday evening for the Live at the Ritz experience, and we were pleasantly surprised by the entertainment. The show was beautiful and made our night feel truly magical and memorable. That said, the quality of the food left much to be desired. We both ordered the crab with caviar and the wild sea bass, and unfortunately, we couldn't finish either dish because of the very unusual dressing. The dressing had a jelly-like consistency, which I personally really disliked. The chocolate cake, on the other hand, was quite good. We also ordered the tea trolley for ~ £20 per person. It was cute and added to the experience. They also charge an entertainment fee per person, so all in, we ended up spending a little over £700 for two with drinks. Would I do it again? Definitely! One or two times per year, we treat ourselves to some fine dining at a restaurant with a Michelin star. And it's particularly exciting when the restaurant has more than one star. So we were very excited for our dinner at the Ritz Restaurant. First, the good: the atmosphere is spectacular. The wine was amazing. Our waiter, Eduardo, was great. And our sommelier, Italo (sp?), was the best. The food was pretty good (not great--there were some swings and misses). And a nice surprise: the piano player was perfect! We really enjoyed him. Unfortunately, the service (which was great for the first 90 minutes) just kind of disappeared on us. When it was time for dessert, no one came over to us for about 40 minutes. Then, when we finally got their attention to order some of the cheese, they weren't able to get to us. It seemed like one person was in charge of dessert for the entire room. It was quite odd. It seemed like the waiter who came over in the beginning to ask about food allergies was more of the organizer of things, and he was the one who was a bit cold throughout the night. I totally understand that he must have a crazy job, but it was disappointing that we were the table that fell through the cracks. Another challenge: the noise level was pretty high. We struggled to hear most of what the waiters were saying when they were introducing the dishes. For me, that's one of the most exciting parts. Perhaps the combination of talking and their accents made it tough? I'm not sure. But maybe it's just a room where the acoustics make it hard to hear. I'm not usually one to be bothered by noise, either. We still had a great time. But for a restaurant with two stars, we were a little disappointed with the way our table was forgotten. Afternoon Tea at The Ritz Carlton Sandwiches 8.17/10- this was a great selection of finger sandwiches. The Scottish Smoked Salmon with Lemon Butter on Sourdough was my favorite - the salmon was so fresh and the lemon butter added such a nice bright flavor. They did a nice job with the Ham and Grain Mustard Mayo on Brioche which had the perfect tang. The Chicken with Tarragon Cream Mayo on Malt Bread was seasoned well, and I loved how the Cucumber with Dill and Mint was so refreshing and classic. Scones 9.87/10- these were absolutely incredible and my favorite part of the tea service. The scones were incredibly fresh and had the perfect consistency as they were rich, light, and fluffy. The Cornish Clotted Cream was so decadent and the Strawberry Preserve was remarkably fresh - they paired perfectly together. Pastries 7.24/10- lovely selection including a Mont Blanc, chocolate almond cake, and orange cream cake. The Mont Blanc was definitely my favorite of the options. They gave us the option between gingerbread cake or chocolate brownie cake - definitely go for the chocolate brownie cake as it was absolutely fantastic. Cake 9.45/10- they were so sweet and brought out a beautiful mini cake since we were celebrating my birthday! It was a vanilla sponge with fondant and had this amazing raspberry filling. They even packed us a cake to take home which was such a nice gesture. Teas 8.36/10- I tried the Japanese Sencha green tea which was incredibly fresh and grassy with this amazing thick texture. It's sourced from the Sasama river banks in Kawane. Also had to try the Chai which was a nice alternative and the creaminess was perfect with the pastries. Afternoon tea is quite literally one of my favorite activities ever as it includes everything I like so I was incredibly happy and grateful to have tried the Ritz Carlton's high tea. This is the only high tea/afternoon tea experience in the United Kingdom with a tea master who is educated to be able to pair tea with a meal and goes through the process of sourcing the tea. First I will say that the food quality and taste was as expected, first class. It was the service that was an issue. I pre paid for the meal as is expected from many of these restaurants. When the bill came I had credit card in hand and the waiter that presented the bill informed us it was "all taken care of". I read the bill and there was a balance. I called him back over, "no sir, it's all taken care of". So, after 30 min, we got up to leave. While waiting on a cab the manager and captain came out and treated me like I was a bank robber. They made a mistake and didn't figure it out until they actually looked at the bill after I got up. I informed them that the other waiter wouldn't bring me the "machine" and stated it was "taken care of". At that time they called me a liar. No apology, no remorse, just blame the client. I've been to 8 Michelin stared restaurants on this trip alone and I resent the fact that staff this rude and inept can qualify for 1 star let alone 2! We went for afternoon tea. I made reservations a month ahead of the date. They get booked fast, so don't wait. We arrived and were greeted at the door by the doorman. We walked in to a beautiful hotel. The tea room is also very beautiful. We left our coats at the coat room and were seated immediately for our 5:30 tea time. We ended up getting the champagne tea. So, you start with a glass of champagne prior to your tea. Everything is done quickly. Before you know it, you have your sandwiches and tea at your table. The presentation was beautiful. Sandwiches: my favorite was the egg sandwich, but all of them were good. Everything, except the champagne, is all you can eat or drink, but we couldn't even finish what they served us the first round. All the sandwiches come on different breads. All good on their own way. My second and third favorites were the salmon and cheese and chutney. They also bring out a cucumber sandwich, ham and chicken sandwich. Pastries: they were all delicious, but my favorite was the passion fruit one. There was one lemon meringue one and a type of stuffed banana bread one. If you're from the US, the scones are not what you expect. They are biscuits. They have a good flavor. A little dense. Tea: you have to finish your pot before ordering a new one. Since there were three of us in our party, we were able to taste several ones. We all agreed that the earl grey was the best from the four we got. We also tried the Moroccan mint, Rose congou, Passion fruit and orange My birthday was the week of my visit and they surprised me with a birthday dessert. That was super nice of them. The staff was great. Very proper. The only hiccup we encountered was when we were leaving. We were taking a selfie and the door man told a driver standing next to him that Americans thought everything was special. The Ritz Restaurant is a beautiful dining experience. The clientele both times we went were older. It's a nice, romantic spot. Great for celebrating special occasions. The langoustine appetizer was so wonderful. The sauces at The Ritz are fabulous. The Cornish Seabass was also divine. The turbo cannot be surpassed. The chocolate soufflé was nice, but the crepe Suzette is the star of show as it is prepared table side. Men must wear a tie, but don't fret if you did not pack one. The cloak room at The Ritz has a selection of ties to loan for dinner. The only real downside of the meal is sometimes the live singer is so loud that one cannot hear anyone else at the table. We went for tea. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING. FOOD WAS DISGUSTING! I could not believe it. Bread was old - I actually think the Lynch meat chicken was rancid. We tried one bite of each sandwich and left it all there. Yuck. The desserts were not good either. I think Max ate one- I wouldn't ruin my taste buds. The scones were decent- nothing to write home about but we did eat those. I gave two stars ( would recommend this just stop serving food) for the serive! I'm giving it 3 stars just to be nice, I chose the chefs recommended meal which I can tell you right now was something I fully regret. They came out with a duck liver that tastes horendous and to top it off the main course was a pigeon. If I wanted a pigeon for $1200 I could've just walked to the park and cooked it for free. Even though this only has 1 Michelin star, it exemplifies qualities of the 3 Michelin star restaurants I've been to in NYC (Per Se, Eleven Madison, Le Bernardin). Let's start with service and ambiance. From the second you walk into the Ritz Hotel, you'll be completely in awe of the stunning elegance and class. It continues into the restaurant which has tables widely placed apart from each other so I can't hear other people's conversations (big plus!). There is a pianist and a singer performing live which totally adds another level of "wow this is so friggin awesome!". The wait staff greets guests by their last names and they all wear long coattails. They place down plates synchronously for everyone at the table. And they lift the food covers up at same time too. That's not something you see often. They are so attentive throughout the entire 3-hour dinner (got the 7-course) without making you feel uncomfortable. They watch you from afar and refill your glasses or bring plates away with the perfect timing. The food is impeccable!! Everything is so exquisite and makes me wonder how is this only 1 Michelin star?! Everything was cooked to perfection. I didn't like the pheasant since I personally find it a gamey type of poultry. Although I only ate 1 of the 2 pieces of pheasant, watching 3 staff preparing the pheasant and the sauce was very exciting. There was a huge flame as they made the sauce on a skillet, they also used a French press as part of the preparation. It was almost like a mini cooking show lol. The cod and lobster were delectable. Raspberry sorbet was so refreshing for cleansing the palette. The highlight for me was definitely the hazelnut dessert which was like nothing I've ever had before. It was loaded with hazelnut flavor yet it was still well balanced without being overly sweet. The Ritz London afternoon tea has a strong reputation for a reason. They were seamless in their service and they treated my mother like a Queen which is a huge mark in their favor. Everyone there was so friendly and quick with a little joke, not at all like the stuffy pomp and circumstance I had expected. The staff was warm and extremely attentive. We had the normal afternoon tea service and we each ordered a different tea. The staff knew exactly which tea we ordered and when it came time for a refill they didn't need to ask us. It was impressive to say the least. The sandwiches were delicious and the bread they use is soft and they choose different types to compliment the filling. My favorites were the chicken curry and the egg salad. The desserts were the perfect size and so tasty! My favorite was the mango mousse. We forgot to take a picture of the scones with clotted cream and preserves but they were delicious and fluffy inside. Perfect texture for spreading the clotted cream, which tasted so fresh and light. I suggest you come hungry because the staff will keep refilling your plates until you say stop! The Pianist is incredible! Ian Gomes is a legend that used to accompany the likes of Frank Sinatra! He kept whispering to us asking for requests and he was so sweet. He took a break and came down and greeted us. His fingers really make magic on that instrument and it really makes the whole experience that much more special. High marks to the staff! I appreciated how kind, attentive and warm they were to my family. People save their hard earned money to have special experiences like this and this staff really made it memorable. Evening meal: I was on the fence between a 3 and a 4 for many reasons but decided for the quality of food and atmosphere to remain at a 4. We had a later reservation and had full intentions on doing the full tasting menu but was all but forced out of it by the waiter due to the fact that it would take so long to go through...and I mean I get it, you want to not be there forever just for one or two tables that got there late for 6 courses. That being said, we went al a Carte and they lost out on hundreds of pounds. The pre meal treats, salad and beef Wellington were good, with all the final prep table side. We got a nice little anniversary cake after that to take home, definitely wasn't going to push sticking around late to eat it. The moral of the story: had we got to get what we set out for I would have no doubts the 5 was in reach. Talk me out of a 5 to have a 4 (or 3) experience and...well that's what we end up with here. While on our honeymoon this year we had the greatest opportunity to book a last minute reservation for afternoon tea at the Ritz. While this is usually unheard of, seeing as one usually books about four months in advance, I seem to have married an angel of a man with the devil's luck. Walking inside our gaze wandered every inch of the interior, it is magnificent and breathtakingly beautiful, with the elegantly detailed architectural and artistic works of the construction of it all. We sat down with our friends who were also able to join us from the states. The room was alive with people and music, a scene right from the movies, with a pianist playing Sinatra and the classics. The service was as spectacular as the tea! We were treated like royals to say the least! The tea was phenomenal, the Earl Grey being my personal favourite! The unlimited sandwiches and pastries were so delicious we had to order seconds until we were properly stuffed. If you ever have the opportunity to come I couldn't recommend it more! This review is difficult to write and perhaps 4 stars for our particular experience is being fairly generous but understandably generous. For months my friend plotted this dinner as it was for his 40th birthday. He was extremely excited. We dressed very fashionably. But you see we went on one of the hottest days of the year in a building that has no cooling. Have you seen what the waiters at The Ritz wear? I mean, they like their eloquent building dress in very traditional outfits with long sleeve shirts, vests, coats with tails - the whole ensemble looks rather warm. In fact it must have been since several were sweating quite profusely by the end of our meal. My friend suffered greatly wearing his sport coat the entire time and also felt the impact of the high temperature keenly. Us women had it lucky this time as I could wear a bolero sweater over an elegant sleeveless dress and so I didn't have to feel like I was being baked alive, but by the end of the evening as more people came even I felt very, very warm. In turn the service was probably not the same high quality as it typically would have been otherwise. The waiters did their best but were rather lifeless and had no energy. I could not blame them. The food was excellent. I had a lovely fish dish that was cooked to perfection and a strawberry mousse for dessert that was delightful. Yet I think with our increasing warm temperatures I think The Ritz may wish to explore an alternate uniform for their waiters so when the temperatures top 32 degrees Celsius and go over they have enough energy to be as grand as their reputation speaks of. read more

My mother and I had an amazing time here. Service was excellent, and all the sandwiches, pastries, and cake were absolutely delicious. There wasn't one thing that we disliked. In fact, we loved it so much that our server gave us an extra serving of the yummy sandwiches! As for tea selection, there's something for everyone from richer tastes to caffeine free herbal tea. You can also switch them up and try different kinds once you're done with a pot. Added to that a visually stunning setting, you will be so relaxed with your mood lifted. I placed the bar very high for this central London Ritz hotel. My expectations were very high. First, the good. They greet you well, and the food presentation is excellent. They also have a pretty outdoor patio. Now then it so good. The place is extremely stiff and very old fashioned. I was surprised by how often the waiter would interrupt a conversation or a bite to ask me if I want water or ready to order. They are formal. If a woman is not Mickey dress- it's a no entry. The Ritz Resturant is something to savour if you can. The surroundings are lavish from the time you enter the hotel, you have to walk the length of the building to get to the resturant. Now if you've not been before a couple of things. Firstly for men you must wear a shirt, tie and jack (no jeans or trainers allowed) to be able enter the resturant to eat. I have heard rumour that some fashionable leather trainer shoes will also stop you getting into the resturant so you have been warned. As you approach the resturant the clock room is on the right just by the ladies toilet. There is no charge and if you do go to the resturant with your coat still on they will send you back there!!! The service is very good, your table is readied upon your arrival so if you are a little bit early you might have to wait a little bit. The waiters, as the only female staff I saw was the maitre d', were all male and dressed very nicely in their tails. The attention to detail is excellent. The tables, if there is just the two of you are a little big so you might need to drag yourself around to be closer to each other. The food, whilst not the largest of portions, was actually very filling as well as tasteful. We were also given some small chief specials of the day free at the start of our meal. We were also given some petit fours after our desert selection. So for quality of food level of service, did I mentions the pianist and lounge singer who sang through our dinner!, I cannot fault the Ritz Resturant. Finally yes the Ritz is expensive so if you are coming here do not kid yourself it is cheap but on this occasion you do get what you pay for and you get a lot. I came here with my sister and wife on a fixed menu deal, which was £57 per person for 3 courses and a glass of champagne. Pretty good deal, esp. when you consider the palatial surroundings of the Ritz. Everything was as you expect, including great service, very good foods and even musical entertainment (piano and violin accompanying a singer). I have been a few times and before going today I wondered why it didn't have a Michelin star. Then I realised that the reason is because they are JUST a little short in all of the requirements. The service was good but there were a few details that went missing (like forgetting to bring a requested glass of wine during the meal), the food was very good but not that little extra specialness that you would expect, etc. The bill for 3 people came to £389 in the end which was quite a lot really and therefore 4 stars. This place was no doubt the nicest restaurant for high tea. Walking in, two men in fancy suits greeted me at the door. Me and my two kids dressed up; and were glad we did. Everyone was wearing gowns due to the dress-code; men in coats and ties and in general dress smart. Everything was breathtaking; flowers, plants, and all the architectural design was impressive. We were then escorted to our seats, and not soon after, ordered our tea. The service was spectacular. All the men wore fancy suits with tails. Our personal favorites from tea included the Lemon Verbena, Classic Chai and the Passion fruit and Orange (all amazing). They gave us multiple refills on sandwiches and pastries, and when we got a to-go box, they gave us extras. The ladies restroom known there as the powder room was beautiful. Lily pads, flowers and plants made up the wallpaper. All the sinks were pink marble, and there was a literal hot pink sofa and chairs scattered about. I have nothing bad to say about The Ritz. I came here on a weekday morning for The Afternoon Tea with my sister. We felt having tea at The Ritz was a must-do for the London experience. When we arrived the staff kindly pointed us to the tea room. It honestly was smaller than I thought. I guess with costing £58 a person I was expecting more. Anyways, the service was very kind and food not bad. It was nice we got two plates of sandwiches and a new pot of tea half way during our meal. But I do agree with a review posted earlier. You do feel a bit processed because the reservation times not only have a start time but also an ending time. Our time was up around 1:30. As the time neared, we noticed the room became more and more empty. This is a bit uncomfortable but we get it, tea at The Ritz is in high demand. once i knew i was going to london, i made sure to look up the best places for afternoon tea. i chose the ritz as it had great reviews and was known to be very elegant. be sure to make reservations online as they do get booked weeks ahead of time. the restaurant itself was gorgeous! very nice atmosphere. i love how they do the theater seating here (chairs next to each other instead of across from each other - something very common in europe). this place was packed! i enjoyed my glass of champagne, but they never asked if i wanted another glass. the tea selection was okay and they were out of the two i wanted, so i had to settle for one of their recommendations, which ended up not being that good. the food itself was very disappointing. they did have gluten free options for me, but i didn't really enjoy any of it. nothing stood out to me and we didn't finish a lot of our food. it was either very bland or very strong in flavor of mayo. i loved the conrad tea time better and would go back there instead next time. read more

Bloody amazing! This yankee was forced to stop in for afternoon tea by his lovely wife and daughters (Notting Hill fans) and totally enjoyed it. The experience was (hopefully not) once in a lifetime. The tea selection was myriad and delicious. The staff were extremely helpful and tolerant of our tea ignorance. The decor, grandeur and surrounding (not to mention location is great). One of those rare treats and it was for me on this occasion with my date. Starter - Grilled Mackerel with apple cucumber and flowers - I love mackerel so it was always going to be a winner. 9/10 Main - Lamb Loin with a herb crust and caramelised onions and peas. Was OK. Nothing as amazing as I would have expected but cooked nicely. 6/10 Dessert - Chocolate Souffle with hazelnut ice cream. Was big. And tasty! Good to have a skilled dessert like this done properly. 9/10 Overall - Beautiful setting. Great service and very good food.
