I ordered the Veggie Mandu, Jjajang Myun, and Tangsuyuk, and every dish was excellent with generous portion sizes. The Veggie Mandu had an incredibly crispy exterior with a rich, savory umami flavor. I've had Jjajang Myun at several other restaurants, and while this version wasn't my favorite, it was still solid and enjoyable. The Tangsuyuk was the standout--it was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside, and the sauce struck a great balance of sweetness without being overpowering, making it easy to keep reaching for another bite. What an impressive addition to the local restaurant scene. U&I has been open for awhile but I only recently took the plunge. So glad I did. What Prompt, friendly service. It's a comfy place, plenty of of space, plenty of parking. But you will return, again and again, for the quality Korean-centric food. Really impressed with the dumplings apps, crispy and tasty. The Korean cheese corn is solid. The complimentary sides are great--liked the kimchi, the potato salad and the radishes. So good, and fun. The chicken katsu is the best in town, with a perfect salad accompaniment. Really impressed with the zesty kkanpung chicken. You will want to lick the sauce from the bowl but please restrain yourself. Was there for an early lunch so trying the bar needs to come later but there is a separate bar section, if you care for just apps and cocktails. Servings are generous. More enough to share. Visited U&I Restaurant and Bar and had the pleasure of meeting the charming Heidi (one of the family owners) who took exceptional care of me. Even though she was the only serving staff for the evening, she was always smiling and a joy to talk with. This place has a diverse menu, there is no "cooking at your table" available at some Korean places. I started with the Shumai (steamed dumplings) and ordered the La Galbi along with a Kirin Ichiban beer. These dumplings are an amazing surprise...normally expect shrimp dumplings to be overpowering with the taste of shrimp, but not these. The seafood flavors were light, allowing you to taste shrimp and the other ingredients in the dumpling while a little "dip" into the sweet soy sauce made for an awesome appetizer. The La Galbi...marinated and grilled Korean BBQ beef short ribs were so good, you could taste the sweetness of the marinade, and the meat was so tender. There were several slabs of the short rib and along with the sides was a huge meal. You also get a few different sides like Kimchi (light heat), pickled Daikon radishes (slightly sweet and crunchy), Gamja-salad (slightly sweet Korean mashed potatoes salad), and Korean fish cake (kind of bland for me).  While not a "patio" they do have a dining area that when the shutters are opened, gives it a patio feel...overall the place is nicely decorated and comfortable. As a result of our phenomenal experience the first time here, I was so excited to come back again. What a major let down! We ordered some of the same dishes, but the flavor and presentation were completely different. The pork dish tasted so bad, we needed to return it, and the chicken dish was so poor, we didn't bother to eat it. Decided to have lunch here today after reading a few great reviews. If you enjoy Korean food U&I will surely be a hit. My wife and I ordered the spicy pork bulgogi and a bowl of Yukgaejang soup. The spicy pork was brought out sizzling in a pan, just like an order of fajitas. The meat was nice and tender with a light hint of spice and was perfect. The Yukgaejang was piping hot. It had a generous amount of beef, noodles, onions, and the broth was not too spicy, and it was rich in beef flavor. Our lunch was served with about five side dishes. The sides ranging from spicy cucumber, kimchi, fish cakes, beans, sprouts, and pickled radish. The side dishes were all very good but the fish cakes by far were my favorite. Both entrées were accompanied by rice. And extra side dishes were offered more than once. Their prices were comparable to most Korean restaurants. However, their portion of the spicy pork was a little more generous than many restaurants I've been to in the past. The restaurant has two different sections. U&i is the cutest restaurant with great service and food. It's not a kbbq restaurant with the grills. Everything comes to you already cooked. We ordered udon noodles, backbreaker ribs, chicken wings, seafood tofu soup, seafood pancake, squid stir fry, squid dolsot bibimbap, beef dolsot bibimbap. It was so much food we ended up going home with leftovers. Drinks were also so good. Pricing is about on par with what you'd expect at a Korean restaurant. I'm always on the hunt for good Asian food and Korean is one of my favorite food. And with Korean food, you gotta love the banchan (side dishes) that come with it. I got the spicy beef bulgogi with rice and it was approximately $27. Everything including the banchan was just ok. It's not bad, but just ok and for the price point especially in Murfreesboro, I expected it to be really good. My cocktail was good, just a little on the higher price point. Maybe it was an off day, I'll have to try som other day. Really nice people and the staff provided great service. We came on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty. Overall, the place has a nice esthetic and ample seating. We tried several dishes and drinks. The squid stir fry was excellent and had a really nice heat to it. Also had this veggie pizza entrée that was crunchy and fresh. A couple of issues were this one rice dish that came out in stone, bottom of rice burnt and we were instructed to continously stir it to keep the rest from burning. We eventually just took all the food out of the stone piece and left whatever was burnt on the bottom. Tried a couple of cocktails and neither was well balanced. We were also pushed to try this rice punch? It tasted like cooked rice water and was not pleasant on the pallette. Servers were extremely patient and were very nice. Would I go back? Probably not. We came here after church on Sunday and what an enjoyable experience. We were all feeling a little adventurous so took our servers. Suggestions on what to have and boy were we pleasantly surprised. Portion sizes are amazing as everyone but myself took some home to go but we will definitely be back in the future... My husband and I came here for an early Valentine's dinner. The service was possibly the worst we have ever had. It took over 35 minutes to get more than water. No one checked that out appetizers were good (we need extra sauce for the tempura and I had to get up and ask for it TWICE) I ordered the steak and it came out cold and over cooked. Our fried rice was only warm in the middle and the egg on top was stone cold. While the waitress was nice, she never offered to comp anything or bring over a manager to make things right. We went back for lunch today and I actually was disappointed. I normally only get the veg and shrimp tempura,it's an appetizer.the 1st time I went with a friend of mine, I got this same thing. It came with 4 generous sized shrimp, and the veg, actually I wish I had a picture. The next time I went with my family, I had 4 puny shrimp. The waitress explained that the chef was out of town and his sub must have made a mistake. Today, I only got 1 puny shrimp. The tempura batter was tasteless as was the dipping sauce, I had to ask for salt and soy sauce. Also the price on the menu was $13, the price on the chalkboard was $13.99. I have debated whether to write this review. Based on other reviews, I suspect we visited on an evening where something really bad had happened. However, I think it is important to share our experience. I made a reservation for my family of four to celebrate my wife's birthday. I had heard great things about the restaurant, and we are always on the lookout for new places to try. We arrived on time, and were immediately seated. The person that seated us commented, "I have a very nice table for you." Water was provided for the table right away. And then, nothing. We were not given menus. It was several minutes before we even saw any server at any other table. As we looked around the room, we could see there were other patrons who were also being neglected. A couple sitting at one table nearby had menus, but no one took their order. After about 15 minutes, a young man came by the table and asked if we were waiting for our orders. We told him we had not even been given menus yet. He said, "Oh, I'm so sorry! I will get you some menus." He left, but never returned. Finally, my daughter, who is a server at another restaurant in Murfreesboro, went to the front desk and asked for menus. She was provided menus and told the restaurant had several employees "call out" for the evening. We looked over the menus and discussed ordering some appetizers, but no one ever came to take our order. The couple I mentioned earlier finally decided to leave without ordering. As they made their way to the door, an employee apologized to them and told them if they would stay, they would take their order. Meanwhile, at the table behind us, food was delivered. One of the patrons at the table remarked that the dish they ordered was supposed to have chicken, but there was no chicken in the dish. The server apologized and said -- I'm not kidding -- "I can go to the kitchen and get some chicken, and you can add it to the dish." At this point, we decided to leave. As we made our way to the door, the person that seated us noticed and asked if we were leaving. We told her we were, and left. I normally would not leave a negative review based on a single visit, but this experience was possibly the worst I have ever had anywhere. I hope this is an isolated incident that occurred when the restaurant was experiencing an extraordinarily bad night. I would like to give U&I another chance at some point. If I do and the experience is better, I will update this review. read more

I've been to several Korean restaurants throughout Middle Tennessee, but this is hands down one of the best. I made a reservation for my wife and me for our 12th wedding anniversary, and upon our arrival at this quaint little restaurant set back in an old shopping center, we were greeted with congratulations and a reserved table! After looking over the menu, we selected a cucumber salad to split and LA Galbi and Duk Mandu Guk for our entrees. The food was absolutely delicious, with the Mandu Guk among the best we have had anywhere in Middle Tennessee. The cucumber salad was fresh and tasty, and when we thought we couldn't eat anymore, they brought us a cinnamon-infused tiramisu that was absolutely divine! This restaurant is really a diamond in the rough, and I would be happy to take friends and family there for a nice Korean dinner. Went with friends for dinner last night and being new to Korean food we were up for the adventure. The menu was large and had so many options, our waitress was authentic and gave so much insight! She made the night! Lots of laughs. Everyone had old fashioneds and they said they were amazing! I can't remember all the names of what we got. But we got the seafood pancake and gyozas for appetizers, I got a spicy double fried chicken with rice, husband got a squid spicy dish, other couple got a sweet thin sliced ribeye (bulogi ??) and then a noodle bowl. My girlfriend flew in for valentines and we decided to come here for a nice dinner , at first we were impressed with how nice and cozy the restaurant felt . We were quickly frustrated with the service as it took about an hour to even get a drink . We decided to get up and walk out but we were stopped on the way out by the owner and convinced us to sit back down and took our drinks. By the way i ordered a Moscow mule which wasn't served the way it should and my girlfriend received a martini with ice in it which was a first . We only decided to stay because the food actually really looked good and worth the wait . As we waited we saw about 3 tables who left frustrated because they didn't receive a menu after waiting for a while . My girlfriend and i ended up waiting and not give into the frustration of waiting which after the bad service we actually didn't regret staying . The food is actually amazing and very delicious! The dessert was extremely good as well. I know this place has very good potential but they lack organized staff . The owner seemed like she was the host , server and bartender all at once and looked very overwhelmed, she claimed she had employees call out the same day and was short staffed.
