I needed to get a trailer hitch put on I explained it the mechanic that was doing the work that I wanted the wiring place underneath the bumper, he said not a problem. When I went to pick the car up he said he couldn't do the wiring on the bottom of the bumper that it would void the warranty. This was an absolute excuse for not doing the job properly. I ended up having to go home and do the work myself and have the wiring come out on the bottom by the bumper it took me 25 minutes . The mechanic is lazy lazy lazy. Called this store to inquire about propane. Was told it was available until 7pm. Loaded up all my tanks and showed up at the store at 6:30pm. Getting there: Exit Alabama and head north, and you'll run into the U-Haul signs on your right hand side. Parking is pretty awful here, so you'll need to park on the side street. Experience: I had a appointment for a hitch install at 10 AM. I arrived a little before 10 for check-in. There was a few people in line ahead of me and only 2 employees available to help. Once I got to the counter then guy who helped me told me he needed to check with his mechanic to see how many cars were ahead of mine. He then came back to say that there was another car in front of me, and asked if I could come back at 1 PM. Wasn't happy about that because what was the point of making my appointment? So I left and came back exactly at 1 PM. The employee then told me that their mechanic is going to lunch and will be back in 30 then he'll work on my car. He also informed me that it was going to be a 2-hour wait for the install. So I asked if I could just drop it off and they could call me when they were ready, which they informed was fine. Luckily, the mechanic was able to get the hitch installed within the 2-hour timeframe. I was just pretty disappointed in how unorganized the process was. Overall, my hitch looks great and I am happy with how it came out. read more

I went to pick up a 20' van that I had reserved on-line. Destiny was behind the counter and she did not have the correct information on the reservation. Then she told me that I needed to use my phone to upload my picture and upload a picture of my drivers license. This was not possible due to their wi-fi, so I had to use her phone. When I finally got the key (about 25 minutes later), she had given me a 26' van! I did not need that much room and it cost more in gas. I should have checked the reviews prior to going to this location. My wife and her friend went to this location to rent a 10' moving truck. The contract states there's one quarter gas. She drives one mile down the road to our apartment and realizes the gas gauge says its almost empty. Her friend sees this and suggests they go get gas and then call U-Haul to let them know a quarter tank of gas was on in the truck. When they go to fill truck with gas, they see the gas cap is hanging off. Once they start filling the gas they see gas pouring out a hole below the gas tank. They call the U-Haul location which is in walking distance from the gas station and let the representative know what's going on. The representative states its not their problem and there is nothing they can do. Then caught an attitude when my wife tells them they need to source them another truck. This is unacceptable. Here's my issue. No pre-rental inspection was done. U-Haul is responsible for having these trucks serviced and making sure they are in drivable condition before letting someone behind the wheel. We had to call a roadside service to come service the truck to find out there was a hole in the gas line. Roadside patched the who and said U-Haul should have caught it and it was obvious they didn't inspect the truck. We had to keep the truck overnight because our drop off location was closed. When trying to start the truck this morning it took several tries. Then an error popped up on the dash (Service Battery Charging System). When we dropped it off at the drop off location (Varner Rd, Thousand Palms) the representatives were very helpful and understood our frustration. They said the location who rented us the truck clearly didn't do an inspection and shouldn't have rented us that truck. read more

I've been there several times for propane and there always seems to be an excuse for not filling up my tanks from "out of propane" to "handle is broken" I have asked for district managers contact regarding this issue and manager refuses to give me info and won't take mine down either. Ordered a bike rack online (as recommended ), put in the scheduled time to pick it up. When we went in to the store, they showed us the bike rack but it was the display. We asked where our bike rack was and they said they didn't have another rack. We asked if they were expecting a delivery soon and he said "yes". So we waited, until he said he would call us in a half hour. We went away, came back and he said..."I said I would call you if it came in". I contacted customer service, she tracked one down 12 miles away. We would have never received our order unless we were diligent and had a few extra hours to hunt one down. read more

We just moved into town a few months ago and our licenses don't reflect our new address and we wanted to rent a van for our small business, lady at the front forced us to take a truck, we were in a time crunch and couldn't go elsewhere. Truck is about $100 more for us. We reserved the van for pick up prior to coming in. She said that our licenses have to reflect Redlands or Yucaipa, we told her we would show Her a bill or our mortgage statement. She was very rude, curt, and refused said it had to be on our license because vans were being stolen. What? We've rented form uhaul every month in the last year! Unprofessional and uneducated. Not all licenses will reflect a move even if you have changed the address with the dmv. We called uhaul and they said she should have accepted our bill as proof of residency. read more

I have rented from this location many, many times and have always been happy with the service and the equipment. I have been overcharged for fuel 1 time, I drove 13 miles and was charged for 24 gallons of fuel. But it was quickly fixed. I dropped the truck off after hours and they filled the tank inserted of replacing what I used. Today's been only had 2,000 miles on it and was easy too drive. I was in and out very quickly. I had great service and from friendly employees. My one complaint is the fuel policy. It would be easier if you rented it full and returned it full. Guestimating isn't accurate enough. I figured it should get 10 miles to the gallon and I drove 45 miles. So I put in 4.5 gallons for the millage and another gallon for good measure. I will be renting again and this will be the place I rent from. read more

This place is garbage. Long wait times, severely understaffed and very bad costumer service. Had some trouble when I was moving (which is common) where my help had an emergency to deal with so I couldn't unload the heavy furniture we packed in the truck, I called to have my time extended for a least another day. The employee who picked up began to give me the run around on why that wouldn't be possible and this and that..I ended up getting it extended eventually. Like I was already willing to pay the extra fees so that was annoying to deal with. So the next morning my friend and I unloaded the truck and returned it around 1030-11ish in the morning. It took them 30 mins to inspect the truck and the employee goes on to say that there were damages. All the while other customers were coming in and one lady even asked if there was anyone there who could help her since there wasnt anyone else there but the employee inspecting the truck I rented at the time. Once the employee finished, I asked to talk to a manager and explained the situation. I asked that he inspect the truck and after 20 meet mins, he comes and says there were no damages. I never had this issue with other U-Haul places. There are better mover truck places in the area, avoid this place like the plague. read more

Reservations mean absolutely nothing so when you make one be aware your wasting your time. What an annoying experience

I made online reservations for 6x12 enclosed trailer beginning of February 2021 to pick up at the Redlands location on March 20,2021. I called the week of my Pick up to confirm my reservation . They said I was good to go . Then the day before my pickup , they called to say that the 6x12 would be available in BIG BEAR !! I could not make it an hour up a mountain. So I asked for other availability in closer locations . They then were able to find a 5x8 in Redlands for my pickup date . I agreed and reservations were changed On the day of pickup , the gentleman who helped me was kind but not helpful towards my situation - as in he had no control of what was going on . The prior renters of the trailer were supposed to return the 5x8 by 10am that day and had not showed. He decided he should call them to see where they were at ( should've been done by schedulers ) . The current renters of the 5x8 decided they wanted to "extend their rental" for 4 extra days ( WTH) as I'm there at the counter . I was then told that even though they "confirm" Rentals the day before - it is not guaranteed (WTH again ) They said that traffic control for uhaul would give me a call and let me know where I could pick up another trailer if available . I receive a call from them stating that in all of California , one way rentals are UNAVAILABLE . So my 2 questions in all this are 1) why advertise one way rentals when they are unavailable? 2) can we have better management so that way you can call people in advance as a courtesy so they can be prepared ? Sadly this is a huge hinderance to those packing and moving days before they are needing to leave . read more

I went in to look at moving trucks. When I decided which size I needed, I asked the guy who worked there how much it would cost for a one-way rental to another city. He said "I don't know, the rates change all the time." I asked if he could give me a rough idea, and he said he couldn't. I said, "so it could be a hundred dollars, or a thousand dollars, you don't have any idea?". He said, "that's right, I don't have any way of knowing." At that point, I gave up, turned around to walk out, and said "thanks a lot." As I was walking away, he said "well, I can look it up for you!" I said "I just asked you, and you told me you had no way of knowing!" He started to mumble something, but I was pissed off by then, and I just kept going. This was a middle-aged guy with a beard. The tech who installed the hitch drove our car out of the garage and got grease on the interior and stained the stitching. Paid and scheduled on-line for a hitch to be installed on my Subaru because we had a move scheduled in a couple weeks. Day of the appointment got a call that there was a missing part. Said they would call that day or the next with an update. No call so I called. Got the same story. Again, no call. So I called again, and same story. Finally got word (a week after original appointment) that the part was in. So we rescheduled. Got a call the same day of appointment (again) that there was a missing part. Finally got the hitch installed. Said they'd call once installation was done, in about 90 minutes. 2 hours later no call so I just showed up. Had to wait in line about 25 minutes just to puck up my keys with only one customer ahead of me in line. Will drive to a farther, better rated location next time I need U-Haul. UPDATE: when we arrived home, husband looked to see if the wiring was installed. It was. But our spare tire was missing and the people at U-Haul had no idea what happened to it. Again, they promised a follow-up call but never heard from them. So we are out the money to replace the spare. read more

We rented a uhaul for 12:30 to be told that the person returning the truck we needed was late and that we'd have to take the smaller truck if we wanted one. What a joke this place is. They didn't apologize and or seemed to care. They shouldn't offer times that aren't available or let others rent the truck if they don't have it. The worst. Go to the storage place off Barton. Update: About 3 weeks past my appointment date the hitch was finally installed. This was after numerous phone calls and two complaints regarding the lack of communication from the company. After the second complaint we did see increased attempts by their office to communicate the status of our order. When they called to tell me the parts were in, they said they had everything in but the ball and that wouldn't be a problem because they had lots of inventory. On the day of my appointment I was informed that they didn't have the ball and they refunded the part. They also let me switch out the standard clip and pin for a locking one. They promised they would install the locking pin. They didn't. They also didn't tell me that the wiring hookup was going to be a 2 foot long wire inside my car that I'm meant to dangle out of a closed hatch instead of connected to the hitch. I wish I had gone through the dealer instead. This experience was not worth the less expensive cost. I would not recommend this location for a hitch install. 6/14/21: This is the start of a review that will hopefully end well. I made an appointment to have a tow hitch installed on my vehicle. The morning of my appointment I drove 40 minutes (to the nearest U-Haul). Upon check-in I was informed that my hitch had not arrived at the store, they were not able to tell me when it would arrive, and I would have to wait for a call. When asked why I didn't receive a phone call, the gentleman man said I should have been called and he apologized. Both my husband and I took the day off of work for this appointment.
