Call the moving companies directly. Upack is horrible. Very poor customer service. They charged us for expedited shipping but after our trailer was picked up they told us that it wouldn't get delivered until a later date. So of course we asked for them to refund the extra shipping charge- they said no that they couldn't. For those going to move I think it's important to understand that upack is a broker. All they do is contact the moving companies and get you booked. You're better off to just call the moving companies directly. We got booked with old dominion. Funny thing is- we saw one of their trucks on the road months ago and we said oh we should call them. But for whatever stupid reason- we still used upack not knowing that they are just a broker. read more

Booked an entire truck to move cross country from NJ. Showed up way earlier than quoted both times (drop off and pick up). Whether that's a positive thing or a negative thing is up to the person I guess. Since it was dropped off on a friday it didn't move all weekend but once it started moving, every time I called in to ask about status/when I could request dropoff, everyone I spoke to was friendly. I'd give them more stars had the last half of the trip not happened the way it did. When the raised trailer was dropped off, there was no ramp. The driver said there was no ramp and that someone was coming right away with a ramp. The trailer is raised 4 feet. Imagine trying to unpack furniture and boxes from a height of 4 feet without a way to get down. I'm 5'5. My knees could never. The ramp never came. So we said "f it" because we didn't really had a choice and started trying to unpack. Since you share space with commercial businesses if you don't take up the whole trailer, they mustve been shipping candles or meat because there was pile of what seemed to be lard over a foot wide in the truck between our stuff and the exit. We had to throw a box over it to prevent slipping. So whatever, we finish, they came to get the trailer at like 6am the next day and that was that. I sent them email saying hey just so you know there wasnt a ramp and there was fat to try to cover my own butt because I was worried they'd try to charge me for the mess and/or ramp. A couple of days later I got a call from someone apologizing for the mess and they offered me a $200 refund. Then he said "I want to add another $50 for the mess in the trailer, so that's $250". I thought wow, how nice, I sent that email to cover my butt not to complain and look at how they tried to make it right! When the refund came in it was for $200. So I contacted them again asking about the missing $50 and was rudely told I was wrong. Ok. There's your 2 stars. If you screw over the client, then offer to make it right, then take it back, well.. I guess it's a good thing they probably don't count on repeat customers anyway. read more

Overall move from NY to PR went well. communications with both drop off in NJ and pick-up in PR was good. Note: drop off & pick up dates and times for both locations; no weekends or after hours. You can call or check status of move online. remember to pack as per their video guides, like tetris. don't forget to bring your own packIng tools: rope, box cutter, dolly. I'll go well for u and your items. Add an additional week; if your pick up is PR because it went to "US foreign trade zone" uhmm; therefore; required u to provide electronic soc sec card or w9; list of belongs, value and ID In order for items to be released. So don't pack that in pod. Staff in PR bilingual. Overall for the service provided and cost; it was well worth it. would definitely recommend. read more

A perfect gentleman The partition wall locking system was bent but we still managed to get a secure fit. I loaded my stuff Was given a tracking number that was easy to follow And knew where my stuff was at all times. I received a call a week later that my stuff had arrived in denver. Not sure why this Yelp page gives UPack such a low overall review but I just moved across the US with UPack and the experience was perfect. We chose the trailer option where we packed ourselves because our research informed us that you are the best person to pack your things securely and with care. So we wrapped everything ourselves and strapped everything down ourselves and everything went from New York to California with NO damage whatsoever, including to the motorcycle. Yes we packed our motorcycle in there w all our random stuff and furniture, which is more reliable than using motorcycle transport companies. UPack's customer service throughout was A+, answering all questions and generally being pleasant and helpful. The initial pickup driver was also early and knowledgeable about problematic small New York streets. Ivan was pleasant, professional, and effective, even when we took down a city tree accidentally. Everything came earlier than we expected too. Note: the trucks aren't 100% waterproof as some of our boxes were slightly damp from obvious rain. But it wasn't a problem. read more

U-Pack Moving is an incredible service. Very easy, straight forward, super convenient and honestly, my over 1,500 mile move was headache free. With all of that I paid a half the price of moving companies. I would highly recommend this company for your move or even storage. - I ordered one relocube, I sold a lot of my furniture to make my move easier, I stayed with 5 pieces of furniture that I didn't want to part with. Platform bed, bookshelf, armchair, ottoman, corner fireplace, file cabinet. All great quality pieces, the rest I sold. - Delivery of relocube was scheduled for Tuesday between 12-4pm. The gentleman arrived around 2pm with a giant flat bed with my little cube sitting on top. Just a note, if you live in NY, NJ, you will need to get a dumpster permit for two spaces (as the cube or pod falls in that category) and then Emergency No Parking for 2 spots. All of this was actually super easy. As long as you don't procrastinate and do all the paperwork with at least 2 weeks prior. - I had from Tuesday - Friday to load my cube. So convenient. I could still work and take breaks and not be overwhelmed, take my time with smart, tetris like, loading of the cube. - The entire inside has steel constructions with openings for bungee cords, and you will need them to secure your loading. I secured each portion separately and then few portions together until, before I closed the doors, secured the whole thing. Bungees are awesome. - Friday in the morning, when all was done, I gave them a call, I did not need to be present. My cube was picked up. You can actually check the status in your Dashboard with U-Pack website. - They do not deliver or pick up over the weekend and holidays. - Monday I tracked the move of my cube, passing all the states, until it was at my destination U-Pack service center and was prompted to call to schedule final delivery to my new home. - Cube traveled about 5 days. - Wednesday after Labor Day long weekend, my cube was dropped off at my new home, no need for any permits there, yay! I had till Monday to unload. Amazing. But, as unloading is faster and more enjoyable than loading... I made it a mission to be done that day. And I was. - I received a text to let them know I am empty and cube can be picked up, super easy process. I couldn't believe how efficient this whole thing is. Clicked one button to confirm cube is ready for a pick up and was informed, the next day, Thursday, it will be taken and, again, I do not need to be present. Pros - convenient, inexpensive considering someone is moving your entire life in a cube for you, you can pack and load yourself at your own pace. Everyone was super friendly, professional and efficient. Cons - can't think of one thing! I had many fragile things I was transporting and about two boxes that I didn't want anything happen to. Think 50 year, passed down to me, crystal. Absolutely nothing was broken, scratched, damaged. Upon opening the doors, I was little worried what might fall on me. Absolutely nothing :) The way I packed it, the way it was waiting for me. Through all the states and loading onto and unloading from flat beds at each service location. U-Pack made my relocation an absolute delight. As we all know, moving is not fun. U-Pack makes it as easy as it can possible be. THANK YOU! read more

This by far was a great experience. U-Pack moved my things from NJ to NC. Awesome on keeping great time...when they said they would be there, they were right on time. The drivers were professional and the dispatchers especially Peggy were great!!! I was so nervous about my personal items, but they took care of all my items. I used the storage for 2 months, a little pricey, but well worth it. Everything was protected. the containers were air tight, no bugs, mice or dampness! Just used UPACK for a move to NC and the local ABF NJ freight team was awesome in scheduling and getting the unit delivered/picked up. The driver even offered some guidance on how to pack it in order for us to get a lot in but also to ensure things didn't move it. We had 3 business days to pack which was helpful. They gave us a tracking number and we knew when our unit had reached the NC destination, the local Durham ABF Freight team took care of us the rest of the way. All our items arrived intact and with the packing tips nothing moved. I would use this service again. read more

First time using this service! VERY HAPPY! I made a big move from NJ to CA and was doing a lot of research, using U-Pack was the most affordable option. The price was even better if I went to their terminal and filled the cube there which, I chose that option since at the time I lived about 20 minutes away. I was nervous using it as there were some negative reviews but, they were much older reviews so I figured their service has gotten better. It all comes down to how you pack your cube..it will reflect how your stuff will come to your final destination. Speaking of arriving at my final destination, it arrived earlier than expected and it was a breeze getting my stuff! I tracked it the whole time. A few bin lids were broken but nothing else. Other than that, customer service and the whole process was easy. I would definitely recommend! read more

i had used u pack cubes 2 times for relocation , good thing about u pack is more freedom for your packing and moving stuff. most of the booking, getting cube to your location can be done via phone or online. process is super easy. without being there they dropped the cube at origin location of choice. that saved my time. also getting the cube to destination address and picking up back was well co ordinated. I would recommend u pack for hassle free moving. no extra charges than they mentioned in the beginning unlike other movers read more

I shipped a pallet of goods from New York to Ohio using ABF, and the cost was under $300. So I felt confident they would give me a good rate for my next shipment to Oregon, about twice as heavy. They picked up the shipment without asking about a shipping quote or telling me the rate had gone up. I got a call from ABF while the shipment was en route, alerting me that the rate was over $2000, and that they would call me back to see if they could get me a better rate. They never did. I found out two weeks later that ABF was holding the shipment for non-payment of $2700 they claimed I owed because I had not confirmed a rate before shipping. (That is about $3 per pound for a single pallet of goods!) After negotiating with ABF, they lowered their demand to $1636, still $650 more than (1) they quoted when I called in anonymously and gave the same shipment statistics, and (2) two other shipping companies quoted for the same shipment. It is poor business practice for ABF to make calling for a pickup and getting a rate quote two separate processes, neither of which depends on the other. And their claim that they can charge whatever they want because they have the goods hostage and I falsely assumed the rate would be the same is abusive. read more

Service with the Upack drivers and the operations department were excellent. This is my second time using them. My reason for giving them 4 stars has to do with my interaction with the ABF call center. ABF is the contractor that actual does the move and the drivers work for ABF. I was told by Upack that if I used their trailer, I would have a 4 hr window to load and unload. Later I am told by the ABF call center, that this is true for loading and unloading in NJ due to state laws, but this was not so in NC. The problem stemmed from the trailer being placed in front of the neighbor's garage and when it was time to collect the trailer I was told that there is no same day in NC. Fortunately, the Operations Department of Upack was able to assist me with resolving this issue. read more

I recently used u-pack with 2 relo cubes to move from the east coast to the west coast. Scheduling was easy. But since both the source and destination are apartment buildings in busy municipals, I had to arrange my own movers to pack, bring and retrieve my belongings from the u-pack centers. In both centers, I experienced computer glitches which resulted in a long waiting time. Otherwise, the move was quite smooth. Yes, there were minor scratches on 1 or 2 pieces but much better than I had expected. The trick is pick tight and don't leave rooms for stuff inside to shift around. I would use their service again if such need arise in the future. read more

First off!, I wasn't told that i needed a lock and I just so happened to have an extra one in my Van. Whew!, otherwise I had to go to an all night convenience store down the road. (Mind you, i already got lost). I packed the Relocube at night and it was very dark and cold outside (YOU NEED TO PROVIDE LIGHT FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS). I shipped an item to another state and I clearly told "_ _ _" that once it reached its destination that a recipient which his name was given will pick it up. His name wasn't on the receipt as consignee. They called me (ABF) and i had to email them my consent to release the contents. Soon after, I began to get tons of junk mail, not to mention after the Initial setup as well. Ironically, i would use them again. TWO REASONS: (1) The price Is great, I saved at least $1500 having it shipped from one ABF terminal to the other (2) They beat out any freight quote nation wide, freight businesses rob you and they're usually owned by the same people. You call one freight company to get a quote and then you think you're comparing prices and the same dude picks up the phone (EMBARRASSING). In conclusion, If you have no qualms about packing a relocube yourself, you have the muscle, packing materials and time. this Is by far the best and most economical way to go! read more

If could give zero stars, I would. I had a horrible experience with my Seattle to NY move and please let this be a warning to not use or trust ABF. I'm also not sure how the NJ, Brooklyn and other ABF sites have such different reviews. I think I only saw Brooklyn's site and not this one, because clearly, I'm not the only one who has been frustrated by this company. Note: A version of this review was also sent to their customer service, accounting and safety email aliases, but no response yet. ABF completely lied about the features and quality of their "weatherproof" storage containers. After paying ABF nearly $5,000 to see that my belongings were taken care of, my things were delivered in a wet, moldy and DESTROYED state including antique, heirloom family furniture, collector's literature, and thousands of dollars' worth of clothing and shoes to name a few items. Not only were my valuables ruined, but I had the most horrific time coordinating the drop-off time for my trailer. Someone from ABF called to collect my last payment for storage (which was a huge, huge mistake - something I should have held until I received my things). They said my truck departed from the NJ terminal at 12:15 and should be there in about an hour. So, I scheduled movers to come at 1:00. The truck didn't arrive until 3pm! I called the dispatcher's office 10 times and all they could tell me was that the driver left at 12:15. I had NO IDEA where my things were for nearly 3 hours. After my 7th or 8th call, the dispatcher finally told me the truck driver would call me, which he never did. This was by far the poorest, disorganized communication I have ever encountered from a business. Not only that, but I lost another $125 because I had movers sitting and waiting. Another inconsistent promise from ABF that cost me money. The customer service and basic infrastructure of your business is entirely flawed in the fact that you can't tell your paying customers where in transit their things are, or have any way of getting in touch with your drivers. It is unfathomable that ABF says they're a moving/storage company when they show such utter negligence toward a customer's priceless possessions. I have no way to pay to fix the water damage done to my grandmother's dresser. I will be paying hundreds of dollars to see that my molded clothes and shoes are wearable again, though I may just have to throw them away. While you may say they are just "things," these "things" represented the life I built for myself over the past several years and represented connections to family that I can never get back. And you were paid to take care of them and deliver in the same state to which you picked them up! I feel completely burgled for paying this company. DO NOT USE OR TRUST. read more

If you are moving from NYC out-of-state, I would 100% recommend U-Pack. I opted for the 5ft trailer since I lived in a small 2BR apt + all my belongings fit...and I have LOTS of clothes. I was incredibly stressed about moving {without the help of my parents!} and was very overwhelmed about how to transport my belongings down South. The trailer option {the pod isn't an option in NYC} was the best bang for the buck - the driver had no problem finding parking on 5th Ave on a Friday afternoon, was on time {WOOHOO!} and very courteous. You are able to track your trailer as it makes its way to your new destination and the freight company promptly calls to inform you that your trailer is available to deliver. *Major kudos to the Lawrenceville, GA location!* The trailer arrived at my new home first thing on the day it was to be delivered + the driver couldn't have been more kind and helpful. All in all, the entire process was a BREEZE. I cannot say enough positive things about U-Pack. read more

This is the worst moving company. They promise things and deliver nothing including your furniture. They also are very expensive for very poor service. There are always extra charges after you move like stairs and distance from front door. You never speak to the same person and the moving staff they subcontract to treat ABF clients as sub standard. They come with no tools or belts. My husband and I were helping drag a mattress into our son's apt as the moving staff came with equipped with nothing. We had to instruct them how to navigate a stairwell. We are trying to dispute the bill and we cant even get a call back or speak to the same person. Stay clear of this incompetent company. read more
