I would have loved to give Knickerbocker a positive review. Initial calls with Eric were great. He was super responsive and even though there were some challenges (drove to the middle of nowhere New Jersey to drop my car) it was a reasonable price compared to others. Issues were threefold: - Eric basically represented and used a facility that does its own direct auto transport. When questioned (because they were cheaper) he highlighted his business as better due to a number of factors. None of these ended up coming to fruition. - the Rando he got to transport my car was horrible. Lack of communication or updates. Ended up delivering the car two or three days later than promised (meaning I missed being able to inspect the car). And throughout the process was full of lies regarding arrival time and why he wasn't delivering on time. - car was damaged during transport but because I was out of town for 2 months after the fact and wasn't able to confirm and share this with Eric (because it was delivered late) I had no recourse for costs to fix the damage. - finally, In reviewing his end of year books, Eric got confused about a voided transaction (I had been charged twice initially and there was a void in his books). He assumed that it was me doing it due to my dissatisfaction and charged my credit card again without confirming the issue with me. He left messages while I was in a meeting and then charged my card without confirming. When I called, he apologized for his angry action but for someone who highlights professionalism amongst his traits, I feel this was way out of line. I was going to just leave things as is and not write a review and leave things as they were in August but given the action he took today I felt compelled to warn others. read more

Eric is an excellent salesman. He does a great job of convincing you that he used to run his own fleet and now operates with a known pool of contract drivers that he holds personally responsible for the safe care and delivery of your vehicle. From the elaborate website to his phone system, he leads you to believe his organization is larger and more involved than it actually is. In reality, he is just one man-a broker who will work with any transporter desperate enough to agree to the exceptionally low fee he offers them. Eric arranged to ship my four door sedan from New Jersey to Texas for $1750. He wanted me to pay him when the car was delivered and I was satisfied with delivery. When the transporter came to pick up my car, I could not get in communication with Eric. I found out later he had a health emergency, but I did not speak with him for several days. I paid the driver $1100 in cash upon delivery, and then I heard from Eric. He asked the driver to give me the money back so that he could charge me and ensure he got his cut. Obviously the driver (who hadn't been able to reach him either) did not return the money, particularly since I was satisfied with the delivery, and Eric sent me an invoice for $650. Because I had agreed to his price at the outset and I value my integrity, I paid him $500-which is a lot considering all he did was make a couple of phone calls. His whole operation is inherently dishonest and he has a reputation among transporters for paying the lowest on the market. He seems like a nice guy but is actually a con man. My neighbor, who had recommended him, worked with him and had pretty much the same experience. He will cash your check but good luck getting in touch with him after that. Bait and switch. I requested a quote on the website and asked for expedited service for more than two months from when I made the request. Eric Sailor called me and told me the rate would be significantly higher. When I asked why the website said something different he started becoming very irate and stating that I should have known the rate would be higher given the pandemic. I explained that the pandemic had been going on for a year and that the website should be updated. He then began criticizing me for booking through the website. He is also not a carrier as the website states, he is a broker- another falsehood. Worst experience I have had while planning for this move. read more

Had a wonderful experience working with Eric on getting my Honda CR-V shipped across the country from central NJ to San Diego. Eric is responsive, has his customer's best interests at heart, honest, and communicative. My car arrived in perfect condition with no hiccups, and it took only 4 days to get to SD (car got picked up Monday afternoon and arrived Friday night). The only hiccup I had was when the truck driver demanded $150 for having some personal items in my vehicle. When I informed Eric about this $150 charge, he stepped in and told me that the driver should not have done that and rectified the situation immediately by refunding me the $150. This was a seamless experience for me. I recently moved from Jersey City to Miami Beach and I've heard so many nightmare stories about transporting cars - damage, fires, missing items, you name it. Before I talk about KAT, I want to give a little preface about this industry. I did a LOT of research when I needed to ship a car cross country and if you need to do something similar you should take a moment to understand this: Auto transport is the scummiest, sleaziest, dirtiest, most embarrassing excuse for an industry I've ever seen. I researched ~20 companies and each one seemed to be worse than the next. Online reviews and horror stories for these businesses are so awful and so prevalent that some of these slum lords actually have tried to sidestep Yelp or Google reviews and make their own fake review sites where they lavish their own poor service with bogus ratings. I would rather deal with telecoms or credit card companies rolled into one any day of the week over some of these guys. So that's the competition. The bar is set so low you can trip over it. Eric and KAT are not cheap. It cost me $1,600 to go from the tri-state area to the pacific northwest. Probably 1/4th the value of the actual car. But they got it to me without a scratch in less than a week (ahead of schedule) - and were reachable throughout the entire process. I never once felt like the car was in jeopardy. Bottom line is, what good is a lower quote if you don't have confidence you'll see the car again in the shape you left it? At the same time, what good is shelling out if you aren't sure about the guys you're shelling out to? KAT is on the level - and in an industry where being a cheat is standard operating procedure. I wanted to concur with all of the other reviews on Yelp. I also shipped my car from NYC to Seattle (maybe this is a specialty of Knickerbocker?) and had a great experience. I'd been previously working with another shipper who I don't think was a scammer, but was unresponsive and didn't work very quickly, leaving me rather nervous. I found Knickerbocker through a word of mouth listing (not even a recommendation - just on a list of automotive businesses that was circulating among friends.) So I called them on a whim as they were based in NYC. Eric was helpful and explained the industry well, similarly to what Jack O. described. Within a day or two he had found a carrier to bring my small vehicle cross country in January, which isn't necessarily easy. I was given the driver and dispatcher's phone numbers and they were responsive and helpful when I called them 2 or 3 times during the shipping period to check in on the vehicle's location and ETA. I do believe they are selective about the carriers they use. Their website says they a "carrier not a broker," but in this case they seem to have worked more like a broker due to the route and the time of year being uncommon. I had a good result, and experience but just wanted to clarify this point, and also with the caveat that there may be something in the terminology I'm not understanding. But as far as I know, they served as a broker, and weren't using their own vehicle. Whatever the fine details of that may be, the result is that my car arrived in the designated window of delivery (and given the time of year, delays would be expected and not necessarily a carrier's fault) and it cost exactly what I was quoted. No hidden fees or delays... very easy. I was really terrified of the auto shipping industry after reading many horror stories, and am totally happy with Knickerbocker and the company they contracted to ship my vehicle. If I ever need to do this again I will use them, and will recommend them to friends and acquaintances forever and ever. read more

I searched the internet for auto transport to take my car and my wife's car from the Hudson Valley of New York to Sedona, Arizona. I got quotes from a number of companies, from about $1150 to $1975, with most quotes coming in between $1750 and $1850. When I looked at the reviews for the lowest quote, they were not good. Reviews for other companies were not so good either. So I looked on Yelp, and read very good reviews for Knickerbocker Auto Transport. The owner, Eric Sailer, was extremely informative. I learned from him that to get our cars from the Hudson Valley of New York to Sedona at a reasonable price with a guaranteed on-time pickup, and a short delivery time to Arizona, that I should do the following, which is what I did: I drove my car to an auto transport lot in New Jersey, not far from the Lincoln Tunnel. From there, I took a quick bus ride to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. And from there, I took a bus back to the Hudson Valley. My wife did the same thing. It took about six hours total. On the other end, I had to get a ride from a neighbor to meet the truck carrier at the exit ramp just off the highway, which was a half hour from Sedona. So it did require some time and effort on my our part, but we thought it was worth it to save about $750 per car. I didn't have to worry whether the auto carrier would pick up my car when he said he would, and my car was delivered in less than one week's time. When an auto transport company is named after the NBA's ne'er-do-well NY Knickerbockers and its base of operation is in the heart of NYC, ground zero for many a wise-guy and hustler, you have to be TWICE as good as your competition. Well, I'm happy to report that Eric of Knickerbocker Auto Transport exceeded that higher standard by a long shot. He has earned my praise for a job well done, restored my confidence in NYC-based companies and changed my opinion of the lowly Knickerbockers, auh, er, well...not so much. Since this was the first time I needed to have a car transported, I spent more than three weeks doing research and getting quotes. I was terrified! I uncovered an industry fraught with shysters, terrible customer service, clients who told horror stories and brokers and their agents that would harass you for your business and then, once they took your money, disappeared into thin air. However, with Knickerbocker Auto Transport, a pleasant shock begins when you first call Eric---So atypical for a New Yorker (Hey, what do you expect, I'm from Boston (haha), no, actually from the south), Eric exudes honesty and speaks in a very calm and comforting voice and in a cadence more akin to what you would hear in the Deep South. But don't mistake Eric's congeniality and mild manners for weakness---when he snaps his fingers the car haulers roll. He knows from experience that many people who call are probably nervous from getting abused and run-around by others in the transport business. I personally experienced the hustle, lies and harassment. One sales person even cursed me out on the phone when I politely told him I wasn't interested. My vehicle needed to be shipped from Easton, PA (right on the NJ border) about 1,500 miles to Corsicana, TX (~45 miles south of Dallas). Eric's pricing was very fair as he was $300-$600 less than the higher-priced bids and was only about $100-$150 more the very lowest ones. I went with Eric and Knickerbocker Auto Transport because the few extra dollars I paid over the bottom bids allowed me to sleep soundly at night. I didn't want to worry about getting shook down and held hostage for more money after the low-baller picked up my car, wonder when my car would actually get picked up and delivered or be concerned about what kind of damage my car would incur. My faith in Eric paid off. I called him with my approval late Friday afternoon as he was closing for the week. Although his wife and kids were home waiting for him to join them for dinner (sorry Eric), he stayed at the office and on the phone until he reached one of his reliable auto hauler sources. The driver immediately called my contact in Easton, PA and coordinated with him for the car's pick-up. Only 28 hours after I contracted with Eric, my car was safely loaded and on the way to Texas Sunday morning. Three days later, the driver called me to arrange a suitable time to deliver. He also called me when he was an hour away---he arrived within one minute of the time he said he would be here. Highly recommended! Eric's customer service is exceptional. I had my car transported from NY to AZ. When the car was delivered, it had scratch on the rear bumper and paint chipped on the driver side door, which I reported at the time of delivery. A day later I noticed that one of my tires is busted; didn't lose air until after I started driving. Car transport company of course tried to fight back. Eric went above and beyond and fought with the car transport company. He held back payment to the company until they addressed the issue. They had me go to an auto body shop to fix my door and bumper issue. They did a pretty good job I must say. Car transport company did not take responsibility of my tire (Dunlop runflat).
